have to agree with Mrsbarrett's post right below mine...I have been a lurker on this board for the past couple of months and thank God for it or who knows how crazy i'd be right now!! Here is a list of my side effects and pertinent information:
DOI: October 2008
Side effects were gradual and most evident around the Christmas Holidays:
Dizziness
Weird eye/vision disturbance where i'd lose focus for a moment and then be okay.
Constant spotting of "old blood" nothing much but did require pantiliners 24/7
Anxiety
Hypertension (more than ever, like when I was pregnant, 150-170s/100)
Panic Attacks
Face Dryness
ZERO SEX DRIVE
No "natural" lubrication, but who cares when you have no drive, are spotting all the time, and it hurts to have sex
Vaginal Odor
Mood Swings
Depression
FATIGUE to the point of wanting to stay in bed despite having to care for my 7.5 year old.
Chest pains (kept thinking maybe I had heart trouble, had cardiac workup that came up PERFECT and bloodwork was perfect, Thyroid test was perfect)
Nausea (morning sickness type, would get slightly better in evening but not so much)
IBS symptoms (diarrhea)

DOR: January 23, 2009
2 days later heavy bleeding for a couple of days.....had somewhat of a "crash" the first week where I was still not better. By the 2nd week post removal I was still nauseated in the morning but improved in the late afternoon and got energy boost in late afternoon.By the 3rd week I was totally back to normal!!!!! (well what's normal for crazy me! hahahahha)

My husband came with me to the doc, and she had no problem with removal. I went back for a follow up this past Friday and she saw how normal I am and that I have lost several pounds as well. She realizes I am extremely sensitive to hormone changes but says i'm the only one that she has seen like that. (how many have problems that don't think it is the Mirena...that's what I want to know???)

Anyway, that's my story and i'm sticking to it!!! If anyone would like to chat or share please let me know. I will also add that I have a Masters in Physician Assistant Studies (just not practicing since becoming a SAHM) and so I looked up tons of information to figure out what was wrong with me, I really am thankful to have found this site....medical mumbo jumbo is NOTHING when you have your body telling you something and all you fine ladies......Thanks again!

I've been on Avaine for 2 months now... And I'm feeling so crappy right now. I've always had an irregular period, where I would miss a month or two then it would come back with a vengeance and last for almost a month in a half. I never had cramping until I started taking this pill. Last month it was so unbearable I was in the fetal position at my aunts house. She tried desperately to comfort me but nothing helped. I ended up going to the emergency room. I was given morphine and some other pain meds. The doctors thought it was my appendix at first so I was given an ultrasound and a cat scan. My ovaries were fine and everything was fine. Six hours in the emergency room and I was told it was really bad menstrual pain. How lame is that? Anywho I went to Australia with my bf and well yea you know... Now I think I'm pregnant... so thanx Avaine. Not sure what to do anymore, afraid if I stop I will most definitely become pregnant. I'm going to take a test.. not ready to be a mom. Cross your fingers for mr guys!

Wow...its so nice to find this website!! Thank you!! I am 32 years old, and have never been on birth control. I decided that I wanted to try the NR because I have severe cramps, vom, etc. every month with my period. I thought the NR would be better than relying on the pill.

Anywho...I cant even begin to explain the out of control depression I am experiencing. I dont know if it is related to the NR.

If anyone can help and let me know if once they removed the NR, if they were back to themselves.

Thanks Bunches Everyone

I have been taking doxycycline for about 5 days now, 100mg 2x per day. I was fine the first couple days, but now I am noticing a bit of nausea within an hour after I take the morning dose. It normally goes away after abour one hour. I also noticed that I am rather cloudy in the head during this time, and I can't seem to form coherent thoughts. Of course I noticed this while in the grocery store trying to shop with a 10 month old. NOT A GOOD TIME!! Anywho, I am stuck with this medication since my first course of Biaxin was a failure. Hopefully it will end soon and the pneumonia will go away. So far I feel no better.

Hello,

Geedub here. I told you all that I'd keep in touch. I don't know about the rest of you guys, but I'm having difficulty logging in with the password I was given. I've entered it correctly like 25 times and it still says I'm doing it wrong! I've sent emails about this error message to the moderator this last week...to no avail. No answers and no "login". Hmmmm? Oh, well.....I guess I'll just be a "numbered guest".

At any rate, I'm a little over a week without Lipitor now and doing much better with the numbness, bone pain, random shooting pains, blurred vision, and dizziness. I told my doctor, as a courtesy to him, that I've taken myself off of the statin drug. His nurse/secretary gal called me back and tried to "straighten me out" on how I need to be on it, and warned me of the dangers of my cholesterol. However, I reminded her that the LDLs were not that big of a problem. It's my LOW HDLs that are worrisome to me and everybody else. I also reminded them of their OWN LITERATURE they gave me with the medicine...that "lifestyle changes should be tried BEFORE administering the statin drugs". Besides, Niaspan I can take and it's what is helping me raise my HDLs.

So...I basically reminded them that I was just calling as a courtesy to them that I was off of it because of bad side effects, and would keep them informed of my progress. Anywho, she was trying to be difficult and "ms. smartypants" and my cardiologist was totally understanding about it stating that it was ultimately my decision to take the meds or not. And he sort of, basically agreed with where I was coming from.

So far so good.

-Geary
