I can't believe this!! I was searching the internet to see if there were any side effects from the mirena as one gets closer to the end of the Mirena life and I came across this site. I'm so blown away. I am getting my Mirena taken out in a week because it's been 5 years that I've had it in and I NEVER realized all the problems I've been having in my life was because of the IUD!! This whole time I thought it was just me and I was going crazy. So looking back on the last five years it's all making sense to me! Not only was the pain so unbearable getting it in, but the pain in my abdomen was so bad for 2 weeks straight, and no let up with the pain, that I almost passed out from it. My horrible boyfriend at the time told me suck it up. I said a prayer one night praying for the pain to go away and that if wasn't gone by the morning I was going to go get it taken out! I woke the next day and the pain was gone. But this wasn't the end. I developed depression ( I thought it might have been because of the crazy relationship I was in) which I'm STILL prescribed for and I also severe anxiety attacks, which I NEVER had before in my life! dizziness, lower backaches, crying fits, extreme fatigue and copious amount of hair loss, right around my hairline. I used to have lustrious hair which I had to have two hairties in to hold it up, now I can use a tiny little jaw clip to hold it all up!!. Never in my wildest dreams did I think it was because of the Mirena. I thought how great it was that I got it put in and didn't have to worry about it for another 5 years, since I have a terrible time taking regular contraceptive pills ait the same time every day. My memory has definitely been affected and another symptom I never thought would be possible is the weight gain. A year ago I was diagnosed to be Pre-Diabetic and have had to change my diet and exercise. You think I would have lost the weight, NO, quite the opposite I have actually gained more weight. I have little to NO sex drive and I USED to have a very high sex drive. Now this is all making sense to me. I really wish I had found this site sooner! Like 5 years ago!!! So thank god I am getting this thing taken out of me next week. I am opting to get a diaphragm fitted and getting all these harmonies out of my system, maybe I'll go back to being my old self! (tears in eyes as I am typing this!!! ) All these years....who would've known. I am still in shock!!!!!

I'm 25, and I have never used bc. I was given this from my gyno. because my bf kept taking off his thingy. So the first day, the very first day my hair started to come out. I gave it two weeks, and threw it in the garbage. I had hair falling out everywhere, I had EVERY side effect listed. My vision was also screwed up. I didn't know what the hell was going on with me. My bf broke up with me, my moods were crazy, my boobs hurt, i had cramps, heavy bleeding, nausea, all i wanted to do was eat food, stomach pains, depression, anxiety, a headache, I was dizzy to the point were I just wanted to start crying, I even had the shits...This pill is a joke. I can deal with minor things like spotting, and I realize it takes 3 months for your body to adjust, but I couldn't even take it for 2 weeks. I did notice that if you take vitamins, the side effects were better.. but still my heart hurt so much I thought, holy crap, I'm going to have a mini-stroke at the age of 25. I am so thankful to god that I found this site and I could read other people's stories. I really think the idea of bc is wonderful, but until they make a pill that my body will accept- I'll stick with condoms, they have worked so far, I would even go on to say, I rather never have sex again then to go through the toll of this pill. This should have never been put on the market.

I have been on the ring for 4 years now, and I haven't really experienced all these crazy side effects. I do have headaches, loss of energy, mood swings, decreased sex drive (which doesn't stop me anyway). Its all the same bull****. It really is true that everybody is different, but seriously, ALL forms of birth control WILL give you some kind of side effects. we are ruining our bodys natural order buy consuming these dangerous hormones. All because we want to have lots of sex without the troubles of a baby. Its a choice and a risk that we are taking. Now after reading all these scary things, its making me thing if I should switch. But how am i supposed to know if taking a different BC is going to make it better. its just going to be another batch of side effects. And is it really healthy to keep switching to diff BCs? A part of me wants to change BCs but another part of me loves it. I guess Im just scared of ALL birth control.

I must say I love the NuvaRing. I've been on it for almost 3 years. It is extremely convenient. I do have some issues with weight and depression, but I've had those for a while so I don't think I can blame them on NuvaRing. I was previously on Depo for 3 years, and before that various pills (which I could never remember to take). I loved the Depo for it's convenience, but I think it caused a lot more weight gain and loss of sex drive than any other birth control method I've tried. I also tri-cycle my rings (I only have my period after every third ring cycle). The less periods the better in my opinion. I have very very light bleeding during my period. The only drawback is I have one day of horrible cramps that I never used to have. I just take some Ibuprofen and remember that it's only one day every three months.

Unfortunately I have crappy health insurance that won't cover NuvaRing, so I'm thinking about switching to Mirena. I'll miss the Ring, but hopefully Mirena will be good to me.

I've been on the NuvaRing for three weeks now -- was prescribed it for endometriosis. BCs are usually hard on my body -- emotionally, physically -- but they do control the extreme pain i get during my periods so i keep trying new ones. this shit is crazy, though -- want the meds to find out how to heal endo without adding fake hormones to my body.

side effects with NuvaRing I've experienced so far are a lot. had my first anxiety attack last night and it was severe. i cried for hours, then called a friend so she could rope me back into reality. felt suicidal before i called her -- then called her -- because i knew there was no trigger, and needed to hear somebody's voice.

also - insomnia. an inability to regulate what i eat - i am an athlete and take extremely god care of my body -- no chemicals in the food, no sugar, no dairy -- but lately i can't seem to stop eating, anything, everything. it's weird. vaginal discharge (it doesn't hurt, just a little gunky). headaches like I've never felt before. cramping like crazy, which is ironic, since I'm on the damn thing mostly so i can stop the pain of cramping.

i know we're supposed to suffer in silence for another couple of months until the hormones become synthesized into our bodies, but this really isn't working for me. ladies, listen to your bodies. ESPECIALLY if there is no medical reason for you to be taking this, or any other BC that causes you to suffer, stay off of it.

and good luck to everybody.

I've just started using Loestrin 24 Fe in mid December and I'm in the first week of my 2nd pack. I only looked it up to find out what it's cost is. My gyn's office gave me 3 sample packs. Most times new BCs are not covered by insurance and yeah, I don't want to pay $50+ for a new fancy pill! ;) In searching I found this site and read the post. I find them very interesting and enlightening! Yesterday and today I've felt 'blah'. I attributed it to not getting my paycheck on time (that would set anyone off!) and having to rearrange some things. Well there's a lot more important things going out there than my vanity! lol But yet I can't shake the 'blah' feeling. After reading the post of some who are experiencing mood swings and/or depression...I'm starting to think about this pill. I've always had heavy and long periods with cramps, major headaches, fatigue, you name it I get it! After my first pack of L24 for the first time EVER I had a light 3 -4 day period. I did get my normal craps/lower back pain the first day but my second wasn't spent in the bathroom every 20 minutes changing a Tampax as in the past. So that part is great! I was told that I have fibroids and in November I didn't get a period and freaked out. Took a test and it was negative. My period finally came on Dec 1 and with a vengeance! I spotted throughout Dec--probably fibroid related (as that is common I'm told) so when my gyn gave me three sample packs of L24 I started them. It's only my 2nd pack so I will finish it and if I'm still feeling 'blah' I will go back to Trivora and my longer periods. I've always been acne prone as well so I don't know if my breakout is due to L24 or not right now. I will monitor. Weight gain has never been an issue while on any pill but in Dec I was 138 and today (I weighed myself after reading these post! women! ha!) I'm 143. Still in my normal weight at 5'9. I tend to fluctuate with an 8lb range and my appetite is the same--so far. So again I will finish this pack. I don't know if I can switch in the middle of a pack since my period has passed now. I do have a prescription for Trivora and I'm ready to use it should this persist! I'm 42 and I've dealt with my periods all of this time..It's no big thing. I just don't want to bleed in between periods--if it's fibroid related. I'll see my herbalist about that! You know the doctors and pharmaceutical companies seem to be in bed with each other. We've got wonder what is being put into these drugs to alter what our body is supposed to do naturally. But what's a girl to do! :)

I was on Yasmin for a few years and never had any of these symptoms. as far as decreased libido this is common with almost all birth control pills and all other pills have the blood clot risk as well, the majority of the pills have very similar side effects. Before Yasmin I was on ortho tri cyclen and that was a big mistake it really messed up my emotions and threw me into a big depression. I know quite a few other people on Yasmin who have not experienced any of the side effects listed and love it. I only switched form Yasmin because there is no generic and it was too expensive so I switched to another low dose that had a generic and to be honest I miss Yasmin.

As others have pointed out, BCs affect everyone differently. Before my children, I took Ortho Tri-Cyclen without incident. Loved it. Then after my children, I had a tubal ligation and was not on BC for over 7 years. But due to the onset of adult acne and extremely oily skin, I asked my GYN to put me on Yasmin to clear up my face and chest. What a disaster that was!! The first two months were OK, but the next five months were agonizing. My symptoms included significant weight gain (15 pounds), larger but painful breasts, sleeplessness, anxiety, anger/irritability (more than my normal septic self), heavy spotting between periods, slight vaginal dryness and an unpleasant body odor. I quit the pill this past September out of sheer frustration. The interesting part was that I did not tell my husband that I quit taking them and he asked me about a month later if I was still taking them. I answered no and he said that he could tell because now I smelled and tasted "normal". So ladies, be aware that aside from the anger issues, your partner may be suffering in other ways. I'd rather have blemished skin than deal with the side effects. And now that I have been over 3 months free of BCs (I am not taking any chances with trying others), I lost almost ten pounds and all of the weird smell. My period is longer than I'd like but has gone back to normal and although my skin is still very oily, I have found a facial product to combat the acne. Email me if you liked because there is more to this story than I have time to write.

I left for Mexico a couple of days after I posted that last (Aug. 2) msg. and just returned a few days ago. I stopped taking lisinopril for about a week and a half and without question i felt much better all the way around. I didn't take any substitute after stopping the med and 3 days ago my bp is high again... 152/96 sigh. I started taking the med again but cut it in half bcs I refurse to feel the way I felt before. Well my friends, my bp is in control again with only half of the dosage (about 5mg now). To my dissapointment, i begin to experience those side effects again! ... even with only half the dosage! I've gotta switch to something else. I was on Atenolol before the doc switched it to lisinopril. I've been quite athletic all my teen and adult years and my heart rate is normally lower than average, and the atenolol dropped my heart rate too low, so the doc recommended lisi. My bp problem is mostly genetic, my Dad passed away when he was only 44...his bp was over 200 / 100 teens when he passed out and never regained consciousness. I was only 6 then ... now I'm 48.

I have actually been on Nuvaring for over 2 years and I love it. I like the security of not needing to take a pill the same time everyday (i'm in constant fear of getting pregnant). I did experience some of the side effects posted on this message board, but most of them were in the first 4 months and went away after that. The most memorable side effect was moodiness - the slightest thing would make me sensitive and cry. My bf thought i was crazy. I continue to get migraines occasionally but I had them before i started BC in general. My only complaints are the continued vaginal discharge and the dwindled sex drive, although I hear that is not uncommon for most BCs.

I just googled to see if my symptoms were abnormal or if it were something other than Yasmin that causes my symptoms, but now reading this I think I need to make some changes in my birth control.
I have been on Yasmin since I married in aug of 2005 and every since then I have had migraine headaches, frequent trips to the bathroom, weight gain, depression, dizziness, and even vomiting.

So I guess I need to change my BCs, any suggestions?

I've been on several different bcs in the past years. If you are like myself I'm prone to hair loss when my hormone levels are out of whack. My doctor switched me to Yasmin becaus the hormones are derived from something other then testosterone. And guess what ~ I'm a 22 year old with quite a few noticable bald spots! Time for yet another bc switch!
