I had taken Bactrim in the past without a problem. My daughter, however, has a history of rashes associated with Sulfa drug use. I didn't say anything to the doctor that gave it to me for a sinus infection. With in 5 days of taking it, I came down first with some pain in my neck. We were on vacation and sleeping in a new bed, so I dismissed it. By the end of the week, I had a fever going up to 103. The following day, my neck pain was so bad, that I had ice on my lymph nodes. The day after that I had broken out in a rash so bad that it looked like I had a terrible sunburn. My skin was even hot to the touch. By this time, I had realized it was from the medicine, and stopped taking it. The rash isn't as red, but it did spread out to my arms, legs, and torso. I called my doctor when I got home, and he just said to take an over the counter antihistamine, but I was not referred anywhere else. After doing research on the internet and carefully reviewing the warnings from CVS (where I picked up the medicine) I believe that I have Stephens-Johnson Syndrome caused by Bactrim. This is actually listed on the warnings, but not what the symptoms are of this illness. It has been more than a week, and I still have the rash, although not as bad as it was last week.

My son is off singulair for two weeks now and is showing improvements. He was on it for 7 years and at the beginning we blamed it on steriods, even though his dose was low. When he went off the steroids, the behavior didn't stop. I questioned the allerist if the singulair could be doing it, but was told no, it doesn't have those side effects. I don't blame the doctors because they weren't given the info. He was extremely emotional, cried for no reason, had no confidence, didn't like himself. We on more than one occasion have told his older sister that when he hits his teenage years we would have to watch him for suicide, as his reaction to problems was sooo out of whack! He was on motrin for headaches 4-5 days a week(blamed it on sinusses). Unexplained stomachaches. These symptoms came on over years, not right away. I have always thought that the steroids had done damage because he took them when he was so young. Until the news reports hit, and I started reading other people's stories and doing the "OMG, that's my kid!", I never put the problems on singulair. I was still skeptical, but took him off. His symptoms immediately got 100x's worse for a week. But funny thing is, his headaches are gone, his stomachaches are gone and he seems much less emotional. The strangest thing is, EVERY night, he comes in to kiss us good night 7 or 8 times, and sometimes by the 7th time he is crying and can't explain why. This has been going on for YEARS, EVERYNIGHT, never a break. It stopped! Just stopped cold 7 days ago. Comes in once, says goodnight, leaves and falls asleep. I know this isn't a coincidence. After years of wondering what's wrong with my kid, now I feel like I've been poisoning my him for 7 years. I'm not skeptical anymore.

My 7year daughter has been taking Singulair for 3 years. I cannot believe that her symptoms that she has been having is just like all the others. I did not know what was causing it until finding this site. I believe that it is Singulair. She get very emotional and cries over the littlest things, seems depressed sometimes, wakes up itching, headaches especially at night, and the last few days she is like having anxiety attack . She doesn't want to go to school anymore and she has always loved school. Her heart has been racing and she shakes. I took her to the ER and they did an ekg, blood work. Could not find anything wrong. They said it sounds like a drug reaction or side effect. She was taking Palgic antihistamine, and Singulair. He told me to take her off the Palgic. He said he thought it was causing the heart to race. She is not any better. Know I am wondering if it is the Singulair. I guess I will be taking her off it to see if she improves.

Oh my God! The itching is horrible! I woke up and my eyes crossed from the severity. I could not even go to work. After taking Sufameth/trimethoprim for 2 days (2 pills/da) for a UTI, my scalp started to itch. I scratched all day with a pencil...to no avail. Later that day, the vaginal and rectal itch was unmerciful. Vagisil maximum COULD NOT TOUCH it. I scheduled a gyne appointment because I thought, maybe I was developing something else...yeast infection. But there were no other signs. My husband suggested it could be an allergic reaction to the medicine. My nurse suggested I take an antihistimine like Benadryl. That provided some relief. Now I see similar postings on the web about severe itching. Thank goodness I only have one more pill of this 3 day treatment.

I just took Levaquin for a sinus infection. Within an hour I got hives all over my entire body. I've never gotten hives before and they were extremely itchy. I took an antihistimine and went to the emergency room. While I was there I started getting very shaky and dizzy. I don't know what would have happened if I hadn't taken the antihistimine. The doctor told me that Levaquin can do some "funny" stuff to people and to NEVER take it again since my body is allergic to it. I've been taking Benadryl and am now feeling better but still have a few hives left. It's scary what one pill can do to a person. I've taken other antibiotics from the same drug family and nothing like this has ever happened before.

I took this for about three weeks for acne. On the day the side effects started, it started with a back ache. Then the next day my hands and feet started itching like CRAZY. I didn't connect this with the sulfameth though. I started taking Benedryl to get relief from the itching. Two days after going mad from itching my hands and feet, I started getting chills and nausea, and I started itching all over my body. This got worse throughout the day, until at night I went to an urgent care clinic. The doctor there immediately said it was from the sulfameth. He gave me a shot to help with the symptoms. That did help with the nausea and chills, but the itching stayed with me for THREE WEEKS. My dermatologist gave me a prescription-strength antihistimine, but even though the sulfameth was no longer in my system, she said I could continue to react for weeks! I'm better now but am completely horrified by this drug.

Levaquin works very well for my sinus infections. However, this time I developed a light, very itchy rash on various areas of my body. It has really been driving me nuts and I have taken an antihistimine to help counteract this.

I use proventil periodically (5x/month) when I have trouble breathing, typically spurred on by over-extertion, proximity to something that triggers allergy (such as cat). Laterly have suffered from swollen toungue; particularly at night I have trouble swallowing, and when I lie down I feel as if I am going to swallow my tougue. I am not sure if this is linked but doctors can not figure what is causing this swollen toungue. I am taking antihistimine every day (one week so far), but no help.

I have been taking prednisone for severe chronic urticaria (hives) for 14 years. The good outwieghs the bad here because I would be dead by now if I was not on it. I would have killed myself. Before I was on it, my face would swell up so that I could not see, barely breathe and definitely not talk. On top of this I had hives on every inch of me, my hands so badly swollen that I could not close them, my feet so swollen even standing hurt and walking was like treading on knives. If that was not bad enough I had extreme nausea and could not keep even water down. Sleeping was completely out of the question and trying to do anything at all but sit and scratch was also out of the question. The only side effects I have had are extreme weight gain (60 the first year and in the additional years it has become a grand total of 150 lbs) I have doubled my weight since I started the medication. By the way I excercised like a hamster on crack and it did not help. I have pitting edema, an ulcer and I now bruise very easily. Over the years I have taken every antihistimine ever conceived as well as tried many other remedies. I have been on anti rejection medications, asthma medicine and even arthritis medication. At one point I was on Zantac and Proventil to see if that might do it. Unfortunately prednisone is the only thing that has worked for me. I have even tried some herbal remedies. I would wrap myself in aluminum foil if it would make my hives disappear, unfortunately it ended up being fat and pitting edema in which I have been wrapped. I can handle it. Getting fat is not the end of the world, not living my life is the end of everything! So take the vitamins and the detoxifiers and suck it up!

Help!! Has anyone experienced severe swelling of the lips? (Appears to be a type of "cheilitis" and some on-line info ties ACE inhibitors to cheilitis.) This started about 11 hours ago - Dr. treated as allergic reaction with steroid pack and antihistimine which was supposed to produce near immediate results. IT'S GETTING WORSE BY THE MINUTE!!! My lips are about to split open they're so big and the swelling has also extended to the lower jaw area.
