I have been on loestrin for 2 months now. For the past month I have been an emotional wreck, and for the passed week I have had anxiety, heartburn and stomach cramps just below my ribcage. My lower back is killing me and my stomach is spasming. I just took my last birth control pill this morning and start the reminder pills tomorrow. I totally don't feel myself. I haven't got my period since i've been on it. My doctor put me on it because I was bleeding abnormally heavy for me two weeks after my period. I really want to not start a new pack, but i'm nervous that i will bleed heavily again. the anxiety is causing me no to sleep.................I hate this pill

My son has been on Singulair off and on for two years. He goes off in the summertime since his asthma is mostly due to upper respiratory infections. He recently went back on it, maybe three weeks ago. He is 7 years old. Every morning now he wakes up with nightmares. This morning he said that he had a nightmare that all six of his webkinz were killed, except for one. The night before he said a tornado had blow our house away. There have been other nightmares too.

I decided this morning to stop Singulair, then called the allergist. The allergist agreed we should stop it and see what effect would happen. Today during school, the teacher had to call me because he was yelling at other students and was hitting books because he wanted a prize for fund raising. She said he was inconsolable.
During the summer, he was a totally different child -- easy going, laughing a lot. Now he seems stressed out, anxious and depressed.
I also noticed he has begun oversleeping.
Even worse, he was diagnosed with ADHD back in April. All of the surveys filled out by teachers and by me were from when he was on Singulair.

I know that drugs can do this to adults. I was once on a birth control pill that made me so paranoid and neurotic, I had never felt that way before. A different pill was fine and never had that happen again.

Hi everyone....I wish I would have done my homework on Femcon before I started taking it. I have not had a period since my son was born....almost 3 years ago! My ob-gyn thought something was wrong with me and did every test known to man but everything came back normal. She prescribed Femcon to "help" regulate my period. I came on my period in the middle of taking my second week. I have been on my period, heavily, for the past 9 days! I want to pull my hair out! I am constantly cramping and bloated to no end! Not to mention my husband is getting irritated because we have not had sex in almost three weeks(he was out of town on business for two weeks)! I am going to call my ob-gyn today to see if she can prescribe a different birth control pill because if this is what it takes to regulate my period, I would have been fine not having one!

I have been on Femcon Fe for about 2 months and I have been depressed, having major headaches, and bleeding for days now. I wonder if there is a better birth control pill out there because I am about to quit taking them.

After the birth of my second child my birth control was switched to Desogen. I have had terrible mood swings/depression, I am tired all the time and I just can't seem to lose weight. I exercised daily at high intensity and I stayed the same, so I just gave up. I am just not my energetic self any more. I have been on Desogen for 2 1/2 years now and I thought it was just me getting older. A friend mentioned that it could be my birth control pill and I started doing research. The more I read the more real it gets. I would like to thank all of you for your postings, it has helped me make sense of all my issues.

Wow you are all a bunch of complainers who try and blame XYZ on Yasmin which probably have ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with the pills. I have bee diagnosed with PCOS and have been on hormone therapy since age 15, first zovia, which worked well enough but did not get rid of a lot of my symptoms, only lessened them somewhat, so now I am on yaz. My depression has completely subsided, I feel GREAT and only had some nausea which almost EVERYONE gets when taking a hormone therapy birth control pill. Trust me, if you are going to have SIDE EFFECTS it is not going to happen 4 YEARS LATER, please.... grow up and take responsibility for yourselves, rather than trying to blame a pill

I think it is interesting the symptoms that you mention here. I have been on birth control pills since the age of 19. I am now 28. Over the past year I have had similar symptoms. I have been on so many different BCP's that is is hard to keep count. They don't seem to work the way they claim to. The last BCP I was on was orthotryciclen. While taking these I began to experience severe heart palpitations. So bad that they would wake me up at night. Because I wasn't sure if it was an anxiety attack or just being in my head I decided to ignore it. Four months passed by and it seemed to get increasingly worse. I had enough and decided to go to my PCP. She wasn't really much help either. Although I was tested for Mitral Valve Prolapse, which I was told affects younger women my age. There was nothing found. What I thought was interesting is I really felt that it was the birth control pills, but I couldn't find it as a side affect on the information that was provided in the box. The tech who was doing my echocardiogram began to tell me she also experienced the same feelings and found out it was her BCP. Once she confirmed what I thought was right, decided to stop taking them. After three months the symptoms began to disappear. I figured it was just the particular brand. I began to take loestrin 24. I started to feel the same symptoms again, just not as severe. I would feel my heart beat when I would like down in my back and my stomach. My heart rate would reach 90 to 100 sometimes. I know this is not normal. When I visited my gyno yesterday she told me it was impossible that it was a result of the BCP. Maybe it was just anxiety and or perhaps I should get checked out by a cardiologist. That is serious stuff when you are talking to a young person about getting there heart check out. I think if there are any other women out there who are experiencing any similar symptoms should speak up. So these doctors won't keep telling us it is all in our heads and help to take care of this problem.

i was giving the "free sample" packet of Femcon Fe by my ob-gyn to help with the irregularities of my periods due to PCOS.from day one its been a major pain!a headache and insane nausea!it was awful...and this trend continued non stop through the entire 3 1/2 weeks of use.headache nausea fatigue moody tender breast heartburn...heck...i began to think i was flipping pregnant and took a test to reassure myself i wasn't and that this birth control pill was just really working me over. i know one must allow their bodies to get used to the b/c...but this was ridiculous! i finally threw in the towel last night and stopped taking them.in my third week and already i'm spotting with incredibly bad cramps nonstop.makes me think something is seriously wrong...wait i know..its this freaking pill! i think there is a hidden agenda to these pharmacal companies handing out free samples of b/c....using you as little test subjects without being up front about how bad the effects are on the body.heck...i was foolish enough to be convinced....a minty chewable birth control pill.AWESOME!...cha! they should include on the packaging"This product has the tendency to totally annihilate your sense of comfort during the entire duration of consumption".screw this pill...i'd rather deal with the side effects of my last pill which is like cake and ice cream compared to this one here!

oh and here is the birth control pill side effect list...

Common side effects of oral contraceptives include loss of sex drive (libido), headaches, acne, weight gain, vaginal infections, and depression. Current research indicates that oral contraceptives increase your risk of acquiring HIV if your partner is infected. Oral contraceptives also have some uncommon but serious health risks associated with their use, especially among smokers; these include abnormal blood clotting and heart attacks, breast cancer, and gallbladder disease.

I am 17 and i was prescribed loestrin 24 as my first birth control pill. I've been on it for less than a week and i can't stand it and neither can my boyfriend! I have had a period from hell with has been 5 days in counting, I bleed so much i get dizzy when i stand up and my legs feel like 1000 lbs i can barely move them. Also i had diminished sex drive and raging hormones (bad acne, emotional hell) so i have decided to stop taking it. I called my gynec. and she recommended the opposite, and told me to get a blood test to check my iron levels and to see if i was pregnant! I'm almost positive i am not but not shes got me worried and i go for the blood test today. Loestrin ruined the second half of my summer but after reading all these other ladies tales i am very glad i decided to quit now. Thank you for opening my eyes, i realized it probably won't just go away in a week. I stopped it yesterday and i feel better already.

I have been on Loestrin24 since March 2008 and have been hospitalized once, in the emergency room once and suffering since. About two weeks after I started taking Loestrin24 in March 2008, I had what they thought was a TIA or, a "mini-stroke" and was put in the hospital. I was seeing a rainbow-like aura, had a splitting headache (for only about 30 minutes), became extremely confused, my blood pressure jumped up to 168/93 (stage 2 hypertension) and I couldn't speak for a few hours. Of course, they hospitalized me, ran all kinds of tests and found there to be no medical reason for a mini-stroke and the neurologist cleared me so, I was sent home with no mention of the fact that it could be the Loestrin24 that was causing it and, yes, my husband did tell them I was taking it. Two months later, I was back in the emergency room with the same symptoms. However, this time I recognized the symptoms as the same ones I'd had before and we immediately headed to the hospital. I was not hospitalized this time and the ER doctor said it was a migraine (there's a migraine that causes stroke-like symptoms) and that it's possible it could be the Loestrin24. Well, I'm taking the birth control pill because I have incredibly painful periods and was trying to be able to live a normal life. Without the birth control pill, I literally have to plan my life around my periods. So, not wanting to believe it was the Loestrin24, I continued to take it because, I hadn't had a period since I started taking it. That, alone, was worth it for me. But, last night while watching TV with my husband, the worst symptom hit me. It was like someone took a sledge hammer and slammed me in the forehead with it! I was wracked with such pain in my head that my hands flew to my forehead and I was screaming/crying. My head hurt so badly that I was would not have been surprised if I was actually bleeding from my eyes and ears. This morning, I'm still having the ringing in my ears and I could sleep for hours. I have contacted both my ob/gyn and my family physician and both of them said to stop taking it immediately.

Also, like I've read in several postings here, my sex drive is completely gone. And, when I do give in to my husband and have sex, my heart feels like I'm going to have a heart attack. The sudden splitting headache has actually come on during sex, too!

I certainly do not want to go back to the debilitating pain of my periods but, I can't live like this, either!

I am so glad I found this page! I am 16 and have been taking Yaz for a month and a half.. the first month I felt great. I was loosing weight and getting shorter, lighter periods. About a week or two ago I started feeling pressure throughout all of my head and I just didn't feel like myself, so I suspected a head cold or an ear infection. At the same time I was also experiencing SEVERE panic attacks to the point where I thought I was having a heart attack and might be dying. These would sometimes last until 4:00AM and cause me to loose a whole night's sleep. Finally I had my mom make me an appointment with my primary physician. I had an EKG done, which came back normal, and my doctor put me on the handihaler. The panic attacks, anxiety, and paranoia had all continued. Almost a week has gone by since and I had another severe panic attack just last night... needless to say, after finding this website my mom has already called my OB/GYN and scheduled an appointment to change my BC pill. I took my last Yaz pill day before last and don't plan on ever taking anymore. I never thought that something as simple as a birth control pill could do this to a person.

My daughter took Yasmin for two months and 18 days. She began to experience anxiety but the nurse told her that Yasmin "took some getting used to." My daughter decided to give it one more month. In the 3rd month she experienced shortness of breath and some "funny little bloody noses." She had no symptoms of DVT's in her legs (pain or swelling). A doctor examined her on Wednesday and diagnosed "anxiety." On Thursday her nurse reassured me that the shortness of breath could definitely be caused by anxiety. Friday morning she collapsed in her dorm room. She turned blue. She was taken to the ER. She DIED eight hours later of massive pulmonary emboli.
Don't let this happen to you or someone you love. Know ALL the symptoms of blood clots in the legs OR in the lungs. These symptoms are buried in small print in the middle of the booklet. If you develop symptoms go to an ER IMMEDIATELY and insist on being checked for blood clots. Tell them you are on Yasmin. Do not accept the diagnosis of anxiety unless blood clots are ruled out. In addition, if you have a family history of blood clots be tested for clotting disorders BEFORE you start a birth control pill. She was my only daughter and my heart is broken. BE CAUTIOUS. We were falsely lured into a sense of safety because it was a "low dose" pill.

I started taking Trivora in June, 2008. I had to stop taking it after 2-1/2 weeks because I was extremely hungry, tired and was had gained 5 to 7lbs during the 2.5 weeks (same systems as if you were really pregnant). The only very nice thing about Trivora was that my boobs looked great!!! I am a b-cup and it went up to a full "C". Of'course that was probably due to the weight/water gain. I didn't feel good at all. I have never taken this type of birth control pill. I took it because it was an alternative to the name brand birth control pills that I normally take. I made a bad decision in getting these pill because I was saving money. I am not sexually active but, I wanted my periods to be regulated. Boy... I should have never made the decision to switch my name brand. On another positive note... my period for the month of June was very light, painless and short. However... my period for the month of July... still has not arrived. It feels like I am going to start but, I never do. Keep in mind... I am not sexually active... and I have never, ever missed a period aside from my two children that are 17 and 12 years old. I know that the Trivora pill has caused a side effect that I was not expecting. Since taking the pill I have gained approx. 10lbs in one month. Feeling bloated all the time because my period still has not started is something that no one wants. Yes... I feel depressed, stomach pains, nausea and I have frequents headaches. I would not recommend this pill to anyone. Hopefully my period will start so I can feel normal and not retaining water and have a constant bloating feeling.

Oh, My God! I was doing some research about some medicine I was prescribed by my doctor and was wondering what other people were saying about Yaz Birth Control Pill, and I must tell you I'm very surprised. I've been taking Yaz for exactly 2 years now, before it I've tried pretty much every kind that's on the market and had the most horrific side effects from them, not with Yaz though. I guess every person is different and what works for one doesn't mean it works for everyone else. However, I've been recommending it to everyone I know and people that have tried it - love it. I did experience some mild side effects, though, during my first few months. Before it, I had gained weight cause I stopped smoking a couple of months ago and the 1st month I took Yaz, I lost 15 pounds. I was amazed! I was told before I started it that it's like water pills and will not gain weight from it, my Dr. was right. I had no mood swings anymore, my period wasn't as long (my period come every 21 days and lasted for 8-9 days, with heavy bleeding and crucifying pain, especially the 1st days of my period) and I wasn't crying anymore from the terrible pain, I couldn't even feel like I had my period. The very down side for me was that I started developing brown spots all over my face and they started getting bigger and multiplied, but this pill gave me such comfort that I had to make the sacrifice and used a lot of foundation to cover it. Then all of the sudden my brown spots disappeared instantly on the six month of use and since then I've had no problems with Yaz, whatsoever. My skin is so clear, everyone that meets me compliment me on my complexion and many are so obviously jealous. Since Yaz, I pretty much have no mood swings or emotions whatsoever, I kind of feel like a man, I'm very calm, show no feelings, it takes a lot to get me off balance or to piss me off.
The 1st 3 months I started using it I had brown spotting, sometimes even seemed like bleeding and now I definitely feel like my libido has decreased, but knowing how I was before Yaz and having remembering the most terrible pain I felt when my period comes and no pain killer has ever worked on me, I must definitely say that the few side effects I've experienced are so definitely worth it. I'm not getting off Yaz anytime soon, I completely love it!
P.S. I'm 24 years old, started taking Yaz when I was 22, if you care to know my age. And before Yaz my Dr. has tried to put me on so many different birth control methods for many years, but none has survived me taking it for longer then 2 months until Yaz. I have a condition that can be treated by either birth control methods, sometimes by giving birth to a child or if neither don't work I had to have laser surgery every 2-3 years or even sooner. My doctor tried to put me on different birth controls over the years to full the hormones in my body, but from all I've tried I had such side effects. I was ovulating so much that it hurt to walk, I sometimes felt like I'd break my pelvic. I had constant infections from it and I guess because I live in Florida where the weather is so humid. I've tried changing my underwear every hour or even half hour in the summer to try to prevent getting yeast infection with still no luck. So, with Yaz I was reborn. I haven't had an infection since I started using it.
P.S.2 Oh, and whatever hair I have left unwaxed on my body is way less and no it didn't effect my scalp - I still have thick full hair on my head that grows fast. Plus my leg hair grows way slower then it used to and no I haven't change my hair removal products.
THANK YOU YAZ for making my life so much easier. I'll be forever grateful!

I’ve had two goes at taking Yasmin first time at 23, I had all of the above symptoms a breakdown and big anxiety attack which has never happen to me before so that came out of the blue, I was suspicious about the pill so I stopped taking it after that.

But silly me about at now 25 years old second time around I thought maybe it was me and not the pill but the second time has really confirmed it for me. I’ve suffered worse depressed suicidal thoughts sadness and not to mention no interest in sex all… these things have really affected my relationship with my partner and friends.

I am angry with myself for trying it again worst mistake… but now I guess its confirmed for me ill never be putting any type of birth control pill in my body again its not natural and not good for you.

And I will also mention I was on a totally different pill during high school because I had very bad period pain and my doctor recommended it and looking back now, I was at that time a very hostile and depressed girl everyone thought I was going through teenage adolescence and worried about me… but I now believe it was the pill because I never understood why I hated the world so much at school. Now I know that I will never put my children on these types of contraceptives and I hope other mothers think twice.

does anyone have excessive urination?i had my period 2 weeks ago and then had a little problem with my insurance and so I had my ring out longer than i was supposed to. Normally I pee an unbelievable amount at night-- sometime i will get up up to 8xs. But for the 1.5-2 weeks that my ring was out i didn't get up at night at all. Not once. Im really thinking about ditching this thing. any alternatives? (i cant take oral ones, i throw them right back up. ugh)

I was recently on Yasmin and have been for a long time, with every birth control pill i take i experience horrible breakthrough bleeding. So my doctor switched me to Femcon FE. The last one he switched me to was Loestrin 24 which was horrible i had every side effect, so i went back on Yasmin. after reading all the posts on Femcon FE im very hesitant and scared to start, Im worried this pill is very similar to LOestrin and im going to have the same side effects.

Yaz is the first birth control pill I've ever been on. I'm 21 and have not needed a birth control regimen until recently. It is my 7th day taking it. I was ordered to start Yaz on the first day of my period, which I did. My periods have always been 2-3 days long, mildly heavy with no cramps. Since starting Yaz, I am STILL on my period and am nauseous every single day. Everyone keeps telling me it's just because my body is not used to birth control, to wait it out, blah blah blah. But this is complete crap. Why am I gonna pay a co-pay every month to bleed longer and be nauseous every single day? Do any of you ladies think this is my body reacting normally to a new substance?

Hello Ladies...There are so many comments that I could not get through them all. I am in my 3rd month on Loestrin 24 Fe. The first month I thought that I just had to be pregnant too based on all the symptoms I was having. My period has yet to start when it is suppose to start or finish when it is suppose to finish. The second month I thought that I actually was having a 3 day period but about a week later I started bleeding again for about a week. My cramping has been a lot worse as well. I know that you are suppose to give your body time to adjust to it, but I am not sure I can wait it out with this pill.

My doctor told me before I even started taking this pill that no birth control pill is perfect and that they pretty much will all give you some type of negative side effect from nausea to weight gain to dryness to lack of sex drive. I appreciated her honesty. My thought is that when picking a birth control pill its like picking THE LESSER OF THE EVILS. My fiance and I would rather not get pregnant right now, but I feel like a different person and I miss me.

Possible ovarian cancer triggered by Yasmin.

You need to know this:

The present study suggests that circulating androgens and SHBG levels are *not* strongly associated with ovarian cancer risk,

although levels of fT may be associated with an increased risk among women diagnosed at relatively young age.

Cancer Epidemiol Biomarkers Prev. 2007 Jan;16(1):23-9

Free testosterone (fT)

Increased levels of estrogen stimulate ***increased levels of testosterone***and androgen (increased body hair).

Unlike all the other BC pills...

"Yasmin birth control pill is different than other traditional combined oral contraceptives.

Though it is combined of estrogen (ethinyl estradiol) and progestin (drsp), which has the unique properties than other progestin based pills available in the market. In other combined pills,

***progesin is derived from testosterone***

whereas in Yasmin with drsp, progestin is derived from spironolactone."

We need progesin to come from testosterone to prevent ovarian cancer. We have to LOWER testosterone.

If you have dry eyes...heads up! And get a pelvic ultrasound. If it shows cysts...while most are benign and common...some are NOT.

Yaz was my first birth control pill. I have been taking Yaz for the past 2 weeks and I just started my third week. The first week was Ok but I started feeling some side effects since last week: occasional cramping, often feel like throwing up, feeling down, and feeling moody. I called my obgyn and she asked that I try to cope up with the side effects for a month. She said I could take Tylenol for the cramps. If it becomes unbearable she is going to have me switch to the vaginal ring.

I am going to give it a month but if the symptoms don't go away I am going to switch to something else..

I was just discharged from the hospital on Saturday. I had been taking Yasmin for almost two years now and until recently, had no problems. Last Wednesday I went to the ER for severe pain and inability to breath with my left lung. They admitted me after finding a blood clot in the right, as a result of Yasmin! Turns out, I had pneumonia in the left and since I had no symptoms that the clot was there, the pneumonia saved my life! I too had to take those fun Lovenox shots in the stomach and now I'm on Coumadin for 6 months. I am 29 years old, never smoked a day in my life. I do not drink, I am a healthy weight and I work out regularly. I do not have a history of blood clots in the family. How could this happen especially with a drug my doctors told me was safe?

With the amount of occurrences, I'm interested in a class action lawsuit as well. I will never take a birth control pill again EVER.

I took loestrin 24 for two months.my doctor recommended it because im low in iron and it's supposed to give you shorter pieriods(haha). In reality I had my pierod two weeks before it was supposed to start and then again on the last week of the month.
I experienced hair loss crying and severe depression, when i no reason to be sad or depressed.I stopped taking loestrin two weeks ago. I feel almost back to normal.
I have never had such bad side effects from a birth control pill.this whole experience has really opened my eyes about taking birth control or any medicine with out really looking into the side effects first.
