I was just prescribed lisinopril a few weeks ago, for HBP, my pressure was always low but, I recently had a malfunctioned defibrillator change and my BP went very high, so the MD put me on lisinopril. I have been on it for about a month now, but the only symptoms I have been getting is severe fatigue, sleeping a lot and very thirsty. Are some of the symptoms putting on weight, I don't want that, and I did or have not had a bad cough. But sleeping is bad and very tired all the time. Should I ask my MD to change my meds? I did have 2 heart attacks and two by pass surgeries, l4 years ago one in 93 and one in 99. Then my heart weakened and I came down with arrhythmias after passing out. They inserted a pacemaker/def. thanks to medtronic after the pacemaker and def. were recalled I had to get another one, but if this drug is causing everyone a lot of problems I don't want to take it. I do get up a lot during the night (constantly going to the bathroom) due to thirst and am constantly tired I am 51,and came down with this disease (it is a childhood disease and have had it since I was l9), but it is a scary one, heart problems. They never ran in my family. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I am going to get my blood taken on Tuesday to see if this Lisipril is working or not. Thanks for anyone help, I really need it on this new drug. Thank you.

Hi Ladies,
Just to let you know I'm feeling great, 2 months off of Yasmin now. My sex drive continues to improve, my magnesium when last checked was 2.1 (vs 1.7) and the heart palpitations, arrythmias, and chest pressure have disappeared. I still take blood pressure medication, but I know now that with time I will be able to get off of those.
I forgot to mention in my earlier posts that I've gained almost 20 pounds since I got on Yasmin. I now have to try to lose them, hopefully before I end up pregnant (!!!).
I congratulate all of you that have made the decision to get off of yasmin. Remember what my specialist told me a few weeks ago: "DON'T TAKE ORAL CONTRACEPTIVES. FIND ANOTHER MORE NATURAL WAY". Remember he also said that he doesn't let his wife take them.
I know not everyone has a negative reaction, but for those of us who have it is encouraging to know there are doctors out there that support us and believe us. If no one else, we believe you. Stay strong, you will get better.

hi All
Well, the results are back from a blood test an RN took and while I don't have them in front of me, she advised that my potassium is "little bit high". The normal range is 3.6-5.2. i am at 5.7.
so after all I've been reading and the article on Hypokalemia and its risks from yasmin because Yasmin increases potassiium in the blood-I am wondering....??? 6.0 reading is where they recommend an ECG for arrythmias and treatment! And i've been off of Yasmin now for the last 3 months!
I just started a Calcium and Magnesium supplement 1000mg each as I'm convinced the high potassium threw the balance off of these two which regulate heartbeat and rate!!!
Anyone experience high potassium rates? It is one of the greatest risks with Yasmin!

I have a history of arrythmias and was treated with cardiac ablation last year which relieved my tachycardia and pvcs. A few months ago I received a Kenalog injection in my shoulder for impingenent, within a week I noticed my pvcs were more frequent and I was having some mild episodes of rapid heartbeat. Thankfully this only lasted about amonth.

To my fan fare;
"U have to be an idiot to write things like that to people like us who r really suffering because of pred. Obviously u have found the wrong website. Now go find yourself a SHRINK. "
Thank you, your blatent insults obviously indicates superior intelligence and mental stability. Far be it that anyone poses a theoretical question or thought based on their own experiences.......
'So Jules, 5 mg a day for a few weks and you're the expert ?'
Just so you know, I've taken doses as high as 60 mgs a day many times in my life.
My daughter, who was on life support for a month, was given 500 mgs a day. I owe a higher power and the prednisone, my sincere gratitude for her survival.
I never stated that "anyone" has psychosomatic side-effects or "the placebo" effect here. Did anyone bother to notice the ? at the end? Did anyone stop to think that I might be posting a serious question/concern I had?
To those that are suffering from the horrific side-effects and I offended...my sincere apologies. I wasn't trying to dismiss your suffering, only trying to point out the positive side of the drug, and to open some peoples eyes to the reality of "possible" placebo effects.
Where I was coming from:
During my 3rd year in Pre-med, several of us students began suffering from chest pains, arrythmias, perfuse sweating, etc...guess what we were studying at the time?
I could list thousands of studies showing the reality of psychosomatic/placebo effects. I could also post harvard/mayo etc. studies that show the ultimate power of mind and the positive/negative effects that peoples suggestions have on our healing, side-effects and survival.
Posting the horrific side effects of ANY DRUG might offer reassurance that were not alone in our side-effect suffering but it can also have some really negative psychological effects on certain people and ultimately affect their decision in taking it...ie...my mother had penicillian anaphylaxis, and none of us would touch it with a ten foot pole for years.
Some of the posts here are terrifying and I personally feel that people should think about the impact it is/could have on people just beginning drug therapy.
In my opinion, when taking any drug, the bottom line is weighing the risk versus benefit, ...ie...chemo has terrible side-effects, but does the disease it's treating have any less profound effects?????

My 10 year-old grandson has been on Advair 250 for two years. Within six-weeks of starting Advair, he developed warts that will not respond to any type of treatment. There are days he will develop three to four warts in a day. He is also complaining of abdominal pain, ear pain, joint pain in several joints. His appetite is greatly increased leading to weight gain. He has profuse sweats, body odor, nightmares, tachacardia and arrythmias. His lung function has NOT inproved while on Advair. We are weaning him from Advair.

The difference with Yasmin is that it contains a different form of hormone...and the diuretic effect...this is why it is recommended that those taking Yasmin get regular blood work done...the diuretic will deprive your body of sodium..and potassium.....causing heart problems, arrythmias....leg cramping... I wonder how many people are getting their blood work done....Ive been taking Yasmin now for 8 months....the only effect I have noticed is that my sex drive has waned a bit....but virtually all BC pills do that....I dont think it should be banned because some people are having problems with it...its been a pretty decent pill for me so far...everyone reacts differently to medications...so if its not working for you, try something else...

I am an average, somewhat healthy 46-year-old woman who is presently taking 50 mgs. daily of Toprol XL for a heart condition - triple arrythmias. For months I have been feeling lethargic and just generally feeling ill with soreness in my ears and throat, and a daily bout with congestion in the mornings that usually clears up midday each day. It finally progressed to the point of fever, chills, muscle aches and pains and general malaise, and I was prescribed Levaquin 500 1xdaily for a diagnosis sinusitus. (Although it's been a few years since I've experienced an acute attack, I do have a history of sinus trouble) Additionally, my facial complexion had become terribly ruddy, blotched and broken out from the underlying sinus infection....
Well, let me just say, that, on my 8th day of Levaquin, perhaps I have noticed a few muscle aches and pains and weakness, as most persons on this website have claimed, but then, in my 46 years of life I have only been on antibiotics 5-6 times and each time I become weak and with muscle aches and pains. Similarly, when one is recovering from anesthesia after surgery, one feels achey and weak. Hello, your body is being subjected to a man-made synthetic to assist your body to achieve its original goal. This most recent goal of mine with levaquin was to rid my body of a sinus infection that had developed an abscess in the sinus cavity. Well, let me add that I have not been able to breathe as clearly and deeply for months, as I have since I started this medication. My lethargy has gone away, and while I still feel the overall feeling of being on a strong antibiotic, I feel extremely improved. I have not developed a red rash. (Perhaps staying in bed resting, and not going in the sun has helped. I do live in sunny Florida) In fact, my ruddy facial complexion has totally improved! I have not had ear ringing, or hallucinations, or an outer body experience, or any other side effect that seems to be popular on this site. Additionally, I experienced not one heart palpitation or heart arrythmia. I agree with the good doctor who recommended on this site that we all take a look at our health history and our symptoms prior to taking the medication and don't blame every symptom on the medication. I am not one to rush to a doctor when I'm feeling a little under the weather, but let me tell you, when I need something to rid my body of bacteria and infection, I thank God for medicenes like Levaquin and the good Doctors who care to really listen to your symptoms and prescribe what you may need.

a little update. i took 5 mg lisinopril for 3 days, had blood work done on Monday and afterward, took the 4th pill. so the bloodwork reflected only 3 pills of 5 mg each. my potassium level, which right before starting lisinopril, was 3.9- was suddenly 6.4.
-- By propsguy | Reply | (1) replies | Private Message medoctor called Tuesday, told me to stop taking lisinopril, come in for an EKG and have more blood work done on Thursday, 3 days after stopping
he just called to tell me that my potassium levels are back to normal
