I am calling to make an appointment to have my Mirena removed as I type this post. I've had bleeding off and on - mostly on- since inserting in late June, but my main issue is incredible mood swings. Feelings of being out of control, depression and anxiety. My husband pegged it. He noticed that I had not been so witchy before I got my mirena. To make things worse, once I get upset, I can't control it. It is almost like I am possessed. Just two short months ago, I was nothing like this. It is amazing what a different person I've become and I can't wait to get back to my old self!!!!

I can also be added to the list of those who have had stomach cramps and constant discharge.

I had been on Yasmin for a couple years then became pregnant. After the baby, my obgyn suggested taking Yaz b/c he said there were less side-effects. So, I began taking it and with in a few weeks time I had began fainting at work, good thing I am an R.N. in the E.R. and was having irregular heart rhythms. I was told I had very low Potassium and began taking K + supplements. Although, no one made the connection to the birth control. I kept telling different doctors that the only new change was that I had begun taking Yaz. They just kept saying I was stressed and my body was still adjusting from a very difficult pregnancy, which was true. So after resuming with Yaz I again started to feel lethargic, muscle spasms, headache and palpitations, I finally have an appointment with my ob and can't wait to switch pills!!!! Yaz is not what is cracked up to be........

I have had mirena since Mar 07 and I also have pain during intercourse, sharp pains in my pelvic area, my face started breaking out (never had ache) and horrible discharge gummy and clear. Has anyone else experienced the discharge. It is so uncomfortable for me I do not want to have intercourse with my husband of 6 years. I think I will have this removed on my 8/25 appointment. Any advice in regards to the discharge would be great. Thanks!

I put my mirena last June. For a few weeks I was fine with it, but as soon as the first period came all my problems started!! I've been having bad headaches, irregular bleeding, very long periods ( 10-12 days). Those headaches seem to be an every day thing for me now, to the point I thought that I might have something really serious!!! I want to go back and take it out. I wish I had seen that forum before!!

I am 18 years old and was considering getting the gardasil shot and even had an appointment set for today. However, after reading about all these side effects, i immediately canceled the appointment and plan to not get this shot unless it is restudied and perfected. My heart goes out to all of you suffering from side effects of gardasil. I was shocked to see how many of you said that the doctors told you "to not worry about it" or immediately said "gardasil was not connected." It is eerie and terrifying that the caretakers of this time are so quick to brush off the serious possibility of a new glorified vaccine not being as miraculous as advertised. I hope your situations improve. Please post on this website

http://www.fda.gov/opacom/backgrounders/problem.html

so the FDA will investigate.

Just letting you all know, ( i posted two or three days ago) i had my mirena removed yesterday after nearly a year with it in, and I SWEAR i felt better INSTANTLY. the cramps ive had for three months straight non stop are gone!! as soon as she took it out the cramps stopped, i felt like i could breath again. And removal was not painful what so ever, i didn't even feel it. she had to tell me it was out. Hopefully i'll lose the extra weight i gained and the acne will go away along with every other side effect ive had. i never associated all of my troubles with the Mirena...but now i know! I think women need to be better informed about this device... i honestly thought about walking into the doctors office yesterday with every complaint on this site printed out and telling my gyno she should hand THESE out with their brochures telling women how wonderful it is. I didn't though, but i did try to tell her about everything i had experienced and i pretty much felt like she didn't even want to hear it. I will keep posting on this site through the next couple months to let everyone know how i'm doing. I honestly feel like if you've had mirena in for six months and it isn't working you should get it removed immediately and don't let your doctor try and convince you otherwise like mine did. WOMEN listen to your bodies!!! you know when something isn't right... forget what the doctors say and do what makes you feel comfortable happy and healthy.

I was on it for a couple of years. What good is not having a period if you have no real sex drive? Also, I felt that my personality was very suppressed and dull. I am usually an upbeat and outgoing person--it was like I had blinders over my eyes constantly. When I got off of it, I instantly felt better and more alive! I switched to Loestrin24 Fe--then came the side effects!!! (See Loestrin Side Effects) It was as if switching from Seasonale to Loestrin put me in peri-menopause--I'm 37. I had 6 of the 8 symptoms for two months. now, it has been 4 months and still no period. Apparently missing your period after going off of the Seasonale is quite normal. My Dr.'s office was not worried for the first couple of months. I now have an appointment on Monday.

I was prescribed a 6 day pack of 4mg Methylprednisolone (Medrol) at the ER for an allergic reaction I was having to a gel that I used on my sking. The Medrol worked great at stopping the allergic reaction. My swelling, pain, and rash began to rapidly clear up. Unfortunately I began to have many side effects. On day 5 I was unable to get out of bed I was so tired and dizzy. I had a headache and mental confusion and unclear thinking. I called my primary care provider on a Sunday to ask if it is okay to stop taking the steroid. She said it was and that it was unlikely the medrol was causing my symptoms. She told me I had a virus. I told her the symptoms I was having were listed as side effects on the drug info sheet but she did not believe me. IA few days later I made an appointment to see a doctor, not the same one who took my phone call. This doctor said all of my symptoms were from the Medrol. She knew because of personal experience she saw in her mother who was also taking steroids. She told me medrol can cause a manic response or a depressive, the latter is what I was having. As part of my exam she wanted me to have blood work but said I should wait at least 2 weeks to allow the drug to get out of my system. It is now 19 days since my appointment and I am still having side effects: nausea, complete lack of appetite, dizzy, and tired all the time. I put a call in to my doctor today and am waiting to hear back. I am sorry that I took this medication, will never take again. How long will it take for this med to get completely out of my system so that I feel normal again?
A friend told me her mother had a manic episode on steroids. When I was younger I took steroids for a brief period and had much milder side effects.

I am 40 years old with Osteopenia and was prescribed Fosamax with Vitamin D and have been taking for 15 months. I would say after after a year I noticed my voice not as strong when I would so sing. My voice lately got very hoarse and I developed some acid reflux symptoms. I made an appointment to a throat specialist and right away told him I was on this medicine and felt that it was a side effect and he said it definitely was. Needless to say I am not taking it any longer. I will take over the counter Calcium and Vitamin D pills and go from there. If this helps anyone it was worth posting.

I HAVE HAD THE MIRENA IUD FOR 11 MONTHS. I HAVE GAINED 11 LBS OF UNWANTED WEIGHT. I CONSTANTLY HAVE ABDOMINAL PAIN, BLOATING, AND DISCOMFORT. MY PANTS (EVEN THE LARGER SIZE) CAUSE A STRANGLING PRESSURE AROUND MY WAIST LINE. I OFTEN HAVE PAIN WITH INTERCOURSE. MY MENSTRUAL CYCLE HAS DECREASED BUT THE PMS SYMPTOMS HAVE NOT. I ALREADY HAD A PROBLEM WITH OVARIAN CYST AND THEY HAVE NOT DECREASED. I OFTEN HAVE STRIKING PAIN IN THE LOWER ABDOMINAL AREA AND IN MY PELVIC AREA. I HAVE MIGRAINES HEADACHES, BUT ALSO SOMETHING I HAD PRIOR TO IUD. I ALSO HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING A LOT OF CONSTIPATION PROBLEMS, UNKNOWN IF RELATED TO THE IUD OR THE MULTIPLE CYST. MY ENERGY LEVEL IS LOW AND PRIOR TO IMPLANT I WAS OFTEN HYPERACTIVE. ONE BENEFIT IS THAT SINCE MY ENERGY LEVEL AS DECREASED I NO LONGER HAVE INSOMNIA, SOMETHING I HAVE HAD FOR YEARS. I WOULD RATHER BE UP ALL NIGHT, THEN DEPRESSED AND UNCOMFORTABLE EVERYDAY.

I HAD HOPED SOME OF THESE SYMPTOMS WOULD SUBSIDE TO NO AVAIL. I CANNOT LIVE WITH THE INCREASED WEIGHT, DAILY CRAMPS, AND ABDOMINAL PROBLEMS. IF THIS IS A RESULT OF THE MIRENA IUD THEN IT IS TIME TO HAVE IT REMOVED. I WAS LOOKING AT THIS DEVICE TO HELP DECREASE FEMALE COMPLICATIONS I WAS ALREADY EXPERIENCING AND AS I HAVE READ IN THE OTHER POSTED COMMENTS THE IUD HAS ONLY INCREASED AND CREATED MORE SYMPTOMS FOR ME. I ONLY WISH I WOULD HAVE FOUND THIS SITE A YEAR AGO BEFORE THE IMPLANT. I WILL BE CALLING MY OBGYN TODAY FOR AN APPOINTMENT. THANKS FOR THE INSIGHT.

Reason 1151 to run away fast from IUD's. I had surgery yesterday to have a Mirena removed. I thought it would be an easy procedure and was already annoyed that I had to go that far. I am waking out of anesthesia and the OB tells me that the IUD had migrated to my abdomen so they removed it with a laproscope. Apparently it perforated my uterus.

But, How strange I am ALREADY feeling better. Here's what is gone:

Muscle aches around my hips
Extreme tiredness

I will keep you updated - and thanks for your support. You can see my other posts to read the whole story.

I've had this thing (mirena) in me for almost 5 weeks now, and have yet to stop bleeding. I too, am always tired, moody, and hungry. I thought I was crazy when I thought I could feel it in there. Now that I know others have experienced all this I feel a little better. Sad thing is, I no longer have insurance. I'm stuck with it unless I wanna pay way too much to get it out. Anyone else bled this long? I bled in the beginning, Spotted for 3.5 weeks, and now it's a full blown period again. Does it ever stop?

I was put on synthroid a year ago, due to a tsh level of 87. I pretty much felt better right away after taking it. First I took 50mcg and then it was upped to 100mcg. Everything went well until I had my latest tsh test. The level was going up again (tsh 5.4) so the doctor decided to put me on 125mcg. After about a week I began feeling like crap. Slugglishness, tiredness, muscle pain, joint pain, and it became progressively worse. I have an appointment coming up thank god. In the mean time I read 3 books on thyroid and it was mentioned that most people don't benefit from just taking T4 (ie. synthroid), despite the fact that the pharmac. and some docs say that body breaks t4 down into t3.
Some people's body cannot successfully break it down enough, some are cellular resistant to thyroid hormones, and those people absolutely need t3 in order to not develop Hypometablolism. The cell need the T3 to function. But unfortunately one can be hypo and still have good TSH levels, because this particular test only tests if there is enough T4 in the body.
Unfortunately, it's so hard to explain that to mainstream doctors.
One doctor I read about said it right: Don't just treat the test results but also the bodily symptoms, for everybody is different anyways. Just like our finger prints are unique, so is our hormonal metabolism.
I'm going to try to talk to my doc about this, but if he doesn't listen I will look for another doc until I found one that will. Good luck to all in this hormone jungle.

I had the Mirena inserted in May of 2008. I had the normal bleeding and horrible pains after insertion. Had to go to the hospital because the pain was so bad. Now, 3 months later I have been dealing with extreme fatigue, some bloating, headaches, horrible mood swings, and extremely bad backaches. I figured that the backaches were from past issues (a wreck, pregnancy, epidural, and lifting a 30 lb baby everyday), but I think now it's because of Mirena. My back pain has been the worst part of this thing. I'm only 20 years old and when I wake up in the morning, I can't even bend over to pick something up without wincing in pain. Tonight I have been having bad stomach cramps. It feels like period cramps, with no sign of bleeding.

I have a friend who had the Mirena for about 14 months. She had to have it removed about a month ago because it got infected. She was in the hospital for 2 days and out of work for a week. They couldn't find any reason for the infection. She is now on about 9 medications including Percecet for pain.

I'm now considering having it taken out. I noticed a few weeks ago that I was always tired and I can't seem to get enough sleep. I just realized that it may be due to the Mirena. I'm going to make me an appointment with the OB/GYN to discuss the issue. Thank you all for informing me of these problems.

Oh, and my doctor never gave me a pamphlet when I had it inserted.

Jackie

I do not feel horrible but Im starting to experience a sort of constipation. I'll go a day and a half struggling to produce a bowel movement. Then finally I get a satisfying result. It's a struggle though. I push and push and push. I've been on 50 mgs for three months. I have to refill today. I will mention this to pharmacist. My appointment is not till the end of September.

I have had mine for over a year now. I initially never thought any of these side effects were related to this device. After gaining weight when I have been exercising and eating the same (sometimes one pound per day), bloating, decreased libido, swollen legs (like when I was pregnant), nausea, and having this horrible neck/shoulder muscle ache (to name the biggest ones), I talked with my OB about this being the cause. She pretty much dismissed it as having anything to do with this. Then, after becoming so frustrated about the weight gain, I decide to research this little thing and I find this!! Oh my goodness. I have scheduled an appointment to remove this tomorrow. It also bothers me not to have a period. I feel like it has been building up for over a year and that is why my stomach is so pregnant like!! I think it works great for some women, and I had a fabulous experience for the first 8 months about. I just think it is important for women to pay attention to their bodies and just because a professional disagrees, does not mean they are correct.

i had the first shot in May of 08 i don't remember having any symptoms then but after my second shot in July I have experienced nausea, vomiting and weight loss. the weight loss is probably due to the fact that almost everything i eat i can not hold down or finish because i am constantly gagging and sometimes leads to vomiting. i am as of today 106lbs 5'5"and i am 23 yrs old. i haven't weighed this much since elementary/middle school. I WILL NOT RECOMMEND GARDASIL TO ANYONE AND I HAVE ALREADY CANCELED MY APPOINTMENT FOR THE 3RD SHOT.

I was prescribed Levaquin by my Dr. for a sinus infection. There were 10 pills and I was to take one a day. No one mentioned any of the side effects or drug interactions except to not take antacids within 2 hours of taking the meds. During the coarse of me taking the medication I began having substernal chest pains which I thought was just horrible heart burn, but it got so bad that I woke up screaming multiple nights from the pain. I also started having pain in my ankles, legs and especially my knees. The pain in my knees gets so bad that I think my knee caps are going to shatter when I walk especially when going down the stairs. I didn't know any of the drug interactions and my father in law who is a physical therapist has always advised me to take ibuprofen for muscle and joint pain so that's what I did, but little did I know that was only increasing the effects on my central nervous system. I am also experiencing bouts of nausea, confusion, light headedness, difficulty sleeping, anxiety and I actually thought I was having a mental breakdown.. I was freaking out on my husband and very depressed even having suicidal thoughts. It wasn't until my mother randomly mentioned that she had heard about the FDA issuing the Black Box warning that I connected the dots and had already finished the meds. I called my doctor's office right away and was told that the symptoms I am having are not side effects of the medicine. Maybe the Dr. doesn't listen to the news either.

Hi,

The reason for me taking Femcon is a little different
from the reasons I've read on this website. My OBGYN prescribed them to me because I was experiencing some menopause symptoms. I had skipped a period and the following month it lasted more tha 15 days at an extremely heavy flow. I had been taking it for about 4 days and was just horrible.
I felt very tired, had a lot af anxiety, experienced
an anxiety attack which was just awful, I thought
I was going to die. My mouth was extremely dry and was very depressed, I would have rapid heart palpitations. The way I was instructed to take this pills was for the first 3 days take 4 at a time, then for the next three days take 3 at a time, then 2 and then 1.
I would rather put up with the heavy flow than take
this pills. I'm 48 years old extremely healthy and for the first time in my life I thought I was going to die. I quit after the first day of being on the
3 pill session. I have an appointment with my OBGYN on Monday, I will let him know that I will not take a pill that makes me feel the way I felt with this pill.

Hello All, My Levaquin nightmare began on June 18th, 2008. The side effects I had were so unbelievable, most of you, if not all of you will believe this. I had severe night sweats which would transfer over to a extreme cold chills, which would allow me to sweat like crazy. Bathed in Sweat. I thought there were small needles all around me and poking me everywhere. My feet, toes, knees and buttocks tingled like there was no tomorrow (and still are to this day). When and how can I make these side effects go away. I'm sick of them. I no longer have the night sweats or the bitter chills, I'm now totally aware of want is going on around me, while taking the med and several days after I couldn't even tell you my name. The bridge of my nose, and running across to my ears tingled like crazy and my ears rang all the time, and they still ring once in a while still. I need to know when this feeling of tingling in my hands, feet, knees, legs and humming in my ears will go a way. Help! I think this drug needs to taken off the market. I took a total of 17 pills. My first scripted was for 15 days and by not knowing any better less then a week later and another doctors appointment, and one more script, which I filled. I took two pills from that bottle. My husband called the doctor and she told him this wasn't normal. She told him that I was to stop the med asap, which I did and I'm still having these awful tingling. If anyone, anyone has any suggestion of how to get those med out of my system I would certainly appreciate it. God Bless each and every one of you. May you all find relief.

I was on birth control pills for about 12 years when I decided to stop taking them about three months ago. For the past two weeks I have been experiencing some hair loss so I made an appointment w/my MD and she said that hair loss can occur when stopping hormones and she suggested Nuvaring. I didn't even have the thing in for 24 hours before I took it out! My head hurt so bad I thought I was going to die! I also got extremely queasy and sensitive to the smell of food so much that I couldn't be around my coworkers heating up their lunch. I had to give a presentation and felt the whole time that I might throw up in front of everyone. I also became extremely irritable and was ugly to a patient I saw that day and yelled at my husband for no good reason. My head felt like it was in an awful fog and I felt like I couldn't think clearly. I never experienced anything like that on BCP's. I will NEVER try Nuvaring again. It was awful. I'd rather keep losing my hair and go bald then take Nuvaring!

Three days into the ultram 200mg, once a day, I experienced a "tonic clonic seizure" what is formally known as a grand mal seizure.

From what my husband tells me it was so severe that he had to call the paramedics. I don't remember the entire seizure at all. I faintly remember seeing 4 heads coming to me down the hallway, and that was all I remember. John, my husband told me that was the paramedics and the fire department. Since they did not see the seizure taking place I was not taken to the emergency room or hospital.

I do remember laying on the bed for 4 days after the seizure unable to move, eat or drink. I was completely exhausted. I've a follow up appointment with my primary care physician on Tuesday, as in required by law to be seen and I believe I may have to sign a paper requiring me not to drive for the next 6 months.

I'm worried to say the least. I'd never had a seizure before in my life and I'm 47 years old now. I'm still experiencing nausea, inability to eat...even though its been just 2 weeks since the seizure.

I have been going through depression and extreme exhaustion and not wanting to be alone in a room since the seizure. The abdominal pains feel almost like when a menstrual period will start, severe enough to make one bend over double and an aching inside as well. Having had a hysterectomy over 7 years ago, I know that is not the issue.

hi,daer777 i like to know the natural product that lower cholesterol.also since you stop the medication any changes or not if you don't mind?I took my father to many neurologist and they test many Parkinson medication and my father did not respond to any medication but he got worsed, yesterday he had another appointment to another neurologist he said if it is not Parkinson disease then must be genetic disorder witch is we never had in our family history and also doctor noticed that many my patient who are using lipitor responding very well with Parkinson medication ,and when i said about lipitor he got mad on me and very rudely said medication never doing this and don't blame medication,so every doctor that i saw never believed us that lipitor or ezetrol (zetia)is that cause.also doctor said if it is the medication then he must be symptom free by now ,he quit ezetrol just three months ago and lipitor 2 years ago.
