Im so glad I found this site. I thought I'm going crazy. I have been using Advair for 2 years now, and started taking it 2 times a day 3 months ago. I experienced severe depression, frequent dental visits due to loss of bone (im 39, thats far too early and I never had problems like that before).

I have been on Snythroid for 20 years. I had radiation treatment. I have experienced weight gain and most recently I think my hair is thinning. I take 1 0.15mg everyday except Sunday.I was reading a book that said the medication can cause loss of bone mass. I have been taking 1000 mg of Calcium a day. If you don't get those levels checked you will feel terrible! Take it from me! Thanks for sharing snythroid family

Under the link I just mentioned you can find this:
Sir,
Kingman et al.'s success in controlling menorrhagia in women with inherited bleeding disorders (BJOG 111:1425–1428) echoes numerous reports in women without complicating haematological conditions. However, they ignore the metabolic effects. The LNG-IUS is associated with high systemic absorption of the progestogen, and serum levels of levonorgestrel (LNG) have been recorded around 511 pmol/L.1 This is the equivalent of two LNG-containing minipill tablets daily continuously. LNG suppresses Apolipoprotein AI (Apo AI) formation by inhibiting the ABCA1 transporter protein.2 The synthesis of Apo AI is a fundamental step in the initiation of reverse cholesterol transport, which is enhanced by oestradiol and statins and when deficient, the ensuing atherosclerosis in animal models can be reversed by the administration of Apo AI.3
The epidemiological observation of the relationship of breast cancer with the use of progestogen only contraceptives goes to the 1980s,4 but these were mentally rejected by many physicians because it did not conform with the doctrine of ‘oestrogen induced’ mammary carcinogenesis. The validity of the latter hypothesis was challenged in a randomised clinical trial of oestrogen only treatment5 and a wealth of biological data show that progesterone and progestogens in general and LNG in particular being established mammary epithelial mitogens.
The LNG-IUS also suppresses oestrogen production, inducing a clinical situation not unlike a premature menopause in at least 50% of treated women. Oestrogen deprivation for the number of years such treatment is being administered will have a profound effect on bone mass and vascular reactivity. Similar concerns have recently been widely circulated regarding the use of depot MPA contraceptive preparations.
Given that it is unlikely that a randomised controlled trial of the size of the Women's Health Initiative one will ever be mounted to test the long term effects of the LNG-IUS, caution is required, particularly in treating older women, for whom treatment may bring forward the menopause.
The idea that LNG-IUS works entirely as a local progestogen should be revised, and patients and doctors should be warned about the metabolic and carcinogenic risks, whatever the marketing pressures.

I am 24 and was on "the shot" for 2 1/2 years, I always had problems with spotting and felt really depressed (would cry easily, very sensitive). I was pretty much bleeding daily but didn't do anything about it. I was really out of touch with reality - it was really alarming when my doctor said casually that I should do a bone density test because taking it for more than 2 years could decrease your bone mass. What caused my to get off of the shot was that my provider quit carrying it in their office and not realizing it when I set up an appt. I was to late to get it...etc. I felt especially depressed after that. Finally after a several months of not being on it, I started to feel back to normal. This was just my personal experience and I would not recommend using depo.

Hello,
I read about how YAZ birth control pill affects the body and psych and I am now scared. This is my 2nd day of YAZ (I've never been on birth control pills ever and I am 27 years old), it's all new to me but after reading all these negative posts about Yaz I don't know what to do. Before the birth control pills, I was depressed, annoying, serious weight problems - 210 lbs :~~((, low energy, low libido, always tired, terrible migraines every 2nd day, ridiculously increased appetite and excessive hunger, hair where it shouldn't be, menstrual blood clots, excessive cramping etc
I have all these problems for 3 years now and now that the family doc. put me on YAZ birth control pill I am even more scared - mainly of more weight gain, it would be a tragedy for me, I am fat enough already and what's worse I can't lose the weight, exercise doesn't help, diet doesn't help, NOTHING. Will YAZ birth control pill worsen my already tragic condition? I just don't know what to do and what to believe ... I appreciate any advice or help you can give me ... Thank You to all!

I too have been taking Aciphex for acid reflux for about three weeks and although it seems to have helped with the burning and nausea, I have just recently (four days ago) been experiencing a slew of symptoms. They include headache, blurred vision in my left eye, facial numbness, both forearms numbness, leg (knee down) numbness, and tingling sensation in head. I went to the ER yesterday due to the left arm and left side facial numbness. They ruled out heart attack, blod clot, stroke, bleeding in brain, and brain tumor via a CT scan and a host of other neurological examinations. Doctors have suggested an MRI to rule out something else neurological (MS, neurofibromatosis, etc.) that a CT scan might not pick up. Also, will do a neck MRI to rule out a bulging disc or pinched nerve. I am hoping that it is just the Aciphex.

I am 56 and have taken Fosamax for about 6 years. I have recently felt that I have an 80 year old's health, rather than my own age. I have noticed in the last year that I have had increasing leg weakness. Knees hurt, thighs hurt. I feel at times as if they are giving out and it causes me to stumble and fall, on the merest hint of uneven ground, more and more often. This of course means I have more risk of broken bones. The very thing that Fosamax is supposed to be preventing!!
Since taking Fosamax I have develped neck problems, which caused severe dizzyness problems 2 or 3 years ago and I still get dizzy attacks from time to time and neck pain all the time.
Recently (last 5 months) I have had an extensive rash that took two months to clear, extreme fatigue continuously, attacks of diarreha, inability to shake a urniary infection, flu like symptoms on and off for months, worstening of the leg pains to the point of feeling that at times my legs will give out at any time, and stiffness in walking.
I also had an stomach ulcer last year, that was surgically teated. The Dr wants me to cut back on the anti inflamitory drug I take for arthristis. Howvere I took this drug for 6 years with no problems, before I also started tsking Fosamax!
Fosamax at first helped the BMD level (I had osteoporosis that went down to osteopenie level), but now I am heading back to osteoporosis in my spine, as my reading are now borderline for osteoporosis again.
However I have still had plenty of broken bones since taking Fosamax!! At least one a year. So has it really helped?! or has it given me only extra but more fragile bone mass? I think maybe the latter.
The bad quality of life I am now experiencing has led me to believe that the cure may be much, much worst then the illness (osteopenie or osteoporosis). My mother has had nothing but problems with this sort of drug for osteo also.
I did not link all my symptoms to the Fosamax (despite my mother's experience) until last week, when, in desperation from my strange and inceasingly debilitating symptoms I did some research on the internet and found the hundreds of other reports of the same sort of problems with Fosamax, Particularly the leg and muscle pain and weakness.
Now of course I will see what being off it for a couple of months will do.

I started taking fosamax 3 weeks ago. The evening after I take the pill, I experience severe joint pain in the knees and back. Once it felt like my shoulder blades were lit on fire. These symptoms only happen while I sleep and leave after I am up for 10 minutes or so. I am scared to keep taking it; but, my bone mass has dropped 10%. My doctors cannot tell me if the pain is good (it's working) or bad. I am so confused and worried.

I took Lupron several years ago after having a laparoscopy for endometriosis. I had headaches- night sweats - hot flashes - bone pain - and SEVERE depression. After I had a doctor wanting to test my bone density because they thought I had lost alot with this drug - I started reading up on it and stopped taking it altogether. To think that ME (22 at the time) lost bone mass!!!! I should be worrying about this in my later years--not as a 20 year old! This stupid drug also had a huge hand in my divorce after 3 months on this drug. I was thrown into a depression so severe, I couldn't control it at all. I recently found out through my state's attorney general's office that they won a settlement with Lupron for overpricing the drug - why isn't anything being done on the SAFETY of this drug? I worry that for the time I was on this - I need to be concerned with cancer... it did nothing but cause me pain and misery - and didn't help the problem!

I have been on Advair for about 4-5 years. Shortly after starting it I noticed that the slightest bang to my arm or hands would bruise with large reddish purply spots. I also have what another person spoke about, the stripe down my tongue. I never made the weight connection but have a lot of trouble losing any weight. I would like to find something else to take, it works well to help my breathing but these side effects are starting to feel dangerous. I also had a bone scan and have lost some more bone mass. I posted previously on April 14, 2004. I should have mentioned that I experienced most of the side effects listed in other postings, but only mentioned the side effects I did not see in the forum. Two more I haven't seen mentioned: the Prednisone "hump" at the top of my back...it is a pad of fat that builds up the longer you are on Prednisone. The other side effect did not show up right away: Osteopenia, which is the stage between normal bone mass and Osteoporosis. I am now taking Fosomax to help prevent further bone loss.

I am a 60 year old male. I have a bad heart, type 2 diabetes, damage to my heart from a heart attack in 2006. i have a pacer/defibrillator in me.
-- By jungleface | Reply | (2) replies | Private Message menow after reading all these post i am wondering. i have been taking this medicine since 1996 when then i was told i had my 2nd heart attack and i did not know i even had my first. This medication was given to me for either an alfa or bata blocker, was on 5mg.. now i am on 2 1/2 that i take at night. i take a total of 19 pills a day and 5 shots of insulin, i have bad teeth and now the rest of them have to come out and i have to have bone mass ground down just to get some false teeth. wow i am in great shape huh..lol
well since the little history on me, this is what i am going thru now. i wake up with this deep cough and it gets to a point were i am gagging, after i get the what i call the hair ball out i feel a little better, then i have to keep blowing my nose to get the mucus out of my nasal cavity, I THOUGHT I WAS GONNA DIE THIS MORNING WITH THIS and i did die 4 times in 3 days in 2006 when i had this last heart attack. I see my caro Dr. on the 11th of this month, and i am gonna ask to go off this crap. my bp is normally anywhere from 90/55 to 114/65. and before i was taking this medicine and my attacks in 96, my bp was normally 124 over 70. now i can understand that this medicine is suppose to help protect my kidneys, but the way i am dry heaving and coughing one day they are gonna with everything else in this body cavity come out thru my mouth.
i am horrified off all the ppl and post i have read about this little blue pill i take and it is not for keeping wood either, that floated down the river. THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO HAS MADE A POST ...YOU HAVE MADE ME QUESTION THIS MEDICATION AND I AM GOING TO DO MORE AND MORE RESEARCH ON ITS SIDE EFFECTS.
