I have been on Yaz for 8 months and up until reading this website I thought I was either a) falling apart physically or b) a crazy hypochondriac!
I have had severe GI issues (gas, bloating, constipation, diahrrea etc.), headaches, neck pain, irrational irritibility, depression, anxiety, dizzy spells, unexplained weight gain (about 10 pounds, especially in the belly area), COMPLETE loss of sex drive, vaginal dryness, lack of ability to become aroused and if I do delayed orgasm (20-30 or stimulation before I can climax), fatigue and insomnia, skin rashes, shortness of breath, decreased immunity etc.
I am stopping this pill tonight after reading all of these other entries confirming the fact that I am not crazy!

I am 36 yrs old and have had the Mirena for 7 months now. I spotted for 4 months straight. I noticed my body odor has changed, I switched deodorant and my natural female scent has also changed. I have gained about 5 pounds since all in my belly area. My body aches and feels stiff all the time. It is worse in the morning. I sometime feel dizzy for a day or to but it does pass. My eyes felt funny too, like I couldn't concentrate while I was reading, almost jittery feeling. At 4 months I was feeling anxious all of a sudden. I was nervous about nothing in general, nothing had changed in my life. I felt like I couldn't breath, short of breath. I also wasn't sleeping well or much. Couldn't fall asleep or stay asleep. My doctor checked my blood and everything was normal. He couldn't explain any of my symptoms. I hadn't at that time linked it to the Mirena. I saw a Natropath who put me on vit B6, omega 3-6-9 and a muscle spasm reliever.
I was feeling better for maybe 1 1/2 months. But now at 7 months post
insertion I am feeling anxious/nervous again. I feel like I can't breath. I feel
worse when I am quiet or relaxing. I am going to make an appointment with
my doctor to speak with him about having it removed. I hope these feeling
go away asap. Along with the other myriad of problems.

In addition to the rather common occurrence of the sweats, I have gained 30+ pounds since commencing a Lupron intermittent protocol. The majority of the weight gain has manifested itself in my stomach. My appetite has not increased or if so, not significantly. I exercise regularly and in most cases, aggressive exercises. I have carefully monitored my diet and have been unable to shed any weight or stomach mass.

I had my Mirena put in April 2007 and I can honestly say I cannot see how this device was ever approved by the medical community. I suffered so many of the side effects you women speak of, and primarily the excessive fatigue. I have been high energy my whole life and needing one or two naps a day because I was falling asleep in my own home walking around was ridiculous. I had weight gain I couldn't explain, despite working out and eating healthy. My skin was dry to the point it was flaking off of my hands in some places. I've never had acne, and didn't know how to deal with that everywhere! I already have palpitations so the extra palpitations caused by the Mirena freaked me out. My face swelled, my ankles swelled, I was dizzy, and I couldn't think straight at all. I also suffered a numbness in my toes at one point, I attributed it to an athletic injury but now I realize it was probably related as well. The past year I had Mirena I had numerous colds and flu's, and usually I'm a fairly healthy person!!!
I had the Mirena removed 6 days ago and I cannot tell you how much better I feel. My thoughts are totally lucid and I feel a fog has been lifted from my brain. Within days the acne went away, and I could tell the "bloating" was subsiding from my belly area. I did start my cycle two days post removal, which I see is common. I am no longer fatigued or tired and have been really back to my normal self already. I'm already running on my treadmill again, which is something I've been unable to do in over a year because of the fatigue. So there you go..... if you are having problems from head to toe like I was, just get it removed. It's not for you. And by the way, the problems with it didn't start for maybe 3 months after I had it in... so keep your eyes open and be aware and tuned in to your body, ladies.

The bottom line is that every woman is different and every medication will potentially have a different effect on each individual woman. I have been on low dose birth control for 12 years. My most recent was Loestrin 24 Fe which was fabulous, until I started spotting all the time. I was on LE 23 for years before this happened, so I just figured it was time to switch to a new brand. Two of my friends have been on Nuvaring for a long time and loved it. I'm forgetful, so I figured the ring would be a solution to my spotting and forgetfulness. I've been on it 2 months now and haven't noticed headaches or diarrhea or anything like that. But here's the deal - I'M HUNGRY ALL THE TIME and I've been eating to fulfill my hunger. I've gained 7 lbs in two months, which is a lot for someone who works out 5 days a week. The fat in my belly area (which is probably bloating as they call it) is out of control. No matter what I do, I can't make it go away, sit ups, cardio... And sucking in doesn't cut it. It's disgusting. I'm calling my GYN in the am to inquire about switching to a lower dosage option. I don't discourage any of you from changing, because for me it was necessary to make a change, but I'm just warning you to be cautious and ask your GYN if you're switching from a low dose BC to NR. I feel like a cow, right in my midsection. Ugghh! Anyways, hope this was helpful.
