I was diagnosed with a bronchial infection 8 days ago and was prescribed the generic form of Biaxin, Clarithromycin (500 MG tablets). About 3 days into treatment, I started having a bad taste in my mouth. I can brush my teeth and rinse with mouthwash, but it still lingers. When I cough, it tastes like it comes up with my cough.

I have an already sensitive stomach, but have had problems every day since starting on the Clarithromycin. I've been taking it each time with food and/or milk, so my stomach is not empty.

On Day 3 of taking this medicine, I ran a fever of 102 and thought I had the flu. However, the fever went away the next day and I was just left with the already existing croupy cough.

I'm now on Day 8 and still have the lingering bad taste and stomach issues. I can't wait to be done with this drug! In the future, I'll be sure to get something other than Biaxin/Clarithromycin!

I was diagnosed with a bronchial infection 1 week ago today. I was prescribed Clarithromycin (500 MG tablets) and Advair. About 3 days into treatment, I started having a bad taste in my mouth. In the last 4 days, the taste seems to be getting worse. I've also been feeling jittery, my heart feels like it's racing and I keep a dull headache. On the 3rd day of taking this combo, I ran a fever between 101.3 and 102.3. I thought I had the flu, but the fever broke with some Tylenol and never came back. I was told I did not have the flu, although my husband and son both got it 2 and 3 days later. After a week of taking medications for an infection, I would think I'd be feeling better, but I'm not. I have 2 more days left of the Clarithromycin, but I'm not sure I want to continue. I think I'll probably cut out the Advair first and see what effect that has on me.

What brought me to this site is the fact that I have a bitter taste in my mouth that gradually occurred since I have been on Simvastatin 40 mg for about three weeks. I have also noticed a strange burning/numbness in my heels only, which has also been gradual. I feel more sleepy most days and not what I would call fatigued, but just like I don't feel like doing anything. I eat more just to try to get the taste out of my mouth and don't feel like exercising. I also finally went back to my Pilates class and felt unbalanced when trying some simple stretches. I usually have excellent balance. I guess my question is: Are these things related, and are they going to just get worse?

I am 56 years old and was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes a year and half ago. It was in the borderline stage but I was experiencing severe symptoms such as: intense hunger, blurred vision, and fainting spells. After a lot of begging, my doctor finally put me on Metformin.

Unfortunately, my diabetes went coo-coo on me last April and I got very sick. My glucose was at 465. I could not drink enough water, could not sleep, bad taste in my mouth, I thought that I was going blind, and I was urinating every 2, 3 minutes. I lost 31 pounds just in that short time. But thank God I started to recover end of June.

The most strange thing happened to my vision though. I had been wearing glasses for the last 20 years and now my vision is crispy clear. I do not wear glasses anymore.

I have depression, digestive problems, very bad constipation. For 2 long weeks, the Metformin could not bring my glucose down from 465, and therefore, my doctor gave me some samples of Januvia. Since I started taking the Januvia I noticed my constipation was getting worse so much that I had to take Mylanta to make me go. My stomach is engulfed with air/gas, and gaining the weight back.

I just picked up a complete new prescription of Januvia yesterday. I started this new prescription yesterday in addition to the Metformin and took one pill this morning. As I am typing this message, I am about to throw up, my stomach is so bloated and heavy I can barely move. I only have between 2 to 3 hours of sleep if I'm lucky.

And my question is, why does this medication is still on the market if it is so bad? Simple, there are many of these doctors on the payrol of these drug companies to push these drugs down their patient's throats. Keep in mind that Januvia is a very expensive drug so these doctors do get big cuts from the drug companies.

Only a few doctors who are still really abiding by the code of ethics by looking after the best interest of patients while for many other doctors it's all about the bottom line.

I'm so glad that discovered this site. Thanks to all of you. From this moment forward, no more Januvia for me.

OMG I have never felt so bad on a drug as I have on Biaxin. I have taken it for 6 days now and am going to stop taking it because I just can't stand the headaches anymore. My cough has gotten worse instead of better, I have the bad taste in my mouth too but the worst is the debilitating headaches. I can't do anything because my head hurts so bad. Feels like a migraine, with the light sensitivity etc.

I hate this drug and will NEVER go on it again!! Just hope the side effects go away reasonable quick.

hello- I had Mirena inserted the beginning of December- 10 weeks after the birth of my second child.
I have had natural childbirth- I know what pain is... but I handle it well. I found the procedure to be uncomfortable but bearable- just a slight pinch from the device the doctor described as a grappling hook (nice hu?) grabbing hold to keep my cervix open for insertion- my uterus is tipped slightly back, so he had to go around the corner so to say..
I had cramps fairly bad afterwards, enough to take Motrin, and I don't like taking Ibuprofen because is causes a bad taste in my mouth while on it...(odd but true) I had heavy bleeding lasted about 7 days... but continued to spot, then came what I believe to be a period- as I had horrible cramps and the bleeding got very heavy again - more than any period Ive had before.. more like after having a child bleeding, I hear many women mention a smell- that I have noticed as well.. not horrible- but enough to suspect infection- so I go tot Doctors on the 26th of Dec. I get a nurse pract. because my OB is away for some reason. She looks at me like Im crazy when I tell her how Im experiencing stabbing pains like its poking me, and Im bleeding more than I expected and the severe cramping is unbearable at timesl.. she tells me " wait it out.. it will settle in, take 600 mg of Ibuprofen 4 times a day for 7 days - the cramping should subside. I don't recommend taking it out this soon, it would be a painful procedure and you would need to schedule with your regular ob and he wont be back until next week" she prescribed some Lortab for the pain , and I made an appointment for the next week with my OB. To my bad luck, the weather played a harsh role in not making that appointment ( our area has declared a state of emergency due to the mass snowfall in such a short amount of time) I was literally snowed in for four days. So I missed the appointment, and by then Im not cramping as bad.. I had been taking the ibuprofen as recommended- even though everything I taste and smell is nasty because of it... and Im still spotting- it tapers off to brownish or pinkish like I might be stopping- then whamp- bright red or dark again- and Jan 3rd I started another cycle I believe, another heavy gross period, only I don't have cramps as bad until day 5- then I was back to taking 1/2 a lortab again just so I could function( though not very alert being on hyrocodone ) about 10 days into the most recent cycle the bleeding went back to spotting and color fading, but then yesterday It started dark red again, I think I made the decision to have the Mirena removed when I woke up in severe pain at 4:00 am this morning- I felt like I was being stabbed in the uterus- pain as bad as labor pains, I went to take some Ibuprofen and found myself getting dizzy- my ears began to ring, I got weak and collapsed on the floor in a hot flash/ cold sweat. I drug myself to the kitchen sink when I felt the wave of nausea coming, and vomited.. it was everything I had to stay upright and finish puking, then collapsed on the floor again and waited for the ringing and cold sweat to subside. I crawled into bed once I was able to , and tried to concentrate on the pain flowing out of me ( Im a big believer in the power of thought) I used this technique in labor and it does help, but labor pain is something you KNOW is temporary and will go away, this pain is of unknown origin (save for knowing about the foreign object in my uterus) and you don't know if its going to go away... so needless to say, hard to block out of your mind with the power of thought..
I am not cramping as bad now this afternoon, but regardless I made an appointment for Friday to have this thing removed.
I have also experienced symptoms of depression and overwhelming anger during the time I have had Mirena, like most women- easy to contribute to lack of sleep and getting back to life as normal with a baby.. but the rage for no reason- snapping at the slightest irritant.. being pissed at yourself for being too tired to do housework or go to the grocery store. Having debilitating cramps doesn't help- and a severe back ache- sometimes a xiadic nerve feeling from the pelvis- down into your legs... Im glad Im doing something about it before the side effects have long term repercussions.. like - this is a great birth control because you don't have sex - because you DON'T WANT TO or cant because it HURTS too much or your bleeding all the time! My husband said to me the other night he'd go find action elsewhere If Im not willing or able to keep him happy in bed .. isn't that nice?
Just a note to all you women who's husbands put up with your mood swings and or lack of action in bed, - that your men showed compassion and sensitivity towards your pain - you are lucky, and your men are honorable. We don't all have such caring people in our lives. I wish my husband had an ounce of compassion for what Im going through .. instead all the comment I get is "go get that bitching bleeding device taken out of you!" sigh...
I hope I feel better soon.

I am on the lisinopril and hydrochlorothiazide combined pill. I take two a day, which is 40 mg of lisinopril and 50 mg of hydrochlorothiazide. I have been on the medication for about a year, but about a month ago I started experiencing horrible nausea and a bad taste in my mouth. I also had very bad dizzy spells, to the point I nearly fell down several times. I went to my medical practitioner, who is an FNMP, and she said I had ear wax and that was what was causing the problems. Cleaned out my ears, pronounced me well and sent me home. I don't think she really listened to me, because I work in the medical field and never in my life had I heard of ear wax causing vertigo, dizziness, and profound nausea. Maybe an ear disorder. At any rate, I stopped the medicine and all the symptoms disappeared within a few days. I went to see my neurologist yesterday and my BP was 162./102. I told him about the problem with my BP medication and he told me to go home and immediately take the medication and call the doctor Monday to get the medicine changed. So I went home, took only one pill, and the symptoms immediately returned. I will just have to die of a stroke between now and Monday because I am never taking this medication again. Why don't medical practitioners listen?

Like many patients, I started out on a low dose of Lamictal. Eventually, I was taking 300 mg. This seemed fine for awhile. Then, I started feeling a bit down, so the doctor increased the dose to 400 mg. Increased dosage does not necessarily mean improvement in mood (bipolar). I began to experience a good number of the adverse side effects reported here, including excessive fatigue, gastrointestinal disturbances, cotton mouth and very bad taste in my mouth, muscle tension (particularly in my legs), forgetfulness and confusion, and sinus and chest congestion. At one point in time, I even had difficulty articulating words.

Though I did not suffer from rash, I have been up in the middle of the night with itching all over my body. I had a few episodes of mouth sores and one pimple on my chin. Many of these have improved since the doctor brought me back to 300 mg. However, they have not entirely disappeared. I continue to suffer from the excessive fatigue many of you have reported here.

I recently had a blood test and learned I have very low levels of Vitamin D and Vitamin B-12. I do not know if there is any relationship between long-term use of Lamical and these test results. However, I do know that low levels of Vitamin D can cause fatigue.

Though I am willing to follow through with further blood tests, I am beginning to understand why some people are tempted to discontinue their medications. I am so tired of being so tired and sleeping so much. When I finally get up, I am still tired and drag through the day.

Sometimes, I think I'd rather have a down day or two than take this medication. I should add, though, that my bipolar is not severe, and that I am only reporting how I feel. I'm certainly not recommending anyone discontinue medications for this or any other condition they may be suffering from. If I were to recommend anything, it would be to get a second opinion if one is concerned about his or her treatment.
If I were to make any suggestion to doctors, it would be this: more is not necessarily better. Send your patients for blood tests (mine were ordered by my M.D. and not by my psychiatrist). Increasing the dosage--at least of Lamictal--might result in a host of negative side effects. Your patients might then become disillusioned with their treatment and give up.

If anyone out there has suffered from B-12 and D deficiencies, let me know. I'll let you know what I find out.

And remember, most doctors are really trying to help us.

I've been on Trileptal for about a month now and am up to 900 mg, though I expect to come down from this dose because of the dizziness it causes. I am also troubled by a numb tongue, bad taste in my mouth, and swollen lips. One thing I'm experiencing that I haven't read about yet is an increase in the white part of certain fingernails--the white area at the tips of both ring fingers has doubled. At first I thought this might be due to kidney disease, but now I'm wondering if it's simply due to decreased blood supply to my fingers, which do feel a little numb. I'd appreciate anyone's feedback on this.

I have been taking femcon fe for about a month. A week before i was supposed to start taking my brown inactive pills, i passed out and had what they call convulsive syncope. I had an EEG and MRI done to rule out a seizure. Both came back normal. I have experienced anxiety, passing out, muscle twitching, nausea, headaches, a bad taste in my mouth, low sex drive, dizziness, stomach pains, fear and fatigue. I did not have any of these side effects before I started taking Femcon FE. I am going to continue taking another month of this pill to see if the side effects are still there. I just wanted to let everyone know what i have experienced in case someone else has had the same thing happen to them.

I went on Prednisone for only 3 days as treatment to a bad allergic reaction to antibiotics. I ended up in the ER for treatment of the allergic reaction and they gave me a pred IV. They put me on 80 mg tablets, which I was supposed to take for 5 days, but there was no tapering off called for by the doc. I only took it for 3 days and started bad abdominal cramps and a bad taste in my mouth. Everything tasted extremely salty--and still does almost a week later. After I was off the drug for a day or two I started bad cramping in my chest, trouble breathing even though they said my lungs were clear, and really bad anxiety, which I've never had before. I freaked out while I was driving and had to pull into a parking lot for over an hour, and still had bad anxiety trying to drive home. I felt like I was drowning and had labored breathing. It's been almost a week and I still have muscle cramping in my chest, but it's starting to subside if I stay calm. I now have headaches and am weak generally, but am starting to come out of it, I think. I don't think the docs wanted to admit that lot of this was due to the pred; it is a serious drug that should not be taken lightly. I never knew there could be such extreme side effects to a drug. I am sorry to hear that many of you have had similar experiences, but it does give me some comfort to know that these effects were real and not due to some psychosomatic problem.

For a year or so I took a HALF of a Diovan 320/HCT25 tablet
twice a day. It worked just fine. It controlled my blood pleasure. Now I am taking a Diovan 160/12.5 tablet twice daily
and I am experiencing new side effects that are very bothersome. My mouth is very dry and and a very bad taste in my mouth.
Question: Can there be any difference at all between taking half of the 320/25 and a whole one of 160/12/5 ?
Thank you. Erica

I was prescribed Biaxin 500 mg, for bronchitis, to be taken twice a day on 2/26/08. It is now 2/29/08 and I have not had relief from a massive headache which occurred within 2 hours of taking my first dose of Biaxin. And even worse, I still do not have any relief from my original illness. I have had bronchitis many times before and have always been prescribed Azithromycin, which cleared up my infection and I started feeling at least a bit of improvement within 24 hours. Along with the severe headache I am experiencing a bad taste in my mouth that won't go away, as well as sleeplessness, tremors and numbness in my extremities.

I am back once again and taking Yasmin is not cutting it. I am suffering from high blood pressure which I had never had, severe migraine headaches, vomiting, a lot of nausea, stomach pains, mental depression, extreme fatigue, I am always thirsty no matter how many bottle of waters I go through Iam still thirsty. I have a very bad taste in my mouth and I find myself brushing my teeth and chewing gum numerous times during the day. At times I experience dizziness, the foods I love I now hate, and I told my doctor all these symptoms and the only thing she told me was this is normal. what kind of crap is this and why is this product still on the market.

The other really bad side effect which I forgot to mention was constantly feeling thirsty, but no matter how much water I drink, it doesn't make a difference. I also noticed a bad taste in my mouth since I started taking Yasmin. I was brushing my teeth 5 times a day but as soon as I brush them, the bad taste comes back. I wanted to go on the pill b/c I have really painful periods and am prone to ovarian cysts, but for me, this is even worse than bad periods. I think the only way to know is to try it, b/c I do have friends who use it and like it, but for me, it had very negative side effects.

Currently on Biaxin XL on a 10-day medication for a Pneumonia infection. Experiencing: increased heart rate, sweating all day long with no fever “Chills” and a bad taste in my mouth.
A possible side effect that concerns me is I have been sweating “night and day sweats” all day long with no fever, since I started BIAXIN XL, I asked my Dr. and I was told sweating helps the body to get rid of bacteria but today is my 8 day of sweating, Strange !!!!
I have never had a problem with side effects in the past on any medication!!!
Anyone else experiencing sweating? Your comments will be appreciated!!!! Thanks,

Being a registered nurse, I know that all medications have potential for side effects. And with this type of forum, it is important to know that people who do not have side effects often don't write in BLOGS so there is a very biased view of the totallity of effects. Having said that, I've been on Biaxin XL for 4 days. This medication has really messed with my stomach since day 1. Starting day 2 was the night sweats and vivid nightmares. Nighmares puts it lightly- it was more like night panic. Day 3 started with diarrhea. So now I'm at day 4 with all my sweat, shakes, nausea, cramps, diarrhea and I can't wait to go to bed to have more nightmares. What can happen to me next?

I dont think I will take anymore of these pills what do you think? I took only 1 pill will I have lasting effects from it?? Still have bad taste in mouth.

I just want to sleep!!! I've been taking Biaxon for four days. There is a bad taste in my mouth but not too bad. Sometines my throat feels strange. It's as though my wind pipe wants to close up. This doesn't last long and I wonder if it's anxiety...I've never experienced this with any other med. I have an aweful ear infection and plan to suffer through these side effects unless they worsen. I just wish I could sleep...I don't know how I'll work tom.

I'm on my second day of Biaxin. I have chronic sinusitus & am currently being checked for sinus cysts.
I have never had so many side effects from a drug before.. I was given Biaxin as a last resort because nothing else seems to work.

On the first day, I noticed a tightness in my chest, similar to a mild asthma attack. Later in the evening I kept having premature heartbeats (which isn't entirely unusual for me, but I haven't had them in a long time). Then I noticed this really bad metallic taste in my mouth like pennies & earwax.. really gross. And it got steadily worse until I felt like I was going to be sick. Also I couldn't get to sleep until the early hours of the morning. Another strange side effect is vivid, strange dreams.. no nightmares so far. My sister is also taking this and we compared dreams in the morning.
Now it's the second day and I still have the bad taste in my mouth, along with a strange giddiness. And lastly, nausea and headaches.
