I started taking Levaquin on Saturday for preventive measures for knee surgery. I had taken Keflex the week before and had an allergic reaction to it. Extreme itching on my hands, hips, shoulders and feet. I broke out in hives and my lips, eyes, hands and face swelled up. I quit taking Keflex and then a week later, they started me on Levaquin. So this morning, Tuesday, I had been on Levaquin for 3 days, I woke up feeling fine. I was up for about 10 minutes and the back of my head was itchy. I itched it and noticed that my fingers and hands were starting to swell. I took a sip of coffe and my lips were starting to swell. Within 10 min. I was swollen, itchy, in an extreme cold sweat, my throat was swelling and I could not breath very well. I grabbed my phone and called 911 and I could barely remember my address. I told the dispatcher that I was going to pass out and I did. When I came to I could hear the dispatcher trying to get my attention. When I got back on the phone after passing out, she said paramedics were on the way. They showed up about 2 min. later. My blood pressure was 101/53. I ended up going to the hospital and on the way there, they gave me a shot of epipedirine and benadryl. When I got to the hospital there were 8 people working on me. I got a shot of pepcid and a shot for the rash that was covering 90% of my body. I was still having a hard time understanding questions and was having a hard time staying focused to answer questions. I was in the ER for about 4 1/2 hours for anaphylaxis but they finally got it under control. Now I get to have epi pens to carry around with me since this was such a severe reaction. I was told to look into an allergy screening so I think I might see how much the insurance will pay on that and maybe get that done.

I had a cortisone injection into my left knee on Friday, June 5th and immediately started to react. Within an hour, I had extreme redness and heat in my face, neck and upper chest. Wheezing, hives in throat and mouth and behind my ears. Extreme headache that came on suddenly and started in the back of my head and stretched to the front. Dizziness, chest discomfort. I went to the ER and was given a nebulizer treatment, benadryl IV and prednisone because the doctors at the ER felt that I must have had an allergic reaction to some medication that was mixed with the cortisone injection, because they said that to be allergic to cortisone is very rare. About 20 minutes after they gave me 60mg of oral prednisone, they started my benadryl IV. I felt such a hot rush to my face, my ears were burning. Eventually, the reaction calmed down and they sent me home with a prednisone taper and benadryl every 4 to 6 hrs. Sunday morning, I took 60mg of the prednisone and within 20 minutes I knew that I was in trouble so I took 50mg of benadryl and on the advice of my doctor, called an ambulance. In the ambulance, I was given oxygen, a nebulizer and more benadryl IV. After that morning, I knew that my problem was the steroid. I hadn't had any sleep since Thursday, I had been nauseous ands been battling chest discomfort and a very bad headache. I spoke with my doctor on Monday and he wanted me to take Atarax,25mg, every 3 to 4 hours. I saw him on Tuesday and I went to an allergist on Wednesday. She started me on 50 mg of zyrtec twica a day and 25mg of Atarax at night to see if this would help the reaction that I continue to have. She said that it could be several weeks, at least, that I will continue to react, until the injectable steroid is out of my system. It had been 13 days, and Im still reacting.

I know this sounds ridiculous, but I completely had a paranoia attack and thought someone close to me was stealing from me, which makes absolutely no sense at all.

I also had vividly bad dreams, and I can't usually remember my dreams.

I feel "keyed up" and not in a good way.

I now have to take the day off and try to calm down, close the blinds, lower the lights, and drink tea.

This is not a good medication.

My daughter is 14 years old. She was prescribed Omnicef 300mg 2 capsules 1 time a day for a sinus infection. She had only taken 2 doses. Her side effects were: Nausea, vomiting, fever (102.3), body aches, headache, swallon tongue, her skin was a little yellow, she said her skin felt raw, and she felt like the ruth of her mouth was covered with something. I stopped the medication immediately and called the doctor. They advised me they would pull her chart and have a nurse call me that afternoon. I thought about it for about an hour and called back. I told them that the information sheet states that if you experience any of the side effects to call your Dr. immediately, I told them that immediately meet immediately not later in the afternoon. They then got the Dr. The Dr. advised to stop the meds. (which I already did), and they called her in another perscription. They said it would take 24 to 48 hrs to get out of her system. They also said to use benydryl and that would help to get it out of her system faster and help with some of the side effects. I will keep this medicine in mind to make sure that no one else in my family is ever prescribed this again. She has been one sick little girl. I would not recommed this medicine to anyone.

My daughter, now 6, has taken Singulair on and off for the last 2-3 years for asthma. It works but the side effects are not worth it. My daughter has had encoupresis (severe constipation causing accidents) since starting the drug, as well as mood swings. Because she has also had to take Flovent (also Advair, Pulmicort) and Albuterol we have never been sure which drug was the culprit. We took her off Singulair at the end of the summer in 2006 and kept her on the Flovent and Albuterol (as needed). We got the encoupresis under control and her mood dramatically improved. This January 2007 she started having allergic reactions everyday at school and was going to the school nurse to get Benydryl. We decided to put her back on the Singulair a couple of weeks ago. The encoupresis symptoms have returned and the moodiness is horrible. We are stopping the medicine from now on, does anyone know of an alternative that helps with food, grass and animal allergies??? Thanks for your help.

I was put on SULFAMETH/TRIMETHOPRIM 800/160 TABS for a sinus infection about two weeks ago. I was almost done taking all the pills when I took two Midol (the ladies know why). within an hour, I broke out into hives! At the time, I just assumed it was the midol only; I investigated and it appeared that the diurectic in the Midol caused it. Then I continued my Sulfameth that night and I woke up with worse hives. I called the doctor becuase OTC Benydryl didn't help. She suspected the Sulfameth versus the Midol. Upon my own investigation, I found on MedlinePlus.com that you are supposed to tell your Doctor if you are taking a diurectic before taking the Sulfameth! I will never mix those two again!

My 27 month old son took Omnicef for 8 days for an ear infection. Good news: the infection cleared up...Bad news: He has welts all over his abdomen, as well as some on his ears, head, and legs. We returned to the doctor, and he said that it looked like an allergic reaction, but did not seem to tie it to the Omnicef. We went ahead and stopped administering it anyway. He reccommended Benydryl. Today I talked to the pharmacist, and she reccommended a Cortaid spray, that would help heal from the outside while the Benedryl helped with the reaction. After reading this site, I am worried that this could go on for weeks.

I have been relatively side-effect fee from 160 mg geodon for about a year until I increased dosage to 200 mg. At that point I had agitation, akathisia and a panicky feeling. I am taking benydryl until I can talk to doctor. It cound also be from an anti-depressant Cymbalta which i started to take at the same time as the increased geodon. However, with the Geodon I feel it only covers the symptoms of schizophrenia about 80%. I had many more side effects with about a 40 other neuroleptics.
