I was prescribed Lamictal around this time two years ago (July '07) for Borderline Personality Disorder. At first I thought it was great and I felt like it'd been a miracle drug -- the drive back home from the psychiatrist's office that day was such a feeling of relief because I was going to get my miracle drug, finally. Later the next month I moved away from home and began college in the lower half of the state and stopped taking the medication because I noticed that I feeling any difference, or experiencing any change in my moods. Infact, I felt exactly the same as I had before. I looked up the medicine derivative drug and found out that it has a "placebo-like effect with highly addictive qualities".... which made me think that once again, my problem is all in my head. I still feel like I need to be on some kind of medication, but I am not willing to part entirely with my authentic self just to make some other people's lives easier. If they think my mood swings and attempts at self-destruction effect them negatively, just wait until you are the one having them and you can't control them! I don't want to become a zombie, I don't want to lose my hair, and I don't want to gain 30 lbs, but I feel like there's nothing else I can do. But then again, there doesn't seem to be any drug that can help without the drastic side-effects.

Sheesh.

Has anyone experienced Melasma with this drug? I am trying to identify if this is the cause of my melasma, because it worsened when we increased from dose from 150 up to 250mg a day.

I took the medicine chantix to quit smoking before I got married July 2007 so I wouldnt' have to worry about smoking on plane. But it made me mean while taking it and after I quit taking it 2 mos later it caused depression, extreme mood swings usually very vicious swings where I'd lash out at other people including my kids and husband. I'd hear these rants and wonder why I was saying such vicious things. It was like I was possessed. Then it cost me my marriage b/c I had a severe breakdown Dec 2007 and ended up in a mental hospital then diagnosed w/ Borderline Personality Disorder and Bipolar which I never had before. Then while in hospital my employers of 14 yrs discharged me from my job and 7 mos later I still haven't found work, unemployment exhausted and have no income at all now so I'll be losing my house that I worked so hard for, and possibly everything I own. Can't pay my bills, credit cards, electric bill ,etc.. And after I was released from hospital my husband left me b/c there were still mood swings that medicines that the hospital put me on can't cure. So I lost the love of my life and this 'so called' miracle drug destroyed my life and family. If you can quit any other way but taking this medicine do so b/c this medicine will destroy your life.

I honestly do not like taking Geodon. It can have negative effects on your heart. However I have been taking Geodon for at least six months now.

If I miss just one dose I start to feel extreme withdrawal. My withdrawal side effects are blurred vision, nausea, headache, and weakness.

And I've never had withdrawal from a medicine before. But for some reason it's really bad with Geodon.

I'm going to ask me Doctor about this.

What side effects? I have taken Lamictal for 6 weeks. I am on a steady dose of 100mgs. I started out with severe depression (unipolar), and have also been diagnosed as bi-polar and borderline personality disorder. So who knows what I have other than to say that I have felt like a train wreck for 3 yrs. All the other meds I have taken did not help my constant cycles of severe depression. I felt like I was in a fish bowl and the world was going on around me, I could see it but was not a part of it. It was hell on earth. Other meds would help somewhat on certain symptoms, but nothing ever brought my life back to a level where I could say I felt joy and was truly happy until I started Lamictal. 2 weeks into the start of Lamictal (50 mgs), I woke up to a miracle. I realized I felt joy, I was laughing without trying to. I felt refreshed and prepared to go out in the world and face the day with a positive outlook on everything. My side effects so far have been nil. Not one thing...no pain, no headaches, no weight gain, no memory loss, no dizziness, no hairloss. Am I the only one? I know these meds effect people differently but wow, I am in heaven. I hope all of you eventually find something that works for you because I really felt ( before Lamictal) that I would never feel good again! Hallelujah! I do! bless you all!

Oops, I realize that BPD stands for Borderline Personality Disorder. Not the same thing as Bipolar Disorder as all. Sorry if I offended. Wish I could edit my previous posting ...

MHN took away my PTSD diagnosis and told me that I should apply for SSDI with borderline personality disorder. I refused and got a private pay psych eval. Now MHN say's I am refusing to follow there treatment plan because I didn't mess up my application with their bad advice. Now I have been required by Susan Rook-Thomas of MHN to take medication or lose my insurance. Their psychiatrist prescribed Seroquel. I haven't seen anything on it's effectiveness for PTSD. After taking it my ears started ringing and I got sick and dizzy. It may be anxiety from being forced to take meds after bad treatment from MHN.

I was on Geodon for not quite a month, and after the initial sleepy period was over, I felt pretty good but then began having problems swallowing. It was as though my throat had lost the swallow reflex, and I would wake up choking in the middle of the night. My doctor pulled me off of it and it's too bad, b/c I think it had a lot of potential for me (I have borderline personality disorder).
