hello friends, I had the Mirena put in 08/08 and shortly there after started feeling depressed, moody and tired and started shedding my hair. Lost my mom about 2 months later so I chalked these symptoms up to that. then I got scalp psoriasis, and have no family history of psoriasis period, even though it is supposed to be genetic. I finally found this sight 3 months ago, and had it removed promptly. Wanted to let you all know I am feeling a lot more normal now. The only thing that is not going away is the scalp psoriasis and the hair shedding......I swear I am going bald. Can anyone tell me when their hair stopped falling out and/or if anyone else has had psoriasis with this beast as well? Thank you and good luck to everyone who has this.

Since I had Mirena put in I have had nothing but problems. I originally had it put in sometime in October of 08 around 7 weeks after I had my first baby. My husband could feel it during sex and I was constantly bleeding. In March, I went into my OB and she said it was placed too low so she took it out and put a new one in. It never hurt to have the first one put in or taken out or to have the second one put in. No more bleeding....BUT....since I had the first one put in, I am a different person. I have mood swings everyday, I have NO patience for anyone, I'm absolutely exhausted, I get head aches, I have acne which I didn't even get as a teenager, I can't lose the weight I've gained (I lost the baby weight plus some before I had Mirena put in), my vision gets blurry, I have extreme pain in my abdomen, NO sex drive, and I think the list could go on and on. I was on anti depressants before getting pregnant and after so I thought I just needed a stronger one, but after researching it, I know it's the Mirena. Due to the pain in my abdomen, I have been through blood work, regular ultrasound, pelvic ultrasound and a flexible sigmoidoscopy!!! I have an appt tomorrow to get the BEAST removed and I can't wait to be back to normal. Just so you know, my OB said you can't have sex 7 days prior to the removal because there is a slight chance you could get pregnant...FYI. I'll post after the removal:)

I'm at the end of my 2nd pack of Yasmin and I'm having trouble figuring out these side-effects. My acne is getting slightly better and I didn't get any cramps like I did when I was on tricyclen low. But I've gained probably about 10 pounds and I feel full/bloated all the time. I've never in my life had trouble with weight until I started the pill. I feel like I'm never hungry anymore, yet I still eat like a beast (I don't really know if this is important but I also burp all the time now which is rare for me, I used to have trouble even if I tried to. I know this is something stupid to mention). Second, I've been noticing my mood is not like it used to be. I have moments where I'm fine but then all of a sudden I feel really down and I've had random moments where I want to cry for no real reason. But I sometimes wonder if it's the effect of the pill or maybe I'm bummed out about the less fortunate things happening in my life. My weight gain isn't making things better for the mood. A lot of times I'm sad and I don't really understand why and no matter what I do to try to pick myself up there's a slump. Please help me I can't figure out if it's just me or the pill might have something to do with it.

Has everyone developed breast lumps. I have one removed already and diagnosed with fibroses of the beast. My doctor said it is normal for older women, well I am 25(an exception according to doctors). I have been on nuvaring for 7 years and have no family history of any breast issues. Every doctor advised to stay on the ring since they believe my breast lumps are not related.

I, too, felt FINE in the beginning. I thought it was so wonderful not to have to worry about taking a pill or anything!
What an amazing invention!
My sister was so gung-ho about it, I didn't want to tell her that my Mirena was giving me trouble. Well, I wanted to add one more post because today she called and I asked her about her Mirena.
She said, "Oh, I had mine removed WEEKS AGO!"
She, too, was having the same trouble as MOST OF US!

Never sleeping through the night w/out getting up to pee.

Getting mad at her kids for no reason.

Being TIRED all the time. Waking up not feeling RESTED.

Blurred vision, assuming her contacts were just messed up.

She had stabbing pains in her side... turns out the Mirena was cock-eyed and GREW into her UTERINE WALL... when they tried to remove it, it was stuck there. Luckily, the nurse gave it a good YANK and it came out, but it was definitely painful. She feels the pain still because it is still healing.

These are only a few of the side effects. It hadn't even occurred to me that my legs, too, are COVERED in BRUISES and I could never figure out where they came from.

I, too, have had burning and tight eyeballs. I NEVER wear my contacts anymore, because I constantly feel like I've had no sleep. I had to buy a SLEEP AID so I could try to get some good sleep!

Without getting TOO personal, I also understand why the Mirena is so effective. It's because you're too TIRED to want to be close to your husband, and you just want to be left ALONE all the time. (Not to mention, he won't want to get near the mega-beast anyway!)

My sister (before having her Mirena removed) also thought something was wrong with her health. So her doctor recommended she get her blood tested. Well, of course, everything came back perfectly healthy! Go figure! Well, she says that most of these symptoms are GONE since the removal. I have to wait another MONTH before getting mine out, since my doctor is going on vacation. But I feel better already, just knowing that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I hope you will consider these things, because so many of us have had the same things happen to us! And life is too short to let ONE DAY be ruined unnecessarily!!

RE: Anastasia01 who posted below....

Sounds to me like the Mirena may be affecting YOU. We know how you feel hon. Its hard to be pleasant and positive while on the Mirena. We too said ugly things while on the "beast". If this is the way you have always been even prior to insertion, then perhaps it is you who is "pre-mental" or "bi-polar". Best wishes to you and yours and have a GREAT day!! :)

My first post was yesterday. Today I called my doctor and got an appt for 2:15. I went to work for a 1/2 day...Cried most of the time in my office. Barely got through the 1/2 day. Cried most of the way to the Dr.'s. She finally saw me at about 4:00ish. I was crying hysterically... I think I scared her. Her first question was...are you suicidal...I said NO! But what was going on was UNCONTROLLABLE and NOT ME!!!! She didn't think it could be the Mirena but I insisted it had to be! She agreed to take The Beast Mirena out! Thank you God! It hurt a little bit but was over quickly. She gave me an anti-anxiety prescription because it will take awhile for my body to even back out she said. I was so relieved! I had two crying episodes on the way to the pharmacy. I have not taken the meds as I am alone with my three children and I don't want to chance any more problems without another adult with me. It's is about 2 hours after the removal....and guess what ladies....I am already feeling an improvement. Knock on wood...We'll see what the rest of the night brings. I do have some cramping and area pain. Gonna go pop a Motrin! I am so happy...you'll never know! Too bad for Valentine's Day though! I was hoping this year would be a nice one since I haven't had one since my Husband passed away in 1997...OH WELL...

I was taking Zyrtec every day for the last 3-4 weeks. It is the best OTC medication for my mild, but annoying allergies. I stopped taking it yesterday for the first time and had the worst migraine with nausea and vomiting that I've ever experienced in my life. I didn't take it again today. I'm feeling a migraine coming on, and would rather take the Zytec than go through that experience again.

I had mirena inserted today and I feel awful. The pain was worse then labor, and I had drug free labor and births. My husband literally had to carry from the car to the house. I wish I would have found this site before today. Do any of you know if I can have it removed as soon as tomorrow? After reading all the horrible experiences, I am to paranoid to keep it in. Thanks for any input.

I had my Mirena removed 6-25-08. I only got it in March. I have had one problem after another. I had a weird bulge under my breasts that stuck out further than them when I decided it has to go. That bulge disappeared the day after having it removed. I also had MAJOR hair loss, fingers twitching, joint pain, migraines, my face looked greasy an hour after washing, and visual disturbances where I actually felt like I was seeing through drunk eyes, especially at work. This thing should be off the market. I feel 99.9% better than I did a week ago. Oh, I'm also not a turbo bitch to everyone anymore either. I am actually pleasant to be around. It was the best decision ever made to get this beast out of me. What a waste of money though!! Good luck to everyone else.

I took Aldactone for several years. Feb. 2008, my OB/GYN found a cyst on my left ovary (after I had a period at age 62). I asked to go to an endocrinologist for a consultation, and after he asked me several questions about what I could be eating to have extra estrogen, he stated that Aldactone can cause excess breast tissue in men and ovarian cysts in women. The aldactone also caused my beast to be tight and full and I had not idea where that was coming from. After I stopped the Aldactone, the fullness in my breasts went away.

I would like to add my experience which has only been 3 weeks so far and I can tell you I have had the following symptoms with Yaz:

1. DAILY - EXTREME MOOD / ANGER ISSUES
2. DAILY - STOMACH CRAMPS
3. DAILY - NAUSEATED
4. DAILY - INSOMNIA
5. FREQUENT - HEADACHES
6. FREQUENT - BODY / JOINT ACHES
7. CONSTANT - PERIOD SINCE I HAVE STARTED - SO FAR A 3 WEEK PERIOD WITH NO ENDING TO SHOW SO FAR.

I switched to Yaz from LoEstrin and will be switching back immediately - seeing my GYNO tomorrow to get my old prescription so I can have a light 3-4 day period with minimal side effects - I never realized how good I had it with my old bc pill (for heavy bleeding only) until I tried YAZ! I hope this help others know that you are not alone as I realized that too after reading the previous posts. Thank You Ladies for sharing - you helped me and my family see that I'm really not a BEAST of ANGER after all! I miss my ability to be patient. I just threw away the rest of my YAZ pack - to never take it again. Best of Luck to those who want to try it and can be successful with them.

Just an update about the class action suit discussed previously, and Aamaya had provided us with the Florida attorney, Justin Wikin: I got a letter in the mail yesterday stating that they would not be pursuing suit against them. They said that they deal mainly with wrongful death cases and it does not mean that the case does not have merit, just that it is not their specialty. I will be doing some research here locally in Ohio to see if I can locate a practice to pursue this. If anyone comes up with something, please let us all know.

I started taking two 160mg tablets of sulfameth a day about a week ago in conjunction with prednisone and hydroxyzine for a bad case of contact dermititis. Yesterday I woke up with a crazy fever, pressure in my sinuses and headache. I got off work and went to sleep at 5:30pm. Around 9pm I woke up covered in hives. The fever had broke, but this was a new beast. The hives started out all over, but there were not many. Over the next 24 hrs they spread so that now I am mostly a giant red splotch. It itches like hell and for some damn reason I feel wired. I can't get to sleep. I keep pacing around.

I went to the ER and they said it was probably the sulfameth. They told me to discontinue use and put me on a higher dose of prednisone, zantac and diphenhydramine.

I am almost sure it was the sulfameth. I have been on prednisone before without anything like this happening. I have never taken the sulfameth before this and I rarely took the hydroxyzine they gave me so I doubt it caused it.

The reaction to the sulfameth is seriously 100 times worse then what they gave it to me for. I would rather have just not gone to the doctor and suffered through what I had before than deal with this. It's a sleepless, itching hell. I will never take a sulfa drug again.

I can only wonder how bad it would have been had I not already been on prednisone when the allergic reaction hit. So 24 hrs into it and the hives are getting worse. Hopefully the prednisone and benadryl will end it soon.

I have had Mirena for one month. I have been bleeding for 3 weeks. And now it has gotten really bad. I bleed through a super tampon in 3 hrs. I have never had periods like this. And all this blood! Where is it all coming from? I also have had almost daily headaches since it was put in. I really wish I would have looked into this more carefully. My husband and I have no insurance and have to pay for the birth of our 2 month old out of pocket. So I thought spending $650.00 on this would be better in the long run b/c it lasts five years. If this bleeding and headaches don't change, I'm taking this beast out and will pay $40.00 a month for the ring.

I found this site the other day as I was looking around the internet to see if other people had been experiencing severe bloating and weight gain. OMG- I can not believe how many other side effects I have and did not realize they all began after the insertion of Mirena.
My story- I had Mirena inserted 2 months ago. I decided to go off birth control as I have been on it for so many years. I was not having a period on the birth control and thought my body needed a break from it. The DR recommended Mirena and was very excited for me to try it. I googled Mirena before I had it inserted and it seemed like it would be great.Let's start with the insertion....THE MOST PAINFUL THING EVER! The DR told me that my cervix was on the smaller side of small (I have no children) and he seemed stressed when he was putting it in because he had a very hard time placing it. They ended up giving me a local and that did help numb the area, however it did not help much. I left the office like feeling terrible. My cramps were so severe that I went home and immediately went to bed. The cramps lasted for days and I spotted quite heavily.
After the initial pain, I then noticed I was bloated. I don't mean a little bloated- I mean it looks like I ate about 12 pizzas and drank 5 cases of beer. It was insane. The bloating continued to stay with me and my tummy was very sensitive-- kind of like "don't touch me there" kind of feeling.
Then I began to notice I was gaining weight. I gave up fast food and was eating healthier than I had in ages. I started thinking-- well, maybe I am getting older and my metabolism is slowing down? I am almost 39 and just was not sure if that was it. Cut to my pants getting tighter and tighter and me asking myself-- "what the heck is going on here?"
I then recently had this flu that has been going around and after day 10 of it went to the DR. Well, we all know they want to weigh you for EVERYTHING....so they did and I couldnt believe how much I weighed! I have gained about 10 pounds since this was inserted!
Now, it may sound vain, but i thought i would go on line and see if anyone else had this bloating and weight gain. I thought this HAD to be what was happening as it was the only thing that had changed in the last 3 months.
What I found astonished me....not only are you all gaining weight, experiencing bloating...BUT all these other side effects that I have also and didn't realize they also came on after the insertion of Mirena!
I have: bloating, weight gain, migraines, severe night sweats, tender breasts, insomnia, increased anxiety and heart palps, mood swings, PMS like nobodies business, painful intercourse ( I thought this would go away and never did), loss of sex drive, acne on my chest, back, neck & ears; spotting that last for days and days. These are all things I NEVER had before Mirena. I am totally freaked out now and made an appt to have this little demon removed!
I am nervous to have it removed as it was SO TERRIBLY painful to put in. I would love feedback from anyone that has had it out-- good or bad.
I can not believe how many side effects I have from this thing. I have been on Birth Control for so many years and NOTHING has ever done all this to me.
And the icing on the cake...the DR had me pay upfront for the insertion- $700 or so before they billed insurance. My insurance did end up covering it but still after 3 mos I have yet to see the reimbursement check from the Dr's office. That was a first for me-- paying up front and then billing my insurance. They say they do it with all IUD's because not ever insurance carrier covers them...yeah right. Prob because so many people have them removed so quickly after that they want their money straight away!
We are newlyweds (less than 1 year) and although we are on the fence if we want children, I would like our marriage to be strong. Having this thing sure doesn't help-- I am a bitch, I don't want to be touched, I am so drenched in sweat when I wake up, I have acne, I am getting chubby, and to top it off I have no sex drive and I am moody. My poor husband-- he is probably thinking "what the heck did I sign up for??!!!"
Thank you to all that have posted. I can see that I am not alone!!

I began using Nuvaring last year at around this time, and it was great for a while. Then I started getting yeast infections. And more yeast infections. In fact, they still haven't gone away, even though I switched birth control about 5 months ago. I've talked with two friends and they had the same problem. I have to take yogurt supplements up to 4 times per day to even function. Diflucan doesn't work, neither do the most commonly sold creams (Monistat, etc). I'm about to try a new remedy that worked for them and got rid of their chronic post-Nuvaring "beast infection" (what I have come to call it). It's gynazole cream 2 times for one week followed by 2-3 weeks of boric acid suppositories. Stay the heck away from Nuvaring, and warn all your friends. There's no excuse for them missing this hideous, miserable side effect.

I have been on Lisinopril now for 4 months. I developed a terrible dry cough, I suffered a heat stroke after only being outside for about 45 minutes, I have episodes of what I call "Brain Freezes", when my brain will not think and I cannot talk. All these things happened while being on Lisinopril.
Only yesterday did I find out the terrible side effects associated with this drug. I have had abnormal Blood tests. In fact they are fearing that I have Lymphocytic Leukemeia.

This drug causes increase in WBC, dry cough, extreme sensitivity to heat and to sun, mental changes.
This is not a fit drug for man nor beast.
My face and eyes stay extremely puffy all the time , which is another side effect.
I refuse to take this drug any longer and will be seeing my MD. on wednesday. If he should refuse to beleive my symptoms are related to this partioculr medication, then I suppose I will find another MD.
After all our MD's. work for us. We are the boss and anyone whose Md. refuses to accept your symptoms as a side effect of this drug is not a good Md.
Find another Doctor and tkae control of your life. You know how you feel, and you know if something isn't right.
