I've been taking Zoloft for about a week now and just started having headaches (pressure behind my eyes and at the base of my skull). Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Prescribed Bactrim for MRSA skin infection on my arm that I picked up at my local gym. Day 1 OK, Day 2 severe headache at the base of my skull. Day 3 continued headache, general nausea, gas. Day 4 I began to develop a low grade fever and dizziness. Almost passed out after walking just a half mile. Still a severe headache, weakness. Day 5 Headache, consistent fever of 103, chills and muscle aches, light hives visible, weakness, unable to sleep. Day 6 early am, couldn't sleep all night, went to the ER with the worst muscle aches and fever I have ever had. Hives now very clear and pronounced all over my torso. I was tested for the flu. Said it was not, but was a viral infection that was attacking my muscles. Muscle breakdown found in both blood and urine samples. ER physician changed medication to Clindamycin HCL. Told to stop Bactrim, but thought what I had was viral, not a reaction to the Bactrim. I continues to feel bad for a couple more days, but hives started to reduce, fever diminished and started to feel halfway human after being off Bactrim for a couple of days. Still not 100%. New med has it's issues too (have to take every 6 hours, can't lay down after taking it) and a nasty taste in mouth and stomach upset, loose stool. After 5 days of new med went back to my doctor. A secondary infection had set up in the Staph area. The fungal infection needed a different med. Now is 4 weeks later, after finishing all meds, still have an infection. Blood cultures taken to see if the infection is the staph or fungal. I have lost 8lb, have no taste buds, loose stool, severe stomach cramps/burning (now taking Activia to put back good bacteria in my stomach...no one told me to do this before!!). If Staph not gone, need IV antibiotic for a month. I am 50 year old female, but note I had taken this in my 30's without any problems. You can develop an allergic reaction to medicines previously OK for you. Beware of Bactrim. It kicked my behind!

This medication works well for back pain and as a bonus helps my worn knee due to its favored use as climbing stairs with left side cramps my back on up to the base of my skull and I would have to leave work early and I need money this has helped put in many 10 12 hour days it does boost heartburn sometimes though the benefit outweighs the heartburn for now.

Hi,

I started Yasmin generic (ocella) 3 weeks ago. After a few days I developed a headache that feels like constant pressure around my temples, eyebrows and in between nose. It does not go away with pain killers. I have no history of reoccurring headaches and when I have gotten one advil usually takes care of it.

After 2 weeks I decided to stop Ocella to see if that was the reason. I still have the headache a week later. I went to the dr. yesterday and he said it wasn't a sinus headache which I thought it might be. He said it might be a migraine even though it doesn't sound like a typical one. If it doesn't go away this weekend I'll have to get a Cat scan and maybe MRI. Does this sound familiar to anyone who got headaches from Yasmin? My dr. said BCP wouldn't cause a headache but several people on this site described it as a side effect. Input much appreciated.

Thanks!
C.

i've been on bactrim dm for about a week now (2 doses/day for 14 days) for a possible MRSA infection (should know the results tomorrow...hopefully). about 2 or 3 days into it, i felt extremely lethargic and achy (all my joints were sore and almost 'warm'). woke up in the middle of the night a few days ago with my entire tongue feeling numb and the base of my skull hurting like hell and my lymph nodes on the back of my neck swelling and sore to the touch. since then, i've had chronic pain in this area. after reading some of the posts here, i decided to stop my dose until i could speak to my doctor since i wasn't able to speak to him yet today, i decided to resume bactrim until i can get on something else. it's a terrible feeling being trapped between treatment for a potential MRSA infection and stopping treatment because of the possibility of serious side effects. i just took another dose moments ago and am honestly worried i've made a mistake. but what choice do i have when faced with the possibility of an infection that is also very serious? i can't do nothing...

i honestly don't have a lot of options with a MRSA infection...i see people on here mentioning cipro or levaquin, but these also have tons of posts on here about crazy side effects.

this past week has been a living nightmare...

i hope those of you who have experienced such terrible problems with bactrim will find something that helps you...

Well, I am so glad that I read these responses. I have had the absolute worst headache for 1 week now. It is miserable. It is on the right side of my head and goes down behind my right ear. I have even been so concerned about it that I had a CT scan of my head done. It was a pain like I have never had before. I was on the NuvaRing for two weeks and when I went for my yearly, after complaining of the headache, she yanked that sucker out. I have still yet to start a period 4 days after the fact, and welcome it with open arms. Hopefully when this hormone is out of my body, my so called "hormone induced migraine" will leave me. Lortab doesn't even subside the pain. UGH>

My 16 year old son took Levaquin 6 months ago and had a bad reaction to it. His symptoms were severe muscle weakness (he would get exhausted walking from the parking lot to a store and back, severe joint pain (in thumbs, wrists, elbows, knees, and ankles), dizziness (he felt like the room was moving away from him and would lose balance), and headaches (a severe pressure in the back of his head that was constant and then shooting pains in his his head that would come and go for no reason). I should say he was in top shape before this and wrestling in the 125 pound category. He took Levaquin to prevent an infection after sinus surgery.

Now 6 months later, his joint pain is completely gone except for his knees. They still hurt when he does squats and they are not good enough for him to go back to wrestling, but he can walk around pain free. His dizziness is also gone as well as his muscle weakness. His headaches are still there and still constant, but not as bad as they once were; however, he has had them 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for 6 months. He is on Lyrica which has helped make the headaches subside.

I have taken him to more than 16 medical doctors of all specialties, had multiple MRIs, CT Scans, blood tests, spinal tap, and an MRA. All come back negative. Thankfully, despite all of this, he still remains happy and positive that he will once again be 100% healthy; it will take lots of time, but he will get better. I know the first three symptoms (joint pain, dizziness, weakness) are clearly Levaquin related, but I haven't heard much about the headaches from people. Anyone else out there that has suffered from a constant headache after Levaquin? I REALLY want to hear about headaches from others!!!!

By the way, we have filed a medwatch already. I also know that Levaquin is not approved for anyone under 18 years old and he never needed such a powerful drug to prevent an infection, but there is nothing I can do about that now except to warn others. One of his UCLA doctors wants to write a case study on him to make this more known to others and I am helping him with that.

If anyone has questions, please feel free to ask. If you have had a headache from Levaquin, please let me know where in the head the pain was, if it is constant, what it feels like (pressure, shooting, throbbing), how long you have had it, and what, if anything, helped. THANKS.

I'm in my ninth day of a ten day regimen of Levaquin for treatment of a sinus infection. I suppose I have fared better than most on this board. I Googled Levaquin and ringing ears due to a recent onset of that symptom. I have also had a mild, nagging headache at the base of my skull or upper neck. I have also experienced a slight queasiness in the past two days, but nothing close to nausea. The past three nights, I have had unusually vivid dreams, although I don't recall any of them being what I would describe as nightmares. Finally, in the past two days, I have experienced what I can only describe as deja vu kind of feelings throughout the day. My symptoms have increased somewhat during the past several days, but none could be described as severe. I guess I will take my final dose and hope for the best, but I will probably try to avoid this drug in the future.

I take Zoloft for depression and Anxiety. I was increased to 200mg about 1 month ago. Recently, I have been having headaches (pressure behind eyes) and at the base of my skull, along with shakiness and diarrhea. Is this caused by the increase in Zoloft?

Hi,

I had a systemic allergic reaction to an allergy injection. I was treated at the hospital with Benadryl and Prednisone. I was told to continue to take both, but still was having problems with sinus inflammation related to the reaction a day later. I saw my Dr. who told me to up the Prednisone and start taking Singulair.

Well I started having side effects worse than the sinus inflammation I originally had within a few hours of taking the Singulair. I totally chalked them up to Prednisone side effects, since that drug has so many issues. But the side effects were different than those listed from Prednisone, and different from the last time I had to take Prednisone for an allergy attack. I had INTENSE head pressure (not just the sinuses, but everywhere), muscle tightness/pressure in my neck muscles and at the base of my skull. I don't know if this was a side effect or not, but I had freezing hands and feet, also VERY cold.. except my face was hot. I also got hot flushes occasionally in my body, like on the backs of my thighs. I also felt "out of it".. very dizzy and slow to respond. I was also very confused by why my sinus inflammation was not really responding to the Prednisone since it is such a strong anti-inflammatory. Well, I stopped taking the Singulair last night after reading this site, and I am feeling back to normal! Even my sinuses have unplugged. I suppose this could all be something besides the Singulair, but I am not chancing it again.

I was diagnosed with bilateral ear infections and was prescribed 500mg Levaquin ( because I am allergic to most penicillin-based products) once a day for one week. On the fourth day I began to experience stiffness and pain in both feet, especially the heels, and also in my calves, and knees. I also had pain in my neck, at the base of my skull. These symptoms proceeded to worsen to the the point that I could barely walk on Sunday and had to go up and down stairs two feet at a time. I worked from home yesterday and took a Naproxen because the pain and stiffness was so debilitating. Today the symptoms have somewhat subsided, but I still feel stiff and can't walk or climb stairs very well. I was so deparate to figure out what was wrong with me and entered all search words that applied to my problem to Google. My search return included numerous sites connecting these symptoms with Levaquin. I found the PI and it is true. I have to say I feel better just knowing why this happened. I never suspected that the antibiotic was responsible. My question is this: has anyone else ever had this happen to them and what were you advised to do to "get back to normal"? I hope that these responses to the medication will go away now that I have finished the prescription. Please advise.
Ruth

I thought I had a kidney stone, now after a month of feeling very sick I finally went to the ER. I was told I was dehydrated and had a temperature of 103. After a CAT Scan I found that I had a kindey stone and a kidney infection. I was prescribed Vicodin for pain and Levaquin 500MG for the infection. I have taken one a day for seven days and have 4 left. I stopped taking the Vicodin because I didn't like the way I was feeling. That has helped but now I am feeling bad in different ways. I sometimes have a steady pain in my heart which seems to extend down into my stomache. Which seems odd to me and my neck is killing me. It is like I slept on it wrong but rather than at one angle or in spot it is my entire neck, right up into the base of my skull. About 4:30 a.m. this morning I woke up feeling very sick to my stomache and hot. I woke up several times last night hot, sweating hot, which was very uncomfortable. I am not even sure any of this is from the Levaquin but it's very uncomfortable and a kind of scary. My heart rate also seems high and I just don't feel right.

I started Levaquin 500mg 5 days ago for bronchitis/pneumonia. Well today I did not take the medication because within the hour after taking it I have a tuff time breathing when moving around. I now have upper front pain in my thighs and around my hips, I have a feeling of heaviness and tightness across the breast area of my chest, my throat has this sense of fullness that comes and goes and I have a uncomfortable feeling in the base of my skull, my fingers at times feel like the circulation has been cut off and then it goes away, my heart feels like it is racing or not beating right. I have this thought in my head the last 2 days as to whether I should go to the emergency room because I am not sure now if it is my heart.

I started taking Yasmin 9 days ago. I have been moody and depressed since the first day but kept thinking it would get better. I suffer from migraines once or twice a month but am usually able to function. Since I began the Yasmin I have had HORRID migraines every day and since yesterday I have had trouble breathing, chest pain and a very strange pain in the base of my skull that when I move my head causes me to be dizzy. Has anyone else ever had these problems? I am beginning to be scared and am thinking I might not take them anymore.

I'd had a bad experience with Avalox so when my OB wanted me to take Levaquin for a possible infection I called to ask whether this was a good idea since they are from the same drug family. She told me to do it and against my better judgment I complied. Side effects: dizziness, feeling drowsy/drunk, nausea, insomnia, vivid nightmarish dreams, and most alarmingly, a burning sensation (on my skin and in my joints) at the top of my spine/base of my skull that started around the 3rd day of taking it. That's when I checked the internet for others' experiences, freaked out, and told my OB that I was simply not going to take another dose. Please RESEARCH this drug and any possible alternatives before taking it!

I also had raspy voice and minor sore throat. I gained 10 lbs in 30 days. I had a horrible time sleeping and it progressly got worse by the day. I quit taking it and after a week, I am slowly getting to sleep a little better. Having a problem with sore neck at the base of my skull. Not sure if this is related but it started a couple weeks after taking advair.

I just finished three epidural injections for pain & numbness due to herniated & bulging cervical discs. Kenalog was injected.
I have felt just terrible since mid-week of the first injection ! I have had severe fluid retention. In addition to the retention I also get up 4-5 times per night to urinate with no change in the fluid retention! My abdomen and stomach are distended and very uncomfortable especially after meals. I now have an uncontrollable appetite & eat incessantly. I feel huge! My thirst has increased. I have night sweats. My breasts have been very sore. I am irritable, fatigued, bloated. I have moon face! My neck pain is now constant at the base of my skull with intense pressure, especially when I lie down. Obviously, I do not sleep well. My legs, ankles & fingers are especially swollen.
I wish I had never had the injections of Kenalog. Compared to the side effects I am experiencing from Kenalog, I would have lived with the discomfort and numbness!
What is the time this takes to get out of my system & I can expect to get back to normal?

I took Yasmin 28 for 4 days. I felt nausea, extremely dry mouth, thirstiness, fatigue and at the same time I felt wired. I think the scariest thing was the numbness in my left leg that woke me up at 4:30 in the morning. I also had tingling in my left arm and up the left side of my neck to the base of my skull. I am getting off these things!!
