I was diagnosed with BOOP (a rare lung disease) and have been on Prednisone for 3 weeks. I started at 60mg per day and after 2 weeks dropped to 40mg. I have not slept more than 3 hours per day, I'm extremely moody and seem to be mad at everyone for no reason. 7 days ago my hands started shaking and all I want to do is pace, sitting still is almost unbearable. My doctor dropped me to 20 mg on Monday and had me stop taking it all together on Tuesday. I was told it would be about 7 days before I start feeling normal again, then I will have to start taking Prednisone again at a 5mg dose and work up to level that will keep the BOOP from coming back. I will have to continue the Prednisone treatment for 6 to 12 months.

I received radiation for breast cancer in 2001 and a month after the radiation treatments I was hospitilized with radiation penumonitis. I was given 120mg prednisone. I had horrible mood swings, kissing ulcers, and lost 15 pounds - the doctor's couldn't belive it. I lost muscle mass in my right leg and had to have physical therapy to be able to walk again. It took 6 months to work my way down to 2.5mg at which time I was hospitalized again with cryptogenic organizing pneumonia aka BOOP in my other lung. I was put back on 60mg prednisone. I have been on various drugs to combat the side effects. I finally got off prednisone in May 2005 but the end of June I got pneumonia and another inflamed lung. I went back on 10mg prednisone which I am trying to get off of now. I have been experiencing depression since going back on my latest dose, but am not currently medicated for it. I have returned to my normal weight and continue to do weight training to combat osteoporosis due to the prednisone as well as strengthen my leg. I worry about the long term effects of long term steroid use.

I am taking prednisone for BOOP, a condition that causes pneumonia. The worst side effect I have had so far is my hands shaking. I am unable to perform many simple tasks requiring fine motor skills. Has anyone else experienced this? I have never seen it listed but I asked my doctor and he said it was a side-effect.

I am 54 and have recently been diagnosed with a lung disorder known as Boop as well as hemolytic anemia both of which require massive doses of steroids. I started out on 100mm for ten days, IV. and went home on 80 two weeks later. I am now onn 50 daily and weaning off 1omm at a time to see how I am doingl. Both illnesses are life threatening if not treated so I really don't have much choice. I may even need chemo for the blood disorder as well.
I have the same miserable side effects you all mentioned. The moon face is like looking in the mirror at a monster I don't recognize. My mood swings are awful, I get so angry at my husband and son as they just don't understand what it feels like. All the aches, the insomnia, the weight, bloat and pains in back and side. I know that I have to be on this for a minimum of 6 months manybe more and I can't stand looking and feeling like this. I already had a weight problem because of meds I am still on from when I had Breast Cancer five years ago and they put weight on as well. (I used to be a size 5 and now I can't even look and see what size I wear. Of course I guess it is better to be alive and fat then dead and thin, but sometimes I don't feel that way. Why can't they find a drug that can work withougt all these other side effects.

I was diagnosed with a lung disease called BOOP. It is relatively rare and is progressive. I started 2 days ago (2/28/04) on 50mg. per day of Prednisone. So far I have some insomnia and a lot of "energy" during the day. Also, a lot of silliness. At what point should I expect the weight gain and moon face etc...? email me with any info you may have especially on this disease in particular. *******

I have been on Predisone for 14 months as I have BOOP (Bronchiolitis Obliterans Organism Pnuemonitis). As of last week I went down to 30 mg daily. I was initially on 60 mg daily. I have gained almost 30 pounds in the last year, bad break outs on my face, facial hair, sleepless nights and bad mood swings. I would really like to get off this drug but unfortunately there is no other drug out there to treat BOOP. I pray for all of us on this drug.
