All I can say is that when I heard that CIPRO and if I understand correctly LEVAQUIN will now have the "Black Box" warning, I thought THANK GOD. .I wonder how many people are "the box" from the drug and/or from committing suicide from this horrific drug?
THANK YOU, FDA, for listening to those who contacted you via letters and emails. Also, who knows? Maybe this board made a little bit of difference.
Either way, a warning is not a ban. I can't understand how Bextra could be pulled off the market and LEVAQUIN "lives all" to do more damage to some.
Pray for this drug to be further scrutinized and researched!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have had so many shots of
Corticosteroids/NSAIDS/Steroids:
Triamcinolone Acetonide, Kenalog, Depo-Mardol, Lidocaine, Marvaine, Toradol, Epinephrine, Bextra, Xylocaine, Isovue.......on and on and now I do not walk hardly anymore.
I am married, no sex whatsoever! I stayed away from my husband for 3 years almost, living at my apartment. I just moved out by Eviction March 2, 2008. I did not pay rent for one year. I applied for disability since 1995. Won ALJ decision September 2006. I appealed the case being opened back to 1995. I wanted it go go back futher. Just appealed it again in 2008.
Okay, I am a simpleton out here needing a HERO to Take A Stand and Advocate for me.
I do not live with my husband. I live at his mother's home so that he comes and takes cares of us at the same time. She is 90 now. Can you imagine this? I have been reduced to a cripple.
I am a prisoner laid to rest by the BIG DRUG COMPANIES MISLEADING ME, IN NOT KNOWING ABOUT THE DISEASES THAT WOULD ATTACK ME IN THE ONLY LIFE THAT I HAVE.
I wonder if my hip bones have collasped. I have terrible bone pain.
I waddle like a duck, side to side with extreme pain until I freeze up and fall, but mostly, I live with a cane at my side when going out and about.
I now need a wheelchair.
From 1980's, 1990's and now all the way to 2008. I have all medicals.
It was not until 2003-2004 that my life took a turn for the worse.
Hips pain, arms pain, shoulders pain, pain in the Thorasic area to the tail bone area, right groin pain/pubic area pain/gentials, stomach sores/cut out, pain on the scalp, calves feel hard in side/stiff at all times, hamstrings are short, open sores have been on my face, arms and neck lasting for 4-6 mths, low back pain....all of me has been injected with the above crap.
I was doing quite well in life until 2004 when this Orthopedic doctor had shot my left shoulder 3 times.
After this June 2004 event above, and by September 2004 I had walking problems, blamed only on Fibromyalgia, DX 1989.
They took one blood test for Polyrheumatica.
I was fed 20 something meds in 2004.
By 2005 I was devestated in life, health and even wanting to be alive. For one full year I lived on the pot, using Lidocaine up the butt 3-4 times a day for the pain.
Now, looking back at this part, no wonder I had extreme skin blisters, hives, rashes, extreme sweating....this Lidocaine for rectum pain was harming me and no one took me off of it. I finally had my pharmacy tell me this was so wrong to be using 134.00 a month for over one year for pain. I stopped!!!! he seemed to say that I was being harmed.
Suddenly, at my clinic, all of my primary doctors began to do trigger point injections weekly, monthly and for 4 years for my Fibromyalgia comlaint. DX in 1989.
Many NSAIDS for one year, 2003-2004.
In 2003 I had a new denture and a few teeth extracted so that I smiled great when got married April 2003.
By August 2003 I was off the State HMO, had housing city of salem voucher for 5 years at my apartment and was planning to move out and be at my husband's home, but...by September 2003 I was already in some medical exams, new meds and was being normal to a point.
By late 2003 to mid-2004 I was feeling strange about my health. I felt as if I was being sucked dry of any fluids, weird to say, but it felt as if...hard to explain.
I was dizzy, vertigo, some balance problems and like itching, sweating and extreme fatigue. I felt like i was melting. My muscles felt like jello. I had no ability to stay upward on my spine.
I did complain to my dentist and doctors that I was feeling numb on my face and gums by may 2003.
After 2 years, leaving room for a possible lawsuit on the dentist/OS, I filed, had one deposition and my lawyer walked.
I had laughing gas for teeth extractions/numbing shots.
I thought that GAS/SHOTS was to be blamed, maybe the tools they used, or the water and I worked this case to the bitter end, sad to say, that a Lawyer Walked On Me.
By 2004 I did not know what hit me with my health issues..dentists/new meds/new marriage/new doctors involved.
I was in a drug stupor, taking almost 30 drugs from this clinic in 2004.
Prescribed and the samples of Vioxx, Mobic, Celebrex and Bextra.
I had so many Toradol shots to my spine and hips at this clinic and thought they had crippled me.
This doctor humiliated me.
Told me that I was a nut.
I now needed long term counseling with all of the body ailments they all told me. My primary doctor told me many times that NONE OF THE SPECIALIST NEEDED OR WANTED TO SEE ME FOR ANYTHING.
Nothing was hardly affecting me when I got married April 2003. I was a knock out!
The Gastro doctor had me on his 3 drugs also, including that daily Lidocaine up my butt. He did the endoscopy and colonscopy, bloodwork and he said I had Atrophic Mucosa.
He was in direct conflict with my Neurologist who did his own work and he claimed that I was Gluten sensitive, a Celiac now. He gave B12 shots and Folic Acid on top of all the other crap that I was taking.
The Hospital did a spinal tap and may tests.
The pain specialist did his epidurals 2 times.
I have had every NSAID they prescribed me.
I had sleeping pills.
I had anti-depressants.
I had Vicodin to Percacets and then they tried to get me on Methadone. One week on that crap was all.
I notice that Depo-Medrol, Marcaine, Lidocaine was mostly used thru out my life.
The pain specialist above that I used in 2006, also shot me with the epidurals 2 times before 2006, and the O.H.S.U. also shot me with all the above when they DX me with Fibromyalgia 1989.
Then many Toradol and Kenalog shots.
I live with daily diarrhea since 2005-2008.
My legs are always red every day with any walking, sleeping, sitting, balance is off, waddling gait.
My feet pain is as if I walk on glass or rocks....sharp pain now for 4 months.
Arachnoiditis fits me well. I have spoken with the doctor/expert that can test me.
I have been searching since early 2004.
I have no way to know who or what to blame.
I even thought that the MRI's Contrast Agents harmed me starting from the past to now.
I left the clinic that stole my life from me and now have a new doctor at Kaiser Permanente.
I am scared of all doctors now.
I have 4-5 meds right now.
Not one doctor or specialist will DX me. I have a thought below...
I fought the medical community WORLD WIDE back in 2002-2003 with the President Dr. Richard Willner, of Retired Association of Physcians and Surgeons. My two other sisters were in this heated debate.
I was told to expect danger at any time after this online 30 page cruel attack by the doctors on my wrongful death of my mother by her doctors/nursing home/hospital.
I proved this case.
The lawyer in Portland, Or. Judy Snyder told me I did extremely well proving this death was murder...but the Medical Consultant who did the summary of this death was hushed up!!! Later on, after another summary by Medical Consultant, she told me that we would be lucky to get $10,000 for a Nusiance Claim. I tried to get one Lawyer before the statues ran, but no luck. I heard that the Elder Abuse Statues ran for 7 years and to try for that. Oh well, I tried.

I was given this antibiotic - 750 milligram. Here I am at almost 4:30 am. I've had severe hallucinations and can't sleep. Plus, I have one of the worst headaches of my life and it is just above my nose between my eyes. This is the worst medication I have ever taken. This medication should be banned. I can't believe Bextra is off the market and this horrific medication is still approved. If I take another dose, I think I would be committing suicide. Lord help me not to go insane.
I hope the FDA reads these boards. I wonder how many suicides are connected to Levaquin? I hope that this will be researched.
This is the worst I have ever felt. I feel like I might need to wake up my husband. Is there a remedy for this mess? I feel as though I have poisoned myself by prescription.

I lterally just starting taking Yasmin today. I used to take Tri-phasil, but found it just wasn't keeping my mood in check over the last 6 months, not to mention I was suddenly getting 2 periods a month. So, I stopped taking the pill for a month, and after seeiong ads for YAZ ended up with Yasmine after visiting my Dr.
My questions for the ladies with symptoms of anxiety and mood swings: Did you not have these symptoms before starting the pill? If so, are you saying that Yasmin made them worse?
Also, I would be curious to find lout what BC pills you NOW use, and how the hormone dose compares to Yasmin. The Tri-phasil I used to take was stronger than Yasmin. If I begin to feel any side effects using Yasmin, I will have to assume that I just need something stronger and will begin with Tri Phasil again.

Lipitor Cholesterol Medication Users vs. Pfizer Inc. (maker of Lipitor) Lawsuit
Cholesterol-Fighting Drug Tied to Liver, Kidney Injury
The Kahn Gauthier Law Group is investigating possible lawsuits against Pfizer Inc., the manufacturer of the cholesterol-lowering drug Lipitor (atorvastatin), to recover for liver or kidney damage suffered by patients prescribed Lipitor. Like other drugs in its class (the statins), Lipitor can cause elevated liver enzymes. In clinical trials, this occurred in 0.7 percent of the patients, but the rate was much higher for those taking the 80 mg dose.
Another serious side effect of Lipitor and other statins is a condition called rhabdomyolysis, in which muscle cells break down and release potentially toxic cell contents into the bloodstream.

I have been off ZOCOR for 3 years, but still suffering effects from the drug, which I took for 4 months only...20 mg. I lost all muscle strength in my arms, dark urine, leg cramps, continued after I stopped taking the drug. The first 6 mos of stiffness were terrible...then slow improvement. I still have difficulty going up stairs and standing up in spite of exercises for leg muscles. My arm strength is slowly coming back along with some energy. My doctor prescribed VIOXX and then BEXTRA to counteract Zocor effects. Amazing that I'm alive -- but refuse all drugs now.

Hair loss, which didn't occur to me until I read the postings - my hair is everywhere in the house but on my head! Muscle pain, weakness, and atrophy, itchy skin and eyes, joint pain (from muscle weakness??) is excruciating - after months on physical therapy was pronounced a failure and referred to a pain specialist and another surgeon. Could not raise my arms w/o terrible pain, hurt to drive my car. Nausea, dark urine, alternate constipation and diarrhea, dizziness.
I don't know whether to be excited or terrified after finding this site and reading the postings. At first reading, the only symptom I have NOT had while on Lipitor is the numbness and tingling in legs and feet. I've been concerned I have some terrible, undiagnosed and terminal disease.
Have had surgery on one shoulder and am awaiting surgery on the other, plus a re-do of a scoped knee which is now unbearably painful. Also have had multiple steroid injections at different sites, and am scheduled for another next week - this time in my lower back. Was put on Paxil for pain, but have weaned myself off that. Was diagnosed with spinal stenosis and fibromyalgia. Wouldn't take the meds for the fibromyalgia because of the side effect mentioned in the literature - HAIR LOSS! I was already losing my hair! Finally found a surgeon who told me to GET OFF THE LIPITOR!
Problem is, I had also been on Bextra at least four years, I think, for long term mild lower back pain, and knee pain, so am wondering if arthritis could have set in and been masked by the Bextra, which I came off of at the same surgeon's insistence. One week later it was taken off the market.
Am now off all anti-inflammatory drugs while awaiting my latest steroid injection, and yes, I do fear the side effects of THAT! My pain is back to the "rocking and swaying" stage, and I'm awake in the middle of the night researching Lipitor! Does it ever stop??

After taking 10 mg. Lipitor for a couple of years, although my cholesterol was down to 170 from a 239 high, my new endocrinologist raised it to 20 mg. then 40 mg. after which I began developing many symptoms (rashes, edema. etc.), the worst of which was and still is extreme pain and muscle weakness in my legs and feet. After I complained to my internist and the endocrinologist, the former tested me and said I do not have rhabdomyelesis (sp?) but the latter said blood tests for this are highly inaccurate and put me on other drugs: Diovan and Vytorin. To my astonishment, Vytorin contains 40 mg. simvastatin (Lipitor) and 10 mg. ezetimibe. My best reference book for pills is WORST PILLS, BEST PILLS, which saved me before when doctors put me on a variety of painkilling drugs, namely Vioxx, Celebrex, and Bextra. I ran very high BP and heart rate with all of them and simply tossed them in the garbage. Now WPBP says DO NOT USE Vytorin OR Diovan as well as Lipitor. But with Lipitor, how does one stop, once placed on this damnable drug? I have seen references to something called Welchol, Tricor and Lopid as being good substitutes (also old drugs like Questran and Colestid), but if we as patients have to argue with our doctors to have them take us off this dangerous drug, and they prophesy death by high cholesterol if we ignore their advice, just precisely what are we to do? Anyone out there have a solution? Has anyone simply stopped taking Lipitor and not died? Did the pain disappear? I am thinking about doing just that in order to find out.

I have had fibromyalgia for 17 years. I was in remission (symptom free) for about 10 years but a very stressful situation brought me out of remission and I began experiencing joint weakness and pain. My doctor recommended Celebrex. For the last several years Celebrex relieved my pain well and I can function almost normally. I tried Vioxx when it came but experienced chest pain if I took it more than twice per week. I take Celebrex every 2-3 days, 200 mg. I also tried Bextra and it had no effect on my pain at all. I believe if it were not for Celebrex my mobility would be in jeapardyt.

I had a severe case of cellulitis, caused by a fast-moving bacteria. It was on my face. I was on Levaquin for six weeks, first at 700mg and then at 500mg. My shoulders and knees froze up and became very painful. My left foot had electrical spasms which made my life miserable. My doctor said that was probably from sciatica. I have arthritis and recently changed from Vioxx to Bextra (frying pan into the fire), and my doctor didn't seem to know about a link between Levaquin and joint pain. I only found out by reading this site. One suggestion if you have stomach problems--they gave me Protonix, a drug for acid reflux, and that kept me from having any stomach reactions to the Levaquin. I now have been off Levaquin for six days, and my joint pain has diminished by 80%. My foot pain is down to a dull ache and a lot of itching. I know that the Levaquin saved my life, but in hindsight, I wonder if there was a different drug I could have been given, that would not have caused me such severe joint and foot pain.

This is the first time I have ever taken levaquin. Never heard of it before this. I have always suffered with joint pain, back aches, and swollen joints. I have athritis. I am not even sure what the infection is, in my body. I had a swollen lymph gland in my groin area. Have been taking tests, and may have had a mild kidney infection. I have just found out I have diabetes too. The dr. put me on bextra for the joint pain, and levaquin for the infection. 500 mg for 10 days. I have had NO side affects that stand out. Actually, I feel much better. no joint pain, no nausea, no headaches and no tired feelings. I had all this before I started the levaquin. I did expreience one or two nights of not being able to sleep and feeling anxiety, but with everything else I am going thru.. I just took it as emotional stress. I have taken other antibiotics in the past that have given me a yeast infection.. but the levaquin has done well for me. I only have one left to take. I think allot of the side affects I have been reading are actually allergic reactions.. I was on prozac for 2 wks once, years ago and it put me in the hospital with all the stuff I am reading here. I hope you all get well and recover from whatever is making you sick.. Peace!

I just wrote to this bulletin board about a reaction that I thought might have been caused by this drug but after looking up the other drug that was taken at the same time I find that it could have been the other durg BEXTRA. I do not want to take either durg now that i've seen the other drug's side effects which are similar to what I experienced and I took it only once.

have taken Bextra and when that did not help me the doctor gave me Ultracet but that made me very sleepy in the afternoon and I would sleep for two hours and have been having nightmares.
When I was taking Bextra I had this intense itching in the armpits, the groin and other parts of my body if I touched it and I noticed it also was the same with Ultracet....and so I threw the pills which the doctor has given down the toilet.....I looked it up on the Internet and found it is narcotic....Doctors dispense pills without looking at the side effects...
Lipitor (4) Levaquin (4) Ultracet (3) Yasmin (2) Celebrex (1) Kenalog (1) Avelox (1) Zocor (1) Bextra (1)

Thank you for this site...although it is too late being I already poisoned myself with my 1st dosage - I know better now to STOP TAKING THIS DRUG IMMEDIATELY.
31 y/o male - non smoker - In good overall health.
What happened...(brief history of what got me to the point of being prescribed this horrid drug)
I caught a cold a few days after drinking quite heavily at a wedding (Aprox 1 month ago). It was severe enough for me to take a trip to this new doctor that is in my network and nearby (how I wish I could use my old family doctor that is out of network).
Symptoms then were congestion in my head and upper chest, cold sweats, runny nose. The doctor told me to take some over the counter stuff and try to fight it off w/ Mucinex, and Zyrtec - and lots of liquids. If that didn't work, he asked me to return.
It took about 5 days, and I seemed to kick the cold.
Approximately 2 weeks went by where I was feeling fine, then it seemed as if I was coming down with something again. (Last Thursday was when I started feeling ill)
I think what brought it on this time was breathing in excess dust at work opening some skids of paper in our warehouse.
Anyhow, this time around I had a pretty serious cough, felt feverish, and fatigued.
Sunday morning I woke up and took two Mucinex to break up the cough (which work great by the way)...and I hacked up something awful enough to call my doctors emergency line and have him paged. I was ready to go to the ER. It wasn't just phlegm or mucas - it was a soild mass of lord knows what containing blood. It look like an organ from a small critter.
Doctor said to keep taking the Mucinex and if I didn't feel better to come see him.
The coughing got worse on Monday, and the mucus I was spitting up wasn't pretty.
I went to see him yesterday afternoon (Tuesday) and he said its time to start you on an antibiotic and diagonsed me with an Upper Respiratory Infection.
He gave me Avelox, and Advair, and I asked for some of the good cough syrup w/ the codeine. He also sent me for a chest X-ray.
I got home around 4pm, made some food, then took some syrup and tried the advair.
I waited to take the Avelox til later on in the evening so I could set up a routine as I work nights and 9pm would be good.
I took the Avelox, around then, along with another dose of the cough syrup.
Around 1 hour later I felt extremely nauseous. I would burp, and feel almost ready to vomit...it was my body rejecting this horrible drug. The nausea came and went, came and went - then I got tired.
I laid down around 11pm and then the REAL trouble started. I must have fell asleep for about 30 mins, then woke up suddenly gasping for air...It felt like my heart was about to stop. I sat up in the bed panicked. I then got a little nervous, but calmed myself down, drank another glass of water and tried to fall back asleep. Sure enough just as I was about to drift off, the same sudden feeling of my breathing or heartbeat was interrupted and I sat up again. I had tingling in my chin area and in my arms. Walking to the bathroom I felt slightly disoriented and dizzy, and my legs and whole body felt weak. I also started getting itchy in my legs and groin area. Now I'm scared to go to sleep so I come to the computer and started researching this Avelox. It's 3:30 am now as I'm writing this. I looked at this site and http://www.fluoroquinolones.org/ before decided to post my experience.

I'm scared to lay down to sleep now, but hopefully that will wear off soon - but I feel very nervous, uncontrollably. I almost want to induce vomiting to maybe get out any of the drug that is left in my stomach, but hate vomiting.
I will not take another dosage of this Avelox, no matter what this doctor tells me...and will give him a piece of my mind for prescribing this instead of something like ammoxocillin or just penicillin.
