I had a hysterectomy and developed nightsweats and hot flashes. The doctor gave me the Vivelle patch and I was fine for 3 months. I took it off for about 4 months until the hot flashes returned. I went back on it for a month and out of no where I started to have mini black outs. I also had neck pain, numbness and a dull headache. I was rushed to the ER after an episode and was checked out from head to toe. They could not find anything wrong with me. I had put a new patch on one day and noticed the symptoms getting worse. I have taken it off since and everyday feel better. The doctor's are not convinced it is the patch but I know my body and feel it is the cause of all my symptoms.

Crikey - I've been thinking about taking the NuvuRing on advice from the Family Planning Clinic. Thank you for everyone for sharing their experiences. I definitely won't now! While most people probably have great experiences, there are countless examples of side effects listed below that are too extreme to even risk having a good experience (blood clots, black outs, migraines, numbness, insomnia, lower sex drive, depression/suicidal thoughts, body swelling, painful sex/sexual organs, candida, weight gain and the list goes on and on). It's incredible that this is on the market and has gotten through the testing stages.

I took the pill for about a decade and went off it three years ago, mostly because I was over taking something every day and felt I was gaining a bit of weight and had a slightly lower sex drive. After going off it, sex changed (slightly elevated sex drive and easier organsms but less intense) but no change to weight (damn those extra three kilos!). I did lose the horrible brown pigmentation stain on my forehead (which was my initial only conern with the NuvaRing can you believe!) and my skin has remained clear. I have been much more sensitive to thrush/candida though since going off the pill, which my Dr said was due to changed hormonal levels due to such a prolonged time on the pill (10 yrs).

Since '05, I've been using a diaphram which has been fine. It's annoying to have to stop for that 60 seconds and put it in before sex, but I've had no major problems with vaginal skin irritations (very minor) and can feel it slightly during sex, but no where near the extent of condoms and the feeling is about 90%+ as good as without. Noting the issues raised on this site, I think I'll stick with the diaphram as I think I want to stay away from hormone options and the fiddliness before sex is a small price to pay by the sounds of things.

Sounds like the decision to take use the NuvaRing should be a carefully considered one.

Within 5 days of beginning course of Geodon, 40mg daily, doc doubled my dosage to 80mg, began to have problems. Intensely manic, easily frightened, insomnia, terrifying dreams. I decided to get out of hospital ASAP and decide if to quit taking Geodon.
On day six already my face was twitching, was irritable and manic, pacing, increasingly manic throughout day, decided to skip evening dose, keep total dosage same as before, 40mg. Began tripping around midnight and it was all downhill from there. Sleepless all night, by morning I had convulsions, increased heart rate, fear and anxiety, psychosis, uncontrollable crying. Had another seizure 12 hours later. Slept a little with help of Valium. Next day developed Parkinson's like symptoms, had my father not been there to help me, Lord knows what would have happened to me. Still awake in day 3 of withdrawal. Hoping the worst is over.

Took leviquin 500 for 8 days before I realized what was happening to me. Side effects included: severe panic, altered mental state, constant sleep, loss of appetite, pounding heart rate. After 2 trips to the ER no help was provided. I stoped the Leviquin early (was supposed to take it for 3 wks) and immediately started feeling better. The anxiety is much less but still present and I still sleep all the time.

Has anyone had similar experiences and, more importantly, how long does this last?

Please help!

starting the ring was awful for me, more so the 2nd month then the first, very dissy, to the point of not walking, black outs while driving. I was put on it for the massive pms problems. It might be endo I dont know, i am stuck in the battle of the doctors atm, and most all women in my family have it. b4 i started the ring i would cramp up to one week b4 starting my period. Now I constantly cramp all month, and my chest pains which are associated with my panic disorder has increased and my doctor put me on zoloft and visitine. As far as my mood has been going my depression has come back along with lack of sleep and night terrors. I have actually lost weight on the ring and my acne has cleared up with the aid of some cleaners. I have had no trouble with it feeling or acting like its going to fall out at any times, and i dont feel its there. The only reason i know its there is because of the light constant cramping i have during most of the month. I was on the path a few years ago and prefer the ring to the patch over any day. The path had far worse effects on my mood changes, i was on that for a year and things kept getting worse and it did not help with my cramps or bleeding, infact when i came off it my cramps had doubled. There are time i want to take the ring out but I am going to stick with it and hope for the best. But the ring is great for those of us that have a bad memory and there is a computer program that can be downloaded onto your computer that will remind you when to change it out. That is a very helpful aid!

MY HUSBAND WAS RETAINING ALOT OF WATER IN HIS LEGS AND VERY WEAK. THE DOCTOR HAD DONE A NUMBER OF TESTS ON HIM TO FIND OUT THAT HE HAS NEPHRITIS AND WAS LOSING 8,500 MG OF PROTEIN IN URINE A DAY (NORMAL IS 100-200 MG PER DAY), AND COLESTEROL WAS AT 400. HE WAS PUT ON PREDNIZONE AND ALSO HAD A KIDNEY BIOPSY. WE WERE MARRIED 1 WEEK PROIR TO HIM BEING PUT ON PREDNIZONE AND IT HAS BEEN PRETTY TOUGH TO DEAL WITH. HE WOULD COMPLAIN OF ALL THE SAME SYMPTONS, WEAKNESS, BACK PAIN, NAUSEA, BLACK OUTS, MAJOR WEIGHT GAIN, AND CRAMPS THAT WOULD KNOCK HIM ON THE GROUND. I NEVER REALIZED PREDNIZONE WAS SO BAD. I FEEL ALOT OF GUILT BECAUSE I WOULD SAY OH, IT CAN'T BE THAT BAD. I FEEL HORRIBLE NOW READING ALL OF THE OTHER COMPLAINTS. HE HAS ABOUT 1 MONTH TO GO WITH 60 MG OF PREDNIZONE A DAY AND WATER PILLS.

I am 20 years old and I was just recently put on Toprol (25Mg) because I have low blood pressure and have black-outs and pass out. Toprol has made me very tired and I have had a few sharp pains in my chest. I'm still not sure why I was given a drug that is used for high blood pressure when I have low blood pressure.

I suppose one reason is because before I pass out my blood pressure aparently, unbeknowst to me, increases and taking Toprol will help balance me out. If anyone has any more ideas I'm open to hear them.

was put on effexor-XR for post natal depression five days ago. As of tomorrow I am going to stop taking them as I have never experienced anything like it. I have a four month old daughter who I am to scared to hold as I am having severe vertigo and I am also having black outs. Ive done things that i have no recollection of doing, one of them included me remembering walking out of a shopping centre and the next thing i knew i was in my car. I had crossed two busy roads in the mean time and im not even sure if i looked to see if any cars were coming. I also sleep alot and i have no emotinal feelings what so ever. Im not to be left alone with my daughter in case something happens as i also suffer form tremors in the hands Would love to hear from anyone who has had similar side effects.

I was on neurontin for pain from nerve damage which ocurred during a lung biopsy last April. I had very mild side effects while increasing dosage. About 6 weeks after starting the drug, I experienced severe tooth pain that migrated around my mouth. After several visits to the dentist, and losing the ability to drive or work because of the severe pain, my Dr. determined that the neurontin was causing the problem. I quickly weaned myself off it and the tooth pain disappeared immediately. I have lately began suffering unexplained black-outs with no warning indicators or any other symptoms. My Dr. thinks they may be seizures. Has anyone experienced this after taking neurontin? CC

I have been taking Yasmin for 13 months now. The firrt few months were great, then I started to experience black outs, and terrible head aches. I didn't make the connection that this could be caused by Yasmin, until I realized these episodes were always the week of, or up to three days after my period was over. The head aches are so bad now that I have to wear sun glasses and take Vicadin to get through the day. The pain lasts for three days, regularly. My blood pressure is elevated during the days that I have head aches. I have just decided to change pills this month. I'll know conclusively, this time next month if the head aches and black outs don't return, that it was this medication.

I am 62 with adult asthma, GERD and high blood pressure -was under great control with my meds, changed doctors and on first visit he puthad me start taking Advair 100/50 July 2003. I went from mild manner grandmother to an agressive one in less than two weeks; headaches; progressed to being tired all the time, took nap in the morning and afternoon; reflux all the time standing, sitting or laying down; bad taste in mouth; dizzy and small black outs; excessive sinus drainage/congestion; irrated throat; coughing. On 10-22-2003 went back to pulmonery dr for check up, at that time my blood pressure was up had gained 5 pounds and was told my symptoms were not caused by Advair and that he would see me again in 3 months. I stoped Advair on 11-3--2003 and went back to my original meds. I had an appointment with my gastroentrolst 11-5-2003 for the constant reflux, being as I had just had a flex-sig exam 9 months previous he was not concerned just to watch what i was eating and know he did not think it was from the Advair because the Advair should be out of my system after 24 hours. I changed pulmonary doctors and saw my new one on 11-17-2003. He left me on my original meds and said some people do not tolerate the Advair but my asthma, and blood pressure was under control, the reflux, sore throat i still had. Since this time i have had a bladder infection 12-2-2003 (last one i had had was 40 yrs ago) and am now fighting the loss of my voice(since 1-15-2004) I am on a round of an 1000-mg of amoxicillin for infection of the larynx. But was also told by the ENT dr that this would not be caused by Advair.
I was feeling great until I took Advair and now I have no energy, I am drowning in my reflux and fighting infections from who knows where. Thanks for your website it helps me to know that i'm not alone.
