Oh my gosh! Let me be the five hundredth entry on here and let me as...why are doctors still prescribing this drug??? Yesterday was my LAST day on Yaz. I was only on it 4 days, seriously. I felt like I did not care about ANYTHING. I am usually a blast to be around for the most part....not now. It is Easter and I can''t get out of bed because I have been throwing up with accompanied diarrhea. I am so depressed I can't stand it and I nearly bit of my sister in laws head for NO REASON yesterday. This is NOT me and I am so discouraged that I will never get my flippin hormones sorted out since no birth control has ever worked for me. I am thinking about trying bio identical hormone replacement....any success stories? I am so tired of feeling this way. I can not believe it has only been four days.....worst four days of my life!!!

My wife started on 6.25 dosage for her inability to sleep properly. It helped her sleep. However, the 6.25 stopped being responsive and her MD prescribed her a higher dosage. Once she started taking the higher dosage, her thought process was impaired and had extreme pressure headaches along the head, face and neck. Her mind was so screwed up that she started to have suicidal thoughts and intense feelings of fear that she would start to have panic attacks. I do not know how these drugs get FDA approved. Went to a naturopath who did a hormone test and found that her hormones were unbalanced. Went on bio-identical hormone replacement therapy and she is herself again. She is also able to sleep properly.

hi nightowl.
you won't find insomnia or anxiety listed on the side effects leaflet that comes with yasmin but you will definately find them and many many more listed on here,if yasmin is making you feel like this now STOP taking it before it gets any worse, please take a few minutes to read through some of the posts here from women that have been suffering some awful effects. i do dispute that yasmin may be a "wonder pill" for some women but for many of us it is the worst pill we have ever taken. i am ansure as to why your doctor has put you on birth control pills at your age,i understood it was risky to prescribe the pill to women over 35 due to the higher risk of thrombosis, heart attacks and strokes etc? have you discussed using natural bio identical hormone creams to ease your symptoms. pro-gest is meant to be very good. please discuss your symptoms with your doctor but do not let them tell you yasmin cannot possibly cause these effects, there are thousands of women here who KNOW differently.
best wishes to you nightowl.

Silke-
So glad to hear from you. I am just interested to know because I had lab tests done (blood) as well and mine came back "normal" low normal so I ordered a saliva test online for a hormone profile because I read that saliva tests are more accurate than blood tests for hormones and my labs came back that my testosterone is way low as well as some of my other hormones which were too low for a woman my age. ( By the way I have been off the yasmin since the end of Nov. 2005) So now I am looking into bio Identical hormone replacement, which is a natural hormone much like the hormones our bodies make already NOT the synthetic junk in BCP's. I think in my case that the yasmin supressed my androgens and testosterone which are the male hormones, guess what these hormones are responsible for? skin elasticity, mood, sleep balance, cholesterol levels, muscle integrity... among other things...hmm sound familiar? a lot of things we and other people on this site are complaining about. I am still looking into finding a good doctor for the BIH replacement but you can read up on this on www.salivatest.com click on 24 HOUR HORMONE HOTLINE on the bottom paragraph of the second box on the left hand side of your screen, then on the next screen scroll down to 630 ANDROGENS: Testosterone and DHEA listen to what the hormones are responsible for. 627 All about Hormones is very informative as well, actually if you click on a lot of the numbers there you can learn a lot, as well as about saliva testing and BIHR. You can order a saliva test by clicking on the home page you started out on, at the very top it says order test kit. I ordered HORMONE PROFILE I. That measures your estridiol, progesterone, testosterone, DHEA, and cortisol levels in the am. This will give you a basic idea of where your hormones are at. I would be curious to see where your levels really are as well. Let me know what you think. Bitter RN-

I am not on synthroid, but also feel tired all the time with brain fog. I was actually thinking about getting my thyroid checked. I just read a wonderful book called "Breakthrough" and will be going to one of the recommended doctor's in the book. All of everybody's symptoms, including mine, sounds like the result of out of whack hormones---estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, cortisol, etc.(guys, you too) You might want to go to a doctor that deals with bio-identical hormone replacement---not your OB/GYN. They also have a better thyroid hormone replacement---a natural one made from, um, here it comes--pig--which is supposedly better than the synthetic stuff everyone is taking. Also, every single doctor interviewed in the book raved about the fact that diet sodas are poison--the artificial sweeteners are killing us--so if you're downing those, you might want to stop for a while to see if you feel better. Good luck and God bless you all---hope this helps you and I hope the doctor that I'm going to see helps me...I really recommend reading that book---there is a wealth of info in there. Some things I questioned but most things really made sense.
