This is the second time my 9 month old has been prescribed this antibiotic. The fist time, she was 5 months old and after 3 days had a 'rectal fissure' (supposedly since she had a positive test for bloody stool) and the medication was discontinued. Just about two weeks ago, she was prescribed it again. She had the red/rusty stools and I took her in and it was negative for blood. She has been refusing to eat and extremely irritable. After 7 days of this antibiotic, I took her back in for a recheck. Her ears were clear and the antibiotic was discontinued. She has been off of the antibiotic for 5 days now and is still irritable, having explosive diahrea diapers 4 to 5 times a day and refusing to eat. Currently we are monitoring her for dehydration and giving only pedialyte for feeds. She has had a total of 16 ounces yesterday and had 13 ounces today. She has had continued diahrea and has had 2 very barely wet diapers now.
My four year old was on this medication a couple of times and never had any trouble. I am concerned however about the reactions that have been experienced this time around. I hope that no other parent has to endure this with their child. Personally, I will request something other than Omnicef in the future.

I'm hoping to hear back from someone about this. I've been on Yasmin for about 1 1/2 years now. I never had any trouble with it until this cycle of pills. The first night I started the new pack I woke up in the morning with a metallic taste in my mouth. I kept taking them but now on day 6 of this pack I still have the taste in my mouth and my tongue is starting to feel numb as well as the left side of my lip. Anyone else have this side effect? I'm really concerned and ready to stop my pills.

I'm so glad I googled side effects of Yasmin and found this site. All of the sudden my mood swings for the past almost YEAR make sense. I started out fine. The pill was great, and I haven't had to worry about acne at all. Of course I gained a few pounds, but not too much. However, I'm a pre medical student trying to study for the MCAT this summer. I've been SO tired and drained and majorly depressed that I just can't seem to concentrate. I feel like I'm always crying over the stupidest stuff (AKA: no reason at ALL), and my grades are starting to suffer. Hopefully now that I've read this, I can stop taking this pill and see an improvement. It's just not worth the depression. I'm 22 right now, and until recently had never had a suicidal thought. I was starting to panic, because I couldn't identify the cause of my depression. I'm a good student, have lots of friends, and have the most amazing boyfriend and family. Life is good, I shouldn't feel this bad. Now that I have a clue as to what this may be, I can fix it.

I have been taking Yasmin for 2 yrs now. I had some side effects when I first started it...like the ones that you all are listing, but after the first 2 or 3 weeks all of them went away and I have not had any trouble with it since then. Every month before I start my period, I always get a headache but I just figure that it is my hormones. My husband and I are really pleased with Yasmine, as my mood swings are no more...yeah....I sure hope that you guys find something that works for you. Good Luck

I've been on simvastatin, (Zocor's generic) 5 mg, for about 2 months now & am experiencing pain in the ball of my left foot, and middle toes. I'm 53 years old, and have never had any trouble whatsoever with my feet. I was put on simvastatin to lower my LDL which is 152. My HDL is 82. I'm due to go in for my blood works in another week and a half, but I would like to stop taking the prescription now, but I will probably wait to see if it has lowered my LDL. This sure isn't worth the pain.

I have been taking Singulair since January 2003. It really helped my exercise induced asthma. In the summer of 2004, I had a tooth pulled and a bridge put in. My teeth and jaws started hurting and the dentist couldn't figure out any reason why they were. In the summer of 2005, while still on the Singulair, my left arm and neck started hurting leading me to believe I may be having heart problems. I had my heart checked out, and everything looked good. Last summer, still taking Singulair, I began having trouble swallowing pills. I finally stopped taking the Singulair the first of October 2006, and my teeth and jaws quit hurting; my left arm and neck quit hurting; and I don't have any trouble swallowing pills. I did get a nasty head cold a couple of months after stopping the Singulair and another one a couple of months later. I am wondering if those head colds may be associated with the Singulair as it has been many years since I have had a head cold.

Hi everyone. My main question, in case you don't want to read my long post, is: what is a normal / average amount of time to have to wait after stopping Yasmin for symptoms to start to fade / disappear? And if some symptoms begin to lessen, but not others, should I be worried that Yasmin was not the cause of those problems?
I started taking Yasmin at the end of May in place of my previous birth control. About a month and a half later, I started having vision trouble--it was difficult to focus, as if everything was moving ever so slightly. This was worst when I wore my contacts, and my vision was also blurrier when wearing them. I immediately went to my eye doctor, but they found nothing wrong with my eyes physically, and said my perscription was correct. About a month after that, I started having random bouts of sudden depression--I'd just start crying out of nowhere, and I've never had any trouble with mood swings or uncontrolled emotions like that before. I found this site about two weeks ago, and asked my doctor about switching back to my previous birth control.
Already, I don't feel so crazy-emotional and like crying, which had been the most recent symptom. However, the eye problems still persist, and they're much scarier to me--I've never had issues like this before, either. I won't be able to see my eye doctor again for about a month, and every day of that month the problems don't go away I'll probably be freaking out. So, my intial questions remain: what would be a normal amount of time for all / most symptoms to lessen / vanish after stopping Yasmin? And is it normal for some symptoms to take longer to dissipate, or should they typically fade simultaneously?
Thank you,
Jillian

I wanted to reply to Samp--did you go to an Ear/Nose/Throat specialist regarding your chronic sore throat? I, too, had a terrible non-stop sore throat that began within 2 months of starting Yasmin--I was finally diagnosed by the ear/nose doc as having acid reflux disease--which believe me I had NEVER had any trouble with prior to taking this rotten drug. I began medication and the condition cleared up (the sore throat part went away fairly rapidly but the damage from the reflux took longer to heal completely). I am not on meds now for it and have not had a recurrence.
I took Yasmin for 3 months--was chronically ill (got every cold that came to town), depressed, anxious, racing heart, palpitations, unbelievably high blood pressre, and convinced I was having serious heart trouble (even ended up in the ER once!)---I FIRMLY BELIEVE ALL OF THESE SYMPTOMS WERE A DIRECT RESULT OF TAKING YASMIN. I have been off of it a year now and am mostly back to normal with the exception of blood pressure which is still slowly coming back down to my normal of 120/70. I'm currently in the 130's for the top number, down from the 160's while on that damn pill. The blood pressure jumped from 120's before Yasmin to the 160's in the first month!!!!! This pill is dangerous.
My ear/nose guy believes the reflux was indeed related to the Yasmin--please get checked for reflux as if it is left untreated you can end up with scarring in your esophagus. I wish you all the best and would be very interested in anyone's experiences regarding changes in blood pressure.

I've been using Advair 250/50 for about 4 years now. I never had any trouble with it until this year. My throat is so irritated all the time. One way to avoid thrush is to rinse your mouth 2 or 3 times after using the Advair. I have always done this, but lately my throat is really irritated. Went to ENT and after scoping my throat he said everything looked fine...put me on antibiotics for a week, but did not help. I believe it's the Advair. There are some good natural remedies out there to help with throat irritation. Look in a health food or whole foods store.

My 10 month old was prescribed Omnicef for a severe ear infection that actually burst his eardrum. By day 4 he had the dark maroon in his stools. This is day 7 and he had the worst, most substantial diarrhea diaper I have ever seen in a child. That was this morning. After his bedtime dose and a bottle, he threw up the whole bottle and everything he ate all day, which was not much, thank god. We did not have any trouble like this when he had Amoxicillian for his first ear infection.

I have taken Singulair for one month and have had severe asthma. The doctors all told me to continue taking it but were puzzled about the asthma since my lungs were clear. Thought it could be acid reflux. No - - it was the Singulair. Same thing happened with Allegra. These medications have 3 common ingredients. I will never take either one again. Singulair also caused severe hot flashes, extreme tiredness, ringing in my ears, but the asthma was the scariest thing I have ever experienced and it went on for 1 month before I threw it out!!!! Doctors just do not understand that people are sometimes allergic to medicines and these were a nightmare for me! I missed one month of work, suffering with asthma needlessly! I am back to taking the decongestant Semprex-D as I never had any trouble with this.

I used to be on Paxil. I was prescribed this drug "to simply smooth life's edges." I didn't always feel like I was in a good mood, was midly depressed and suffered with mild anxiety attacks. Had feelings of being a little lost and confused and the littlest things would upset me to the point of tears. I was over sensitive about almost everything. Paxil was the best thing that ever happened to me during that period of time. It did exactly with the doctor said it would do. It is a mild antidepressant that will just take the "edge" off. I was taking 25mg CR and I only took them for a month and a half until I felt better. I weaned myself off with less and less dosage day by day. A few months later I started having similar feelings like before and took another 1-month session. Fixed me again, just like before. Took me through a stressful time and eased my feelings of anxiety until I was able to control things and pull through my mild depression. It's been about a year and a half and I haven't needed Paxil again.
I've read all of these postings and I was concerned by all the bad side effects. I had heard in advance about the decreased sex drive thing but I was willing to deal with it. Turns out the drug increased my sex drive. I just felt better about everything. Things that would normally bother me didn't. Anxiety attacks with scared feelings and shortness of breath were just non-existent. Never had any trouble sleeping and my mood swings were totally in check. Actually, even though I been off the Paxil for about 1.5 years, I feel like I learned how to control my mood swings and some anger. I am a much more rational person today than I was then. People talk about side effects such as lucid dreams, the occasional lose of touch with reality and weird feelings of not been all there. Are these really bad things? I am surprised this wonder drug is not illegal. I thought it was great.

I took Tequin for a sinus infection. My heasr rate went up to 130 and I thought I was going to die. I stopped taking it. The infection is back so I paid $90.00 for 7 Levaqin tabs yesterday. My heart did not race with this drug, but I had extreme weakness and lots of diarrhea. I have not had any trouble sleeping. I will continue taking it as I have been sick all month with this sinus infection. I knew the risks as I am a nurse. This drug seems to be the "drug of choice" where I work.....

I've been on some form of Paxil for about 9 years now. Overall, it has been fantastic. My anxiety is nowhere near as bad as it used to be. The only time I've had any trouble with it is if I go off it for a couple of days. The withdrawal is terrible. I get very jittery and shaky and the stomach aches I used to get before I went on this drug come back. I've tried going off it before, but have only manage to get down to 20mgs, which is where I am now. Any lower and I get withdrawal.
Paxil CR, on the other hand, was a bad idea all together. My doctor tried to switch me to that several years ago, and it was not a good experience. I became severely depressed and started having suicidal thoughts. Needless to say, I was put back on regular Paxil and everything went back to normal.
