Hi all, I'll be finishing up my first week on Loestrin this Sunday. My OBGYN put me on this due to overlong periods and bad cramping. This is my first experience with a BC, so I'm a little bit nervous about it. For the past several days, I have been getting really nauseous. It's not a constant thing, one minute I'm fine and the next I feel like I need to dart in to the bathroom. I'm not too worried about any weight gain because that is something that I could probably use, but the nausea is concerning me a bit. I have to go back to the gyno sometime next week, so I can probably ask about it there, but reading the comments on this page has got me a little bit nervous. Should I try to wait it out and see if things get better, so should I quit while I'm ahead?

HI, it's great to hear of other people having the same difficulties as I had on yasmin. I was on it for 12 months, and experienced low libido, mood swings like crazy and just felt like a different person (my husband did too!). it was great for my skin, but had to go off it to return to being a normal person. I've been off for over 12 months now, and am considering going back on a pill again, but am a bit nervous about experiencing more mood swings and depressive feelings. i just want to be nomal!

Dear Sophie,

YES, I know that "eye problem", too and it's still coming up sometimes (though very seldom!!!), and remember, I've been OFF Yasmin for about 1,5 years now!! Well, it's not as bad and severe as it was around 4 months off it but it comes up some days, especially, when I'm under stress or so.

And another thing: It gets worse around ovulation or shortly before my period (should) start or starts! My mum was telling me, that around the time of your period you naturally feel a bit nervous, even without taking the pill, and so I think it's normal, that this thing with your eyes is "happening". I always called and call it "nervous eyes". That's how it feels. I then can't focus on anything and it feels as if my eyes go their own way, while I'm trying to read something or watch something...

In my research during the last year I found out, that the hypothalamus, the "central" of your hormonal control, is at that point of your brain, where the optic nerves are crossing. That's how I explain the visual problems, that I always had since taking Yasmin!! During taking it I needed new glasses for reading and such nearly every few weeks, because my visual acuity was permanently changing!! One week the glasses were ok, the other week they gave me dizziness and headaches, because they didn't work anymore for me!!

One very important thing: I NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS with my vision BEFORE YASMIN!!!!! That's absolutely sure!!!!

The headache thing:

Well, if you're afraid, that something might be wrong with your brain, you should really go and see a neurologist, perhaps have a MRI done, just to reassure yourself, that there really is nothing (which I really believe!!). I think that could help you to calm down and not worry about a really severe problem any longer. I had that MRI and thousands of other checks done, too, until I and my family doctor could be really sure, that there was nothing else causing my problems!!

I think you now after reading my posts, what I'm thinking about those antidepressant stuff... I took such stuff for only one week, because I really didn't know what else to do, but I got off it as fast as I got on because it was giving me even more problems than before... Everyone is reacting different and I think, if you really can't bare those headaches any longer, you should give it a try. But think twice about it and have some research (google) done, before you perhaps might get even more or other problems caused by that stuff...

You've asked about my period... Well, it really was another hard 2 weeks to get through for me. I really felt very weak and unsure and was afraid, that everyghing might be coming back....... But gladly I was WRONG!! :) I think my body just has its problems getting back used to that hormonal changes and especially the blood loss (and I had very heavy bleedings for about 3 - 4 days). Around one week after my period everything got better and now I'm fit again!! (and I don't have to tell you, how happy I am!!!).

Sophie, stay strong, look at me and keep going on!! You'll be there someday again, too, I swear!! Keep on posting and if there is anything you worry about: ask here in the forum!!!

It's the most valuable thing we have in all that agony, that we keep going each other by sharing our experiences during that Yasmin nightmare!!

God bless you all!!

Silke

I started taking Yasmin the day that I went back to college for my sophomore year. Normally, I would be a little bit nervous and homesick, but nothing like the complete nightmare I have lived the past week. I started having little panic attacks all the time, feeling nervous and anxious, I couldn't eat or sleep, and I cried all of the time. These symptoms started only a day after I started the pill. I called my gyno and she convinced me that Yasmin RARELY caused these problems and that probably wasn't the cause of my anxiety and depression. I am normally a very independent, emotionally strong person, so I knew that the pill had to be affecting me, not school. My problems became so bad that my mother had to come up to my university and stay an entire weekend, because everyone was so worried about me. I ended up talking to lots of girls about my problems with Yasmin, and, as it turns out, almost ALL of the girls I talked to who were on some kind of birth control went through the exact same thing that I experienced. A lot of them went off of the pill totally, and others searched for another kind or a lower dosage. I have been off of the pill for almost 60 hours now (yes, I'm counting the hours) and I already feel a little bit better.

I just want to say how happy I am I found this site. My doc prescribed Singulair for me after I mentioned a friend of mine takes it for her allergies and it seems to help. My Zyrtec seemed to 'run out of steam' for me so I thought I'd try Singulair (for chronic allergies). I've been putting off taking it and continuing my Zyrtec because I was a bit nervous about trying it for some reason. I'm currently weaning off of Paxil which brings with it its own set of horrible symptoms. After reading through these posts I'm NOT going to take Singulair and stick w/my Zyrtec and wait for my Flonase nasal spray to kick in. I shudder to think what symptoms might have been added to the heck I'm going through with this Paxil w/d! Thank you so much everyone!!!

I have been on ovcon 35 for about 3 1/2 weeks and have already begun to experience side effects. within the first 2 weeks I didn't notice anything too drastic but the past week/ week and a half they have begun to spring up like wildfire. I have been naseous throughtout the duration I have been on this but I also have an ulcer so I figured it was caused by that. Also I have been overly emotional and moody at points during my cycle where I never used to be. I began to experience what my mother told me was morning sickness ( naseua in the morning and stomach aches when I first wake up), I have agined about 3 or 4 lbs, my breasts have been extremely sore and sensitive and I also feel as if they are getting larger but they stopped growing about 2 years ago. The first two weeks i had spotting and my period came very early this month (the 3rd week instead of the 4th). This morning I experienced a very painful charlie horse in my leg which i have never previously gotten.. these side effects seem to be the norm after reading all the other posts but this is my first BCP and im a little bit nervous. It was prescribed to me because i have very painful menstrual cramps which, at times, have caused me to pass out from the pain. Does anyone have any recomendations of another BCP I could possibly use with different side effects or should I stay on this one??
