I am so glad I am not crazy and all alone. I've had my Mirena since January for perimenopause and was still getting my period every month until this month. No I have such cramping, joint pain I can barely walk and my lower back is killing me. I am scheduled for a hysterectomy this Wednesday, I CAN'T WAIT, I'll be done forever.

I know that so many of you have said it but I will say it again: THANK GOD I'M NOT ALONE!!!! I thought that I was going mad! Im a 27 year old mother of 3 and decided to get the Mirena because it seemed soooo easy. What was not to like??? 5 years of worry free sex?!?!? Sign me up!!! Well, I had it inserted Sept of 08 and it did not hurt as much as I anticipated (that was a relief). First of all, I bled what seems like nonstop for the first 5 months. Right when I was thinking about having it removed due to the bleeding, it stopped! Suddenly! That made me very happy. But yesterday, as I laid on the couch, in pain, watching my kids destroy the house and helpless to do anything to stop them due to pain and lack of energy, I started thinking really really hard. I said to myself 'self, something is not adding up here'. It suddenly dawned on me that my chest pain, intense lower back pain, my right side hurting so bad that sometime I can hardly stand it to walk, coincidentally started shortly after having the Mirena inserted. The more I thought about it the more it made sense! You see, I have never been a sickly person (thank God!) hardly ever had a headache. But for the first time in my life, I felt as if my body was falling apart!!! I woke up every morning feeling as if I was ran over by an eighteen wheeler! I mean, sometimes I can't even function well enough to get through the day. This is causing so much stress on my children, my fiancee, my school, and work! Everyone (including my DR) thinks that its just stress and that I have too much on my plate. I accepted that for a long time and struggled to simplify things. My Dr. has tried Naproxen for my chest pain, muscle relaxers for what he thinks are pinched nerves causing my backache and stiff neck. But dude, seriously... its getting worst! And besides I do not want to take 50 pills everyday just to function! SO here I am researching side effects and BAM!!! So many women are experiencing the same symptoms. So 1st and for most, thank you all for sharing your experiences. Now I know what is ailing me. But Im not sure that I want to take it out because I love the freedom that comes with the Mirena. I will talk to my doctor about ways to manage or eliminate my symptoms if possible. Does anyone know of another worry-free birth control method? Other than abstinence :-)

I have been taking this drug for almost 4 days, 2x a day at 100mg, i have UTI too, i have been feeling weak, terrible headache, nausea, backache and my eyes would be sore. i just don't think this drug is useful at all. And im 3 months pregnant, my morning sickness went off a week ago but when i started using it nausea is terrible plus backache. i agree this drug needs to be out of the market.

First period after quitting?
Stop reading if you don't wanna be grossed out. ;-)
After being off the pill for almost 7 weeks I got some kind of period. My stomach was hurting for almost a week before and I had a little ache down there too, and a backache. I got a decent amount of bleeding for about 24 hours but then it went away? So I only bled between Sunday afternoon thru Monday afternoon. Is that really normal? Shouldn't the period have lasted 3-5 days to be an actual period? I used to have 3-5 days before I was on the pill.
I'd love to hear from the rest of you cuz now I'm worried even though I did get some kind of period.

I have had the mirena coil for a year and a half now the insertion was incredibly painful and much worse than I was led to believe. I felt ill and for several days with feelings of being pregnant. I am 46 with 2 children age 9 and 11 so just wanted a change from the pill. I am really interested to read all the comments as I thought I was doing alright - no periods great, no particular weight gain even better but have had a backache that has just got worse and worse. I always did have a lower back problem but that had got better over time and also I do horse ride so put it down to that sometimes. However it has got a lot worse over the last year - constantly aching and over a greater area and at night I can hardly move sometimes I am so stiff. Is this anything to do with the coil? The osteopath I see suggests I check this out with the doctor but I can see from all the comments that it is a common problem. Anyway decided I can't stand it any more so about to make an appt to see doctor. And yes no libido - poor husband! and feeling irritated all the time and very tired. Difficult to know whether this part is an age thing though - gets confusing when there could be a menopause issue lurking as well - don't now how you would know!. will be eager to find out if the backache is linked or not!.

I lasted just 20 days on Yaz. I had a persistent "kicked-in-the-stomach" feeling that just wouldn't go away. This is the kind of stomach pain that makes you want to bend over and not sit or stand up straight. For days which I wasn't even on my period, I had cramping and a backache -- which usually only occur for 1-2 days during my period. So it's like I got to experience the pain of my period most of the month! Finally, I couldn't stand the stomach ache any more, and read the leaflet that came with the pills. Then I jumped online and -- surprise! I'm not the only one experiencing nasty side effects. Thank God I finally figured it out. However, it's been 3 days OFF the pills, and still my stomach has been hurting. And for all that pain, my period is still heavy! I had tried Ortho Tricyclen in the past and had very few side effects. It was NOTHING as bad as this. These are some of the worst pills I have ever taken.

I had TIA two years back, my neurologist put me on 80mg Lipitor (Lipiget in Pakistan). I have a whole list of problems since then: tingling in lower part of legs, memory loss, cold sweats, swelling in upper abdomen, lethargy, leg cramps and backache.

I took Zyrtec for some time, as a prescription med. 14 months ago, my blood pressure spiked, for no apparent reason and after 8 different anti-hypertensive drugs, I had no improvement. I was extremely lethargic, I gained 20 pounds, I had severe dizziness, couldn't sleep through the night the last 5 months, my heart would race, constant back ache, and I felt like a snail - no energy to even walk for 10 minutes. Last week, after 3 nights without sleep, and a blood pressure that was so high, I feared a stroke, I went to the emergency room. After a blood test, I was told I was severely anemic! The doctor immediately administered oxygen and ordered a blood transfusion. I continued taking the Zyrtec while in the hospital, and the nursing staff, and my doctor were baffled that my blood pressure would not drop, it continued to rise! All the cardiac tests they performed came back normal, so there's no problem with my heart. The chest X-ray came back clean, no problem with my lungs, I was just anemic, but that didn't explain why my blood pressure would not drop. I came home and forgot to take a dose one night. I slept through the night, but thought "that's because I'm so tired," and the next morning when I checked my blood pressure, it dropped significantly. I couldn't figure out what was going on, I was going CRAZY! That night, I took the Zyrtec, and ALL the horrible symptoms returned. Well, I was pretty sure what the problem was and began researching the next morning. I some information that stated some severe side effects were found after it went to market. The side effects included: aggressive reaction, anaphylaxis, cholestasis, convulsions, glomerulonephritis, hallucinations, hemolytic anemia, hepatitis, orofacial dyskinesia, severe hypotension, stillbirth, suicidal ideation, suicide and thrombocytopenia. That was the LAST dose I took, my blood pressure began to drop the next day and I began to improve overall. I'm scheduled for a kidney function test because that was my backache, the glomerulonephritis; which is an inflammation of the blood vessels in the kidneys. It may be temporary, but can lead to scarring and damage to the point of failure, requiring dialysis and transplant.

Have been on Lipitor for a year. I'm fighting fatigue and depression, difficulty sleeping and slight dizziness, a generalized backache, and a sensitivity to touch. After finding this website, I'm going to try going without it. I hate having no energy, I used to be very active and am now too tired to do anything. I hope statins do not turn out to be the hormone replacement scandal of the 2000s.

I was excited to get going on Lantus. A lady @ dinner one night said she was doing great on it and I was ready. Metformin gave me legs cramps. I gained weight on Prandin. Actos was awful. So I was ready because I needed to get those morning sugars down -- really I need a new job where I'm not at extreme anxiety to go to! My first shot at Lantus I got excruciating headaches. I hadn't had a headache in a long time. So I stopped and I got a headache the next day -- a lot of colds and flus around -- but then they stopped. I ended up waiting longer than I had planned to get back on Lantus and I was in good shape. When I offer up prayers for my nephews in the morning I offer up whatver pains I have. Two weeks ago, I went to offer up my pains -- and I had none. I restarted Lantus that Monday. I got a headache but got rid of it with some advil, coca-cola and head rolls and continued on pretty good, without pains, and with good morning blood sugars. Then I got really upset about something that Thursday night. I didn't take Lantus but cried all night and all day. I took Lantus on Friday night. Saturday I went shopping, did a bunch of errands and just before dinner I started getting a backache and then my IBS really kicked in and completely froze up on my left side giving me the worst cramp I had had in ages! I finally did a yoga move and it subsided but I was wiped from the pain. I missed Mass the next day and walked around in these little shoes all day. Then on Monday @ work, my foot cramped, left foot, like it hasn't in a long time. And I still can't make it better even with stretching and icing and etc. Passing bowel movements has been very difficult. I've had blurry vision. So, from how I feel from "no pain at all" two weeks ago to barely being able to move today, I'm stopping the lantus and I would like to "fire" my doctor. Don't they do their homework? I'm really quite upset about her not doing her homework and possibly pushing this "new lantus" or whatever or however old it is. I have read it hasn't been thoroughly tested -- is that still true? OH,and as I am typing going, I better stop because my hands and arms hurt, those are other symptoms as well, my hands hurt, my wrist hurts, and I have a big knot in the left shoulder blade which won't go away. Many of these side effect / symptoms seem to mimic fibromyalgia to me. I asked my doctor but of course she didn't know. So I think Lantus seems to bring on the fibromyalgia symptoms and I had those all under control. I'm going to San Fran in a couple of weeks and this better be all cleared up because I have to go alone.

Took Lipitor for 8 years, precribed by my physician because my total cholesterol was almost 300. (don't eat junk food or much meat, rather whole grain bread, cheese, much fruit and raw vegetables. Exercised for 40 yrs regularly.) 6 yrs ago I could not walk for more than a few steps, then had to sit down. Still did floor exercises on the mat. I weigh around 120 lbs at 5' in height.
Last Dec. 28, a sudden collapse! Could not even crawl for 3 hrs-- then forced myself up on the bathroom sink cabinet top. (It felt so good to be standing!) Could move all limbs and carefully held on to furniture.
I never took another Lipitor again, but can't stand or walk longer than minutes, before have to sit down. If I hang a dress up in the closet, I have to reach up and hold onto the rod with the other hand. Most of the time I use a cane when leaving the house, but can shop for an hour leaning on the shopping cart. I have a constant backache. With no stomach problems, I dare to take 2 aspirin tablets daily. They work better than Advil, Aleve or Tylenol Arthritis. I have osteoarthritis, but only in the spine. When the pain returns, I take a 7.5 Lortab, to be able to do simple housework in my small home. I live alone. My son is also single and my neighbor, who takes me to the doctor or grocery shopping.
In bed or sitting, I feel no pain. When I was able, I kept busy creating soft-sculpture people, small dolls and dollhouses, and wrote books and magazine articles for publication.
Now I read and play video games on my PC or the XBox., So life is still worth living. I count my blessing. If only my weakness and backache would retreat.
Years ago I trained myself in self-hypnosis. It worked. I haven't had a headache in 34 years, no pains in knees or hips. But Transcendental Meditation won't do the job on my aching back or give me strength.
Epidural steroids did not help.

I am a 46 year old female and have had asthma all my life, medication, shots, inhalers. The past year it got very bad and I was going through inhalers almost weekly. My doctor put me on advair in may of this year.I was so happy it really helped my asthma,no inhalers. Then the side effects started-I felt sick like I had broncitis, sore throat ,sounding hoarse, headaches, very annoyed, anxious, moody, felt like throwing-up,not sleeping, urinary tract infection, backache, confusion, weight gain.I thought I was very ill and was almost afraid to go to the doctor, then I thought about being put on advair and when the symptoms started.I looked up side-effects and BINGO! I am going to tell my doctor to get me off this, kinda afraid I'll get really bad asthma again, but what do you do?Feel like total gargage every day?or not be able to breath? What a choice. This all took place in a matter of 5 months.Everyone is different, every body can or cannot tolerate certain drugs.People do know their own bodies and why doctors don't listen or believe them I don't know. But,I sick and tired of being sick and tired and my whole summer was wasted thanks to advair.Hope I have another option.Lisa K.

Greetings - I have been taking Singulair for just over one week - since I have moved to a different town my asthma has been really bad - I have been visiting hospital once a week and using Flovent and Ventalin. I have not had a problem with asthma (except occassionally from exercise or cold air) for over 10 years. I am not or have not been on any drugs (not even aspirin) ecxept ventalin (only about a dozen puffs a year) for many many years. Since I have started the sungulair as well as symbicort inhaler I have been able to breath fine (first time in 4 months), however I have had extreme cramping in hands and feet and constant backache in lower back. My whole body is weak and sore and I am feeling fuzzy headed. It cannot be a coincidence, unless it is the symbicort, it must be the singulair!

I decided to get on birthcontrol because i had horrible cramps, acne probs and i would get really depressed before Id start my period, and I am also married now and no means ready to have a baby. I went to my doc and she prescribed me yasmin. Before i started takeing it i came along this site. I never wanted to get on birthcontrol before because I have always been afraid of the side effects, then after reading everyone else;s comment about the pill i got even more worried, but i decided to give it a shot anyways, that i could always just stop taking the pill.
Well its been almost two months and I dont really have any complaints yet. My periods are better and shorter. I barely have any cramps. Acne tho is about the same, but i also have heard it takes about 3 months for it to totally start clearing your skin. I have no weight gain or loss. My moods are about the same as they were before. Not any worse or any better.
the only thing i have notice is sometimes id get light cramps and backache...but they come and go...and its not that big of a deal to me because its not painful and its not all the time.
anyways, i thought it be nice to have some positive feedback

I have been on Yasmin for 3 months. During the first month I had mood swings and felt very fatigued. During the second and third months I've had severe muscle cramps in my legs, on and off backache, more fatigue, and shoulder cramps. I am on it to regulate my period which before could happen three weeks apart, or six months apart. I am beginning to feel as though these side effects aren't worth it just to have a regular period.

Where do I begin??? I have been taking Yaz for six months. Migraines! The worst migraines ever, I cannot function for one full day and sometimes more, the pain was so intolerable.
Hives! For the past two months, I keep thinking that I had a food allergy; even my doctor diagnosed it as that. After going to the allergist, I was told that I have developed an allergy to the Yasmin pill. No part of my body has been discriminated with this medication. Hives from the top of my head, in my eyes, right down to the bottom of my feet! This has been the worst experience of my life with this pill.
Fatigue to the extreme! I fall asleep sitting up and never feel rested. Yaz has caused me to go up two cup sizes so far, I went from being a 38C to a 40DD and I can't fit into anything. My boobs are sore a lot.
Weight gain, at least 20 pounds heavier. Nausea; Indigestion; Diarrhea & Constipation; Decreased Sex Drive; and Mood swings; Uncontrollable Rages; Severe body aches; Hot Flashes/Chills; Crying Spells; Blurred Vision; Lack of Concentration; Trouble sleeping; Dizziness; Shaking; Restlessness mainly after 9pm when I should be winding down to go to bed; Terrible night sweats; Never ending cravings for junk food; Inability to cope with stressful situations; Feeling of being inadequate; Can’t concentrate; Gassy; Hate family & partners; Irrational.

I'll be seeing a dr. tomorrow if I feel this miserable after a night's sleep but symptoms are backache and discharge with urgent urination with some burning. I was prescribed docycycline hyclate 100mg capsules-2 a day-for two months! I have 11 days left to take them. It's for the treatment of strep. Can anybody identify with what I'm going through?

hi murph 70,
not sure if this site will help you work out your results,i looked my tsh level up on here.
www.pinelandpress.com/faq/hormonelevels
you could give it a look. i am also having problems with my cycle. i have started to ovulate again (thank goodness!) my periods are still coming between 33 - 38 days instead of my old pre yasmin cycle that was 28 days on the dot. i have some periods that are really heavy and some that are so light they are more like spotting. i suffer pms (with mild anxiety) about 12 days before my period starts until 2 days after bleeding starts. i get an outbreak of acne about 10 days before my period and savage backache just before my period too! all are symptoms of pms,i never had any of these symptoms before i went on yasmin except for the odd monthly spot on my chin! i really wish i had not messed with my perfectly normal cycle but i was totally ignorant to the fact that any of these awful things could happen just from taking a pill,i was told it would improve my life not wreck it!
sorry for the rant murph 70 but i find once i start on the subject i can't stop! hope the site i suggested is of some help.

thanks murph70.
you are quite right, my backache is also by far the least bothersome of my post yasmin symptoms! i just wondered how many people suffered the same effect,it's unbeleivable how many aspects of your body can be effected by your hormones,i must admit i was completely ignorant or their effects before my yasmin experience prompted me to look into it. knowing what i do now i will never mess with my hormones artificially again!

Hi
-- By marieuk | Reply | (3) replies | Private Message meI am in the UK - where any knowledge of side effects related to Yasmin appear to be non-existent. I was prescribed this to treat my endo after having problems with another pill (constant bleeding and mood swings).
Initially it was like a magic pill - immediately improving the mood swings and stopping the constant bleeding. Then after about 4 days I felt so nauseous I wanted to go home from work - this lasted a few days.
A week and half into my first pack, I suffered continuous asthma attacks - with no obvious cause, this developed in hours to spontaneous vomiting along with a hacking cough.nI was prescribed antibiotics for "infections". The symptoms continued until it was unbearable and I was put on anti-vomiting tablets. and changed onto a different antibiotic.
A week later back at the doctors surgery I had a series of tests - awaiting results as I type, as I have very dark urine, stools that are not "normal" (clay or yellow), pain in my stomach, pins and needles, continue to vomit if don't take the anti vomiting tablets. Have now stopped taking Yasmin and await results...
HOw long does everyone appear to improve after stopping taking Yasmin? Also does this sound like I may have a case of hyperkalemia? (I am awaiting results).
Many thank
