I have a little sister taking FEMCON FE shes only 15 yrs old out of no where she started acting strange. She started taking the pill for stomach cramps since in our family of girls we have chronic cramps. She got angry for no apparent reason, she got depressed, headaches, nausea, and she got cold shakes, she was ticked off at any little thing. We thought that she was just rebelling because of her age, but then I heard my mom talking about my sister taking birth control pills. I thought "oh thats it" thats the reason she's acting strange. I explained to my mom that the pill can give you a hormonal imbalance witch leads to mood swings, depression, and fatigue. Just to check out if I was right I looked up this prescription and came across this website. I read the stories and was amazed how most of the women/ girls had the same symptoms of my sister. Now I know I definitely should prevent my sister from taking this medication. I also think that if the pill is having a negative affect on you or anyone else you should stop taking it!!!!!

Mirena has helped my sex drive, I know women are different, but I seem to just get turned on for no apparent reason since about 2 weeks into the Mirena. My cramping is different than without the Mirena but definitely manageable. My periods lasted 10 days before the Mirena, with the first 5 days being extremely heavy and after having 1 period with the Mirena, I've noticed positive changes. My period was still 10 days but it was much more even, and I only used Light flow tampons the WHOLE period.
My breasts were barely an A cup before Mirena, and i had significant swelling and tenderness before my period, and after my period the swelling went down almost all the way and the tenderness was gone, but I've got a definite A cup now, plus this month's swelling is closer to a B cup. I'm hoping each month's swelling will bring me back to my before having children B cup.
I'm doing great with the Mirena. I'm sorry to see so many who it isn't working for.

Started taking Lisinopril approx. 6 years. ago. Shortly afterwards I started a spiral downwards for no apparent reason. Did not connect this med. Shortly after starting it I was put on Synthroid for low thyroid. Started having loss of balance, dizziness, vision problems, muscle and nerve pain. B/P went up instead of going down. Have been to every type of Dr. (Neurologist, Dermatologist, Endocrinologist, Internist) and every nerve & muscle test and blood work came back negative. I have extreme cold in my hands and feet, increased back pain. headaches. This past week I have broken out in a rash on my torso and down both legs. The doctors answers are that I'm suffering from depression. The irony is that when the symptoms first started I questioned if I could be having a reaction to the medication and they flat out said no. After reading some of the comments as of today I am discontinuing the Lisinopril and will searce for something natural. I'm fed up with doctors and really short on cash from all the money spent trying to find an answer.

I am on my first pack of Loestrin 24 Fe. So far I am already having mood swings, some depression, crying for no apparent reason, and spotting. No headaches so far. But I have been on other BC's before and this is not the only one with side effects. Yasmin was the first BC I was on and it did the same thing to me for the first few months. Once my body got used to it, all of my symptoms went away. I am hoping the same will happen with Loestrin. But the important thing to remember is that everyone's body is different and if the BC your on isn't working for you, then talk to your doctor about trying something else. There is no one perfect answer for everyone. I have read many of these message boards about different BC's and this one is the same as the rest. Some do well on it and some don't. Talk to your doctor.

I had a mirena put in November 2004 and just had a replacement put in two weeks ago since my 5 years would soon be up...I noticed the last 2 years that I've gained 20 lbs for no apparent reason, even when exercising, I have lower back pain that keeps me up during the night and I feel bloated all the time - I also have had extreme mood swings that I cannot explain and I'm depressed for no reason at all - my 2nd mirena has been in 2 weeks now and my breasts are so sore - I've had a headache too - the hair loss has not been extreme, but my hair has thinned. I'm contemplating having it removed since I don't feel myself at all...

I have taken hydrochlorothiazide for years and was told it was safe and worked well with blood pressure meds. I noticed that my weight gain would be 4 pounds on and off for no apparent reason. I also noticed my breasts felt like it did when I was nursing my babies when the milk came in. While on this med my potassium was off so I was on 3 fat potassium pills a day. Then I became light headed and became depressed and my mind was really awful. I knew I didn't have Alzheimer but knew something was wrong. Doctors thought I was a hypochondriac I am sure. I saw in Best Pills Worst Pills that you can have mental confusion as a side effect. I found out that when I went off of the pill for even a day the mental problems were gone and when I went back on the problems came back. After ingesting too much salt at a meal I ended up in ER. Doctor on call told me to quit my waterpill and also the potassium supplement, Since that time my weight has not fluated one ounce, my breasts no longer hurt and the mental chaos is gone. Such a relief to not have to worry where my potassium level was and never thought I would feel good mentally again as I was talking suicide. Meds they prescribe can kill us and we have to research all side effects ourselves it seems.

I am 21 years old and had my third shot last December. Since then I have been suffering from dizzy spells, bad anxiety and irregular periods. I am not completely sure that all these are because of my shot, but i really wish i had never had that last dose. My anxiety has been absolutely horrible, and lasts for days or weeks on end. My last few periods lasted for several weeks, and there seems to be no other explanation for the way i have been feeling since the end of last year. My friend works at a local hospital in cancer cell research, and amongst some of the papers she has read she has told me over 1000 girls have appeared with psychotic symptoms for no apparent reason, all after having gardasil. I hope we can all do something about this and get the word out, because i know it is affecting so many people in such a horrible way.

I got the Mirena inserted about 5 weeks after having my baby and have had hell ever since! Almost immediately after having it inserted I had a feeling like something was in my vagina, kind of like feeling a tampon in there so it was tough to get the thing off my mind. I also started having panic attacks about something being in my body (the Mirena) and it freaking me out. After only 2 days of this I had enough, I could tell my body was telling me this wasn't right. I had it put in on Mon the 3rd of this month and taken out on the 5th! I felt great until Thu morning (the 6th). I got flu like symptoms that hit hard. Nausea, no appetite, diarrhea, which soon led to weakness, tiredness, and off and on anxiety also bleeding like a period. I was so ill that I could not care for my kids (the new baby and a 3year old) only lie in bed miserable while others cared for my children. I made a Dr. appointment the next day and she said it was just the flu so to eat when I can and call on Mon if I still felt sick.
On Mon I still felt sick, I went back to the Dr. and this time she ordered blood tests and thought it may be from the IUD but could not confirm and had never heard of effects like this before from the IUD. She said to just keep doing what I was doing. The sickness lasted until the following Wed then let up although there was still some depression/anxiety feelings on occasion then all of the sudden on Sunday night I got nausea again and have been "sick" again ever since. This whole time (except the 3 or 4 days I felt OK in there) I have not really been able to eat much and have lost 11 pounds- not healthy! I have also had to pass off my kids to others to have them cared for while I can't which is totally depressing in its self. My husband is at his wits end with me pretty much disabled for no apparent reason so it is certainly putting a strain on our marriage too. I know my friends and family have tried to help as much as they can but I also know they are getting tired of the situation too. ANYONE ELSE HAS THIS EXPERIENCE? HOW LONG BEFORE I GO BACK TO BEING NORMAL??? I just really want my life back and of course I would never recommend the Mirena to anyone and if I could go back in time and not get it I SO would!!!

I am halfway into the second week of Femcon FE, I was put on it to help suppress recurrent ovarian cysts, and yeast infections. A couple a days ago, I started getting headaches. However, last night I could barely sleep, and have no idea why, and today I've had severe menstrual like cramps with irregular bleeding, the cramps are so bad I'm having trouble falling asleep. Plus, I was very moody, and sensitive over the past week or so for no apparent reason. I think I will give the doctor a call tomorrow to see if these could be attributed by the Femcon FE.

I had Mirena inserted 3 months ago and have been experiencing so much irritability that my husband and my daughter have asked me to please have it removed. The first 2 months I experienced breakthrough bleeding and this month I got a period that has lasted 8 days and I am starting to cry for no apparent reason and feel nauseous. I am really considering having it removed but don't want to go back to the pill. I will give it another month and see what happens. I hope these symptoms are temporary.

Until yesterday, I took 14 days of a 4 week prescription of 100 mg twice a day doxycycline for a tick bite rash. I rarely take any medication. The first week I just had mild side affects. Late in the second week I started to notice that I was becoming increasing anxious for no apparent reason. Even after hard exercise the anxiety seemed to be persistent as if an impending panic attack. Yet, I had no external reason to explain the anxiety.
After two additional days the anxiety seemed to keep ramping up and I began to get very dizzy when I moved suddenly or bent down to pick up items from the floor. The pressure behind my eyes also feel like it was increasing. I was afraid my blood pressure was spiking but in actuality it was probably either cranial pressure or simply an fight or flight anxiety response. I also experience some pretty vivid dreams.
I finally searched online and found no official symptom of anxiety for doxycycline but found people complaining about it unofficially. I spoke with my pharmacist who also said she had no listing of anxiety as a known symptom for the drug. She suggested I stop taking it and see if my symptom subside.
It has been 24 hours since my last dose and the anxiety has reduced substantially but not completely. I feel like I have a hang over today but otherwise I do feel an immediate improvement. I am still a little dizzy but not like yesterday.
Like all drugs, you should be very cognizant of how the drug affects your body - even if a physician tells you otherwise because only you can really tell and everyone has different bio-chemistry which reacts in different ways to different drug compounds.

My name is Kayla, I'm 19 and i started taking the pill in January 09. The first couple of month were cool, besides your usual bloating and i may have also put on 10lbs but i thought that was usual since i was just recently diagnosed with pcos. (polycystic ovarion syndrome) After about the third month I noticed that i gained about 20lbs and i was very moody and emotional. I just had the urge to cry for no apparent reason. And any one that knows me knows that i am not an emotional person. I stopped taking the pill around april 09. and just recently started yaz this month (07/09) ive only been taking it for a few days so we'll see what happens. But please understand that medicine effects each person differently. this is just how it affected me.

My name is Katie, I am 31 years old. I have been suffering with what doctors call Chronic Idiopathic urticaria for 16 years now. I was prescribed Zyrtec 14 years ago and remained hive free until I had my first son. After a complicated pregnancy and emergency delivery the hives returned full force. The doctor prescribed Singulair in addition to the Zyrtec.
The hives went away; however, I have so many other problems now. I have been seeing a specialist thinking I have lupus or some other disorder, but all my tests are normal. It wasn't until I had my singulair refilled yesterday that I realized instead of symptoms, what I am experiencing may be side effects.
-- I have gained 60 lbs.
-- I have horrible headaches almost daily
-- I am so tired that when I am not working it is impossible to even make myself leave the house
-- I have taken myself to the hospital 3 times thinking I was having a heart attack and told I suffer from acid reflux
-- I have so much pain in my legs/feet/back that I can hardly walk
-- My hands and feet like to go numb for no apparent reason
-- I am always anxious & moody.
-- Can't sleep
-- Clearly I am not myself. Lately, I have felt the quality of life I am leading is horrible.
Wouldn't it be something that I have spent all this time & money trying to figure out what else is wrong with me when it is the medicine I thought was keeping me well really making me sick. Why do the finest doctors not realize when your symptoms are actually side effects?
I am pretty out raged at this point. I would take myself off this medication today if only I knew how to control the edema.

I am a 53 yr. old woman who had aortic Valve replacement surgery in April 2007. I had a St. Jude valve put in and have been on Warfarin ever since. I usually go for a couple months with a steady INR and then, for no apparent reason, it goes out of whack and I have to adjust the level (with repeated doctor visits) to smooth things out. I have gained 20 lbs since my surgery, and cannot lose it, no matter what I do! I ride an exercise bike an hour a day, or walk a 3 mile route. NOTHING helps. I have recently said that if I had it to do all over again, I would choose a Bovine valve (even with the knowledge that surgery would probably have to be repeated later in life) just to be able to avoid the side effects of Warfarin. I have also experienced light-headedness, left sided chest pain, fatigue, coarse thinning hair, but by far, the worst is the weight gain!!

This medication is deadly! I was prescribed 100mg twice a day for 2 weeks for a supposed pelvic infection (don't know yet if that's actually what I have - personally I don't think so). I took it for 6 and a half days (equals 13 pills) and when I found this website and read people's experiences I immediately quit. I experienced some mild nausea the first few days but didn't relate it to the Doxycycline. Then I noticed I was having more bowel movements than normal (5 in one day). I thought maybe I was eating too much fiber as I had increased my intact recently. Then on the 6th evening everything fell apart. I was panicking for no apparent reason; it was just washing over me in waves. My heart was racing and felt like it was going to pound right out of my chest. I barely slept that night because every time I drifted off I startled awake with my heart racing. My body felt weird but I don't know how to explain it; my feet were tingly. The next morning I got hit with diarrhea (I'm usually constipated). Then that whole day I was sobbing on and off throughout the day. I felt like I had hit rock bottom. I wanted to die but was trying to fight these thoughts. I thought I was going to go crazy and start screaming. That was yesterday. I did not take my evening dose then and today have not taken my morning dose and will never take it again. I managed to sleep during the night although my whole body was super tense. Today I am doing better already but am very nauseous. My stomach & back hurt a bit but I am not sure if it is because of the Doxycycline or not, because I have been having a lot of health problems lately. Looking back on the last week, I can see the other side effects I was having which included being really cold (which is totally unlike me and it's summer), occasional ringing in my ears, burning in my abdomen, mild headaches, dry lips, trembling, my face feels hot...I can't remember everything. The panic & depression was the worst. Don't take anti-anxiety meds or antidepressants to combat this. I have been on them and they make things worse -- withdrawal can take months and is hell-like. Just get off the Doxycycline.

I took Loestrin 24 for 5 months before I saw any side effects. I’ve always been a cheerful, healthy person. I’m healthy. I run track for my college. Everything was going great until for some reason I just didn’t want to see anyone anymore. I was constantly tired and lazy. My sexual drive became zero and I would fight with my boyfriend for no apparent reason. It was terrifying. Almost two weeks ago, I had a panic attack for the first time in my life. I thought I was having a heart attack. My left arm, chest, and back hurt. I couldn’t sleep. I had heartburn. So, I decided to go home and talk to my parents who comforted me. They also saw a change in my personality. My mother and I wouldn’t argue anymore. She would just say something and I would cry. I was depressed and kept on having anxiety attacks. At first I thought it was from caffeine but when the symptoms still persisted, I looked toward the birth control. I completely stopped it last Wednesday. Now, everyday is an improvement. I am much happier than I was. I felt a difference around 2 days after stopping the pill. Never take this pill. It’s terrible and no one should feel the way I have in these past two weeks.

Hello Ladies!
I had my Mirena put in on 6/2008 after giving birth to my second kid on March 2008. Since then I was diagnosed with post-partum depression. Which came as a surprise to me since I didn't get this with my first baby. Doctors do say all pregnancies are different, therefor I figured my doctor was right. FOR A REASON HE'S A DOCTOR! But then I started getting severe head-aches, I have lost most of my hair, mood swings (which are the worst) and this stiffness on my upper back that won't go away even with 10 Excedrins. I have tried everything to get ride of this pain but everything is just temporary. I have had a dozen anxiety attacks. Like many of you ladies out there I blamed my job for stress, my husband for mood swings, and my kids for headaches. I had suicidal thoughts for no apparent reason. My life is great. No money problems, my husband and I have been together for 5 years and I have a great paying job but I am still not happy and I am on depression pills. I also had memory lost and I am only 26 years old. I was uninterested in hanging out with friends, having drinks, talking to anyone or going out at all. last but not least I have been wearing prescription glasses for a whole year straight because my sight is foggy. THAT' IS NOT A COINCIDENCE! After reading your comments, I have decided to have this monster taken out. I had to beg my doctor to do it since he insisted I was wrong about the mirena and that I am only depressed. Well, I know my body better then anyone else and I know for a fact it was THE MONSTER making me feel like this. I finally had it removed today and I already feel a little better. I am getting cramps but nothing major. I forgot to tell you I also gained 15 pounds out of nowhere because I eat like I did before my pregnancy and after dieting and exercising I couldn't loose the weight. I am hoping this will help you all and I will post my post-mirena symptoms in 2 weeks.

Wow am glad I read this when I did, have only had nuvaring in for 5 days but already noticed side effects which made me investigate. I found all these reports and took it out. Felt the burning sensation explained during sex, which made me not really want to have sex. Was definitely feeling more emotional than normal, on the verge of tears a few times for not a valid reason. Got really irritable with my boyfriend for no apparent reason. Felt anxiety driving home today as if I might crash. Thats about it but i realized there could have been a lot more to come had I not found this website, glad I found out when I did! Thanks everyone

On less than a week of Medrol Dosepak 4mg, swollen glands under jaw/chin area, neck, back and sides pain (fluid retention). Did not finish dose pac (left 3 or 4 tabs without taking). Increased appetite!!!, weight gain of 6-7 lbs! (in less than a week), dull headaches, increasing to a migraine even after not taking them for 3-5 days! Depression, tears flow out for no apparent reason at all. If any natural alternative med did a quarter of what this one does, the FDA would be shutting them down gestapo style in no time.

IF YOU FEEL/EXPERIENCE ANYTHING ABNORMAL FOR YOU OR DO NOT FEEL QUITE YOURSELF SEE YOUR G.P./NURSE AND SERIOUSLY CONSIDER GETTING THE MIRENA COIL REMOVED
This medication may be suitable for some people but if you experience any of the following, I urge you please, please please, 'demand' that you want the Mirena removed. My symptoms were noticeably worse around my time of ovulation. I've also found out that people previously treated for/suffering from depression should not be prescribed this medication. (I've been on Prozac in the past). I had it fitted in Aug 2007 to combat very heavy periods and severe PMT at the recommendation of my G.P.and had it removed Sept 2008. Symptoms I experienced :-
Dry/furry mouth
Headaches (over time these became migraines)
No concentration
Poor memory
Lethargy (constantly tired and drained)
Smelly discharge (still noticeable straight after washing)
Very heavy legs
Numbness in my legs
Joint pain and clicking (mainly in my shoulders and knees)
Developed facial hair (mainly under chin and jawline)
Hair loss
Weight gain around my stomach (without increasing my food intake)
Feeling constantly bloated.
Spotting randomly for duration of Mirena being fitted. (Brown spotting)
Panic Attacks ( awoken in the middle of the night with them) escalating to the following:-
Palpitations (for no apparent reason)
Clammy/sweating palms and feet
Aggitation ( during an episode if someone was talking to me I wanted to really yell at them 'Just shut the **** up! You're doing my head in!)
Feelings of madness (actually wanted to run away from my own mind)
Pins and needles/Tingling in my hands and feet
Electric shock like surges going through my body (my nerve endings were obviously suffering)
Muscle tremours/shaking (mainly arms and legs)
Eyes became extremely light sensitive
Heightened awareness of sound
Insomnia
Terrible nightmares
Depression
Feelings of detachment from the real world.
Visual disturbances
Episodes of blurred vision
These symptoms did not appear straight away but appeared gradually and with more veangance the longer I had the coil. The more concerning episodes I experienced happened after about 3 months and very erratically. I could not predict when or what time of day I was going to have an episode or pinpoint any reason for bringing on an attack. I had no control over the effects, was absolutely petrified when I experienced a panic attack and just had to ride it out.
All my G.P. did was prescribe me anti-depressants to which I reacted badly. Blood tests also failed to show anything abnormal.
I even tried herbal medicines as an alternative and experienced similar reactions to the prescription drugs. I've now become very pill-phobic and would rather ride out and get over symptoms myself. Paracetamol & Ibuprofen being the only medicine I trust to take now. I had a horrendous year and everyone suffered. Not only my family, but I was signed off of work for 3 months. It was a very worrying time for my husband and my children, who all had to keep an eye on me and witness the effects of my symptoms. On looking back now, I don't know how I managed to function at all and even do my job. Most of the time my energies were spent concentrating on trying to appear normal and held-together to the outside world.
Although I feel 100% better in myself, I noticeably experience more migraines and headaches than I ever did in the past, along with palpitations, usually during my week before. Two days before it I often really feeI like I'm losing the plot! I also really bloat up now a week before my period, feel sick and have a feeling of being ' very full', so am hungry but don't really want to eat. One of my big toe-nails has gone black over the past few months and not through injury. This has just been sent away for analysis. The one on the other foot is raised/ridged/thick/yellow, but normal growth has resumed half-way up now, which I feel co-incides with the state of my health on having Mirena removed. The nurse I saw recently explained that it is true that nails and hair show the history of our health so, for me, this would seem true.
I wish I'd been made fully aware of all possible side-effects of this medication and am now actually concerned that the effects I've suffered may have left some permanent damage.
In spite of all this, it's so good to be me.

Mirena was my worst nightmare; it make me feel with extreme fatigue, and I experienced an increment on my anxiety, I begin to feel scary for everything with no apparent reason, I just cry for almost everything, and it really scare me, oh yes! how scaring was to feel like this =C ; with no mood for sex, what a birth control!! Thanks GOD, this site exist, because it was after read all your experiences, that I realize that everything was due to Mirena. It still affects me like a couple of weeks later I took it off. Have a great day girls! =D

I'm also on Doxycycline Hyclate, 100 MG, twice daily. I've had slight mood swings, and lately I've been worrying about silly things for no apparent reason. Everytime I felt different body changes that normally didn't occur, I would think something is wrong with me when such thoughts were riduclous, especially since I'm 22 and extremely healthy. But I've also been having really weird lower abdomen pressure. It doesn't necessarily hurt, but it's quite annoying. Has anybody else had similar symptoms like this?
Ah, another thing, be careful not to get into the habit of not taking the full dosage of antibiotics prescribed. If you're taking it for an infection and you cease taking it prematurely, the organisms will develop a resistance to it and then it will be more difficult to get rid of.
Also, thanks for the courage to post your concerns. I wasn't aware that this antibiotic could cause such emotional and pshychological trouble! Now I feel a lot better about my own symptoms!

35, male, athletic: i took 3x 500mg and immediately got sore joints and severe flu-like symptoms. i was completely bedridden, loss of balance, sore from head to toe, major bloating and cramping... MISERABLE. this was near the beginning of November. while most side effects have lessened, i have had tendon issues as recently as last week. basically, any "strenuous" exertion will injure the tendons, although i haven't ruptured anything yet. bottoms of feet were sore for a couple weeks for no apparent reason. having trouble remembering words, finishing sentences, etc... digestion seems to be "off", and there is a bitter taste in my mouth that has been there since the beginning. also, "phantom itch" deep in both ears that comes and goes, and earwax production seems to have ceased... weird. oh, and D-R-Y eyes, nose and mouth upon waking. very dry skin as well. it did kill the infection though. i guess i'll be back to normal again someday. i hope.

I had the Mirena put in October of 06 and had it removed in October of 08. During the time that I had it, I didn't get a period, which I expected but I was really hormonal. It was like I would get angry or upset for no apparent reason. It was ruining my relationship, and I would also get terrible headaches, no sex drive, and I started getting cysts in the groin area. The doctor told me it had nothing to do with the Mirena, but I believe it did. Since I had it removed I don't get so bent out of shape so easily, no more headaches, but I do still get the cysts, but just prior to my period every month. Also, we have been trying to get pregnant again and it just isn't happening. I never had a problem with my first two kids, and now I just cant seem to make it happen. I would not recommend that horrible IUD for anyone. It caused nothing but problems for me.
