Just had to comment on these side effects I'm reading about Lipitor and other Statin drugs. I don't take anything and I never will after finding this site. Guess what, I have had high cholesterol since I was in my early 20's. When I say high... it ranged from 240 - 260...remember when 250 was OK? Well folks, it's 30 years later, my cholesterol is just about the same range, and Oh My GOD...I'm still here without any drugs.!!! They lowered the range so they could pass out the pills!!! Greed, greed, greed. Do you wonder why our Healthcare system is out of control? Well, when you keep feeding people medications that are presenting the side effects they do, making them sicker, they just keep testing and testing and testing for other things. Let's do blood work, MRI's, CAT Scans, Spect Scans, Pet Scans...Scan away...and guess what...all comes back OK...hmmmm why not look at the drugs you're prescribing. We need to see "all the side effects" listed. Not just some. They're misdiagnosing, Alzheimers, Fibromyalgia, MS, Lupus, Dementia, Arthritis, and on and on when it's been the drugs causing the diseases!
Ween off everything and anything you can...take your chances...when God wants you, he's going to come and get you no matter what you're doing...right or wrong!

Started taking Lisinopril approx. 6 years. ago. Shortly afterwards I started a spiral downwards for no apparent reason. Did not connect this med. Shortly after starting it I was put on Synthroid for low thyroid. Started having loss of balance, dizziness, vision problems, muscle and nerve pain. B/P went up instead of going down. Have been to every type of Dr. (Neurologist, Dermatologist, Endocrinologist, Internist) and every nerve & muscle test and blood work came back negative. I have extreme cold in my hands and feet, increased back pain. headaches. This past week I have broken out in a rash on my torso and down both legs. The doctors answers are that I'm suffering from depression. The irony is that when the symptoms first started I questioned if I could be having a reaction to the medication and they flat out said no. After reading some of the comments as of today I am discontinuing the Lisinopril and will searce for something natural. I'm fed up with doctors and really short on cash from all the money spent trying to find an answer.

My 14 year old daughter received her fist Gardasil shot in Sept/Oct 08. Soon after she started losing her hair and thinning. Now it is coming out in handfuls. She is so upset and I believe that she is becoming depressed due to the emotional heartache. She has not received any more shots. Anyone who reads this don't give this to your daughter.!

I started taking Singulair 6 months ago. My allergies even with medication and immunotherapy were becoming unmanageable. My larynx would swell up and close my throat and make breathing difficult. I had trouble breathing at night laying down to sleep, my voice was hoarse most of the time. Within 2 days after starting Singulair, those symptoms totally disappeared. I thought it was the answer I had been looking for. I've had a lot real problems in the past few months with crying and sadness, but with my Mom in hospice with Alzheimer for 14 years, and my father breaking both hips last year, my mother-in-law with vascular dementia, and an insulin defendant diabetic, and losing my job due to outsourcing, and other stressors in my life, but II thought my sadness was all of this stress. Counseling wasn't really helping and I've got a new counselor now. In the past couple of months, my mental state has become more and more fragile; I have times that I wish I could go to sleep and wake up in a couple of months or just go somewhere and be left alone. I am angered easily; I have always been happy and easy-going. I cry daily and don't get out much, and I'm afraid of the unknown now. I feel like my self-esteem is in the toilet.

Tonight I have stopped the Singulair. I'm afraid because I know the allergy problems will return, but I'm hoping that I'll be able to manage them somehow. I have 'a lot on my plate' right now, but at least if I stop the Singulair and I feel better mentally I'll know it was the drug and not my life.

They had me on a 600mg dose to begin with, which I cut way down to 200mg daily.I have high blood pressure and tachycardia and it does lower all that quite well. However, I am scared to go to bed at night, because I wake up shaking like I'm having seizures, I feel like my whole body is twitchy. Leg cramps, ringing in my ears, vomiting, nausea, dizziness, hot sweats, cold sweats, dark spots on the wall, (my blood pressure was normal), thirst, panic and anxiety, not caring about life or the house or bills, and horrible dreams, no appetite, then increased appetite, insomnia, and this all started about 3 days into the meds. Let your body adjust to it, yeah, it's getting worse so we'll see.

Is anyone experiencing confusion, trouble thinking, trouble concentrating, decreased cognitive function, mental sluggishness, trouble solving problems or situations which require logical thinking and sequencing, and memory loss? Would love to hear from anyone experiencing any these symptoms and if so, how long were you on the drug.
Thanks!

I started flomax five days ago and have noticed two things: one, I get dizzy when I stand, and two, my ejaculate is colored..... brownish. My psa is 1.6.

Alas, it has made no difference to my wanting to pee all the time, so back to square one. I've tired proscar and detrol, but neither have helped. At least they had no side-effects

I've been on topamax at 400mg 2x a day for about 8 years now. It is a great drug but it has HORRIBLE side effects! It ( along with lamictal) gives me WONDERFUL seizure control. And it is safe for pregnancy. BUT it has destroyed my memory. short term and long term I cant remember much of anything! The sexual side effects is just awful. It makes reaching an orgasm almost impossible! I am very scared that I may have full blown alzheimers by the time I am 30!

Has anyone gained they're memory back after stopping topamax?

I was put on Levoxyl for 20 years. Hair kept falling out, muscles aches, acid reflux, plantar fasciitis, carpel tunel, tired, cranky, brain fog. I could barely walk and had developed a stutter. I was to be tested for Alzheimers at 45. I was told there was no other drug for hypothyroidism and it wasn't the Levoxyl doing these things to me.

Well I found another drug thanks to the internet and Yahoo Natural Thyroid Group. It was Armour. I have been on Armour for about 2 years now. All those problems I had on Levoxyl are gone. Completely GONE! Wasn't the Levoxyl huh?

For my bipolar mood disorder it has worked great. My life has never been this stable on any other psyche med. However, the loss of concentration and short-term memory loss, and difficulty with word-finding ability has been the impairment.

Oh thank you people. I just signed in here today, at the advice of my husband- to check out Toprol- and see if any one else has had similar side effect. OMG, Everyone is saying the same thing- dizziness- dullness- no motivation, no energy- heart palpitations- some one mentioned their older mother has had vivid dreams, and you thought it might be Alzheimers- NO! I have had vivid extremely busy, cunfusing dreams, like I'm running from place to place-talking to all sorts of people- and it makes me wonder if that's why I also feel so exhausted and achy from head to toe every day- and never have left my house once all summer- which is so unlike me. I ,too thought I was in a depression- but after reading everyone else's replies- I see we are all in the same boat. I am 72- worked in the nursing profession, until I ruptured two discs in my spine and got nerve damage in my right leg- so I do know quite a bit about medical care. This med was given to me by a past Doctor which I did not trust- and finally changed Doctors- I just decided today- I am D.C.ing this med. Which is what the Dr. says when he wants it discontinued!! I will see my new Cardiologist-internist, and will advise him I can not take this any longer. Has anyone else had excessive itchiness, and flaming redness of the skin after taking this at night? I have severel times- and was taking a shower at 3 in the morning, I was itching and scratching and red all over- and clawing myself bloody- so I showered and used this OLAY CREME RIBBONS, WHICH LEAVES A SORT OF CREAMY LOTION ON THE SKING- IT HELPED SOME WHAT! Didn't mean to capitalize- I have no stock in Olay- Hah! I hope to fe4el much better in the morning by not taking my Toprol tonight- and maybe I won't have such radically busy, busy dreams. Thanks for listening. Ms Nannerbananner

I have been on NuvaRing for 2 years 8 months. I have been seeing a doctor for the past 20 months for a series of unresolved symptoms:

1) extreme exhaustion
2) unexplained weight gain/inability to lose weight
3) Gall Bladder attack
4) High Inflammation based on CRP (C-Reactive Protein), predictor for heart disease, alzheimers, stroke, cancer, etc.
5) Loss of mental focus - Constant brain fog.

Other symptoms digestion problems, bloating, zero sex drive.......

It just occurred to me this weekend that it might be the NuvaRing. I had a gall bladder attack in June of 2005, with no symptoms and not a typical profile for someone to have an attack. In May 2006 my husband and I took a trip to Hawaii and I skipped my period by inserting a 2nd ring when I removed the first. I did not feel good the entire trip (bloating, extreme headaches, sensitivity to sun, stomach upset), and even had a skin reaction to the tag on my swimsuit (sign of high inflammation). I have been through cancer tests, bone marrow test's, tested for autoimmune disease (all thankfully came back negative) and there is no explanation for the high inflammation I am experiencing. My inflammation/CRP levels are 2x what Lupus and Rhumatoid Arthritis patients experience.

I have been on an anti-inflammatory diet for 6 weeks, and the results were actually worse at the second test. So in trying to deduct what could be causing the inflammation and other symptoms it finally occurred to me that - BINGO maybe it is the NuvaRing! I read the potential side effects and was shocked - gall bladder disease, heart disease is one of them. I have been off for 2 weeks, and I already feel like a new person. I have not been tested again for inflammation (will happen in 2 weeks), but I am almost positive that is the cause.

Don't let this be you, do not let symptoms go as long as I did before realizing what you are doing to your body. Maybe the NR works for some people, but judging by the number of responses on this board, not many!

My husband, former commercial airline pilot, began taking Lipitor January 27, 1998. He was misdiagnosed with alzheimers and treated for it till Smart Money magazine article: Nov 2003. He quit the statin, but his brain was too damaged. Recently he received an Allen Cognitive Level test at a nearby Memory Disorder Clinic. Six is normal, his score is 2.2 Withing 5 1/2 months of when he began Lipitor, he had bladder, prostate, sinus, muscle pain in arm, pectoris pain and a 8 months when he first mentions that he has had problems with his memory. His Dr. wrote, "alzheimers". There are no miracles on the horizon. The doctors and pharmacists are not told. The FDA is totally broken. There is no independenet agency tracking drug side effects. This is all about greed. Everyone thinks the situation is fine. The pharmacutical companies, insurance companies, doctors, pharmacists, and nursing homes are quite pleased. Once someone is diagnosed or mis-diagnosed, you are on your own. Care-givers are told to "get on with their lives". (liquidate your assest and put your loved one in a nursing home-you are not capable of caring for them) All forms of media are also receiving huge profits from drug commercials.
Tell your doctor to take Lipitor and let you know how it works!
Both political parties get huge amounts of money from the drug companies and they won't touch this issue. A doctor told me that 80% of drugs that are given are to mask the side effect of a previous drug. Studies show that Lipitor shuts down the production of Co Q10 which results in cell death.

Wow! This is amazing. My dad JUST started taking Singulair last week and his memory has deteriorated so much in one week that I thought he might be getting Alzheimers or Dementia! Now-I think it could be a side effect of this medicine. What a blessing it is to have FOUND this site and discover others are having the same kinds of problems! I have already called him and told him to STOP taking this pill!
Thank you!!

I was prescribed Fluoxetine for my PMS. I started at 20 mgs and I had horrible stomache aches and couldn't sleep. Then, they put me on 10 mgs, and the stomache ache stopped but I have absolutely no sex drive and I'm tired all the time. I have gained steadily in spite of doing aerobics every day and eating small meals. I can't seem to lose weight. I was 118 lbs when I started taking Fluoxetine, now I'm 131 lbs! I'm quitting today to see if it makes a difference. When I get my period, I'm still nervous and can't sleep, so I don't think it's doing it's job in helping me. I also have a lot of trouble concentraiting and am forgetting important appointments for my daughter. I feel like I have alzheimers and I'm only 40!

My father was first prescribed ambien in 1993 after the death of his wife to help with sleep. I have seen him go through the various stages of side effects from sleep walking to talking to people that weren't there to falling and hallicinating. This was all under the care and supervision of his doctor. It is now 2005 and I am writing this as he sits in a de-tox facility after building up a tolerance to this addictive drug of up to 20/10mg. pills per day. He couldn't let go of this drug and even the doctors are shocked at the amount his body has been able to sustain. I would beg anyone reading this that has been on this prescription to talk to their doctor if they feel that they are not able to sleep without it. My father was very close to dying and it is still possible while he is going through detox that he will die. No matter how many Ambien he takes he can't feel good enough and I have discovered he was mixing with pain killers. His doctor did NOT prescibe him enough to take 20 a day, but it is readily sold ILLEGALLY over the internet. These people are heartless, selling ILLEGAL PRESCRIPTIONS over the internet from manufacturers outside of the United States. I can't tell you how awful it has been as my father has gotton more and more addicted to this medication. I had started to question whether or not he had Alzheimers because of his actions under this drug. He gets up every night and goes to the kitchen to eat at night. He has let everything else go. He has not slept one night in 13 years without it. For anyone reading this who thinks this could not happen to them, please know that my fiance who took this drug to help him sleep had hallicinations with me in the room. I can tell you after watching him just in the initial stages of detox over the last three days that this is a PAINFUL and AWFUL process. It is an addiction just like any other street drug. I am writing this after three days/nights with no sleep while waiting to get him into a treatment facility and spending all day/all night vigils while he begged for this pill. If you start to suspect you have a problem with this prescription please get help before it is too late.

I have taken Avelox, Cipro and Levaquin within the past two years - all with side effects:
CIPRO: (Rx for diverticulitis) Dry raspy cough, irritated throat, sneezing - all started shortly after each daily dose and eased off until next dose. Poor sleep, wakeful and unable to go to sleep. I did not continue the medication as prescribed and the symptoms were gone within 24 hours.
AVELOX: Dementia - something like Alzheimers - I could not do a simple crossword puzzle, knowing that I knew the answers at one time. I could not think or function and, again, stopped the medication early. Symptoms went away.
LEVAQUIN: Confusion, sleeplessness, anxiety, frequest urination.

My husband is currently taking Avelox and is having some strange symptoms: Hallucinations, strange dreams, confusion, raspy cough and laryngitis. He was put on Avelox two days before he came down with Influenza and the cough and laryngitis may be a result of the flu - but I am recovering from the flu and he is not, and should be.

I will no longer take any quinolone and may need to change doctors if he insists prescribing them. He wants my husband to continue taking his last two doses of Avelox. I just hope he survives this!

My father is 81 years old and was diagnosed with colon cancer, he is also a diabetic and has alzheimers. My father was in hospital when we found out that he had cancer and that they could not operate because of his heart condition. Now he is in a nursing home where he has 24 hour a day care. The doctor has told the family last friday that he had 3-4 days left..he is still going but since they have given him morphine he does not eat or drink, he can't get out of bed and his mouth is all dry, his tongue was blackish in colour and he looks really bad, he is skin and bones now and it breaks my heart to see him like this. I was wondering if the things I am noticing about my dad is due to the morphine or what??
