My daughter has been in Hospital due to a side effect from using Nuvaring birth control. She started using this BC on July 13, 2009 and by Wednesday evening she was put in hospital because DR. thought she was having a seizure. My daughter discontinued the nuvering do to a conversation I had with her on Friday morning. Doctor's. say it takes 72 hours to get bc out of system. Now it is Monday 72 hrs later and daughter is better. She may not get out of hospital for a couple more days byt ladies what it. The drs. had to run all kinds of test before figuring out it was the birth control. This is very scary because at first her systems reflected a stroke and then seizures and then drs. did eeg testing over last weekend and discovered not seizures. Any one else have this problem?

Well for the longest time I assumed that my side effects were because I was a new mom. Even though my friends had babies and were fine I figured it was just me. I just found this site and told my OB that I wanted it out but they insisted on running tests for my thyroid {norm} and anemia {norm} and I'm still waiting for the results of my STD {yes they went that far} panel, but considering me and my husband are faithful it really makes me question their sanity. Plus I got 3 kinds of pregnancy tests, Blood, Urine and Ultrasound which also paired to make sure my IUD was in the right place and checking for cysts. Yea all normal and no pregnancy. Go figure.

I've had my mirena since jan 07 right before I turned 19 and 2 months after I had my daughter. In the beginning I didn't notice side effects that is until jan 08 when I noticed I went from a fit 190 {which with my height and bone structure it was muscular and fit} to 250 which for someone who's life didn't change was odd. I went on a research weight loss drug which actually helped with some of the symptoms and dropped my weight to 195 but I still had the 4-6 month pregnant belly not happy at all. After the weight loss pills were done, I remembered the horrid effects. Severe migraines, pelvic pain, strange sensation to push while peeing {yes labor push}, nausea, mood swings, sore breasts, fluttering in abdomen, joint pain, lower back pain, Low to no sex drive {I'm 21 and its NOT NORMAL} and this fatigue its ridiculous! A sensation like the presence of a baby rolling you know that weird pressure? I honestly can't stand it anymore I want to be a normal mommy. Not weird and like an alien is living in my belly.... I love this birth control because it is good but the side effects are crippling. Between the pain, fatigue and migraines I can't hardly function, I'm 21 and SHOULDN'T FEEL LIKE THIS, It's actually rather saddening.

Is anyone else in their 20's and feels like this?

Update..... I got my Mirena taken out yesterday, I didn't feel a thing and took less than a minute. I am bleeding a little (i think it was time for my period anyway!) But today I feel soooooo good! Not sure if its psychological or if its the Mirena gone, but who cares I feel great!! I need to consider birth control might just go with a condom and spermicide (my husband hates condoms too) but its either that or another child LOL! Well good luck all!!! =)

I did a lot of research before having Mirena put in. I'm amazed at how many of these women are complaining about Mirena. First off I read up on different types of birth control. I decided to get Mirena because it seems the most effective. I met with 3 different doctors to make sure I was a good candidate for Mirena. I have never had kids which they said would make the insertion painful. When I had it put in it felt like a bad cramp, but it quickly went away. I had light cramps the 1st week, but knew it was normal.
I have read many of these posts and all the negative ones seem to be complaints for absurd reasons. First off, if your doctor does not know anything about mirena, they should not be putting it in. After insertion, you shouldn't have sex for at LEAST a week. The doctors in the U.S. are REQUIRED to tell you both the benefits and the side effects of Mirena. If you are experiencing any abnormalities such as loss of appetite or extreme depression you should be making an appointment to see your doctor not waiting YEARS to finally decide you need help.
Although this is not a side effect of Mirena I thought this post might be useful to others.

I am not a Mirena user, but was seriously considering it until I came across this site, and read all these comments. I also came across a site warning that Mirena is a levonorgestrel uterine implant, the same progestin that was in Norplant (which is several small implants that are placed under the skin in the upper arm). Once I read that, I definitely would not try this form of birth control. I had Norplant implanted in my arm, many years ago, after the birth of my two children. It was horrible, there were maybe a few days out of the month that I had no bleeding or spotting. They said my period should regulate within 6mths, well I gave it almost 14mths, and couldn't take it anymore. Romoval was not quite as easy as implantation. I used to joke...that it was great birth control, who'd want to have sex when you have your period all the time, well it was no joke.
Read all these warnings, do research, glad I did. I would have made the same mistake I made 15yrs ago, with Norplant.

I was on Nuvaring for 5 months I thought it was the answer to my prayers and I was fine till last month when it got out of hand (or a least I noticed it) I was extremely paranoyed (still am), I had really bad headaches, cramps, wanted to eat everything, OH and I was depressed and wanted to cry all the time, the one that might cause me my relationship is not having trust. I explain it was having no control over my body and what I put in my body. Finally I broke down crying after telling my partner about the side effects and my pain, and agony. he made me take it out and it has been rough I am still not in contol of myself but with in a week I have lost two pounds because I do not have an erge, my partner can definatly tell a difference in me...but now we have to find a new birth contol :-S

Dear Guest 40772-

Migraines are a direct possible side effect of taking birth control pills. Almost all of the accompanying inserts indicate migraine headahces as a possible result-mostly of the changes to hormones and blood flow. You should dis-continue Yasmin and any birth contol that is hormone changing and see an OBGYN as soon as possible. Don't try to convince yourself any longer that it is not due to yasmin-its outlines in possible and serious side effect risks.

There are different means for coming off and I think it all depends upon how strongly your body is respoding to the hormones and ingredients. you should expect if you discontinue mid-cycle that you will likely experience cramps and either break-through bleeding for an early period. Both, natural responses to changing what a hormone/bcp does which is to prohibit your natural period. You can just stop and if you are experiencing migraines, I would suggest doing so as promtly as possible and seeing your OBGYN right away.

Don't worry so much about side effects as much as you should be seeing immediately results and relief form dis-continuing the Yasmin and the migraines you are experiencing!

I took Yasmin for almost a year. The symptoms started after the first month. Feeling faint and lightheaded was really the only symptom I had until the last month I took Yasmin. That is when major things started happening. Almost everyday, my heart felt like it was going to jump straight out of my chest! Then the panic feelings set in. I was extremely scared and thought there was something physically wrong with me. I was nervous everytime I went out somewhere because I was unsure when the heart racing/panic attacks would happen. I felt helpless and on one or two occasions got very close to going to the emergency room. I finally realized that this might all be happening because of my birth contol pill. I never thought that it could have such an effect on my body...and mind! I have been off Yasmin for almost 3 weeks and feel like my old self again. I still have times when I feel faint but the heart and panic attack problems have gone away. Now I'm not sure what to take. I want to be on some form of birth control but Yasmin has tainted my view on all pills. Any suggestions?
