The example that I am posting below is not the only patent for an aminoquinoline derivative that is proposed for the treatment of neuro-psychiatric disorders. Even though we are not comparing exact chemical structures, it is certainly worth considering how the quinolines relate to this receptor.
It is also worth considering why montelukast, a quinoline, seems to be causing some of the problems that this owners of this particular patent think that they can treat.
As I mentioned before, I have no answers. Regardless of how small Merck believes the population of Singulair patients who suffer neuro-psychiatric disorders is, I do not believe that any patient should be ignored. It also seems that many companies have studied this area in depth and more than one company knows a lot more than we know about why it is possible for these side effects to happen.
" The compounds of formula I have a good activity on the 5-HT.sub.5A receptor. Therefore, the invention further provides methods for the treatment of depression (which term includes bipolar depression, unipolar depression, single or recurrent major depressive episodes with or without psychotic features, catatonic features, melancholic features, atypical features or postpartum onset, seasonal affective disorders and dysthymia, depressive disorders resulting from a general medical condition including, but not limited to, myocardial infarction, diabetes, miscarriage or abortion), anxiety disorders, (which includes generalized anxiety and social anxiety disorder, panic disorders, agoraphobia, social phobia, obsessive compulsive disorders, post-traumatic stress disorders, psychotic disorders (which includes schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorders, bipolar disease, mania, psychotic depression, and other psychoses involving paranoia and delusions), pain (particularly neuropathic pain), memory disorders (including dementia, amnesic disorders and age-associated memory impairment), disorders of eating behaviors (including nervosa and bulimia nervosa), sexual dysfunction, sleep disorders (including disturbances of circadian rhythm, dyssomnia, insomnia, sleep apnea and narcolepsy), withdrawal from abuse of drugs (such as of cocaine, ethanol, nicotine, benzodiazepines, alcohol, caffeine, phencyclidine and phencyclidine-like compounds, opiates such as cannabis, heroin, morphine, sedative hypnotic, amphetamine or amphetamine-related drugs), motor disorders such as Parkinson's disease, dementia in Parkinson's disease, neuroleptic-induced Parkinsonism and tardive dyskinesias, as well as other psychiatric disorders and gastrointestinal disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome (WO 2004/096771). As a pediatrician I write for singulair every day.
The medication is for allergies.
Allergies cause adenoidal swelling, which cause sleep disturbances which makes the child tired the next day with makes him over weight, less attentive, hyper and eventually act out.
This in turn makes the child experience parental, peers and teachers criticism/ abuse, with leads to the child feel inadequate, embarrassed, frustrated and eventually depressed and suicidal.
Yes, singulair does cause behavioral change but they appear within the first couple of peels, the rest is due to allergies, lack of medical care, i.e. sleep, singulair, and zyrtec deficiency.
Allergy shots cause 4 times the incidence of suicidally than singulair, and Ritalin 10 times more.
They say in hebrew "once a stone is thrown into a well, thousands of smart people won't find it".
Check it, it's true.

I feel sick to my stomach over this. I didn't see the report on the news, but my husband told me a little about it. I didn't look till today and when I read all these postings I can't believe it. My 7 year old daughter has been on Singulair for several years. The past couple of months she has been having some anxiety issues. She started talking about death. Fear of others dying, and today she told me she didn't want to die. She is afraid to go into any room herself, unless someone goes with her (which was never an issue before), and she is super sensitive. Everything gets her upset. I can't believe this all could have been caused by a drug I thought was helping her prevent her asthma. Last night was her last singulair. I hope she gets back to her old self soon.

It was real cool! ahha. everything was like molding and moving into one! ahha. anyway. I was also wondering about what happens if you snort Zoloft. I have a few lines in front of me. although I did see one thing of a guy who I assume, has snorted it because there was a question"what happens if you snort Zoloft"..Answer.. don't do it, no good ..makes you feel crappy, etc"..

Oh wow I am so happy to have found this site. In the last few months I have been feeling lower and lower in myself, this together with my complete and utter loss of sex drive is just getting beyond a joke. My boyfriend thinks it's him and he goes on and on about whether I still want to be with him etc etc and it's just making me feel worse so it's a terrible vicious circle.
I've been thinking about whether it was my pill for a few months now, I changed to Yasmin about a year ago now after my previous pill was giving me terrible mood swings and uncontrollable rage. I did notice a slight improvement in my moods at the very beginning but this has now led to anxiety, heavy breakthrough bleeding, irritability and a general feeling of low self worth which gets worse and worse by the day.. great for Christmas time!
I've now resolved to stop taking this pill and any pill for that matter. I'm going to see how I get on with no medical birth control and try to get my head and hopefully my sex drive back to normal.
I'm so glad to have found this and that it's not just me. I would not recommend this to ANYONE so if you are reading this to get an idea on whether to opt for this then I would say no.

Was prescribed prednisone 10mg dose pack. Took my first days worth and by bedtime my heart was beating so fast it felt as if it was going to pop out of my chest and burst. I went to the hospital and per the doctors there, SVT is not a reaction to prednisone. Anyways, left hospital with a clear bill of health, heart was in good condition.
Now, If it wasn't the prednisone that caused this rapid heart beat, what was it? I really think that the prednisone was the cause but as long as I'm not sure, I fear this will happen again out of the blue.

I am in the zoloft 50 mg since 2 months for anxiety disorders and hence depression. Initially it gave me abnormal side effects but after two or three weeks it slowed down now there is very low side effects. I used to feel that i am going to die or my heart is going to stop work in the time of side effects.
it worked me initially and i felt good for few days. I can work, i can live happily i used to think so but now a days my previous condition is trying to return back and i feel anxiety again but i am still taking the medicine.
can any one suggest me why it returned back? is it due to the low dose or what?

Anxiety and Psychiatric Disorders
Magnesium deficiency causes increased levels of adrenaline, which can lead to a feeling of anxiety. Rats who become magnesium deficient have an increased level of urinary catecholamine excretion (a by-product of adrenaline).
People who have mitral valve prolapse have also been found to have an increased state of anxiety and have an increased level of urinary catecholamine excretion, the exact same condition found in rats who are Mg deficient.
It is not surprising then, to find that people with mitral valve prolapse are usually low in magnesium, and that magnesium supplementation alleviates the symptoms of mitral valve prolapse and reduces the level of urinary catecholamine excretion, i.e. it also reduces the anxiety symptoms.
Researchers in Spain found a correlation between anxiety disorders and hypermobility. In fact, they found that patients with anxiety disorder were over 16 times more likely than control subjects to have joint laxity. If you put the study results together, then there's a link between anxiety and hypermobility, a link between anxiety and mitral valve prolapse, and a link between mitral valve prolapse and hypermobility.
These studies tell us that anxiety disorders occur in many people who simply have mitral valve prolapse and/or joint hypermobility, meaning anxiety disorders are not specific to EDS or any particular connective tissue disorder. Marfans also have mitral valve prolapse and joint hypermobility which would lead one to conjecture that they, too, have anxiety related disorders. As it turns out, a connection between Marfans and anxiety related disorders has been noted.
A study in Bulgaria also found magnesium abnormalities in patients with schizophrenia and depression. The authors thought the schizophrenia and depression caused the magnesium deficiencies, but I disagree that that was necessarily the case. When you look at this study within the context of all the other studies mentioned in this section, it is more likely that the magnesium abnormalities caused the mental illness. (There are quite a few studies on magnesium and mental illness on Medline. I just included a few to highlight my points.)
In a study from England, there was a strong association for more disturbed and excitable patients to have abnormal (either high or low) magnesium levels. The authors thought that the patients who seemed most disturbed may have some abnormality of magnesium metabolism.
To read up on the link between cholesterol levels and anxiety and depression, see my web page on low cholesterol levels.

hi guest 33998.
you are quite right, you do need to get off it! i never really had what i would call anxiety before. i have always been shy and what i would call "cautious" i did have a few panic attacks growing up but they were very very few and far between and were mainly linked to my shyness! i started on yasmin in jan 05 and by july 05 i was a complete wreck,i was so scared i could not even walk my kids the 2 min walk to school,i couldn't go out of the house at all but i was also afraid to be in the house. it really spiralled out of control.i was not taking any other medication either,i pretty much use herbs and vitamins apart from the odd aspirin here and there! i bought all kinds of programmes for anxiety disorders and while they helped me understand my fears and feelings and gave me some great coping techniques i still did not understand how i had developed an anxiety disorder....until i found this site.....it made sense that it could well be this pill and the synthetic hormones that were causing all the panic attacks and aches & pains. sure enough i stopped taking yasmin 8 months ago and have just been getting better and better...the anxiety is now just a background feeling, barely noticable most of the time, and i suspect it is me that holds on to the feelings as memories and make myself more anxious than i actually am. all the other physical side effects have now pretty much subsided. to me it was like have the worst case of constant pms (the clinical defintion not the oooh i feel a bit pmsie type !) constant sore boobs, back ache, stomach pains, sinus problems, racing heart, palpitations, frequent urination, headaches, hair loss, bloating, pins and needles, shaking, muscle weakness...the list goes on. i would suggest that you come off yasmin, take a good multivit with b6 and extra magnesium and zinc.give your body a good few months to get rid of the build up of synthetic hormones then consider your future contraceptive options when you are feeling back to normal. well done for being able to cope with your anxiety it can be so hard sometimes to deal with but you sound like you cope really well.
best of luck to you whatever you decide to do,if you need any help or advice in the future please come back here, there are so many wonderful women on this site that all know how you feel and will all help if they can.

This medication turns me into a walking waste of human. It makes you too tired and can even cause you to have mild feelings of scary shaky euphoria.... they should just use this for anxiety disorders, for allergies this is not my favorite.......

Dear Medications.com:
I cannot thank you enough for this site. Just yesterday I was prescribed Cipro for a nagging UTI which seemed to only partially get better with Doxycycline HYC. After only 3 Cipro pills I am stopping!! And will never take Cipro again. I take responsibility for rushing back to my doctor at the emergency care clinic and asking 'now what' after the Doxycycline was finished--we Americans are so quick to want the next candy pill with more strength! So even though my initial urinalysis showed no dangerous / STD bacteria present, because I was still urinating too frequently my doc suggested Cipro. I trusted him and took the first pill last night--I got a terrible headache, woke up promptly at 3:30 AM and had trouble returning to sleep. Got up this morning, took the 2nd pill and by early afternoon, was so tired and aching I had to lay down for 1.5 hrs..I felt miserable. Then this afternoon, after taking my 3rd pill, that's when I began to feel occasional tingling in my joints, hot pain in my knee capsules, continuing low-grade ache to my head, the feeling that my esophagus was shrinking, etc..... EVERYTHING you guys all have reported.
I got on the internet and thank God I found your site. After 2 hrs of my own research and the testimony of so many people, including tons of once-healthy, athletic persons whose lives have been destroyed irreparably by Cipro, I took my healthcare into my own hands, called my pharmacist and said 'I'm finished touching Cipro...never again will I take it.'.
This drug is more toxic than anything I've ever taken, and the way my body has begun to react in only 24 hrs, it is obvious that the drug co's are playing with fire on this compound. We as people must stand up and take action, and educate our doctors. I am taking some info. into him tomorrow, telling him i will be on a strict cranberry juice and kidney/liver tea detox program for the next few weeks to see if these 'natural' methods might help me rid my system of the bacteria.
In any case, I refuse to use Cipro ever again and hope that many more people will read these pages before ingesting any or too much of this dangerous drug.
