I was given Avelox at my clinic for bacterial pneumonia, the doctor said it was a wonder drug and I'd be up and running in a couple of days. I took the medicine that night and I got very dizzy and started sweating, felt like an anxiety attack so I took my xanax and it helped a bit. The next day I tried to get up and about 15 min. later my head started buzzing and my ears were ringing, I tried to walk up the stairs and dropped to my knees at the top step and fell to the ground. I didn't lose consciousness but I couldn't move or speak for several min. when I started to come to, I crawled to my bed and everything was spinning, I started to have severe chest pain and was rushed back to the clinic. The doctor said to stay on the Avelox and take it before bed and finish all the dose, so I did, and gradually got worse and worse. I went to my doctor the day after Christmas and told him what happened, he said I still had crackling in my chest and my cough was still bad, he put me back on Avelox for 3 days, so I've now been on it for 10 days. I became so weak and couldn't eat, it felt like the food wouldn't go down, I was sweating, dizzy, still had cough so I called my doctor again and he put me on prednisone taper and another 5 days of Avelox. Two days later I ended up in the hospital with severe abdominal pain, diarrhea, muscle weakness(felt like I had lost muscle), severe bone pain to the touch, sweating, extreme fatigue, decreased mental ability, confusion, headaches and chills in my legs. It has been over three months since I first got sick and I feel worse today, my doctor's have no answers or solutions, just let it run its course. I feel trapped in my body, I'm 33 and a mother of two active kids, and I can barely get out of bed most days. I feel like my life has been taken from me and I want it back.

OH MY GOD!!!! I thought I might be imagining things. I was prescribed Levaquin and clyndamycin on December 15 2008 for a urinary tract infection that appeared to have gone systemic. After 2 days my right knee swelled up. I went back to the Dr the next day and he looked up both antibiotics in his little book and said the clyndamycin could cause joint swelling and pain. He told me to stop taking the clyndamycin and take 600 mg of ibuprofen for the joint paig. His little book said nothing about levaquin. Well I kept taking the levaquin and the pain spread literally to every joint in my body. I could not walk and had trouble even holding a coffee cup. The pain was unreal. I completed the 10 day course of the levequin as instructed. The joint pain was getting worse. I called the Dr. again and they did blood work to rule out arthritis and stuff like that. He put me on prednisone which has significantly helped with the pain. He said it may be a coincidence that I have developed arthritis and that it had nothing to do with the UTI. Well as I was watching TV last night I saw a lawyers commercial for a law suit against levaquin and cipro. Then today got on the internet and found this site. I am going to call the Dr. and tell him to update his little book he looked up the levaquin in. My fear is how long after you stop taking this poison does the joint pain end? I wish I would have known all of this sooner. I will never take this drug again.

My Dad,a 78 year old highly functioning man, was admitted to the hospital last Wednesday evening, June 25, with a case of bacterial pneumonia. They gave him his first dose of Avelox, at 10:00PM. Twelve hours later, he was hallucinating, agitated, had an irregular racing heartbeat. He also had severe tremors, shaking. They gave him more medication for his heart and transferred him to the cardiac unit. They put him on a blood thinner, heart medication. Tested his heart and examined his brain. All tests came back negative. Thank God my father's heart is strong, or we probably would have lost him. 3 days later, I was on the internet researching Avelox, and noticed immediately that all of his problems were side effects of this drug. My family notified the doctor immediately and demanded that they switch my father's meds. The doctors did so reluctantly. They had never heard of these kind of side effects related to Avelox, even though it affects almost 3% of the population. My father had his last dose of Avelox on Sunday. Today, Tuesday, he is still having some "visions" and is confused. I don't know how long it is going to take for these side effects to disappear. The doctors are no help. This medication has caused my father and family severe stress, and prolonged his stay in the hospital. It has cost the insurance company extra money, since they had to do unnecessary testing on my father to try and determine the cause of his symptoms. He was also given additional meds that he never would have needed if they had just prescribed Zithromax from the beginning. AVOID AVELOX - IT COULD KILL YOU!

i have been on Yaz for almost two months and i am stopping this pill after i finish this pack. at first i thought it was great, but did not consider that the reason i got a severe bacterial pneumonia, as that it might have to do with this pill. when i read from the makers of Yaz itself that a number of trial patients came down with a URI and that it may or may not be the result of the pill, it started adding up.
so i got through that and now i am still dealing with nausea that lasts all day some days. i am also having some stomach cramping and my stools have recently been very dark, which is unusual.
i don't feel that it is helping my PMS. My first period was lighter, but the kind of cramping it caused was different and still very painful for me.
i just don't get a good feeling about this one and don't like the idea that it affects your kidneys processing of potassium to the point where you have to get your blood checked for elevated levels.
also, i had a certain amount of cellulite that seemed to appear within a short amount of time. i don't like this at all. i didn't have that before. i had a little, but now it is like doubled.
i am also having dizzy spells and blurred vision and since i have fibro, i have noticed that i am in more pain lately.
so goodbye to Yaz. no more BC for me. this just motivated me to try and balance my hormones doing everything i can naturally.

My mother actually already posted about my experience with Levaquin, but I thought I would add my own story.
After being perscribed Levaquin and taking only one...I couldn't sleep, my heart rate (normally below 60) was at atleast 110, I thought people were outside my house and envisioned them talking about killing me. I have never felt this way in my life. It was very scary and I called the ER to ask if I should continue taking the meds. They told me to take another and see what happens... Thank goodness I threw it up, because after reading these horror stories, I'm afraid I may have had permanent damage. This drug is absolutely awful for those with side effects. Stop taking them at the first sign of symptoms like these. Most doctors it looks like are oblivious to the fact that this is happening.

I am currently taking Levaquin 750 mg for bacterial pneumonia. I've been taking Levaquin for 4 days now and feel obligated to warn those taking this drug that it causes severe insomnia - WHICH IS JUST THE OPPOSITE OF WHAT IS REQUIRED WHEN YOUR BODY IS TRYING TO HEAL ITSELF!!
The drug also causes a rather severe intensification in your mental state and thinking - causing you to enter into a quasi zombie-like mental state. This is worsened when combined with the insomnia that the drug causes.
THESE DRUG COMPANIES ARE TO BLAME BECAUSE THEY DON'T TELL YOU ABOUT THE REAL DEAL CONSEQUENCES OF TAKING THEIR PRODUCTS.
Beware of the insomnia and zombie-like state that this drug induces!!

I started taking 750 mg of Levaquin as prescribed by my doctor on Wednesday, December 27th for my bacterial pneumonia. The following morning I had arthritis like pain in my shoulders, neck, elbows, calves and even my feet. I also had diarrhea, nausea and fatigue. I continued to take this medication because I thought I was having "flu" like symptoms because of the bacterial pneumonia. I stopped taking the Levaquin today because I had researched the side effects yesterday evening. The nausea and diarrhea have subsided. I still have the arthritis like pain in my joints and fatigue.

About a month ago I took Levaquin for a bacterial infection. It was taken for a painfully infected hair follicle on my face. After 4 days of the med (Levequin) I woke one morning with pain and swelling in my legs and feet, as well as generalized swelling in my entire body. I had a feeling of "brain fog". A year prior to this occurance I had been admitted to the hospital with a bacterial pneumonia at which time I was medicated with Tequin. After that I sufferred with swelling and pain in my joints and tingling and numbness in my hands and arm that lasted approximately 6-7 months. At that time I did not relate it to the drug Tequin. I assumed it was due to age and being over weight (56y/o and 190lb. at 5' 3". However It did get better and I was only left with a loud click in my knee and tingling in my arms and hands. I went to the Chiropractor for some relief of those syptoms, until a month ago when it suddenly returned after using Levaquin for 4 days. I am experiencing pain mostly in my lower extremities. It feel as though the muscles and tendons are very tight at times and at other times they feel unstable with burning and pain alternating from one area to another, sometimes the left side, sometimes the knees sometimes the ankles and feet. I have to be very careful when I stand up to walk to get my balance and stabilize my postion so I don't tear anything with sudden movement or chage of direction. I limp most of the time depending on which extremity it affects at the time. It seems to be affected by the barometric pressure also.

Biaxin is by far the worst thing that has ever happened to me. I was presecribed it two days ago for a sinus infection and bacterial pneumonia. My heart beats extremely fast at night and it is impossible to sleep. I woke up this morning to violent dry heaving, while ever bite of food is a struggle to keep down. I have been sick for 3 weeks prior to this, and I can honestly say that Biaxin has made me feel so much worse. It really makes me feel like I am dying.
