I have had Mirena for 1 yr and 5 months. The insertion was not painful that I recall, although I have had 4 kids, so I hear that may make a difference.
I loved this IUD for the first 9 months or so, then started noticing things that I didnt know were attributed to Mirena until I started reading about others experiences. Bleeding and spotting were minimal at first, no biggie.
I stopped having my period at all around 6 months...haven't had a period in a year..and had spotting maybe 3 times total. Since about 9 months into Mirena....I have had cystic acne. (which I didnt know existed until mirena) I had never had a blemish on my BACK in my life! Also on my face, around hairline, and in my ears, on my neck, and hard to get rid of. I have noticed little cyst like nodules in my neck and the back of my head, behind my ears, like swollen lymph nodes but they come and go...never noticed this before. Have had a intermittent mysterious sharp pain in my side, like a side stitch, comes and goes, and feel it during sex. No doctors had a clue about it. I have been very tired lately the last 3 months and I am on a stimulant for ADHD, so I should not be tired! (also why I haven't gained weight like others) But most markedly, I have always had a history of migraines, and had auras about 6 times in my life. Normally I would have 3 migraines a month tops.....then after about a year, I would get them several times a week...NOW I HAVE HAD A HEADACHE for 21 days straight, with only about 4-5 headache free days in there. Severe enough that I am taking painkillers and went to the ER, and they did a CAT scan and so nothing. normal. So. What could it be???
I got fed up this morning...after waking up one more day with kids I cant take care of properly or enjoy.....so I took out my IUD all by myself.
Couldn't leave the house to go somewhere with my head throbbing.
Dont want to pay anyone to remove something that has already cost me so much. Just looked at the diagrams, and found the string, pulled gently and viola! It was pretty darn easy! No pain, no discomfort at all. Not a drop of blood yet after 7 hours. Head still hurts but the relief I feel is great. I know I made the right decision to take it out and I wont use a hormonal BC again. I am looking into Essure now.
It works for some people, sure, but don't forget it worked fine for me for almost a year before I realized what harm it was doing to me.
I cant wait to have my skin back and my body back to normal.
Be wary, but it did its job. But I have read hundreds upon hundreds of negative reactions to this. Class action lawsuits getting ready. So be careful,

I have no idea if these are side effects from Remicade or not- because doctors always dismiss it as "probably just you". Definitely HEADACHES. I would occasionally get headaches before, but since being on Remicade the past year, I get really bad headaches. Neck/scapula pain/strain. I have woken up with immobile neck 3 times now in past 2 months. It's getting ridiculous. The doctors just say I need PT or to stretch. But I really wonder what's up and why I've never had that in my life until now. Also flushing with inital infusion, but that really is no biggie. I definitely feel STUPID. I've heard of "chemo brain"- does the same thing happen with Remicade?
I am 31 and taking this for inflammatory condition NOS. I have an autoimmune/inflammatory eye condition NOS that left me with significant Retinopathy. I did Prednisone, Methotrexate, Humira, Cyclosporine, Tacrolimus, Cellcept all for a few years- and nothing helped except steroids. Which obviously you shouldn't take long-term. Plus I HATE them, they make me fat, hairy and psycho! So Remicade has been a god-send in some ways. But I am a mother of 2 and love my husband, and worry that I may not go blind but will die young from side effects of this medicine. But why should I worry? Every health care professional says there are "NO" side effects. What's the deal?

I am going on topamax for the second time. I think the drug is going to be the best choice for me, personally. I am on it to treat both, epilepsy and chronic migraines. The first time I went on it, I titrated partially to my dosage (400mg) and had to stop because my potassium dropped dangerously low and I was pregnant at the time. I have since had my daughter and am giving it another go. I am having the loss of appetite, redness and tingling of hands and feet, some irritability. I am up to 100mg now and am titrating up to 400mg. I hope that it will subside after a while. I already don't care for carbonated beverages and you are supposed to avoid stimulants if you have migraines and epilepsy anyways people! So figure it a blessing that you can't drink carbonated beverages that MOST contain CAFFEINE aka STIMULANT!!! HELLO!!! As for the other symptoms, i guess you have to weigh the benefits to the risks. I certainly hope it works for me and everyone else. Last time I took it, it could have caused heart failure. That was a biggie! So I would say, Get your routine labs and so long as you can withstand the side effects and the reason you went on the medication is being controlled...... Thank you topamax!

I have founded an advocacy group called Parents United for Pharmaceutical Safety and Accountability. The activities of this group will include supporting Kate and Dave Miller's efforts to initiate change in the adverse event reporting system and failed system of updated drug info notification to physicians and pharmacies, and to educate the public and motivate them to demand change too. Another activity will be to educate the public about the dangers of Singulair and how to spot adverse reactions. And finally, the biggie: putting pressure on the FDA to AT LEAST "black box" Singulair.
I personally wonder how many people out there have experienced adverse reactions to Singulair. At some point, if the FDA lets us down, I want the group to conduct its own study to determine this and maybe identify new adverse reaction?
Hopefully the website will go live next week. Anyone who wants to volunteer or give input is invited to sign up via a private message to me at this site. If you provide your email address I will contact you when the site goes live. If you would like to speak to me directly, send me your phone number and I will call you.
I have already contacted some of you directly, and if I have not yet gotten back to you, forgive me, I will.
Thanks in advance for any support you can give!

I've been on Flomax almost a month now and am pissing like a teen ager once again. I am 60 years old and have had BPE for several years, Tried saw palmetto with no results. Within a day of beginning Flomax, I noticed a much improved pee stream, started easier, finished when I was empty not when I was tired of straining.
Sexually, I still achieve a satisfying climax; however, there is zero ejaculate. But, I am well beyond that time when I want to conceive a child, so this is no biggie as long a s the orgasms are satisfying.
I have read many of the horror stories of the guys (and girls) posted here and feel truly lucky I am able to tolerate the medication as well as I do. One could get the impression from reading here that the drug is very dangerous with many serious side effects, but then again, generally only those with a problem typically will be found posting to sites like this one.

I was finally diagnosed with add last November. The doctor tried me on Straterra. It made me tired all the time and emotional. Next we tried Concerta. That made me agitated and irritable, So then we finally got around to adderall. It worked, yay! 10mg 3xday did nothing for me, so the next time I went to my pdoc I told her. So she upped my dosage to 20mg in the am, 10mg at noon, and 10mg in the pm. I did not understand this. I tried this for a few days and guess what? I did okay in the am, but the noon and pm dose were useless. So I took it upon myself to just go ahead and take 20mg 3xday. Only side effects were dry mouth and appetite reduction. I ran out a week early, but no biggie, I was prepared for the consequences,
So the next time, I see my pdoc (new one this time), I tell her what I'd done and I felt that 20mg 3xday was right for me. She recommended adderall xr30mg in the am and 20 regular adderall in the pm. I decided to go ahead and try it, figuring xr is the same stuff in a time released form.
Oh how wrong was I! Side effects started with headache, then drowsiness to the point I had to take a nap. I've been becoming more and more emotional and irritable since I've been taking it (2 weeks now).
Earlier tonight I had an episode that could have turned into a bad panic attack. Luckily, though, I got to my clonezapam before I got too far out of control.
I just don't understand how the (supposed) same drug in a different form could have such different side effects. I was going to continue with the xr, hoping the bad side effects would diminish in time, but after tonight, I think I will flush them.
Has anyone else had the same or similar experience?

I started a 5 day dose of 500 mg (UTI) last week right before I flew to Chicago for a weekend vacation. Before my flight I was a NERVOUS wreck! I hadn't flown in a while and couldn't believe the anxiety I was feeling. While there, on my 3rd day of levaquin, I went horse-back riding for about an hour, no biggie. The next day, I tried to go on a walk, and had to lay down right in the middle of the woods because my thighs were so sore and my hands were trembling. I had terrible fear of getting back on the plane sunday night, and wanted to write out a will! I was crying my eyes out. Not normal for me. When I got home, I awoke at 3 am extrememly sick to my stomach. I have now been off for 2 days, and the hot sweats and leg pain made me think I had something very wrong. I'm 37 female, healthy.

Taking 200 mg of the SR twice a day. This was after being misdiagnosed with bi-polar and put on lithium for two months.
Sooo, I would rather have the side effects of the lithium! I kept getting an all around body rash that would last for a few hours, and itched terribly. That was the first side effect.
Headaches were soon to follow with a deep anger for no apparent reason. I just wanted to to be miserable to everyone!
Soon after that, I had nausea, which I was vommiting often and couldn't sleep. My throat itches, and my tinniutus keeps me awake.
NOW THE BIGGIE: I can't even remember my own address when asked or phone number. I can't remeber what I was going to do and get stuck.
I'd rather be a zombie on lithium.....

Hi, I am 25 and had never taken birth control prior to 1 yr. ago when I started Yasmin. I will be honest I was nervous because I am allergic to everything, but my cycle was so long and irregular that I felt I had to do something. I really think this works pretty well with my body chemistry. I gained maybe 4 lbs. over the last year no biggie, but I do occasionally have headaches right after my cycle behind my eyes. The only other thing that is a bit odd is I do get a tingling sporadically in my legs and hands. Before reading your blogs I didn't realize this was a side effect of the pill and would never had put it together. I watch all of those crazy restless leg commercials and I was beginning to think I had that lol. But thanks for your input it helps. I think I will stick with this pill for a while longer my only concern is if it has long term neg. effects when you stop taking it... any thoughts?

I have been taking Yasmin for about three months now and have never pee'd so much in my life! Not only do I pee more often but I get this immediate frequent urge and have to get to the bathroom with in one minute or I might piss my pants. Other than that I have not had any other side effects, but I would say this is a biggie!

AmyR-
I started Xanax a month ago and Paxil 2 days ago. You are NOT alone. I am dreading my daughter's 6th b-day party in 2 weeks. I was NEVER like this, I swear to it.
I saw the doc today (Sat) and he assured me that I won't be on paxil forever, this should only take a few months. He also wants me monitored by a counselor. No biggie but it is not easy with 2 kids to go from doc to doc.
I feel less anxiety lately. I find it so strange to have anxiety since I used to work in a very people-oriented field, getting up and speaking in front of 100 people was a once-a-week thing for me. My spells seem to hot me at 7 pm every night, go figure. Coincidence or not... that is the time I used to take my Yasmin tablet.
I am glad that you too sought help to get through this. It is NOT easy, I know.
Lisa- I am in the northeast USA.
Feel better everyone!

Hi there Joodles,
I've been actively scanning your posts since I can identify with you quite a bit. Like you I'm also day 52 off the pill but this is my situation. All the side effects of has only developed after I went off yasmin. I was basically fine on the pill.
1-this is a Biggie
I gained about 6-8lbs and am extremely bloated, disfigured every single solitary day for the past 7 weeks and cannot seem to shake it off with any diet or excercise. Help-is this here to stay. U mentioned something about losing the weight-but I'm having no luck.
2-no recurring period.
3-heart palpitations at night as soon as I hit the sack
3-no sex drive
4-ankle pain
5-Moodiness, depression and bouts of crying
6-headaches
My gyn said I should come to him if I don't get my period by day 60 and as for the other symptoms-I should go to a doctor. Well thats bs because I know it really all comes from this crazy pill.]
Any advice for that weight gain? I used to be very thin and fit and now I look and feel as if i'm pregnant.
Thanks much.
Sherry

Male, 24 Years Old, Healthy, Active. Have never had any adverse reactions from any medication. No known allergies. Was prescribed Levaquin on Friday, March 18th, 2005 for a minor throat infection. 500mg tablet once daily. Took first dose on Saturday, March 19th, 2005. Over the course of the next 6 days I have been getting progressively worse. Have been experiencing flu-like symptoms including; Fever, chills, muscle aches/pains, joint pain, headaches, muscle spasms, sleeplessness, mood swings, severe coughing(feeling like I have bronchitis), pain in eyesockets when moving eyes, general feeling of being tired/washed out, depression, anxiety, cotton mouth, loss of concentration, vivid dreams(whatever, I can deal with that, no biggie), and just a general feeling of being disconnected from my surroundings like there is this cloud around my head. I have taken the medication for 6 days thus far. I am now on the seventh day and have decided to discontinue use. The Levaquin failed to clear up my throat infection and it has only gotten worse. I have scheduled an appointment with my doctor for Monday, March 28th, 2005. I am also going to start taking two tablespoons of Milk of Magnesium daily starting tomorrow, Saturday, March 26th, 2005. I will post again in a few days to update you all on my condition and wether or not the Milk of Magnesium is working. I sincerely hope that the effects of this drug can be reversed. This site is a godsend. Had I never found it I would have continued to take this "poison". - John

Hey girls,
I just started my second pack of Yasmin yesterday. I wrote about a month ago about how terrified I was to take this pill, so I guess I've paid a lot of attention to how my body is reacting to it. During the first month I had some spotting, which I knew would probably happen because of hormonal influx (no biggie). I wore a tampon most of the month, just because I'm a clean freak and didn't want to feel yucky. After the week of 'non active' pills my period has finally stopped. Last night, my boyfriend and I tried intercourse and it was incredibly painful. I was actually shocked at how miserable I felt. So, I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this vaginal abrasions or dryness? If you have you can repsond here, or email me. ******
I'm going to keep taking it another month and see what happens. I hate to give up so soon. Hope you all feel better - for those that are miserable - I was miserable on Alesse, much like the symptoms presented here.

I started this pill almost 3 weeks ago, and could not even take it the first full month. I wanted to give it a try for PCOS, to help get rid of excess facial hair, regulate hormones etc.
When i say my body has been ravaged by this pill, that is an understatement! Immediately, the frequent urination began, but i can deal with that. Not a biggie. I started taking them like the 2nd day of my period, a Sunday, to get that nice effect of no period on the weekend sort of thing. I have been bleeding ever since. Heavy, clotty bleeding for 3 weeks! I have never bled like this. Cramps like I haven't experienced since I was about 16. Then the UTI came, then the abdominal pain. I am so bloated, my belly is so hard, it's ridiculous. I guess i have a lot of gas, but can only burp if i force myself to, or drink a big coke or something. I feel like if i was poked with a pin, I would POP! I have been constipated, and I never experienced this, even when I was pregnant and taking all that extra iron. The abdominal pain is the most excruciating part, though. It started out in my lower abdomen as soreness, but i had just gotten over a stomach virus, so thought i was just sore from vomiting. Then the pain started rising, to the point that now its in my ribcage. I cant even yawn without wanting to scream. No deep breaths or anything. I can barely get in and out of my car. The only way i make it through the night is with Darvocet, because i get low grade fever and the pain is worse at night. My Gyno thought it may be gall bladder trouble, so I had full bloodwork 2 days ago, which i wont get the results for a few days, and today I had an ultrasound, so they could pinpoint and schedule for surgery. Surprise, no gall bladder trouble on the ultra sound. I have also had severe joint pain, to the point of crying. I havent taken a pill for 2 days, just couldnt take it anymore, so hopefully when this stuff leaves my system, I can get back to normal. Sorry for the long vent but i'm sick of being in pain. Never had any health troubles prior to this. Beware for anyone in the future.

hi. i had mirena put in feb 08. around June i started having flu like symptoms and stomach issues. doctors couldn't figure that out so i learned to deal with it. no biggie. may 09 i started having palpitations and tightness in my chest. doc #1 said it was a panic attack.(no) doc #2 thought i pulled a muscle (nope) july went to the er. test were ran all negative. pain and palpitations still come and go. until 4 days ago, just walking around i became short of breath, had sharp pain, and bad palpitations that wouldn't go away with rest. the next day i had to go to the er again because my blood pressure went up so high. been at home in bed for 3 days now. still tight chest. still palpitations off and on. i see a cardiologist tomorrow to make sure there is nothing seriously wrong. but reading this, things are making a bit more sense. i have also asked my gyn 2x's and they state that mirena will NOT cause any type of chest issues because of the type of hormones in it. if cardiologist finds nothing along with everyone else, IT'S COMING OUT! i'm so tired of feeling sick!
