I have been on yasmin for about 5 years. I loved it to begin with but just recently I have been having horrible side effects that i just realized could be related. I just thought i was a 21 yr old with problems. i am having heart palpitations, hair loss, insomnia, anxiety, vision problems, UTI's, lightheadedness and blackouts, and CHRONIC migraines. I am having about 3 migraines a week! they are disrupting my life. it is weird that i was fine on the meds for so long and they are just now resulting in this. I am stopping the pill as of today and i am going to talk to my doctor about other options. i am thinking about ortho tri cyclin lo. i have to be on a birth control because i have had endometriosis and my doctor said it is less possible to come back if i am on a birth control. she mentioned the shot but i have heard bad stories about that too and i don't think i want to go there.

I used to be on tri-cyclen for about 3yrs, and it gave me terrible side effects like constant nausea, depression, weakness,it messed with my pH and irritated my acid reflux disease badly, it took me so long to realize and then i was switched to Yasmin. I had been off all bc for a month and i felt great, started Yasmin and within 2 weeks i noticed my depression worsening and my sex drive dropped very much, I feel like I have developed IBS, my weight dropped randomly and I experienced lightheadedness and blackouts, I also became b12 deficient and need supplements, my periods were only 3 days long but I got bad cramps which i had never experienced before and even now after 2 months their just as bad as they were, I cant sleep properly anymore and my blood pressure and heart rate have increased, I get numbness and palpitations and I really notice this because I smoke and already have some sort of circulatory problems. I also felt weird pains/twitching in my stomach and lower body, most of these symptoms i still experience... I was only on it for 4 months before i quit all bc pills altogether. I'm only 19 years old and I feel like this pill has caused me some serious heath problems and discomfort, we all need more healthy birth control options...

I started taking Aviane approximately 3 weeks ago because of my irregular menstrual cycle. I'm only 17, and since I was relatively healthy, my family doctor told me that there would be no serious side-effects. About 2 weeks into the pills, I started to experience shortness of breath and a constant pressure on my chest, near my thyroid gland. A few days ago, I had gone numb on one side of my body and lost some circulation to my right arm. Just last night, I was admitted into the emergency room because I had trouble breathing, nausea, tightness in my chest, dry throat/hard to swallow, tremors, near blackouts, fatigue, dizziness, weakness in my limbs, and heart palpations. They took tests and said all of them came back negative, but they still want me to check up with my family doctor soon. Apparently it was an allergic reaction to the chemicals in Aviane, but since estrogen and progesterone are natural hormones found in the body, I wasn't so sure. I had a fever last night, and my body could not stop shaking. We've contacted a few nurses, and they suggest I might be experiencing some of the side-effects of Aviane as well as a possibility of a viral infection. I don't think the benefits of Aviane are really worth it. I've been spotting ever since I started; my appetite increased along with my weight (I'm a bit underweight though so it's not that much of a problem); and obvious mood swings. I doubt many people will react to Aviane the same way as me, but it's very possible. So make sure you talk to your doctor about any possible side-effects and make sure you really want to start taking them. I haven't tried any other brands of the Pill, but I don't think I'm going to be starting any again anytime soon.

The reason is when you stop taking the Lipitor, and your symptoms don't go away is this: Lipitor cause hearing loss, which is what causes the Tinnitus! I have been having severe tinnitus for months now, seen all kinds of Dr.s who didn't have a clue. And I finally went to the House Ear Clinic, and they told me what it was, but they didn't know how I got it. I got Tinnitus a few months after my Dr. upped my dose. It's taken me this long to put the puzzle together. The Physician's Desk Reference lists hearing loss, tinnitus, and dizziness as side effects of Lipitor. I am appalled that not one Dr. asked me what kind of medication I was taking!

I have been on Lamictal now for 10 months, and I mostly love it.

But my IQ went down about 20 points. The first few months were very bad--I could hardly complete a sentence without forgetting one or two words. My short-term memory was scary bad--almost like blackouts where I wouldn't even remember events when reminded.

Those things have abated somewhat, but I am still having to adjust to a lower ability to think. I must make lists, I must repeat instructions and directions. Perhaps this is more about slowing down what was a hyperactive brain, but it is a side-effect that is hard to accept.

I am noticing a new side effect, though. I drop things all the time. I recently dropped a book I was reading--how does that happen?

Has anyone noticed this dropping, or any other clumsiness like this?

I am a 60 yr. old woman and was on simvastatin for several years before I realized that all of my aches, pains, and muscle weakness could be because of it. I stopped taking it in March, and had very little improvement until June when I started taking 100 mg CoQ10 twice a day. I am now pretty much pain free but the muscles in my thighs are still very weak, and I am still very fatigued. Anybody have any suggestions?

Hi everyone,
I cannot live without xanax and its terrible, I have been on them for 5 months and have tried to stop them and its a nightmare. I suffer memory loss, have blackouts that I do not remember what I have said after a few drinks. It does help ease the social anxiety. But I have become moody, sleepy. . Does anyone else have these problems?

Anjamaka,
Like you I have taken BCPs since the age of 18 and like you I did not suffer any side effects, I took Yasmin in 2001 with no side effects at all for nearly 4 years when I started to feel really bad :horrendous muscle cramps/ blackouts, hypoglycemia, lost of energy, arthritis, earache, fatigue, heart palpitations etc etc...and I have a very healthy life, I eat well and exercise regularly. When I stopped Yasmin 4 years after, these symptoms went away!! So don't say that we are complaining and wait until your time comes!!

Wow you are all a bunch of complainers who try and blame XYZ on Yasmin which probably have ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with the pills. I have bee diagnosed with PCOS and have been on hormone therapy since age 15, first zovia, which worked well enough but did not get rid of a lot of my symptoms, only lessened them somewhat, so now I am on yaz. My depression has completely subsided, I feel GREAT and only had some nausea which almost EVERYONE gets when taking a hormone therapy birth control pill. Trust me, if you are going to have SIDE EFFECTS it is not going to happen 4 YEARS LATER, please.... grow up and take responsibility for yourselves, rather than trying to blame a pill

ok i have been taking topomax for about roughly 7 years. at one time it got so bad with the memory loss they put me on the alzhimers med. that they proscribe for about everyone with alzhimers. i have had clumps of hair fall out so they put in a prescription for hair loss. i once weighed 100 lbs size 0 im 5 ft tall and i am usually about a 7-8 . the topomax i was taking it for my toruretts syndrome and every so often it causes a clich ill have face freezing that will last for and hour to 3 days or make it worse. ill get hives i get aggressive angerd very easily at the drop of a pin and wont eat at all because i forget i forget everything i once stared at a wall for 3 hours i couldn't move my body or eyes my mind went blank like someone shut off the electricity . plus bad acne ( um when i first took it it was like i was getting high with my entire body tingling like when ur foot has fallen asleep even my eyes felt like that) i have sufford some vision problems everyday and forget what and where i was going it has made me have some psychological problems increase
i have now recently stopped taking it i still get rashes i am always cold hair is still falling out still hear a ring in my ears i see things that aren't there like little firecrackers going off in my vision or blackouts like when u get a migraine i am always itching tingly all the time aggravated all the time
but now i eat i have gained like close to 20 lbs but i am more focussed in some things it helps when i am in class to stay focussed but not really because im not used to being so alert but i think i like not feeling foggy anymore

My daughter 8 has been on Advair 3 years for asthma. Prior to, she was always a happy little girl, fit and healthy.

Some of the new things I noticed as the months progressed were severe mood swings, weight gain, and unexplained reoccurring rash on her feet, legs and thighs. They appeared like Mosquito bites and turned into blisters, not the pediatrician or even an Dermatologist could diagnose it, yet it would appear almost monthly. She has complained of "bubbles" in her eyesight, she developed this squinting, we had her eyes checked several times by eye doctors but told there was nothing wrong.
She has also experienced blackouts, after extensive tests a Neurologist concluded that she had Aura (sp?) migraines and referred to her squinting as a tick.
I feel like I have lost 3 years of my child's life that I cannot get back. She finally has been weaned off it. It has been only a few days with no Advair. I hope for no lasting adverse affects.
My 5 year old daughter has just been diagnosed with asthma and I noticed he is no longer prescribing Advair for children, I would refuse it, if he did.

I had trouble with my vision, sweating more than usual, mania and then about 4 days after my dose was increased to 150mg from 75mg I I suffered from blackouts, confusion, suicidal thoughts, suicidal actions which resulted in a stand off with the police. I have been in and out of the mental hospital for the past month until I refused to take anymore anti depressants and became stable on my own. I still have some panic attacks and nightmares which I have never had before in my life. I would advise any one who is prescribed this medication to report all side effects they are experiencing to their doctor because once you start blacking out it's too late for you reach out for help. I will never take another drug that interferes with the chemicals in my brain and am seeking counsiling to deal with my social anxiety disoder rather than taking meds.

I have been experiencing very brief blackouts (fainting). I don't know if the Lisinopril is the cause but that would be my first guess. In the middle of the night I wake up with bad stomach cramps and diarrhea. When I am in the bathroom on the toilet my stomach hurts really bad and the next thing I know I wake up on the bathroom floor with my face cut open. The first time I slit my eyebrow (which had to be glued) and this time it was my chin. I am 24 years old and don't know what could be causing this? I am presribed 80 mg. which I take at night along with a sleep aid called Trazadone. The first time the doctor told me I was dehydrated and this time I have no clue. Could Lisionpril be causing these episodes and if so why didn't the doctor tell me? After the episodes I am very hot and sweaty, face bleeding, dizzy, and lots of diarrhea. I have never done anything like this before and I am very worried about this. I am also very tired of cutting my face and the scars! Please help and give me some insight. Thank you, Anna

I have been on Topamax for about a month now. I take it b/c I have suffered from migraines since the age of three. I have not had a migraine since, and would normally have one five times a week. As for the side affects, the soda being flat was one that I noticed right away, and I had already done my research, so it was no surprise. Heartbreaking, yes, but expected. The tingling of the extremities is a big one for me, one of which I am slowly getting used to. I could stand to lose a few pounds, but have not seen if the weight loss thing really affects me; I think it really depends on the individual. Thankfully, I have not experienced any of the memory loss or blackouts. No major mood swings. My appetite has stayed the same. I have noticed that I seem to have some bumps on my lower leg that are not bug bites that I am going to ask the doctor about. I am a smoker, and wonder if this somehow could play a part with the Topamax and the bumps. Anyone? Overall, it's been a short time, but I have had amazing results for why I am taking it! I wish everyone well

I've been on Yasmin for nearly 4 years and decided to stop taking this pill because like most of you I felt REALLY bad!! I had symptoms like cramps in my feet and legs, regular blackouts (I was taken to ER everytime), dizziness, shortness of breath, migraines, ear congestion, complete lack of energy and worst of all anxiety. I've also developed arthritis in my right shoulder for which I went to see a physio and thank god it is getting better.
I saw so many doctors and none of them could find anything wrong with me and none of them had the wonderful feeling that this may have been caused by Yasmin. When I told them I wanted to stop the pill, they told me there was no reason why and that I should carry on. So that was my decision to stop it and a very good one!! The doctors are wrong !
I am off Yasmin now since 1st of July 06 and it's only now that I start to feel better! I've been through so many weird symptoms: pains and swelling in both of my calves, cramps in my legs (streching helps!), nausea, heavy sweating during the night, my ears feel like they are blocked but no more of the other symptoms (blackouts have not come back)and my periods have come regularly but are very short (3 days).... My body is recovering and my calves are getting better. I also found out that I start to get cellulitis on my legs (what a nightmare), I was told by a friend that' s because of the pill!!
I am now full of energy, the anxiety has gone (I can face the world now), and I am determined NOT TO GO BACK on any C pills anymore.
I am 38 years old and have been on different pills since the age of 19, I would like to know if anybody of my age (or anybody) experienced symptoms like mine after they stopped Yasmin and how long it takes for them to disappear....

Hi everyone,
It has been a while since I posted so I wanted to say hello and let you know that things do get better. I am now 8 months Yasmin-free. I am still on the effexor xr (still 37.5mg/day) for the anxiety that the Yasmin caused. I am totally off of Xanax now and cannot wait to be off of the effexor.
My bloodwork came back this week. Thank God that my thyroid and almost everything else is now OK. However, my cholesterol and triglycerides are way too high. And... since starting effexor, I gained 15 lbs. I need to get off of it, but the doc won't let me.
But the good news is that the tremors, the blackouts, leg pains, palpitations, brain zaps etc.... that I was experiencing on Yasmin are pretty much gone. And, I am so much better to my husband and kids now that I am off of the evil "Yasminpoison"!
I am in my mid-30's and never thought that this would happen to me. I lost so much time off of my life because of that little poison pill.
Your posts are so powerful and help me understand that I am alone in this. You should never feel alone in this, so many of us have suffered and are suffering terrible effects of Yasmin.
take care everyone!

My sister is currently on her 5th month of the Lupron shot. She has had serious, and unexplained complications that her doctors have been dissmissing as not results from the shot. She lost 45 lbs in less than 3 months, has high blood pressure, and recently blackouts. Her first resulted in only stitches, but the second time she was behind the wheel, and almost died. Now the doctors have banned her from driving, and are sending her to see Nuerologist, and Cardiologist for exams. They still say this is not a result of Lupron. Our family tends to dissagree.

Michellep~

I just read your post and I am soo sorry you have been treated this way! I am in medical school right now and I am very concerned for you! The symptoms you are describing are very consistent with a blood clot in your leg. One of the most dreadful side effects of birth control pills is what they call DVTs (blood clots in the deep veins in your leg). The part we worry about is that the clot can break off little pieces and send them to your lungs, heart and brain. The vision changes could unfortunately be a sign of that already happening. I know that going to the ER sucks and can many times be a financial burden, but as a tax-payer (more than willing to have my tax dollars go to your hospital bill) and a medical student...please go to the ER!! If you start having pain in your chest or blackouts of any kind, dial 911. The ER has to treat you and you don't have to sign their forms saying you will pay. You have to give consent, but they can always write what you don't pay off. Your life is worth it!
(ps, you might want to get a different regular MD)

As for the leg, take a couple aspirin. Not tylenol or ibuprofin (advil, motrin, etc.), not aleve either. Get some good old-fashioned aspirin (bayer, etc.) It will help take the swelling down, cut the pain a bit and it will help your blood clot less if you indeed do have a blood clot.

Please let me know how things turn out!

kelly

I was on effexor for over 2 months and I had a false sense of well being. I felt like I was behind a curtain and all my problems were on the other side. Still there, just hiding. I took myself off of the drug, because I thought that I could make it on my own. Coming off this drug was pure hell. I had a couple of blackouts while driving, and also forgot where I was when I was in a hot shower. I have been off of it now for 3 weeks and 1 day, and Just finally am I feeling better. A friend told me that it would be out of my system in 48 hours, and it took alot longer. My appetite is getting better and I dont get as easily annoyed.
My theory is that if people want you to take drugs so that they will like you better, send them packing.
Good luck to each and all of you

My son started taking singulair in 1999 when he was 12. He was also taking Flonase, Flovent, and Claritin. Currently he is taking Singulair and Clarinex only. He takes these medications year round for asthma and allergy problems. Over the past few years we have gone through an emotional hell that is difficult to describe. Let's just say he has been through counseling and is currently in anger management. I thought that these were life related things.... but he says it isn't and that life isn't bad. He can't name anything he is angry about. Basically, he's a kind, gentle and happy guy. Now he is experiencing blackouts when he is awake. Sounds strange doesn't it. He can't sleep during the night, hears people talking (not to him), sees things that aren't really there but only for a second, and has asked me to get him some help because he feels like he is going crazy. He scares himself. He is 19. I made an appt with a neurologist but the end of February is the soonest we can get in. I would tell him to stop taking it now but just missing one day produces major panic attacks... in a physical sense. I urge parents to try other avenues before singulair, then monitor it closely. It is a dopamine agonist and messing with the receptors or storage modes of dopamine does not appear to be a good idea.

Hello. this is my first post. I started taking Lupron four days ago. I am preparing for ivf in a few weeks. I ahve read the side effects but doctor told me the most would be a headache. I took tylenol on the first day, and hada slight headache anyways. The second day was betetr, but still had headache, not bad enough to take tylenol. yesterday was my third injection. I started to feel a little lightheaded during the day and sometimes felt I may pass out, but never did. I am also experiencing a little trouble with my eyes, but it could be my contacts needing to be cleaned. I ahve had my forth Lupron injection today and I ahve a slight headache already. I read that someone said the Lupron causes lack of glucose getting to the brain, I know that low blood sugar can cause headache, dizziness and even blackouts. I only take 10 units everyday, and it will be only for 20 days. Has anyone out there used it like I am starting to ? I will not be taking for long periods of time and do not have any medical problems at all. I am taking Lupron so I can carry a child for a friend. Would like to know if anyone is in the same situation as I am.
thanks!
