I wanted to post an update on my contact with the Congresswoman's office , which I am communicating with. The ALA study we were all so upset with, was originally done by Merck, what a surprise! The FDA did contact me and state that they look at all the available data and have even reviewed this site.I am reiterating how important it is to contact your representative in Congress, they are trying to form a coalition for better notification practices. Our Congresswoman Kirsten Gillibrand is working with other members and looking for more to contact her office, that have families they represent. Also the Parents United for Pharmaceutical Safety and Accountability group that Jenna has formed is a very important tool.I will hand deliver it to Washington if we get enough people to get involved. The FDA is taking more time than we would all like but,if they have hired more staff and hopefully that alone will expedite this investigation along.I hope the awareness level rises when WBZT out of Boston airs our stories.Again Please Make a nuisance out of yourself with your Congress Rep. it will help to make it a law to expedite important information on added side effects to the doctors and pharmacist .All of us need to come togehter as one voice and it will make a stronger statement. When the advocacy website is up and running,we can all help by taking the time to contact those who have posted to sign up and get involved. The importance of this was stressed to me by the Congresswoman's staff.I also walked in a Suicide Awareness and Prevention walk over the weekend,I took the opportunity to hand out flyers I printed. They contained information on the serious side effects such as suicidal thoughts and actions, so people that may have had a loved one die from suicide and taking SINGULAIR could make the connection. Many have not made the connection and they are unaware of the link!!!!!!!
I am looking for all avenues to travel, any ideas are appreciated.I have scanned a print out of a sheet that is an alert to post in schools and emailed it to Jenna,if you would like a copy send me a private email and your email address.A family member worked with the School nurse in her hometown and made this a communication tool. You can start at that level and just white out the name of the town and the nurse add your own or nothing just the alert. We went to all the local schools and there is no liability it just states the facts, good for the bulletin board in community centers also!Do what you can to help,it is grass roots efforts that brought this country to what it is now.Even through disappointments we still have the freedom to try to make change.Kate M.

I have been taking Vytorin for approximately 8 months. I noticed that my knees were weak and I had cramps not only in my thighs but also my hands. I can hardly stand up from a sitting position. I thought it was because of the normal aging process. I am a Nurse and started to look at the medications I was taking. I decided that Vytorin could be the culprit. So 1 week ago I stopped taking it. I see some improvement in my knees and cramps. I did have problems with Lipitor in the past. I will not take any more Statin drugs. It is ridiculous to have such side effects from a drug that collegiately is suppose to help you. My cholesterol is around 200. I will seek other avenues to lower my cholesterol.

I am posting an email address for people that have stopped dispensing this drug and see the symptoms of the side effects disappear. Please tell all who have seen a change in their child or loved one to email this woman.I met with Dr.Sarah Sellers and other members from the FDA in Washington DC she is in charge of Safety Review in the office of Surveillance and Epidemiology. This is critical in the investigation into SINGULAIR .Everyone wants to help and this is how to begin. The email is sarah.sellers@fda.hhs.gov Our Congresswoman has requested the TV advertisement for SINGULAIR to be changed, they are stating mild side effects and that is not known to be true at this time.I am reaching out to all of you who have posted and that know anyone who has ,to please do this along with filing on ******.We have to work within the guidelines of the system, this will certainly help the investigation to be more accurate. My husband and I are in this to help all the families that have suffered so greatly, take this opportunity to help also.Thank You in advance Kate and David M.

This is in response to Bachaman ~ Ok, everyone has a right to their two cents...even you. However, there are a couple of major differences between your OPINION, and what is happening to people with CHILDREN. We as adults all know how we feel when we take a med and feel differently from it. Children do not!!! And as adults, we do not know what our children are going through from certain meds. Myself along with many others have not even associated Singulair with our childrens behaviors. We always selected other avenues to take (ie: age, personality, changes made in their lives, etc) I am happy that Singulair works for you! But, you are an adult!!! There are certain drugs that should not be taken by people under 18 due to the body and brain still developing and they could be too much for their little bodies to handle. Look at ANY over the counter med and see the dosing instructions are very different for different ages and body weight. Everyone knows there are risks associated with taking any med. However, most of us trust our dr's, and don't question them when they prescribe things for us or or kids. Be glad you haven't had any problems, but don't sucker punch those of us that has! No amount of money in the world will change any past, so to call people ambulance chasers was a hit below the belt. From the sounds of it, you are not a parent. And if you are, your instincts aren't funtioning properly.

My son started taking singulair in 1999 when he was 12. He was also taking Flonase, Flovent, and Claritin. Currently he is taking Singulair and Clarinex only. He takes these medications year round for asthma and allergy problems. Over the past few years we have gone through an emotional hell that is difficult to describe. Let's just say he has been through counseling and is currently in anger management. I thought that these were life related things.... but he says it isn't and that life isn't bad. He can't name anything he is angry about. Basically, he's a kind, gentle and happy guy. Now he is experiencing blackouts when he is awake. Sounds strange doesn't it. He can't sleep during the night, hears people talking (not to him), sees things that aren't really there but only for a second, and has asked me to get him some help because he feels like he is going crazy. He scares himself. He is 19. I made an appt with a neurologist but the end of February is the soonest we can get in. I would tell him to stop taking it now but just missing one day produces major panic attacks... in a physical sense. I urge parents to try other avenues before singulair, then monitor it closely. It is a dopamine agonist and messing with the receptors or storage modes of dopamine does not appear to be a good idea.

My wife is 39 years old and we have had a wonderful 10 years of marriage until she starting taking Yasmin. She has gotten progressively worse over the past few months to the point she has decided she doesn't need me in her life. Her moods change almost hourly, she has anxiety, depression, needs to be by herself for hours at a time and cannot tell me why she feels I should not be around her any more. She has lost her sex drive but says she still loves me.
I have been researchng premenopuase, medications, and other avenues to try to find the sudden change in demeanor. I finally found this web site and it explains alots. I have a scheduled for a visit with a ob-gyn next week but I do not know if I can even convince her to go for the visit. Has anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions?

I've not experienced any of the horror stories listed here, but I've had two side-effects that I've isolated. The first is the upper respiratory tract infection. That's a known side-effect. The second I believe was caused by an interaction between Januvia and Splenda. I use a lot of Splenda in my oatmeal. I've been having to urinate in the middle of the night (not like me) and I've experienced urinary tract irritation. Since stopping Splenda I've stopped getting up in the middle of the night and my tract irritation is subsiding. But, all this could be incidental and I would like to hear if other people are experiencing these symptoms while on Januvia and using Splenda. It appears, APPEARS, that, while on Januvia, that I experience the published side effect of losing a little bit of my appetite (good!) but that I have an increased appetite (bad!) using Splenda while on Januvia. I did not experience these symptoms while using Splenda before I was on Januvia. Please write to me if you have similar symptoms and situation at ******
