My doctor prescribed Avelox 400 mg tablets to treat pneumonia. I was warned by the pharmacist not to take it with my morning vitamins, so I took it 1/2 hour before bed time - needless to say I hardly slept. I started itching all over, my arms started tingling, my heart was racing a hundred miles an hour. Believe it or not I took another one the next night, and yep it happened again, I thought I was dying. My blood pressure dropped to 99/78 and my pulse was 50 - my normal vitals are 120/60, and pulse is 95. It seemed that within minutes my pulse jumped to 115 and my pressure was 138/90. I guess that is what an anxiety attach feels like. Then to top it all off, it felt like someone was pouring water in my veins, this feeling of rushing water ran from my fingers up my arms in into my shoulders then my heart would jump again; I had weakness is my legs and felt nausea the entire next day. I contacted my doctor with no return call, so I discontinued the medication. I do not believe the benefits of this medication out weigh the side effects. I will not ever take this medicine again. I will pray for healing for all of you, God bless and keep smiling.

The pill form isn't all that bad- just take one before bed time and soon after you wake up you'll go. The suppositories on the other hand.... WOAH! I tried one and 5 minutes later not only was my rectum burning but I had abdominal cramps something fierce!!!! I had to take Pepto to ease the pain!

I've been on 75 mg of Topamax twice a day since the end of April 2009. While on it there would be nights when, just before falling asleep, my mind would begin to race. All too often the thoughts would be angry thoughts at persons who hadn't really wronged me. These racing thoughts would continue for sometime until I would finally get up with a headache. I would take aspirin for the headache and read for a half hour or so, go back to bed and sleep soundly the rest of the night. When I awoke the next morning, I was wasted, as though I hadn't had a full night's sleep. - like the time my mind spent racing was spent fully awake. And, should those racing thoughts been angry thoughts, they would be shown to be totally unfounded in the morning. Note this does not happen every night and does not necessary happen at bed time. It may occur if I arise to use the bathroom during the middle of the night. It also may not be related to Topamax, but it ONLY started after I began taking that drug.

Wow, is all I can say. I just found this website this past Thursday morning before going to my Doctor. I am off it now and back on Diovan thanks to this forum. Here's my story... I switched from taking Diovan to Lisinopril-hctz about 3 months ago because it was way cheaper. I started getting a mild runny nose, and cough that didn't go a way.It was getting harder to sleep as the days went by. I tried sinus, allergy, cold, and cough medicine with nothing helping. I went to a different doctor at a local after hours clinic and they gave me a steroid shot for allergies. I have never had allergies all my life. I am 36 yrs old and work outside for a living. I knew something was wrong and started to get a little worried. I went back to see my main Doctor on May 5th and he switched me from Lisinopril-Hctz to 30mg of Lisinopril because I thought I was going to the bathroom more often. I questioned the side effects again and was told you just get a dry cough and what I had is allergies and gave me a prescription for Astelin. Not long after, my hell began. I started having the EXTREME coughing, gagging until you vomit, stuffy runny nose, and I was starting to get a little anxiety. Not to mentioned scared at this point. I could not sleep at night due to the coughing fits. I would sleep best after I had some drinks at night, so that became my sleep aid. I got a respiratory infection late May and took a Z-pack and Lohist 12d. I got a little better. This past Sat I woke up with a sore throat and something like a cold. Sunday morning I woke up with the sore throat that was worse and a panic attack! I was freaking out, pacing around wanting to go to the ER. It took 3 hrs to calm down and fell asleep. Sunday night anxiety kicked in again at bed time and I didn't know why. I just knew something was very wrong with me and mentally I was losing it. I took some melatonin and still couldn't sleep because of anxiety and coughing. Monday I was afraid of what was going on mentally and started to question if I was safe to be by myself if a bad panic attack occurs. I scheduled an appointment to see my doctor on Thursday. Hoping I could make it till then. Monday night I took a melatonin trying to stay calm and keep anxiety down. Could not sleep, bad coughing and gagging, but started to wind down about 1:30 am when it started. I was laying down making my ears pop/click and for some reason I could not make my right ear pop before my left ear. All the sudden anxiety kicked in full force. It took a long time to calm down that night. I finally did get my right ear popping before the left one. Its sounds funny but it wasn't at that time. It was official, I have lost my mind. I did not sleep at all wed night before my appointment. I did find this website that morning before going and felt better after reading other posts. After talking to him I switched back to Diovan. He still was leaning towards allergies though. He told me to take benadryl at night and claritin during the day and my coughing may take about 4 weeks to see improvements. I had my hopes ups on Thursday, but after reading a lot of posts here I am still discouraged about the outcome. For those of you that had anxiety attacks at night, how long before those stopped? Also how long before the coughing and gagging starts to slow down or end? Is there anybody that stopped taking Lisinopril, but symptoms have not improved? I am glad I found this forum and happy to be back on Diovan. Right now with the way I feel with the sore throat, coughing, gagging, vomiting, sinus pressure, anxiety, I am still unsure on the outcome and what may come next....

I was prescribed Cephalexin for an infection on my leg. After a couple days I had a hard time breathing, felt light headed and like my airway was partially closed off. I was very tired & sick to my stomach. I didn't hardly eat for a couple days because I just wasn't hungry. I skipped my pill at bed time to see what would happen and by the time I woke up I was definitely feeling better, so I didn't finish out the prescription. The infection did go away though.

I am a 31 year old male, in decent shape (play basketball, volleyball, workout at least 3 times a week) but I have a family history of high blood pressure and have had it myself as long as I've been tested. Went to cardiologist as a check up on my slightly enlarged heart, long story short, ended up on Metoprolol (25mg) beginning of 2008 and have been fine but no real help with bp. Then was put Lisinopril (5mg) a few months ago and my blood pressure was great at last checkup. However during that time I had a couple of weeks where I was very dizzy, that sort of feeling your brain is taking a second to keep up with your head as you get up, along with a fogginess and what seemed like sinus issues but I chalked it up to weaning off of a small dosage of Zoloft I had taken for over a year. I also developed "the cough" everyone refers to, but since it is winter in New England I chalked it up to dry heat, even though it was a choking cough unlike any I've ever had before. Also during that time I seemed to completely lose my sex drive, again figuring it was just something to do with the Zoloft or general anxiety. Then in the past week I started getting a constant headache, having really interrupted sleep, very foggy and out of it, tired, dehydrated, constipation, nausea, all things that I would normally associate with allergies or some kind of sinus/flu, but yet I couldn't really pinpoint anything that would be causing it.
Then I finally started looking up things about the meds I was taking and came upon this site, and guess what? Everything and every way I was feeling was described in hundreds and hundreds of posts on this site. I don't think my side affects were quite as strong as some have experienced (for instance the cough is very infrequent, like twice a day) but I have only begun my journey with Lisinopril. So despite the warnings, I decided to stop taking it a few nights ago, and almost instantly I began feeling better the next day and since then.
I have since called my cardiologist and he has recommended I switch to Diovan, basically saying that based just on the cough symptom alone, he wants me off of Lisinopril as this is a known side affect. Now I am left debating whether or not I want to continue down this path of trying different combinations of pills to poison my body in order to lower my bp. It seems like others have noted marked differences between taking Diovan and Lisinopril, where the Diovan has been much more tolerable than Lisinopril (with a great decrease in any side-affects) but I'm 31 and although I know it will be very difficult to reduce my bp on my own (believe me, I've tried) maybe I'm too young to start with the "last resort" of these toxins. Just reading about the possibility that Lisinopril was robbing my body of zinc or other minerals, so that my immune system is greatly weakened, likely being the cause for most of the symptoms, is enough to ward me off of pills altogether. It's a sad statement on the state of health care in America when I am left to basically make such an important decision on my own, because I can't trust that my doctors aren't just working in the interest of the drug companies to boost their income. I don't want to have to choose between a silent killer and a horrible existence filled with "side-affects".
In the end, based on some of the reports on here, I think starting on 40mg of Diovan will be fine, but I will certainly be VERY wary of anything unusual and immediately find other options.

It seems most people on here are blaming their "side effects" on the medicine. Could you quite possibly have health issues anyway? what about those people that don't take Singulair and have the exact same symptoms? Is it because they are THINKING about it?
It's one thing to be informed about medication. It's another to go overboard.

This spray has saved my marriage. I only use it once in each nostril at bed time and it is enough relief to get me through the night without struggling to breathe and waking up my light-sleeping husband. As it says to only use for 3 days, I had some concern about side effects and dependency, but after almost 3 weeks of this once a day dosing, I have no complaints to report. I still haven't shaken my sinus infection, but it is much abated and I continue to use alcohol and neti pots to rinse and moisture my sinuses. One of my biggest downfalls is my failure to consume enough fluids, which exacerbates the sinus infections. I work at it, but it is hard for me to drink when I am not thirsty.

I have been on Seroquel for three days now...tonight will be my third night taking it and so far I've had severe persistent sore throat, stuffy nose ] and my eyes have been so itchy. I'm pretty sure it's just a cold going around but those are also very important side effects and I've already called my doctor about it and he also said it was just something going around. I have noticed I've been hungry, hungry, hungry and I eat A TON already as it is. I'm 110 lbs and I eat like a horse, I always have, even before I started the medication. I'm 5'1" and now I'm worried I'm going to blow up to the size of a house! I can't monitor how much I eat because I eat so much as it is. I do, somewhat, somewhat remember eating a block of cheese last night before bed time. I know why they say to take it before bedtime!! It knocks me out. Which is bad because I have a 17 month old who still wakes up around 4-5ish in the morning. His bedroom is right across the hall from ours and we have his door cracked open an inch and we leave ours halfway open so we can hear him. I am usually a light sleeper but last night I noticed that it sounded like he was across the street, I could hardly hear him. I'm surprised I even made it out of bed, got him and brought him back to our bed without running into something or dropping him. It's scary. It really is. My doctor is giving it to me to treat my mood swings. I'm hoping they don't do diagnose me with bipolar disorder like they've talked about when I was a teen. I have had some tachycardia but I also have a heart problem I was born with that has been pretty messed up for over a week--I started having premature ventricular contractions, but this was before I started the medication. I am actually wearing an EKG-like monitor during the day to record this...this has nothing to do with the medicine but I thought I'd through it in there in case they decided it is. I talked to my cardiologist today and told her I was on this medication. Well, it's about 8:17 here and I need to go take the medicine and hit the sack...goodnight.

This medication literally might have saved my life. After a death of a close family member I literally feel like I went crazy. I would pace, be restless, feel dead, not be able to sleep, no appetite, weight loss, cry randomly, cry uncontrollably, feel like i was going to die and had urges to commit myself to a hospital I was so scared.
My doc prescribed me 0.5 to take as needed. Well, for me that as needed is every day for the last few weeks. I can't do without it, though I would like to eventually, hopefully soon.
The only side effect I notice is that it makes me even more tired than I already am, but that's why they sometimes say take it at bedtime. Well, if you have anxiety, you know that it doesn't just come at bedtime, so it can be difficult to really want to do anything if you take it in the morning or during the day, but I found that if you take half then it's not as bad, so take half during the day, and half before bed time.

I have been taking Remeron for about a year and a half. I started out with
30mg at bed time. It helped eating habits and helped me sleep. However I started gaining Weight big time. I am a 52 year old male and weighed 130 Pounds before taking the medication. I now weigh 196 pounds and have cysts on both of my breasts. I went to see a cancer clinic and was told there was no cancer ! Thank GOD , However the doctor told me it was a possible side effect of the Remeron. So I stopped taking Remeron cold turkey
2 day's ago and so far so good. I hope I don't have any withdrawal from stopping but I WILL NEVER TAKE IT AGAIN !!!!!!

OMG -I'm 47 and I've been on for 6 months now and I've had a hunch for a few weeks but never thought I'd find this!! I was on Hydrochlorothiazide for 1 wk-had cramps in my toes so Dr. immediately took me off even though I said I felt great-but peed a lot!- He said this would be better for me..... EVERYTHING I've been feeling is the same as you.......I've just not been able to put my finger on it - I just felt "different", I thought it was me and I was getting "old" with a nagging tinkling cough, at the worst time "bed time"...ruins any sex life! I had fatigue, problems concentrating, headaches- back of my head, blurred vision- my eyes would kinda fog over- scared me to death so had tests but all was ok), I've been getting that "bummed out feeling" & didn't feel like doing anything but I've always loved Summer and Fall - going to the beach, riding motorcycles, swimming, my garden and to be outside, but now I kind of force myself to do. Then just this past week I've been feeling sick and nauseated, with an acid reflux vomit feeling and I've just had enough.......There are way tooo many coincidences here....... I have to get off of this stuff!!

I had extreme anxiety so the dr. gave me .5 Ativan. i have been taking it for a month now 2 times a day. it worked great up until last Friday. Since then my heart has been pounding and i have extreme anxiety again, not as bad because i still am taking the meds but the rapid heart beat has taken over my life right now. I can't sleep, eat, concentrate on television. i barely go to work. I don't know what to do. Another doctor i went and saw told me that Ativan is only used temporary and that if you keep using it as a long term thing you are going to have to keep uping the doses and depend on it more and more until you go to the highest dose and it dosent help at all. Now I am scared about depending on them and not being able to get off them. PLEASE SOMEONE HELP. i need some help through this.
i am going to a therapist and all she can say is practice deep breathing so it doesn't really work 100% for me.

My father who is going to be 80 on July 15th started taking remeron back in January of 2008 for depression he was in and out hospital and rehab since October. He almost died in October but he fought his way and hes physically doing better now. He was put on remeron cuz his depression was so bad that he just wante to give up, he started on half a pill at bed time..(7.5 i believe) he was doing his exercises and again..he bounced back from a deep depression within days :) February 7th 2008 my dad finally came home after being away for 4months he became very very talkative like hyper, couldn't sleep and got agitated very easily(thats not my dad) on June 18th 2008 the doctor that comes to the house asked what was going on..i told her HES NOT SLEEPING..and hes very like hyper, so she INCREASED HIS REMERON!!! full dose 15mg. well.. July 2nd things changed for the worse, He talked about things that happened years ago, he went as far back as the days of THE DEPRESSION..yeaaaars ago;
just things he never talked bout before...July 3rd he was showing signs of being VERY LOST..VERY DISORIENTED...like he would get up to use his potty(as he calls it) and thats rite next to his bed, and he went rite past it and into my kitchen way. just standing there, NOT KNOWING WHERE HE WAS. and he would repeat himself over and over and over, not remembering what he said, :( very sad )
The 4th of July i had him taken to the HOSPITAL to be checked out cuz he just wasn't acting right, i thought maybe he was on the verge of another stroke his BP was 150/101 HIGH....i think maybe cuz of the agitation,(HE GOT MAD...DIDN'T WANT TO GO TO THE HOSPITAL: )but i needed to know what was going on..they sent him home, they said possible early dymentia, NOT..i don't agree....june 18th -july 2nd IS EXACTLY 2 WEEKS..WHICH IS HOW LONG IT TAKES FOR MEDICATION TO GET INTO THE SYSTEM...i believe its the REMERON causing these problems.i took him to his psych and he asked my what was it increased? i said the doc increased it cuz he wasn't sleeping, well the psych was NOT HAPPY wit this...he was like U CANT DO THAT ITS NOT FOR SLEEP ITS FOR DEPRESSION..U DO THAT AND UR GONNA HAVE BIG PROBLEMS.... Well thats exactly what we are having. So then i was told to decrease him back down to 7.5 and if no change in a week -2 weeks...to stop it...well im stopping it tonight. I am hoping to see him better soon..if anyone agrees with me PLEASE LET ME KNOW...he was perfectly fine b4 the increase in this medication...BESIDE THE EXCESSIVE TALKING..but i am willing to deal that..i just want him back to the way he was. Its soo frustrating and sad to see him this way :(

In response to Wewe's post, I've been wondering the same thing. Since taking my daughter off Singular almost 2 months ago, I'm seeing a different almost typical kid. Four years ago about 2 months after starting Singular my daughter was diagnosed with anxiety. As her condition got worse she was diagnosed with depression. We started to see OCD and tics so they were added as a diagnosis It was determined that it was related to strep infections so she was diagnosed with PANDAS. She was started on Zoloft and klonidine. The Zoloft made her worse. Her fears of hurting herself got so intrusive she was hospitalized. Her cholesterol was high too. The Zoloft was discontinued and Prozac was started. She's had therapy all 4 years. She also neede physical therapy due to muscle and joint pain. Now she's doing better, off Singular. Does she really have PANDAS, OCD? I don't know. She's still on Prozac, we just did a slight decrease this week. Is this medication the trigger for underlying conditions. Learned behaviors can be unlearned, but are there lasting physical effects? If a gene has been turned on, can it be turned off? I wish we knew the answers to help all of our kids.

update to my 06/17 post:
took 4 Advil before I left the house and then downed a Percocet 15 min. from the office. Knew PAIN would be involved after having a biopsy a few yrs. ago of the ute, AWAKE in the doc. office and was not in the mood for another bout similar to it. I was ready for the removal. First thing off the charts was my blood pressure. 150/100. Explained the cause of a few of my symptoms. Then went through that long laundry list of odd phys. problems since insertion 11/07. She asked me what I wanted to do. Ah, remove it, now please. She did and it DID still hurt. Asked me if I wanted to see it.. ah, no thank you. Scheduled the pre-op for July 7th. Again have to have internal sonogram done of ute and ovaries to see how much she will 'leave me with' when its all said and done. Expect bag of multiple fibroids to the be very least of the removal procedure. Would be very happy to be able to keep at least one ovary. Not sure how cystic they are for that to be possible. Mirena can also cause cysts on the ovaries of which I've already dealt with for the past 25+ yrs. and knowing such I am baffled as to why she didn't warn me about this little side effect. Hoping such cysts haven't ruined my chances of keeping some form of continued hormone secretion naturally.
Bled a bit through-out yesterday. No bleeding at bed time or any today, so far, which is a first since May 22nd. Feeling better in all aspects but not sure if it is actually because the Mirena is out or if my mind is playing games due to the removal. ; ) Will give myself a few weeks now to see how my body changes before the big surgery before I post again. Good luck to all.

I am wondering if I should ask my doc about switching to some thing else.

I began reading all of the blogs about Topamax and was surprised. I have been taking Topamax as a mood stabilizer since February 2007 at 200 mg at bed time (I probably sleep off the fatigue). The only side effect I am concerned about is the weight loss. Short term memory is not an issue. As a matter of fact, I am attend college and am managing a 3.85 gpa. I wish all of you the best of luck and hope you find something that works for you.

I wrote an earlier post but I am now reading alot of your posts where you say your child experienced FEAR on Singulair. That is so interesting. When my son was on it for around 3 years he would never sleep alone in his own bed and he would have episodes every night that would last up to 3 hours at bed time because I would try to get him to sleep in his own bed, even at 8 years old. I thought he was possessed!!!! He would scream and fight me and I would literally have to hold him down to get him to stay in bed. It was horrible. I'm not sure how a hullicination would be described but maybe that was part of it. All I know is that he turned into a totally different child. It was something out of a horror movie. I eventually gave up and let him sleep in our bed cause it was exhausting. He would just make blood curdling screams and the terror in his eyes was horrific. Then the next morning he would be fine like nothing had ever happened.
Now that he is off of Singulair he will sleep in his own bed with the light off all night. It was an amazing turn around. He also told me he's not scarred anymore.. Who knew????? Has anyone else experienced anything like that with their child????

Here is some perspective for you all. I take Singulair and do well on it and in ACTUAL studies it has one of the safest safety records. Understand that post marketing reporting does not mean there is a correlation between the event and the product. Throughout the life of a drug the companies must disclose any report of side effects reported to them REGARDLESS of causality. A popular antihistamine that is OVER THE COUNTER also has suicidal thinking/behavior listed in its post marketing section. However, just because patients who had reported having these thoughts while taking the product doesn't mean it was a result of the product! Maybe they had a depressive personality and were also on multiple other medicines to treat that. You must look at the "Adverse Reactions, Warnings and Precautions" sections of package inserts to see the side effects that were actually seen in studies. You can die from ulcers derived from over use of aspirin or ibuprofen. Decongestants can throw off your blood pressure and these events are documented in actual studies! Listen to your bodies when taking any med. If you feel differently report it to your doctor.
These are all drugs people, there are potential side effects. There are also side effects to those "natural" over the counter remedies that are not nearly as regulated by the FDA or studies by the drug companies.
To anyone out there who has experienced side effects to singulair timed to when you started it, talk to your doctor, stop taking it and see if it goes away. Same advice for any product prescription or over the counter medicine. Side effects can be a combination of many factors (what other meds are you taking?) But understand for many people this product is the safest and most effective treatment for them. The FDA and Merck are reviewing all information to see if there is any correlation to the reporting. But singulair been around for about 10 years and prescibed to billions of people and is known to be one of the safer medicines out there overall.
In between the legitimate posts on this site I get the sense there is a lot of ambulance chasing going on. People looking to cash in on this big drug companies. We want drugs, we want them cheap and with no side effects which is not a reality. Keep stepping up the regulation and make the companies hire more lawers to protect themselves and jump through even more hoops and see what happens to the price and access to new meds. Even better, see how regulation has impacted the development of new medicines around the world (here's a tip, it will dramatically decrease). Drug companies certainly aren't perfect but which industry is?
Please, when taking any medicine over the counter, prescription or herbal supplement listen to your bodies to see if the potential benefits of the product outway the risks or side effects. Report any changes to your doctor.

Click on my name and read my other posts! I am wondering after reading soooo many posts, how many of you felt like you couldn't "shut your brain off" when you were trying to sleep? (OR how many of your children described their bed time this way?) The big link seems to be that people (especially kids and teens) are having trouble falling asleep and staying asleep, and that the lack of deep sleep is resulting in most of these mood swings, depression, outbursts, etc... and Singulair is causing this sleeplessness! Sleep deprivation is a form of torture. Singulair causes sleep deprivation; therefore, Singulair =torture! (sorry, merck, but you are reaping profits off our children's suffering!)

Well, night two was really tough. We had our son sleep with us so that we could keep an eye on him during the night and let's just say that my husband and I hardly got any sleep. Our son seemed as if he was going through some crazy detox...he trashed around violently kicking and crying in his sleep. He never actually woke up....he just had these episodes at least three or four times during the night. It was almost impossible to console him during these episodes - it was as if he did not know we were even there. I submitted my original post to Dateline NBC....I think we should all do the same to various news affiliates. Hopefully tonight will be better, my husband is doing our bed-time routine right now.

HI, I was prescribed IC Metoprolol succ er 25 mg. same as Toprol xl. I feel tried, I am a fitness instructor and teach 13 classes a week. 8 aerobic and 5 weight training classes. I continue to gain weight. With this being a blocker, I have just come to find out this med wont let you heart rate go up when you exercise so you muscles can get oxygen and burn fat. The lack of oxygen makes you (us) more tried less motivated to workout or anything for that matter. It has effected me in this matter. I am calling my doctor to change my meds. this website was great. I new It had to be my meds, you don't workout this way and still gain weight!!!!!!!! I have always been very fit and muscular, something i took pride in. now I"m looking flabby. It"s really hard for me. Hard to motivate people when you don"t look like things I share with people all the time. hang in there the weight will come off just be consistent, when I continue to gain weight.

my six year old has been on Adderall xr 10mg for about two months. He gets so upset!!!!! very easy then he cries. He cries so hard sometimes he cant even breath. In school he is doing great still behind academically. He is seeing a neurologist next month to see about a learning disability until then I am very concerned about him getting so up set and crying He even said he didn't think I loved him. That just broke my heart. Before the Meds he had never been like this. As soon as as I held him he calmed right down. I also have a 9yr old that takes 15mg. He suffered a severe Brain injury this past July of 2007 The med is working well with him his Focus. He injured the frontal lobe and right and left side of the brain. If he gets upset it is a bit different too I am assuming it is more the injury I am not sure He is definitely not like my six yr old. They both do have a hard time settling down for bed time at night the DR said that was a big side affect and prescribed them both Melatonin 1 hour before bed that seems to help. s any suggestions I am open.

my son has all the symptoms that people have discussed and i would not have found it if he had not hit his head and started to have weird symptoms and after ruling everything out realized that he had been off singular for a month this summer and had started back up. He has had a lot of symptoms but I always thought it was something else. Like everyone said everyone felt that singulair wasn't a problem. I remember when he was little he was having night terrors and the doctor switched it to the day time which made it better but he has always had a hard time sleeping since he started. he has been off it for four days how long does it take before the thoughts come back to normal. If someone could answer it would be great. i am so upset right now as I am sure the other parents are that our children had to go through this.
