I'm surprised at all the comments about Mirena...about how painful the insertion was and how horrible the side effects are. I can honestly say that I've had NONE of those issues.

I'm 28, and I've had Mirena for 2 years now. I have NO children, but the procedure was NOT painful. It was slightly uncomfortable for a few moments while she inserted it, but I did not receive any anesthetic. I had slight cramping for a few days, which is normal. Over the course of several months after having the Mirena put in, my periods began to subside and after about 4 or 5 months, I had no period at all.

I have noticed absolutely no difference in my sex drive, weight, mood, hair growth, etc. I recommend Mirena to anyone who is interested in it.

Of course, every woman is different! And, our bodies all react differently. So, if you're interested in Mirena, please don't make a judgment call based solely on this message board or any other message board, for that matter. Some of us have had horrible experiences. Some of us have had great experiences. But, your decision should come from the ONLY two people who know YOUR body best: you and your doctor. Good luck!

I am thirteen and a female. I had throat inflammation, swelling of my sinuses, and an ear infection. The doctor gave me a cortozone shot and recommended a z-pack. About 2 hours after i took the first dose i got severe stomach cramps, nausea, dizziness and loss of hearing. I keep having to run to the bathroom because i feel like im going to puke. I keep sweating too and i feel hot and sticky. I hope the side effects wear off soon but after reading these comments i don't think i'll be that lucky. I don't plan on taking this again. The side effects are worse than actually being sick.

This is crazy...I had this IUD place on 12-2-08 exactly 1 month later to the date & I'm starting to experience some if not all of the same symptoms I'm reading about. My husband had a vasectomy after our last child so, I'm not using it for BC but, more less because I had such horrible periods. So, in order to bypass a hysterectomy my Kaiser doctor suggested Mirena. The procedure was painful even with the anesthetic I was like oh my Gosh!! (I wasn't even told to come back in 6 weeks to have a checkup only if I was having problems) I had cramping for about 1 day then after that I thought all was good. Well, that's what I thought until my husband and I had sex since the procedure. During the climax I experienced such a painful feeling in my uterus as if it was spasms, squeezing or a really hard cramp. The pain was so severe I had to stop in the middle of sex & couldn't continue. It did this about once or twice every time we had sex then, it stopped. Now the sex is amazing. My SEXUAL DRIVE has really increased. About a week ago, I was feeling overwhelmed with my daughter's Bday & Xmas. I was really tired just really exhausted. I stayed in the house for 3 days straight. Didn't feel like getting out of bed, getting dressed, going anywhere, cooking or doing anything. I just wanted to lay in bed. I really didn't know or understand what was going on. I told my husband I didn't feel depressed or nothing I just didn't feel like doing anything. Well, now I know I was depressed. I've never felt or had any experience of this sort. Then, on yesterday I had alot of lower back pain, headaches along with cramping in my R-ovary. Not to mention the irregular spotting since the IUD has been placed. I knew I would have irregular spotting but, how long is irregular going to be irregular. And after reading several blogs I'm starting to reconsider this. I"ve had alot of issues with BC starting with the pills (forgetting to take them), the DEPO shot (would not recommend to a dog), the Patch & now the Mirena. MayB, it's time to leave all of this along and just get the hysterectomy. But, wait won't that throw me into menopause at an early age. I'm only 31. Not sure what to do?

It took doctors and nurses approximately 7 hours to get me to come out of the effects of Anectine. When I first came to realize I was aware of my surroundings, I was completely paralyzed and was on a respirator. While I laid in recovery after I became aware of my surroundings, a nurse would yell my name and rub my shoulders extremely hard to make me feel pain so I would come out of the effects. Once I did, I gagged on the respirator and it was removed, however, I was groggy for several days and stayed in the hospital. By the way, I was in the hospital for a 15-20 minute surgery to have my throat scrapped (tonsils grew tags or were not removed completely at age 8). I was 18 years old at the time. Talk about a raw throat with a respirator being pulled out of it. I didn't eat anything for 3 weeks. My children are not allowed to have Anectine either, because there is no test that can be performed to see if they would have the same reaction as I. It is not an allergic reaction, but one that is brought on by one gene from my mother and one from my father that caused me to react as I did. I was told if I was to be under an anesthetic longer than 20 minutes and Anectine were used, I would die.
