I am 44 years old and have been taking singulair for about 4 years. 3 months ago I started experiencing crushing chest pain, tingling in my lower limbs, and felt very stressed out. I went to the ER last Thursday and was checked out for angina - the ER doctor told me I was suffering from chronic severe anxiety. I took Ativan for 4 days and felt better, but now the drigs are gone and I again having constant chest pain. In doing some research I found that anxiety can be caused by imbalance in adrenaline, and so started looking online to see if any of the allergy/asthma meds I am taking (adviar, singulair, allegra) can affect adrenaline. That';s when I found this website. Although i find the testimony compelling, I wish more folks would have poted about how their symptoms improved (or didn't) AFTER discontinuing singulair. Also I've noticed many of the stories are about children not adults; many people are taking more than one med for asthma, and most people's symptoms seem to come on right away whereas I have been taking sinulair for years and only recently have anxiety. I will stop singulair tonight and see what happens, but am wondering if anyone has come across further research that correlates singiulair with anxiety? My job life is really peaceful, I am otherwise happy, work can get hectic but that's true of any job, and I am out of ideas as to why suddenly at age 44, when I eat right and exercise - why get anxiety? Thanks for the posts, I'll try to remember to follow up after I am off Singulair for a few weeks.

I've been on Ocella -- a generic form of Yasmin -- since late March/early April. I only started taking it because I was on a different birth control pill in another country (no side effects there) and then moved to the US in December and when the other pill ran out (not available in the US) my doctor in the US prescribed Ocella (Yasmin).
About ten days ago I went to the ER -- I discovered I have Supra Vesicular Tachycardia (SVT) -- apparently a condition a person is born with but doesn't discover until their 20s, 30s, later or never.
Then last night I went to the ER because I was having pressure across my chest. They did EKGs, blood work and then even admitted me to the hospital for the night and did a stress test the next day. Everything came back normal, yet the cardiology nurse prescribed (as a precaution??) an aspirin regimen (this would be to prevent stroke, blood clots I suppose) as well as 0.4 nitroglycerin only in case of chest pains. On the discharge papers it says I should go back to the ER if, after three doses of nitro, the pressure does not subside.
I read the medical insert for Ocella tonight. It mentions "pectoral angina" (chest pain) as well as stroke, blood clots, etc. as possible side effects of Ocella. I'm inclined to stop taking it.
I've also had some bowel issues but I don't know whether those might be caused by the pill as well?

I have been taking Vagifem 25 mcg for about 3 months (about every other night or 3 times per week). I am starting to have chest pains. It feels like what might be angina, though I have never had chest pains in my life before. The drug information enclosed with the prescription does say that chest pain can be a rare but serious side effect. Anyone else had this side effect?

I am a 46 y/o male whom took lipitor 20mg for about 10 days. It was the first medication taken for me aside from occasional antibiotics. Within a week I began to develop severe nausea, weakness, postural dizziness and worst of all, chest pain at rest! I took my last dose last Saturday 8/9/08. Because of the chest pain, I went to the ER on 8/10/08 and discharged the next day after I ruled out for an MI and a negative exercise stress test. My chest pain recurred on 8/12. This AM awoke with nausea, dizziness and chest pain again. I'm going to have an adenosine stress test this PM. I consulted a pharmacologist yesterday about the metabolism of Lipitor and she told me indeed these side effects are not uncommon and in my case, Lipitor will not be eliminated from my body until probably this Sunday or early next week. Anyone experience what I'm feeling?

My GP, (doctor) prescribed Niaspan Prolonged Release Nicotinic acid (Ph Eur) 8 days ago to lower bad cholesterol. It came in a starter pack 7x375mg - 7x500mg-7x750mg for three weeks to run consecutively, which I take in conjunction with Zimverstatin 40mg nightly. First 7 nights, no problem, last night started the second week dosage...and after taking the first 500mg tab, I got busy on my com for a while...as you do...then Bang! I began to burn up inside, sweat leapt out of me like a garden sprinkler, I went weak, nauseous, ran to the loo (Toilet) ran around the house in sheer panic as my heart raced so fast, it felt like one continuous beat, then I nearly collapsed. On passing the bathroom mirror I saw my palour had gone to a waxy-grey, then I instinctively took two 75mg aspirin, and in the end collapsed on the bed. I woke up about 20 minutes later and realized I was not in heaven as my room was still as untidy as it normally was...never mind. I am waiting for a call-bcak from my GP...there are things I need to know as I suffer with angina....thanks for reading this.

Hello all,
I'm a 45-yr old Air Force Major (Male) recently diagnosed with asymptomatic chronic Atrial Fibrillation (As in I have it and was walking around not knowing it). When I went to see the cardiologist, my B.P. was only 120 / 74 (Which, until they changed the rules, used to be normal)and he puts me on Diovan 80mg once a day plus Coumadin 5mg. Well the Diovan almost made me faint and I had numbness in both arms, plus a funky rash, kind of like chicken pox showing up on my arms and thighs.
I went online and read horror stories of Diovan so I stopped taking it immediately (I had only taken four doses and never had any horrible symptoms until after I took the meds!). Then the Dr. put me on an Event Monitor and it showed I was indeed in A-fib all the time, plus at night, my heart was racing briefly to 200 a minute while I was sound asleep. So he puts me on Toprol XL 100mg once a day.
Immediately I had trouble sleeping (Which I never had before, ever!) with crazy dreams and tossing/turning. My B.P. dropped to 88/65 and my fibrillating heart rate was 64!!! I was so mad because I actually felt better before the meds. I found this site and saw what everyone was posting and immediately took myself off the Toprol XL.
The day after stopping the Toprol I had slight chest pains (Like angina or gas bubble) but they went away on their own. I slept fine the next night.
I'm having an Electro-Cardiversion done on the 21st July to see if I can stop the A-fib and get in normal rhythm. I know the Dr. is going to be mad at me for stopping the Diovan and Toprol, but I'm sorry, I'm convinced there is a better way to beat all this (Namely exercise and eating right). Being in the service means you have to be Mr. Physical and Mental "perfect" all the time. I cannot afford to be diagnosed with depression in my line of work! Thanks to all on this website and I wish you the best.
PS. for those who think I'm being ignorant of my medication, I have a nice fat insurance policy and Power of attorney for my wife and kid in the event I keel over!!! I may be medication intolerant but at least I took care of my family.

My Doctor upped my Niaspan ER from 1000 MG to 2000 MG per day. Reason to get my Total Cholesterol down below my present reading of 168. He also put me on a new drug called Ranexa, 500 MG Tabs twice a day.
It has been a month now and I have started to have a loss of energy and heart stress problems. Before taking the increase dosage of Niaspan, I felt a lot better

I have been off of toprol for over a month now. I had some withdrawal effects, pains in my chest, ringing in my ears, headaches, few other minor ones but I am glad to be off the medicine. I am not having the pains in my chest now, they were like angina and I had never had them before I started the meds. I no longer have that foggy head feeling and my memory seems much better. I also am not as fatigued now. I also had gotten very depressed but not sure if it was from toprol or from another med. But now I seem to be out of that funk. Good luck everyone!!!

I have been taking toprol xl for approximately 9 mos. It was givien to me for rapid heart beat. My dosage has been doubled twice so that I am on 50 mg. I hate this medicine. I still have some rapid heart beat, I wake up every two hours at night, my legs hurt, and I have gained 20 lbs. I also wonder if it is this medicine that makes me sweat profusely. When I am doing yard work, or anything else in the summer heat, the water just pours off of me. I have never been a heavy sweater and I am out of doors all of the time. I want to get off of this stuff. Can I wean myself off by lowering the dosage a week at a time?

Started Lisinopril a week ago (20mg) and so far, so good. Had been on HCTZ for several years but it really didn't work very well. My Doc, who is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and also practices Integrative and Holistic medicine, said that my blood test indicated that Diuretic BP meds are not what I need, rather, I need something to ease the tension in my circulatory system. Hence the Lisinopril. Only side effect so far is slight tingling in right hand and foot in the evenings. Not bothersom, just noticible. BP has gone from 195/105 to 128/18 so it's really working. I feel bad for those having bad side effects. It's working for me.

I have been taking Toprol for about a year for elevated heart rate. It slowed down my heart allright, and my metabolism slowed down with it! I've gained 20 lbs in a year! I joined Weight Watchers 9 weeks ago expecting to lose about 10 lbs by now. I keep a food journal, eat per the program and exercise 5 times a week. I have lost NOTHING. It is very depressing when you do everything that you're supposed to to lose weight and nothing happens. I am going to discuss other alternatives with my physician.

Have been taking toprol for 2 years. Have had leg pain and cramping, mental confusion, very constipated, developed diabetes and have cold hands and feet. Doctor says I must take this med and I am trying to have him prescribe an alternative. Stopping abruptly is out of the question according to the cardiologist as it may cause angina or heart attack. Anyone out there experience constipation or some of the other adverse side effects?

USE PERIWINKLE as a BP herbal med to lower pressure but be careful.
Hemostatic, reduces blood pressure.
Periwinkle is used for circulatory disorders, cerebral circulatory impairment, support for the metabolism of the brain and its improved oxygen supply, prophylaxis of memory and concentration impairment, improvement of memory and thinking capacity, mental productivity, prevention of premature aging of brain cells, for geriatric support, as a sedative and as a blood pressure-lowering remedy, for catarrhs, feebleness, and for improvement of the immune function, for diarrhea, vaginal flux, throat ailments, tonsillitis and angina, sore throat, intestinal inflammation, toothache, dropsy, as a diuretic and blood-purifying remedy, for promotion of wound healing, as a hemostatic remedy, and a bitter principle.
Individuals with low blood pressure or those individuals taking medications to lower blood pressure should not take Vinca minor due to the possibility that blood pressure may become too low.

My doctor took me off toprol and put me on a ace inhibitor
I was on toprol xl 100mg for 7 years. I gained over 100 lbs and was tired all the time. I started to experience anxiety attacks about 5 weeks ago. I want to know if she should have stopped my toprol without tapering me off. I have had angina, tingling in my head and headaches after being taken off. I did not expeience any of this before. i was told i could get tacartia from just stopping. does anyone know?.

In the evenings, my legs become exceedingly heavy feeling as I try to walk around the house or whatever. Also, I feel a hyperactive presence although my pulse and heartbeat don't necessarily rise. I also experience some angina. I am mainly concerned with the heaviness in my hamstrings and the body rush.
I am also on plavix, ace inhibitors (metoprolol), beta blockers (enalapril) and prevacid.
I had a heart attack July 5 and have been on this medication since then.
Thank you for a response.

there is some evidence that stopping a statin results in an increase in platelet stickiness during the first 2-3 weeks after the drug is stopped. i have often wondered if that accounts for clinton's angina..there are things that will decrease platelet stickiness. you could ask your doc what would halp decrease platelet stickiness--ask him/her about the use of aspirin or anything else that may help you over that period

Started taking the Zocor generic Simvistatin just 2 days ago. My legs hurt so bad that I can not sleep. My right knee is swollen to the point I have very limited range of motion and can barely walk up stairs. It is after midnight and I can't sleep. Also having some angina and my little toe on my right foot is somewhat numb. I will be contacting my physician about this tomorrow. My cholesterol was 105 and this doesn't seem to be worth it to me!
