WOW, I am so happy to find this site. I am a 56 yr old female. I too am on Toprol. I was on 75 mg 2 x's a day for HPB and mitral valve prolapse pain. Then yesterday the Dr. increased my dose to 100 mg 2x's a day .Today my ankles and feet blew up like balloons. I have been having profuse sweating and was cold and clammy for the past year and no Dr could tell me why!! NO sex drive , depression, sleep apnea, severe insomnia, brain fog, short term memory issues, moody, irritable, my husband has threatened to leave me. NO appetite!! Floaters in my eyes started a few months ago, I have so many symptoms that I have read in all your posts. No quality of life for the past year. I have felt like I was losing my mind, gained 35 lbs in past 2 years without changing my eating habits. I gained the weight after I had lost 50 lbs. Been on Toprol about 2 1/2 years ( I think ) Every symptom I have experienced I have read in your posts!! I have type 2 diabetes and am on glucophage, I also take 10 other scripts. I have fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue, RSD in my left arm, muscle pain and joint pain. Pain in my right upper qaudrant. Nausea/ some vomiting, NO ENERGY, Loss of interest in most of life. So now after reading all your posts I have to ask myself, are all my symptoms linked to the Toprol and not syndromes or illnesses? I am calling my doctor in the morning and getting off this med!! They will just have to put me on something else!!!
So how do I post to receive replies?

61 year old female, on Lipitor 2002-2005 10 mgs a day. Doc increased dose 2006-current to 20 mgs a day. No muscle problems BUT hair has thinned out dramatically! Doc called today and reduced dose back to 10 mgs for 6 weeks as liver enzymes up with tests last week. Also have tingling in feet. Haven't read all the posts here yet as just found site today but anyone else losing hair and taking drug? If you had hair loss and quit the drug, did your hair come back? If your liver tests were higher and you cut back on the dose, did your numbers go down?

What a wonderful site.. thanks for all of you and your stories. I too was a Lipitor user ... 20mgs/day for at least 6 years. I didn't notice any problems until last summer. I couldn't grip a golf club so I didn't play all summer. My doc told me it was arthritis. Strange, no history and never had any problems til then. As the months went on, things got worse. Burning in my upper left arm muscle, so intense it would cause me to have to sit down. Heart racing, pain in back, shoulder and jaw, I thought I was having a heart attack. Started reading about Lipitor and told doctor I wanted off. Of course he said no way and he did an MRI thinking it was skeletal. He sent me to a neurologist, who immediately told me I have statin myopathy. Cause...Lipitor!!! Amazing he admits this, also told me his own doc prescribed it for him and he will not take it because he sees too many patients with these side effects. I am liking him and his honesty. I have been off Lipitor for 2 weeks now. Hands are much better but muscle weakness and burning and sometimes tremors persist but I am optimistic that this may take time but I will recover.

And the Saga of Prednisone continues:
After a few weeks of 10mg per day (5mg AM 5mg PM) I am now down to 7.5 mg per day (last 3 days). The 10 mg allowed a lot of the side effects to start to fade: weight is steady or decreasing. I only gained about 5 lbs but that is now down to 1 or 2. I'm working out so I'm adding muscle as well as losing fat so I dont expect massive weight loss. (For instance .. I added an inch to the circumference of my upper arm.. muscle..not fat !) The irrationality toward food (cleanup in aisle 5 has new meaning.. like cleaning one's plate !)
Yes, Im hairier ! for a guy it's in all the right places. Not only hasn't that gone away.. it's hairier still !
My face is almost back to it's gaunt thin self :) SOME of the buffalo hump has gone away and my neck has thinned a bit - so no double chin anymore - just in the last two weeks.
Never had insomnia.. never had depression (wasn't thrilled with the side effects but thats a rational reaction.. not depression) never had moodiness. Acne is getting better. I STILL RECOMMEND PHISOHEX and a LOOFAH.
My belly is still distended but then I had a lot of surgery so it could be either or both. Exercise has helped (jogging and situps) and Im a tad fatigued but getting better.
Certainly thats not all of the side effects but the statement 1 month for every week of use seems true.. and the effects go away slower than they arrived.. ]
BUT THEY DO GO AWAY.
The more permanent effects (stretch marks etc) may be permanent.. try vitamin E Aloe etc.. they may help!

I am a 62 year old female, in great shape (or at least I was) until I took 6 doses of Levaquin for a UTI. After the 6th dose, I went to sleep perfectly normal and when I woke up, my arm muscle or tendon located about 2 inches from the shoulder could not move. I immediately knew it was the Levaquin, because my husband took this medicine and could hardly walk due to the achilles tendon soreness and he power walks every day. His tendon did eventually get better so I decided to wait it out, of course, I didn't take any more of the medicine. It is now 2 months later, I am starting physical therapy, and my arm cannot move without pain. It has made me very depressed because it was no unnecessary and is causing me so much difficulty. Why arn't we told these horrible side effects by our doctors before we take this horrible medicine. I urge everyone NOT to take this medication, there are others around, so please don't take the chance I took.

Like many others who take Zocor, I'm experiencing serious shoulder and arm muscle pain.Even when I take Oruvail 200mg, the pain is still there. The pain stays with you as long as you are on the drug. If you stop for a week and continue later, the side effects will disappear

I was on Femcon FE for 6 months just for hormone replacement I have been on BC for 10 years never had the problems like I have with this drug. Severe arm muscle aches but worst of all lower back muscle cramping at night so bad I could barley get out of bed in the morning. I was starting to think I had arthritis, numbness in fingers and arms at night as well as stiffness in my fingers joint pain in my knees very bad. All this was a constant and the back cramping was getting worse with every night. I have stopped taking this drug 1 week ago and already see big improvement in mood, numbness is gone and the back stiffening and cramping has greatly improved, the muscle aches are almost gone Thank god I figured out it was this horrible drug.
