My husband has pulmonary fibrosis and has been on prednisone since June 2008. It worked wonders for him and he was able to function normally; he started at 60 mg. He has slowly been coming down off the prednisone and is currently taking 1 mg. Since he got down below 20mg he has been losing energy and ambition and interest; he is terribly weak and any little exertion has him gasping for air; his legs are so weak he can hardly walk and only for a short time. He does not sleep during the day but does not sleep much at night either. We know these effects are the result of coming off the prednisone but I'm wondering how long the effects will last.

where do i start.... I'm 16 and my doctor is having me take this because i get ovarian cysts ALL the time. i started about 3 months ago and i hate it. before i started taking it i was a very very bubbly person who did really well in school. now that i am taking it i have changed. my math grade went from a 90 to a 50 and i got very frustrated when i was trying to make up my work and i would end up either walking out of study hall i had with her or i would cry. i had no ambition to go to school and while was there all i wanted to do was sleep. i started fighting with my boy friend a lot more and everything seemed to either make me mad or upset quite easily. it is very annoying. and with my family history of cancer i have to be careful of what i take. i would almost rather deal with the pain i got from my cysts then to deal with this.

I used Tri-Sprintec for three years for my skin. In those three years I didn't *notice* a change in my body or personality other than the fact that my boobs went up 2 sizes and I gained some weight. However, after I QUIT using this medication, I realized that my mind had not been my own for the three years I took it.
I quit in November 2008, and instantly lost 15 pounds and 2 boob sizes. I also came to the realization that in the three years I was on this medication, I was an emotional wall with no ambition and no sex drive (which sucks when you are (19-21 years old).
Now that I have been off it for almost 6 months, I haven't had a period in nearly 4 (going to the doctor next week) and I cannot focus at all. I literally cannot sit down and focus on a school assignment.
I used to write every day before I started Tri-Sprintec, and while I was on it I sort of lost that ability to express anything through words, so I started doing film in school to show what I couldn't tell. Now that I am no longer on the medicine I realize that it is the medicine that made me unable to write. It really screwed with my mind. I can write again! But I am so upset that I missed out on three years of it, because those were very crucial years.
I feel like I was on pause for three years. Does that make sense? Anyone have anything similar?

Have stopped taking Zocor today after finally accepting that my life has changed since taking this medication....am too weak to open a soda bottle, keep twisting words, memory is shot, Hips, knees and ankles scream whenever I have been sitting for more than 15 minutes....light headed, dizzy and constant headache...want to just curl up in a ball and cover my head for loss of ambition. I am exhausted all of the time.

I am 41 and have been taking Yaz for about 6 months. My skin is much clearer and that is nice, but on the other hand I have had a continuous headache for two weeks now. Just in case, I took meds for a sinus infection but the headache has stayed... so now I am being treated for migraines. The problem is: the meds for migraines don't work. I am wondering now if it is the Yaz. When I first started taking it I got headaches at the beginning of each new packet, but now it's non-stop. After reading some of these posts, I am worried that coming off it will also have side effects, but it can't be anything (I hope) like the pain and fatigue associated with a long, drawn out headache. I am deeply scared that this headache will turn into a stroke or a tumor or something.

I was so happy to find this website!.. I am a 49 year old female taking Linsinopril for approximately 10 months now for high blood pressure (which has come down to a normal rate since being on the medication). I have been experiencing a severe in my lower back towards my left side for about 2 months now and have been tested for many things (ultrasounds, MRI's, blood work, etc.) and nothing has been found to be causing this pain so far. The pain is constantly there, but more severe when I have a bowel movement and for about 1-2 hours afterwards. I also have the following symptoms: pain in joints on left side of my body - ankle, hip, shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand (including joint swelling mostly on left side). Bad pain and weakness in upper left arm when I try to rotate my arm backwards - can no longer pick up heavy objects with left hand. Also have pain in joints on right side, but not as severe. I have experienced headaches and my abdomen feels swollen all the time. It feels as though someone pumps air into my stomach every morning. It also feels as if something is throbbing or on fire across my abdominal area. This condition has disrupted my life - I have no energy and feel weak and tired all the time. I get out of breath easily just from walking or any amount of exertion. I no longer have the ambition to do the things I used to do. I've been thinking that there has to be something seriously wrong that the medical doctors are missing - and have feared some type of cancer. Now that I have found similar symptoms on this website, I am going to try to stop the Lisinopril and see if my symptoms subside.

What side effects? I have taken Lamictal for 6 weeks. I am on a steady dose of 100mgs. I started out with severe depression (unipolar), and have also been diagnosed as bi-polar and borderline personality disorder. So who knows what I have other than to say that I have felt like a train wreck for 3 yrs. All the other meds I have taken did not help my constant cycles of severe depression. I felt like I was in a fish bowl and the world was going on around me, I could see it but was not a part of it. It was hell on earth. Other meds would help somewhat on certain symptoms, but nothing ever brought my life back to a level where I could say I felt joy and was truly happy until I started Lamictal. 2 weeks into the start of Lamictal (50 mgs), I woke up to a miracle. I realized I felt joy, I was laughing without trying to. I felt refreshed and prepared to go out in the world and face the day with a positive outlook on everything. My side effects so far have been nil. Not one thing...no pain, no headaches, no weight gain, no memory loss, no dizziness, no hairloss. Am I the only one? I know these meds effect people differently but wow, I am in heaven. I hope all of you eventually find something that works for you because I really felt ( before Lamictal) that I would never feel good again! Hallelujah! I do! bless you all!

I am a 48 year old male. Was placed on Zocor last year. Since the day I was placed on it, I have felt weak, no ambition, no drive, feel like a zombie. I eventually had pain in my legs so severe that I had to take Hydrocodone so I could sleep. The skin on my thumbs and two first fingers peels off. I haven't had a good nights sleep since the second day I was on this crap. I haven't been taking it since June and still have a lot of problems. I still am very weak, no energy, tired all the time, skin is still peeling off my fingers, can't think, can't keep a straight thought. I have pretty severe pain in my hips that started when I was on Zocor. Also, my knees are very weak, and they pop every time I get up. At the time I stopped taking it, I was unable to make it up a flight of stairs.
My doctor constantly denied any link between any of this and the Zocor, but amazingly, after I stopped taking it, some of the symptoms reduced. I still suffer from many.
I was a small business owner with 7 employees and have since lost everything. I have been unable to find a job now for almost a year. The doctors are all "programmed" to think and tell you that these are good for you.

Has anyone had severe headaches, loss of TASTE for food? My husband is taking 20mgs of Zocor and he has a terrible pain in his back in the center of his shoulders, knees crackle when getting up from a sitting position or bending to pick up something. His vision is getting very blurry, to a point he finds it hard to read, bouts of depression, cannot sleep, but, always tired, no ambition, thumbs lock-up like a Charlie horse, cannot lift anything heavy anymore. He started taking Zocor 40 days ago, and never been on any other cholesterol medication before this. 40 days ago he did not have any of these symptoms! I have a question for the people that have stopped taking Zocor and all other statins, what are you taking to keep your cholesterol and triglycerides down? Has anyone tried flaxseed; fish oil; cholesterol off and/or omega 3? I too, have many of these side effects, especially my left knee (my doctor says I will need a hip operation!!!!) sometimes I need a cane to walk, my eyes are also very blurry at times. We need help or suggestions, cannot get from doctors, they believe medication can do no harm. Would like to hear from those who stopped Zocor and all statins, thanks for reading, Helene

I have many of the same reactions to this med that I have read on this site. My sister is on this med and we began comparing symptoms, which were many of those listed here..total energy drain, dizzy, unable to concentrate or even focus, depressed. I feel like I can't get a full breath in my lungs and I find myself sighing a lot, which does get more air into my lungs. It is hard to describe but it is a very bad feeling that I am slightly dizzy, slightly nauseous all the time. No ambition, staying in bed more and more because I just feel bad most of the time.
I stayed on this med for four months trying to see if I would eventually get over these feelings. Didn't happen. This week my Dr. try changing me to Cozaar for my HBP so I am in the process of weaning myself off Metroprolol. I was only taking 25 mg 2Xday so I cut them in half and take twice a day. I can already tell a difference in my energy and general feeling of well being. Dr said after one week of half dose, to stop completely and take only the Cozaar. I hope this works. I appreciate all the input on this topic here.

I have been on Lamictal for 6 weeks, working up to 100 mg once a day for seizure control in addition to Topamax (100 mg) and Keppra (3,000 mg). As the dosage has increased, the side effects have become unbearably worse. I am so sick to my stomach, I can't eat. My headaches are horrible, and all I want to do is sleep. The only thing that keeps me from sleeping is my pounding pulse rate and shallow breathing... I'm still waiting on a phone call from the neurologist to see what I'm supposed to do about this.
I noticed several other mentions of a lack of ambition. I'm now noticing my own lack of will power. Good luck to all of you.

Started Lamictal after a suicide attempt. Thinking this drug would help, I took the medication with anticipation. I have been taking it for 2 1/2 years, and starting having night terrors, weight gain, exhaustion, don't have the drive I used to, and now it is affecting my sexual behavior (and not in a good way). I used to come home from work, and want to work in my yard and be proud of what I accomplished. However, within the past 3 or so months, I've almost given up. Beings I'm best known for my ambition, and attention to details, (probably on the anal side) I have been told that I have changed. I have had memory laps, trouble focusing at work, feeling as though I am inferior to others, and trouble with the driving aspect also. Sometimes I'll forget where I'm going, and take the exact opposite turns than I should. Although my income just meets my billings, and my credit score is excellent, I am having trouble keeping track of when they should be paid, even though I put them on my calendar. I do find my credit score is falling, and fast. I am seeing my MD, and the psycho-therapist on a regular basis. I am weaning off this medication, but have only been doing this for 1 week. I can't wait til the end of all this depression and still don't understand why they mark me as a bio-polar person. Also, I have never experienced seizures. I wish all of us luck and patience in our endeavors. Let's all think of each other, and thanks for letting me know that I am not alone.

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism in April of this year (2007) kind of by accident through a routine checkup. I had gained a bit of weight over the past two years, but that was really my only symptom. I was begun on 75 mcg of a generic brand of Synthroid, levothyroxine. Since I began this medication, I have rapidly gained another 15 pounds despite a 1,000 calorie per day diet. I retain fluid horribly. My ankles, wrists, hands and face swell daily. My muscles ache, especially my legs, upon walking across a room. I'm fatigued, short of breath. My LDL cholesterol level has skyrocketed in only three months and now I'm being told I need to be on a statin drug. I cry frequently and feel uncharacteristically anxious and irritable, but this could be due to the frustration I am experiencing with the loss of my sense of well-being. In essence, I felt much better before being placed on the medication. I may, in fact, discontinue the medication totally and see if over time I begin to feel better. Like so many other stories I'm hearing, my doctor seems totally unconcerned.

I was prescribed Prednisone for 10 days initially and then degreasing dosage for a long time. 9mg daily for 14 days, then 8mg for 14 days, then 7mg for 14 days and so on until I was off the stuff. This seems to be a long time for me. I have night sweats, insomnia, fatigue, lack of concentration, and lack of ambition. I am a 70 year old male prostate cancer survivor. I am also taking Toprol 50mg daily.
Will all of the side effects go away eventually?
Very tired old man.

I have been taking Welbutrin for nearly 3 weeks and feel like I am seriously losing my mind. I feel like a walking zombie, numb to everything and my mind feels foggy. I can't remember things and am having a hard time diffrentiating dreams from reality. No appetite, extreme feelings of up and down, inability to concentrate, no sex drive, no ambition, crying all the time uncontrolably. I don't think I felt remotely close to this before I started taking this medication. Does this get better at 4 weeks or stays the same? I can't even remember what I was like before this. Anyone else having same symptoms?

My doctor put me on Atenolol (50MG) about six months ago. After one week I was so dizzy, restless and my feet were numb and swollen. I was always tired but couldn't sleep. My blood pressure fell to 90/46 and I though I was going to pass out. I cut the pill in half and take it with my breakfast. I do notice the difference. My blood pressure is good, I don't have the dizzy spells and I got my ambition back. I think these doctors start a person off on to high of a dose at the beginning of a new pill. There's times I skip it for a day. My life seems much better now.

Reading all of your your sx's was both heart-breaking and eye-opening. I have been on Topamax for 4 months--just moved up to 100 mgs in the hopes that the migraines would be defeated once and for all. So far, besides a week-long doozy that I think was actually a horrible manifestation of the stomach flu, the headaches have reduced themselves to about two times a month rather than averaging about every day. An improvement. Never-the-less, I still wrestle with the choice of the depression that has followed me like a black cloud since I began this therapy, and also the rage that can blow up out of nowhere, or the headaches. Quite a choice. I often wonder how my children will remember me. I'm not normally a moody, angry person, but since starting Topamax, you wouldn't know it! Not surprisingly, my doctor simply offers me an array of more prescriptions to add to the cocktail. I've had about enough. I too get the tingles in my hands and feet--especially if I've been sitting with my feet elevated--like in an easy chair. I'm getting good at ignoring it, though. It's actually quite painful! My face quit tingling after the first month. Words can still elude me at embarassing moments. So frustrating! I lack all ambition, and I must literally force myself to do anything--housework, exercise, take care of my children! Guilt, guilt, guilt! I'm so glad that so many of you mentioned that! I've been beating myself up about that particularly, wondering what in the heck was wrong with me! I could sleep all the time! I've lost about 8 pounds, and my appetite is satisfied very easily. Carbonated beverages don't taste horrible, exactly, they just don't taste good. So I've more or less quit drinking them. No loss. We spend less that way! As I read all the entries, one thing is very clear to me. We have got to be less passive in the hands of our doctors. No one knows too much about this drug. There are alternative forms of medicine that are being more actively explored by reputable practitioners. I am starting to research it more myself. I don't want to live out the rest of my days so...sad. And angry! Good luck to all of you.

I am taking 100 mg Toprol for BP. I have experienced excessive itching, joint pain, lack of ambition, hard time driving because of dizziness and focusing of my eyes. I am 69 years old and have no sex drive and no interest in the things I should care about. I am going to my doctor to see if my old BP drug Diazide will be better for me. Found to know what to say but can not get the words out! No ambition to complete tasks the past week. Very passive. I really do not care about the weight loss factor, I just want to feel better! I am driving my husband mad!

It's not 3:15 am, but I was still up at 3am this morning :-( I'm experiencing almost all of these symptoms as well. I've been unable to sleep since I started taking this a few days ago and I feel like my heart rate is thru the roof! Poor sleep patterns, hot flashes, increased heart rate, lack of ambition, axious and moodyness. I've had them all. I thought I was going crazy! Last night, I even thought I might be having an anxiety attack, which started me thinking that it might be this medication. Before I started taking this, I was so completely calm and relaxed, except for the cold. I'm so glad I found this website. Thanks.

Last month I stopped using Aviane because I saw a severe weight change. I had no ambition to do anything, and felt quite sluggish. The month I stopped I saw such a change in my attitude and not to mention my level of energy. I felt normal again! I had self motivation to go to the gym everyday and felt great. I even got better sleep. But after I stopped using the pill I noticed something hadn't come. Its been two months since my last period, and I'm not sure if its just a body adjustment or if somethings actually wrong.
