Like most everyone else on this site, I wish I had read this first.
I had Mirena inserted in February 2009. At first I thought it was te best thing I had ever done. It was for the first 5 months. But then it started. Headaches, BAD acne (never had any before, now I have huge cyst type things in my ear lobes and all over my face), bad cramps, gained 30lbs right off the bat and now have been on Weight Watchers since June and have only lost 5 pounds. No matter what I do. I was going to stick it out and just see. But, thank you to those who have posted to this site. I guess the side effects don't just go away like I have hoped over the last few months. Sounds like they get worse. Thanks for helping me make my decision to get it removed. Oh and I'm one of those people who NEVER experience the bad side effects. I use to brag about that. I never even read the Mirena side effects because that's not something I ever had to worry about before.

my mirena experience was a nightmare to say the least. i had it inserted about 1.5 years ago and finally had it removed last week. the insertion itself was a nightmare. i passed out. i had horrid pain but then was fine within a day or two. the following week, i near passed out. then, i felt lightheaded for about 6 weeks and was convinced it was mirena. i went for my followup. I was feeling better so i decided to keep going.
in the "getting used" to period i had very painful breasts. eventually i had a painful breast lump that stuck around for a few months. off to the doctor for mammogram and ultrasound. they found it was not the bad kind of lump. it cleared up in a couple months.
about 4 months after insertion, i had a couple of near passing out incidents. off to the doctor again - this time for EKG, echo cardiogram, holter monitor. all normal. they suggested i had either panic attacks or vasovagal syndrome.
i also found that i was extremely alcohol sensitive. one drink was a huge problem for me! (in retrospect, i believe the near passing out and alcohol sensitivity were due to becoming hypoglycemic. it turns out progesterone is tightly coupled to insulin response! who knew!).
my next problem was cystic acne. this is really bad acne that goes deep in the skin and is impossible to get rid of (never had that before!). so i was off to the dermatologist.
oh and did i mention that all this passing out ended up giving me terrible anxiety? so now off to the shrink.
overall, it has been 1 year of a near constant feeling of lightheadedness, numerous near passing out / vasovagal type of episodes (probably due to low blood sugar), anxiety about passing out, throbbing head feeling (which i just realized is a migraine), unable to sleep through the night, mid cycle cyst pain, terribly tender breasts just before my period, did i miss anything?
now, let me mention that all the doctors to whom i mentioned that maybe mirena is the cause of my problems said "nah, that is not it." i also mentioned blood sugar and no one bought that either - "nah, you are too physically fit, eat too healthfully, and your blood test from last year is normal."
finally, the psych nurse believed me. she said to get the mirena removed since it appeared all my problems started after the insertion. if it was psychological or if it was physical didn't matter. just get it out!
i've had it out about 6 days now and i would say i feel 70% better. the throbbing head sensation at night is gone and i am sleeping much better. the lightheadedness is improved. i feel much less hungry than i did on mirena so i can only guess my hypoglycemia is improving.
only time will tell if my problems were caused by mirena!

I am 25, I had my daughter last October 2008 and had Mirena inserted December 2008 at my 8 week postpartum appt. Everything was fine for about 6 months... It is now September 2009 and since July I have been having EXTREME hair loss (I already have gone through the post preggo hair loss 3 months after giving birth), anxiety feeling in the chest, crazy discharge, erratic periods, no sex drive, moody, ACNE on face chest and back (and I NEVER have acne). So my annual physical was yesterday, so I tell my doc about all these symptoms and he thinks "thyroid" so they pull 4 viles of blood. Then, I get home and I googled "Mirena and hair loss" and here's this site! SO, I called my OBGYN this afternoon and tell her Im losing my hair plus the other symptoms I listed above and she says "Yep its the Mirena, the same thing happened when I had it too and it stopped when I took it out" So she told me to come in and they will remove it and try PARAGUARD - a NO hormone IUD that will bring me back to my "base" and I will start having one period a month (like your body is supposed to in my eyes) and no crazy side effects. I can not tell you how much better I feel that she said right away it was the Mirena. I have really not been feeling myself the past 2 months AND everyone in my household has noticed my hair ALL OVER THE PLACE and has asked me to ask the Doctor... so glad I did.

Oh, and I also want to mention that I had pretty bad acne prior to beginning the Yasmin in 2001. I tried all kinds of meds and Yasmin was the only med. that cleared it up. It was amazing. The good news is that even when I was prego, and not taking Yasmin, my face remained clear. So hopefully, if I stop taking Yasmin (Othello), my face will remain clear, too.

Hello,
I've tried a bunch of different brands and types of BC's in the past, and none ever worked well with me... then i started Yasmin. It worked wonders. helped my acne, cramps, length of my period etc... i was on it for about 1 year. i stopped BC and had my son (Nov 18 09) .. my doc told me to get back on the pill about 2 months after my son was born and i have been on it since.. lately I've been noticing that I'm not me anymore... i can't remember the last time I've felt like myself.. depression, lack of motivation, hopelessness, i get irritated over the stupidest things, LOW sex drive, LIKE NONE AT ALL, lack of confidence, loss of appetite, loss of hair ongoing 9 months after birth and getting worse, bad menstrual cramps, bad acne, dark colored urine, strange vaginal discharge before my period, longer periods, migraines, mood swings, irrational thoughts and outburst, dizzy spells, blurred (black) vision upon standing, seeing spots and light headed, etc... i attributed all of this to postpartum hormonal imbalance, stress, etc... but I'm now considering the fact that maybe Yasmin is doing this to my body... so i will stop the pill or switch it, my next appointment is only in a month so no sex till then, but yet again my libido is completely gone so that will be no problem... (ahh my POOR BF) lol
all this to say that if it was postpartum depression, my son wouldn't be the only reason i get up in the morning, i wouldn't get up at all...
i know that this isn't postpartum depression... I'm positive that it's Yasmin causing all this i know at least that some of it is..
What i don't understand is that we all have a bunch of docs that ignore us and our bodies.. this isn't only happening to on person this is a lot of people who have had similar and sever reactions to this pill, it should really be taken off the market, or at least doctors should warn us about the "other" side effects...
anyways I'm DONE with this pill and will tell all my friends.
it at least feels good to get this off my chest... it's hard to talk about this stuff to people who are close to you...
All this sounds crazy but makes sense at the same time...
thank god i found this site!

Holy hell. I don't think I'll ever find a birth control i like. After being on Aviane for a few months i have developed bad acne in my T-zone. Ive never had perfect skin - a zit here and there every once in a while, but recently its been quite bad. Also i have been quite irritable. Is Aviane to blame? Im gonna keep researching.

I am so glad to see that so many have had a good experiences with the mirena, me... not so much.
I had it inserted roughly 3 years ago (my youngest was 4 at the time and I was and still am in a committed monogamous relationship) and since then I have gained about 30 pounds that I cannot get rid of(despite a very healthy diet from a nutritionist AND working with a personal trainer), very moody, tender and lumpy breasts (it hurts to even sleep on my stomach) mostly around my "period" (as I only have very light spotting, but I can still tell when it is)bad acne, fine peach fuzzy hair over my face, chest, and back along with course dark hairs on and under my chin. But, the biggest issue I have had were/are the ovarian cysts. I have never had them before the mirena, and within the first year had one on each ovary and had to go to the ER. Since I know what they are now (and don't want another $3000.00 hospital bill) when I get them it is debilitating, but I can wait it out with pain killers at home till they rupture or go away.
Even with all this I was hesitant to have it removed, but after reading this site (and a few others) I think it is time. I really wish it would have worked, but apparently my body just doesn't agree with it...

This is absolutely NUTS! I had the Mirena inserted August 2007 because I was SURE I didn't want any more children but because I was only 26 they refused a tubal and suggested Mirena (which they talked about like it was the best thing since sliced bread). Well I fell for it, insertion wasn't horrible, hurt for a split second and a bit crampy for a while but nothing major...then I bled for 5 or 6 days HEAVILY. Then it died down to an annoying amount, just enough to have to use a tampon...for 3 MONTHS STRAIGHT! I was just about fed up and ready to have it removed when I stopped bleeding and haven't bled since (with the exception of very rare barely there pink spotting after sex a few times). Ive loved not having my period and none of the emotional ups and downs that I had always had with the pill or the patch. Everything was fine until about the 1 year mark, when suddenly one night I thought I was having a heart attack, no joke! my heart was beating really fast, and hard, my left arm was tingling, my chest felt tight....only to have every test in the book come back completely NORMAL. Talk about feeling delusional! I quit smoking, quit drinking, started eating like a health nut and exercising 6-7 days a week...and it seems I gradually feel worse and worse every day. I've noticed the past few months several things, bad acne on my back, sometimes on my shoulders and chest as well, which I have never experienced in my life, I'm "fuzzy" on my back, face and chest (blond but like peach fuzz), i've notice dark hairs on my chin that i pluck but seem to return right away, and sudden bouts of depression and mood swings that are very uncharacteristic for me. Looking back there have been several times where i was really tired, dizzy and nauseous and bought and took pregnancy tests thinking I HAD to be pregnant only to have a negative result. I don't think my sex drive has been affected though I've always been more like a male in that regard (lol) so if it has I guess it would just be more along the "normal" lines now than lacking. We have decided we want to try to have another baby but I've read on other sites the horrible side effects (like the "crash") after removal and how horrible your periods can end up being and now I'm petrified to get it taken out as much as I am to leave it in!
For all of you who have had it taken out, how long did you bleed, how badly and did you experience the "crash" emotionally?

I am 21 years old and I have been on Loestrin 24 since June 2nd. I'm about half-way through my second pack. I used to take Kariva which had a lot of negative side effects (headaches, weight gain, couldn't wear contacts, longer periods). Fortunately, I haven't had many of the bad side effects with Loestrin 24 that most women have been describing. My first period on Loestrin 24 came a little late but when it eventually came it was quite light and only lasted about 3 days. I also haven't experienced ANY spotting which is good. I have been a little nauseous and I threw up once which I can only assume was from the pill. I've had some trouble sleeping and some weird dreams but I usually do anyway so its not too bothersome. My only major issue is acne. It seems like in the last couple weeks it has gotten a lot worse, even worse than when I wasn't on any type of pill. I noticed a lot of women saying that their acne got worse. I was just wondering if it will eventually get better? I may have to talk to my doctor because it’s getting bad (I notice at least 1 new pimple a day). I've always struggled with acne so if it continues to get worse I'm totally going to stop taking this pill. Any suggestions or feedback would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Hi Ladies, like all of you I too have my share of Mirena issues. I have had my IUD in since March 2008, so a year & four months now. To start with the positive- I do not get periods. I haven't had a period starting the following month I had it put in. Now for all the Negatives- Bad Acne and usually I have great skin. Not anymore. They are more like red bumps mainly on my forehead, Constant migraines, mood swings, constantly stressed, pain in my lower abdomen, lower back pain (Doctors thought I had a kidney infection- all urine, blood tests, pelvin ultrasound, CAT scan were normal), constant urinating & cannot hold my urine (like a bad UTI), I have noticed when I comb my hair after washing it, I am losing a lot of hair, I get a lot of dizzy spells all the time, painful cramps in my legs, fluttering in my stomach (like a baby moving/kicking- I thought I was pregnant), I have a lot of discharge- I will be walking a big gush just comes out, my sex drive is barely there- I am in my 20's and just about every time I have sex with my husband I will just go dry in the middle of it & just about every position hurts, I have very itchy skin now. I am always scratching especially my legs. I am always applying lotion to help with the itching, I also developed a ganglion cyst in my hand next to my wrist. It was so painful my hands would swell, numbness & tingling in my fingers, pain in my forearm, I just had a needle aspiration done a few days ago. Now that I have confirmed the side effects with this site, as soon as my doctor's office opens I am calling to have this trash removed!!! Thank you Ladies.

Just want to survey everyone and ask for responses for the following 3 questions:
1. how long did you keep your Mirena and if you no longer have it, why did you have it removed?
2. how many of you had your thyroid checked? who's came back abnormal? what were the levels?
(I'm a medical student doing research on this one since I believe the levonorgestrel affects our thyroid hormone. My TSH was elevated to 5.2 which is considered "subclinical HYPOthyroidism". This was mid cycle when my natural progesterone AND synthetic progestin were cumulatively high. When I had it rechecked 6 weeks later (around my period when any natural progesterone level is gone) it was normalized at 1.5. So I think that the P+P screws up our thyroid and can throw us into a high TSH and "hypothyroid state". The opposite effect may be true during menstruation and we can become HYPERthyroid for a few days... hence the really bad anxiety?!)
3. where is everyone from? perhaps we can have support group meetings?

I am so glad I found this web site. I thought I was just depressed or something. I have been moody, angry, and NO SEX DRIVE. None. My boyfriend and I were just thinking it was because of having a baby ( 11 months ago!). I am weepy, anxious, and have migraines all the time, plus bad acne and weight gain, I had almost all of it off after 8 weeks, but a lot of it came right back. I've never been like this before and am a usually happy, easy going person. I have an appointment tomorrow to have this removed, and to see if this is the case.
When I called to make an appt, my nurse suggested Zoloft first! I was like no way. I am 28 and young and (was) happy! There is no way. So I am testing the waters first and taking this out!
Thanks for all the stories, at least I know I'm not alone!

I had my Mirena for a little over a year. I started getting really bad acne approx. 4-5 months ago. I believe it was due to the hormones in the Mirena. I saw a dermatologist and she said that the hormone can make you more androgenic thus causing acne. I had my Mirena removed about 1 week ago and I am having really bad mood swings, loss of sex drive, tender breasts, and headaches. I also had a problem that started with my wrist back in December. Has anyone else had wrist pain or any joint pain?

I had been on Yasmin for about seven years. I decided to get on the pill because I used to experience HORRIBLE menstrual cramps and pretty bad acne. For seven years, I thought that Yasmin was the BEST thing that ever happened to me. My cramps went away, my acne cleared up and my hair seemed healthier than ever.
In January, I decided to give my body a break and get off of the pill. I figured that seven years was a long time to be dependent on a drug. Since I have gotten off, I have had a RIDICULOUS amount of hair loss, terrible mood swings, hints of depression, wacky appetites, increased acne and my menstrual cramps are getting worse with each cycle. I have been off of the pill for 5 months now and I am wondering how long it takes before the drug is completely out of my system. Can anyone help?

I started this pill about a month and a half ago, and besides the mood swings, constant want to cry, and the hardly-ever period, i developed really bad acne on both my face and genitals. it sounds gross but it's for real. i know it's not an STD or herpes or anything it's just a few red pimples around the "area".. has this happened to anyone else and how did you get rid of them???

hi, I had Mirena put in Sept. 08. I had bad acne for about 3 months. never had acne before. It went away. I have ringing in my ears almost everyday. I have been bleeding since I had it put in. I think altogether i've stopped bleeding for 3 weeks. I too was told how safe and reliable this was. I've had 3 kids and I don't want anymore kids right now. I thought this would be the best choice. I am going to call the doctor to have mine removed. My feet are swollen also.

LOL- EVERYONE! I'M SITTING HERE SEARCHING FOR SIDE EFFECTS FOR MIRENA AFTER REMOVAL. I HAD MIRENA FOR 1 1/2 YEARS, AND I REMOVED IT ABOUT 2 MONTHS AGO. I HAVE EXTREMELY HEAVY BLEEDING SO I FIGURED I WOULD SEARCH IF IT HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE REMOVAL. WHEN I HAD MIRENA INSERTED, I HAD ABSOLUTELY NO PROBLEMS! THE ONLY SIDE EFFECT I HAD THE ENTIRE TIME WAS EXTREMELY LIGHT PERIODS FOR 2 DAYS, BUT I GOT THE PERIODS EVERY OTHER WEEK! WHEN IT WAS REMOVED, I FELT ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! NO PROBLEMS! I WAS IN SHOCK BECAUSE I THOUGHT IT WAS GOING TO HURT. THE ONLY REASON I DECIDED TO HAVE THE MIRENA REMOVED IS BECAUSE MY HUSBAND AND I PLANNED A TROPICAL VACATION, AND I DIDN'T WANT TO BE BLEEDING ALL THE TIME, SO I FIGURED-GET IT REMOVED AND GET THE DEPO ( I HAD DEPO FOR 9 YEARS AND HAD NO PROBLEMS, AND NEVER GOT MY PERIOD). WELL, HERE'S A FUNNY STORY!! THE REASON THIS VACATION IS IMPORTANT IS BECAUSE I AM CONSTANTLY DEPRESSED, ALWAYS CRYING, EASILY AGGRAVATED, LOST ALL MOTIVATION, LAZY-I STOPPED CLEANING/ COOKING, I DON'T GO OUTSIDE WITH MY LITTLE ONES- MY HUSBAND DOES, ALONG WITH EVERYTHING ELSE. NO SEX!! MY HAIR IS FALLING OUT , EXTREMELY BAD ACNE (RESULTING IN MANY TRIPS TO THE DERM. AND SHORT HAIR CUT), I SOMETIMES FEELS PINS AND NEEDLES ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF MY BODY FOR DAYS! I WENT TO THE DR. AND SHE SAID I WAS EXTREMELY OVERWHELMED, STRESSED AND DEPRESSED! I ALSO HAD A THYROID TEST. MY THYROID IS FINE, AND AS FOR THE MEDS THAT WAS PRESCRIBED FOR DEPRESSION- I NEVER TOOK THEM ( I'M NOT A PILL TAKER-CAN'T REMEMBER!) SO AFTER ALL A TROPICAL VACATION IS JUST WHAT I PROBABLY NEED TO SNAP ME OUT OF WHATEVER MY PROBLEM IS! WELL, AFTER READING THIS , ALL I COULD DO IS LAUGH!! YOU SEE, LOOKING BACK----IN THE PAST 2 MONTHS- I HAVEN'T CRIED, I AM FILLED WITH TREMENDOUS JOY WITH LOTS OF ENERGY. I TOOK MY KIDS TO THE PARK AND FOR LONG WALKS NUMEROUS TIMES. I CLEANED THE ENTIRE HOUSE AND IT'S STILL SPOTLESS, COOKED ALMOST EVERY NIGHT, I HAVEN'T HAD A SISSY FIT, OR FELT SOME TYPE OF ANNOYANCE YET, MY FACE IS CLEARER, MY HAIR HASN'T FALLEN OUT AND GREW LONGER. AND MOST IMPORTANT I LOST 34 POUNDS! ( 174-140). RIGHT NOW AT THIS CURRENT MOMENT I FEEL BETTER THAN EVER! MIRENA BEING THE CULPRIT NEVER ONCE CROSSED MY MIND. I SUMMED UP MY PROBLEMS TO BEING STRESSED FROM MARRIAGE, 3 HIGHLY ACTIVE CHILDREN AND RUNNING A BUSINESS. SO I SIT HERE IN MY GLORY AND CHUCKLE TO MY SELF THINKING ABOUT ALL MY POINTLESS NAGGING & CRYING & BLAH BLAH BLAH. AND I THANK YOU WOMEN FOR OPENING UP AND BEING HONEST BECAUSE I NOW KNOW WHAT WAS WRONG! THANK YOU.

Wow, this site has been very informative. I have had the mirena since May of 2007. I haven't experienced any of the bad cramping, except the first couple of days after insertion, nor have I experienced hair loss or bad acne. My one complaint is that I have never had a yeast infection before having the mirena. I have probably had 4 or 5 within the last 6 months. I thought it was just my body, but after reading this I am considering having mine removed. In the last few months, I experienced vaginal itching and burning. I have used over the counter medications, which relieves the effects and gets rid of the infection, but it seems like after my partner and I have intercourse it comes right back. My last pap was 5 months ago and everything was fine. I know it's no STD and my partner and I are monogamous. The yeast infections are driving me crazy and I'm relieved to know that it's not just me.

I have had Mirena for five months now since Oct. 2008. I seriously thought I was making the best decision after begin told by my doctor that I could not get my tubes tied because I did not inform her before my six week check-up. And she totally talked me into getting mirena. I waited a week to read up on mirena on the official website and i heard nothing but good reviews.Since I had mirena inserted I have had some periodic cramping which did not seem so bad. Yester was the first day i experienced my period since mirena. To my surprise I had no sanitary napkins (pads) available I only had tampons. I was afraid and a little reluctant to use the tampons b/cause I was not sure if it was safe to do so with the IUD in plac, so i decided to research it on the website I google for mirena side effects and my results wer the official website along with tons of others. I decided to check the official site b/cause I thought that they would best be able to answer my question an address my concern about the tampons. Well the did answer my question and said that there was no risk and it was safe to use iI just needed to pay close attention as to how I removed it so as to not remove the device instead. Well anyway I used the tampon and when dear hubby returned from work I rushed to the store to get some sanitary napkins (Pads) b/cause I was still a little scared with the tampons. That whole evening the situation pondered me and I started to think about all the other sites that i came across but never pulled them up and thought that maybe I should b/cause one sub heading caught mu attention which said" I finally got Mirena removed Yeaaa!!!". Anyway this morning I got up and started my research I was shocked by the things I was reading about the side effects which were all things that I was experiencing but had no idea and no clue that the mirena was the cause . Here goes, I experienced the cramping, very uncomfortable at times. Oh my God the extreme hair loss, which i was told that due to increased hormones during pregnancy it happens shortly after giving birth when the hormones are leaving the body and decreasing. Bull shit I am almost six months postpartum hormones are all gone and still i have excessive hair loss. The tiredness and depression I thought was due to me being at home all day. I never have the strength to do simple chores around the house even when I take vitamins. I am always sleepy and sleeping. And the weight gain I thought It was shame on me I had gained over 30lbs since my six week check up. I am always hungry can never seem to stick to a diet or exercise regimine. Pre pregnancy with my last child which I have three I weighed 125 lbs and have always been a fitness fanatic with six pack abs!!! Now I have a barrel so to speak. Which I did not have after giving birth until i started the weight gain that I thought was due to being at home and being stressed with so much going on in my life within the last two years. little did I know MIRENA made me FATTT!!!!!!. I have also had problems with back and chest pain and also total body pain. I have stairs in my recent new home which it literally hurts me to go up and down the stairs b/cause my whole body is in pain I just thought I was fat and out of Shape but I constantly walked pre and post pregnancy so no it's not me its MIRENA!!!. I have also experienced very bad blurry vision. Hell! I thought i was going blind! I could never focus my eyes and they are always cloudy and blurry.I also experience a very annoying ringing sound in my ear like a radio which sometimes last very long. I am so happy to have found this site and realize that nothing is wrong with me it is MIRENA that is the problem and I am going to waste no time to fix it my plan was to have mirena for at least two years then get my tubes removed b/cause I do not want any more kids but I am not waiting any longer I am going to make an appointment to have it removed ASAP!!!! I need my life , my energy, appearance and my happiness back so long MIRENA. I wil;l not miss you one bit I will let you all know how it turns out fell free to comment and ask questions. I think I experienced it all and poor me I did not know. Thank you all so much for this site and information. Oh! my husband will be happy to know that his sexy little house wife did not just happen to deteriorate for no reason!!!!!! he will be reading this site.

I had it put in in March 08 6 weeks after I had my daughter. Since the first month I was on it Ive never really been off my period for more than 2 weeks and in between my periods i have light spotting and it is really annoying. My face looks horrible , I too like a lot of you have terrible acne now I started using a new make up by Mac and felt this is what had to have caused my breakouts well I tossed out my expensive makeup and went to a mineral make up thinking it was causing my breakouts well that was 6 months ago and NO IMPROVEMENT! so today I decided that I would get to the root of the problem and it had run across my mind that it may be due to the Mirena but never would I have thought so many people have had to deal with my same exact symptoms , besides the bad acne I'm also always tired, depressed at times very easy to cry about absolutely nothing! i almost sound like a nutcase I am going to call first thing tomorrow and get this thing out of me I've also had to deal with pain after sex severe laying on the floor in the bathroom type pain what a nightmare and i am being totally honest no exaggeration here

I had been taking Tri-Sprintec for about 4 months. I turned into a very odd person, i was pissed at everything, every tiny little thing would make me cry and i finally ran out of excuses for crying and was thinking was seriously wrong with me. I would break down bawling at work just because I didn't want to go to work that day. It was extreme. Then it actually turned a little bit into depression. It caused major problems with me and my boyfriend. He thought that I wasn't happy with him and I thought that I was crazy for getting mad about everything but I couldn't help it. I was also bleeding for about 10 days and it was heavy heavy bleeding.
I gained about 7 pounds and i ate like crazy, even when I wasn't hungry at all. The only good thing that I noticed was my zits went away for good. I have never had bad acne but a few zits here and there. I don't think I have one zit for the 4 months I was on Tri-Sprintec.
After 4 months being on Tri-Sprintec I switched to Sprintec. I noticed allll the emotional problems that I was having have gone away in an instant. I have only been on Sprintec for about 4-5 days but I haven't cried at all, I have not got into a fight with my boyfriend, I am not sad at all. I haven't noticed anything different about my periods though because I have only been on it for less than a week. I am amazed about the different emotional response to things and very satisfied because that was the main reason why I switched to a different kind.
I used Depo-prevera shot for about 8 years before I went onto the pill. The depo shot was convenient, cheap, and amazing! I never experienced weight gain, mood swings, or anything and it messed up my period so i barely had a period for 3 years. I didn't complain though. Then after the depo-shot I started taking pills because I wanted to decrease the risk of osteoperosis the depo shot causes. The first birth control pill I took was Lybrel and it was amazing, never had any problems, but it was also amazingly expensive so i switched the Tri-Sprintec and here I am on Sprintec now. Thanks for listening to my journey!

I am so glad I have found this site!! I had Mirena inserted about 10 months ago...and after reading the posts I'm having it removed tomorrow! I decided to look up Mirena on the web as last night my Husband told me that I'm so moody all the time & he's sick of it. Looking back... since having Mirena fitted I've suffered with cramps, dizziness, back pain, weight gain, depression, lack of energy & very bad mood swings. I've also been having really bad acne for about 6 months and tried everything to stop it but without success. I was diagnosed with a blood condition about 3 yrs ago and I found out today on another website that there is a Caution to having Mirena fitted (my Doctor never mentioned this to me!!) I can't wait to have this evil thing removed and start feeling myself again.

I had my mirena removed about one week ago after a year and a half of having it in. my doctor had told me that I would have no side effects as it only dispersed hormones locally. My experience was very different! The most noticeable were: immediate weight gain (10pounds in 6 weeks from inserting it), inability to lose weight with diet and exercise, terrible mood swings and depression for no reason at all, extreme fatigue and lack of energy (I couldn't stay up past 9pm), bad acne, hair loss on my head and increase of facial hair (go figure!), constant bloating (I looked pregnant all the time), definite decrease of libido, nausea (which led me to see many gastro dr's as I was convinced I had a stomach bug), vertigo, terrible discharge...you name it, I've had it. The thing about Mirena is that the side effects are accumulative and subtle to begin with, so it takes a while before you make the association. Since removing it a week ago, I have noticed a major increase in my energy level (I love it! i feel alive again...), increase in libido, sudden disappearance of depression and mood swings, and bloating is gone. I'm happy to have my body back and feel liberated! I replaced mirena with a regular Copper IUD. In the past I've had increased bleeding during periods with the copper IUD but I'll have that any day compared with my experience with Mirena. The doctor that removed it for me told me that she never advises woman to use mirena unless they have a medical problem such as fybroids, very heavy periods etc...Mirena is used as a cure for these conditions. Her reasoning is that if you are a healthy woman with no hormonal problems, why would you ingest hormones into your body in this manner and mess with your system? The fact that periods stop with mirena means that hormones are all over your system... I advise all women to listen to their bodies...you know better then any doctor if a contraceptive is right for you. There are always other options for you if you are not happy.
