I am a 50 yr old male described by my doctor as healthy and "well developed". I was prescribed this drug (10 days) for a sore throat and minor respiratory problem after a more conventional antibiotic did not render any improvement.
Within 1 day my tongue and lips felt burned and swollen, I sleep lightly and feel as through every joint and most muscles in my body hurt. I feel as if I've been in a gang fight.
Also I believe it has irritated either the prostate or urinary tract resulting in frequent trips to the men's room. I personally have not experienced bowel problems.
I feel this product is marginal at best and not worth the results.

I am 44 years old and have been taking singulair for about 4 years. 3 months ago I started experiencing crushing chest pain, tingling in my lower limbs, and felt very stressed out. I went to the ER last Thursday and was checked out for angina - the ER doctor told me I was suffering from chronic severe anxiety. I took Ativan for 4 days and felt better, but now the drigs are gone and I again having constant chest pain. In doing some research I found that anxiety can be caused by imbalance in adrenaline, and so started looking online to see if any of the allergy/asthma meds I am taking (adviar, singulair, allegra) can affect adrenaline. That';s when I found this website. Although i find the testimony compelling, I wish more folks would have poted about how their symptoms improved (or didn't) AFTER discontinuing singulair. Also I've noticed many of the stories are about children not adults; many people are taking more than one med for asthma, and most people's symptoms seem to come on right away whereas I have been taking sinulair for years and only recently have anxiety. I will stop singulair tonight and see what happens, but am wondering if anyone has come across further research that correlates singiulair with anxiety? My job life is really peaceful, I am otherwise happy, work can get hectic but that's true of any job, and I am out of ideas as to why suddenly at age 44, when I eat right and exercise - why get anxiety? Thanks for the posts, I'll try to remember to follow up after I am off Singulair for a few weeks.

I started using Yasmin one month ago after using Yaz for a year. I had no problems on Yaz, but have had a multitude of problems that I believe are related to Yasmin. One of the side effects I'm having that I don't see listed by anyone else is insomnia. I am 45 years old and have never had any problems going to sleep initially or when I wake up to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. Before Yasmin, I would get up once in the middle of night to urinate, and now, I'm getting up 4 or 5 times a night and then sometimes, it takes me an hour to go back to sleep. I have also been feeling depressed and more anxious than usual. During the second week of Yasmin, I had gastritis that lasted for about a week. Gastritis is something I typically get 3 or 4 times a year, but I'm thinking it's another side effect caused by Yasmin. I've also had more nausea and bowel problems this month than normal. I have breast tenderness and I had unexplained rib pain for a few days. Finally, my belly seems to be more bloated than normal. I have an appointment with my doctor tomorrow and I WILL be switching to another pill.

I was on Aciphex for 10 days (Samples only) i developed bowel problems but the Dr thought it was side effects fo antibiotics. Was off the med for 1 week and everything went back to normal. I am currently back on this for severe acid problems (Barretts) and the symptoms of yellow mucus and loos bowels are back. Headache, cramps. etc. After reading some of the comments i am not sure that this is right for me either. Only thing is that i am afraid to take any of the medicines and with out it this could become cancer. Any suggestions?

I was so glad to find this website. I was feeling terrible after having the Mirena in for around a year. I started looking online when I woke up several days in a row feeling so bad and nauseous that I was worried I was pregnant!
I was very fatigued, achy, having trouble sleeping, having strange acne breakouts on weird parts of my body, terrible abdominal cramps - yet no period, bowel problems, VERY slow to heal my sports strains/sprains, nauseous, random headaches (and I have NEVER been prone to headaches), odor, crotch drop, hair loss, forgetfulness, BAD mood swings/depression, dehydration. I looked and felt like I had aged 10 years...All this time I was blaming it on having a two kids, getting older, stress, etc.
Well, thanks to this site, I had my Mirena removed last week. I had no ill side effects from the removal and had a normal period for the first time in about 6 months. I felt incredibly better in a few days! I have more energy, I have slept much more soundly - the dark circles around my eyes are diminishing and I look much better. My routine bumps and bruises from soccer and taekwondo are healing at a normal pace and I don't feel achy all the time. Basically I feel great, and I hadn't for a long time. I feel like myself again.
If you have ANY of these symptoms that everyone is talking about...don't write it off to anything else, and don't let your doctor tell you it's due to other things. You know your body and what is normal. If you are wondering at all why you feel bad - get the thing OUT and do it NOW! (My GYN was very understanding and compliant to my request, but still insisted that my symptoms were most likely due to stress than anything else). At least you will have peace-of-mind knowing that you eliminated the IUD as a cause of your symptoms. You can always have a new one put in if you find that not to be the case.
I hope this site is correct regarding the class action lawsuit, because I am seriously considering joining it. Mom's have it hard enough without this IUD complicating their lives further!

I do have bowel problems because of radiation enteritis (had abdominal radiation 17 years ago). On Fosamax I had stomach problems so bad that I had to be put on IV's to rehydrate. My problem now is last summer I had breast cancer, and my doctor is running me through aromatase inhibitors; two of which have already caused the same reaction (pain, vomiting, diarrhea, etc.) Both times ended with me back on IV's. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? I'd love to hear from you.

My now 17 year old daughter was prescribed Yaz back on 7/12/07. Since then she has had an extreme problem with constipation. She has been to the doctors several times, and is now seeing a gastrointestinal specialist because she can only have a bowel movement if she takes a laxative. The pediatric doctor had her on miralax from April to October trying to get this problem under control. It has not worked. We are seeing the specialist and they are running her through a battery of tests, which will now possible include a colonoscopy (at 17 !!!!). She has been extremely moody and aggravated - which I attributed to her age of course. She is no longer extremely athletic, she doesn't really do a lot. She is not the same person, definitely is a homebody now - never going out hardly with friends, etc. She has also had a 20 pound weight gain and for a tiny girl, this has had a huge effect on her. I have watched all of this, and never really thought about the yaz connection until today when a friend sent me this email with a link to this site:
******
that is when I got scared thinking maybe her problems were all caused by yaz. of course her acne cleared up, but her periods are still irregular and spotty. has anyone else experienced the bowel problems???

I have felt poorly since October 2006. Sugar levels ranging from the 450-550 range. My G.P. who is a fantastic dr. put me on Januvia in January of 2007. Range of sugar levels did not change much Sent me for blood work found many abnormalities and in March 2007 I was diagnosed with a bone marrow plasma cell cancer call multiple myeloma (not a side effect of Januvia I'm sure). I am I'm the hospital now for a second time because of severe abdominal cramping. Looks like lower bowel problems. Have not been on Januvia for five days now. ***************My right shoulder feels better, I can raise my arm above my head, no night sweats, no bloody nose, my eczema is clearing up, no pain in joints or rest of my body (thought pain was associated with cancer which is considered inactive since April 2008, I have slept through the night, no pain meds for the last three days, no nightmares, no stomach pain, no coughing, chest not feeling congested, I can get out of bed w/out having to stand for a few minutes by the bed-side because of dizziness, not feeling like a truck ran over me in the middle of the night in the last three days, and most of all I have more energy. To many side effects !!! All of these side effects I thought were a possible result of my cancer although my oncologist did not think so and we still believed that there was some other underlying problem(s). THE UNDERLYING PROBLEM(S) IS JANUVIA !!! Thanks for reading. God Bless You All. Great Health to All.

Despite having a brush with the big C last year (I finished chemotherapy in January) I have been very fit and healthy during my 61 years! A few weeks ago I started having palpitations, hence a visit to the doctor revealed high blood pressure and cholesterol reading of 9.9!!! Shock, horror. He informed me that it was genetic and prescribed Simvastatin 400mg and Bendroflumethiazide 2.5 mg daily.
Not being satisfied with the enclosed leaflets I have looked up more info. on the net. Should I have done this!!! After reading some of the posting on the site I am feeling a bit apprehensive. Last night I had a terrible night couldn't sleep for the pains in my legs and a bit nausea this morning.
But I need to be sensible, I really don't have any choice but to take these drugs just hoping that I won't have to stay on them for the rest of my life and I don't get any of the side effects that some of you have suffered. I also wonder if the chemotherapy could have caused by raised cholesterol?
Hope to keep you posted and would welcome any comments!

I started Yaz about 3 weeks ago and stopped it after only a week. Two days into taking the pill I experienced flu like symptoms which for me typically includes shaky, vomiting, hot/cold flashes, & weakness and lasted for a day. At the time I thought it was the flu until I began experiencing similar feelings after another 4 days and the following day I had a sore stomach, similar to a stomach ache but it wasn't my typical stomach ache (I have irritable bowel problems and have to carefully watch my diet so I know a stomach ache when I get one!). Needless to say I stopped taking it after it was ruining my family reunion and everyone told me to stop. Only two days after stopping it and after only being on it for a week, I got my full blown period again only it was much darker and much heavier than normal, and lasted just as long as my normal period. It threw me all out of wack as I had JUST ended my period when I began taking it only the week before. Now that I have been off of it for a few weeks I have noticed my nipples are extremely sensitive--which they never have been like this before..I am blaming it on the Yaz. Will start new BC pill shortly...Hopefully you all have better luck than I did, I was excited until I got pretty much all the side effects! Haha!

I was switched from Alesse to Aviane in February due to my drug plan's preference for generic drugs. I have experienced serious bowel problems specifically inflammation and extreme pain. It is interesting to note the issues that others have had with sex drive as I have suspected for some time that Alesse (and I continue with Aviane) that it was affecting mine. I have also noticed a that I am much quicker to irritation and anger in recent months.

I just got done reading a lot of this page, I was in tears. I'm a 23 year old female; I started taking Advair 250/50 (two times a day) about 3 1/2 years ago for COPD. Before my problems started I was working overtime every week, just financed a car a year previous, moved out of my parents and felt like I was on top of the world. Minus my general anxiety and clinical depression, I was only on 2 medications plus an albuterol inhahler.
I kept getting sick, was having trouble breathing, so I was put on Advair; at first It's like I read in almost all these forums...It's a miracle drug! I was able to breathe, but I noticed I was starting to feel pretty lazy, in 2 months I gained 30lbs. I kept taking it along with a lot of other medications for more problems that seemed to keep coming along. In late summer of 2005 I had a seizure while I was at work in a restaurant kitchen. I was opening and had passed out between 4 fryers and a flat-top grill; an ambulance picked me up. I kept getting dizzy spells and vertigo, I started having seizures a few times a week; I was released from my job on a long-term medical leave because of the hazard it was for me to work there. Things kept getting worse, It got to the point of averaging 17 pills a day because of medical problems. Before I got sick I weighed 131lbs, I currently weigh 170lbs. I was having seizures everyday, then every other day, and it slowly decreased over time. I went through so many tests, I'm still going through them. I started having really bad bowel problems which I'm still dealing with; It's sort of like IBS. I also deal with chronic daily stomach/abdominal pain; in a laproscopy, the doctor said that my small intestine looked like "a bag of snakes". Another daily pain that I'm still dealing with mouth/teeth/jaw pain. Although I rinsed my mouth out after each use, I believe Advair royally screwed my mouth up for life. My gums bled everyday, I had to use a kids toothbrush, my gums were peeling off; It was told to me that It's like a mouth yeast infection. The gums over my canines started receding and didn't stop until I quit taking advair. The nerves on my canines are exposed and partially rotted, other teeth have chips and are rotten around them. The gums above my canines are still raised and will still flare up from time to time. I haven't been able to work since August 2005. I've been denied disability twice. I have panic attacks when I'm around people. I'm scared to drive because I've had a seizure behind the wheel. I'm in so much pain everyday that I normally don't move unless It's to use the bathroom. I used to cook 80 hours a week, hang out with friends, and work out. Now, I can't work, can't be around people, and take enough medications to start a pharmacy. It's odd how it all seemed to start when I began Advair. One other thing, I'm constantly coughing up these weird mucas spheres. My advice if you're thinking about taking advair...well, I'll just say if I would have known that this is what it'd do to me, I would have chose bronchitis 4 times a year.

I suffered a Pulmonary Embolism December of 2005. Following, I found out that I have Factor 5 (later we found out that all my siblings have it as well as my father). I have been on Warfarin since. I have been told by a few doctors that I will be on it for life. I have also been told by other doctors that I should have had filters put in my lungs so that I don't need the Warfarin anymore. Prolonged use of Warfarin is terrible for you, they say. At the time I started taking Warfarin, I was 39 years old. After 6 months of use I began to loose my hair as well as the curls diminished. I also developed discoloration on my upper lip, face and forehead. 8 months later I was told that I was pre-menopausal...my hormones were changing....night sweats, dizziness, nausea, severe abdominal pain, digestive problems, bowel problems, severe weight gain. They then told me that I had Vertigo and that they were not sure why it began. I am now suffering severe memory problems. When watching a movie, if a commercial comes on I forget what I am watching. I can't read without nausea and dizziness. I get headaches, terrible leg and arm pain. My concentration is very poor. I can't remember what happened the previous day or who my customers are. I don't know what to do. If I stop taking it I will run the risk of another horrible embolism (20% survival rate). My children, 12 and 15, have already lost their father to cancer. They are very concerned of loosing their mother.

I was on NUVARING for 4 months after being on Yasmin for almost 2 years. It was the worst mistake my doctor ever made. I had SEVERE bowel problems, to the point where i had to have a Colonoscopy and other various invasive tests. My cramps were horrible, and non-stop throughout my cycle. I was ALWAYS tired and never wanted to do anything. I gained 5 pounds in 3 months, after trying to conquer anorexia/bulimia (I was a normal weight at that point). Because of the NUVARING, I relapsed. I went back on Yasmin, and within one cycle, I was back to my normal, healthy weight I was after beating anorexia/bulimia and before using the NUVARING. I would not recommend this to ANYONE

I have had the worst case of severe tension headaches, I would classify them as migraines due to the sensitivity to light and feeling of such disorientation and nausea, followed by loss of appetite. So when I finally eat my stomach goes into shock and I have severe "stomach issues" to put it lightly. No matter what I do I cant shake this feeling of fatigued headaches and Nausea. I am tired of feeling like I am on this emotional rollercoaster. I always feel like I am drugged up and its an awful feeling. The ring is out and I will never go back to using it! I realize each person reacts differently to certain birth controls but I did my research prior to starting the NuvaRing and 8 out of 10 testimonials that I read said Severe headaches, nausea, stomach and bowel problems followed by depression. I would not recommend this to any of my girlfriends. Good luck I hope I can help some woman out there from my experience.

I had my Mirena inserted in July 2007, exactly 1 month after my second child was born. I had it removed today, thank god! I had discomfort putting it in and horrible cramps. I bled heavily for a month straight afterward and haven't had a day in 7 months without some blood or thick discharge leaving my body. And I am talking THICK disgusting discharge. I have had severe acne flare ups, hair loss (falling out in clumps), severe headaches just about on a daily basis. I have suffered from anxiety and depression before but now it is 5 times as bad. Put back on Xanax which I used to take as needed which would be about 1 or twice a month to reaching for it 1 to 2 times a day! Most recently I have had leg, arm and back pain. Irregular heartbeat, very dehydrated. Absolutely unbearable mood swings from anger to sadness on a drop of a dime. I have never had suicidal thoughts or though about death but find myself in panic everyday thinking I am dying and I'm only 28! I could barely walk up the stairs without being utterly and completely out of breath. I did not do any research on this before I got it and I really wish I did. Thank god for all of you writing your experiences so I don't feel like a nut. My doctor said today oh I rarely ever have anyone with a problem. You should really get an EKG to make sure you don't have a heart problem...WHAT? Since I had it removed this morning I literally have more energy. It may sound crazy and it may be in my head but I feel better already. I couldn't even function before I was so tired. PLEASE LADIES DO NOT GET THIS....IT'S HORRIBLE!

My daughter was diagnosed with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) as she wasn't getting her periods, and her testosterone was high (she is only 15). She is also developing dark facial and body hair. The endocrinologist put her on Yasmin because it has the least male androgens and should stop the hair growth and felt it was the best choice for her. He said that our goal is to preserve her fertility and stop the hair growth.
We started her on a quarter of a pill and will increase it over the next couple of weeks, due to the fact that a year ago she had to take bc pills for a couple of months to stop her flow (it went on for 8 weeks and was very heavy)... Everything she tried then made her sick. So we were concerned about that again. Unfortunately, she is having a terrible time with Yasmin, even at a quarter of a pill. She is taking it with her dinner, and still, it is making her sick to her stomach. She is lethargic, extremely emotional, nauseous (she even vomited at 4:00 this morning), bowel problems, very anxious, no appetite... and this is after a week of being on it. She is also having heart palps at night when she is in bed. I spoke with her doctor and he suggested we stick with it and her body should adjust with time. He feels that we don't have a lot of options with different pills because of the male androgens and the hair growth... Anyone have any suggestions?? I don't know how much longer we should stay with this... she has missed so much school because of this already and she looks awful. Thanks....

Hi, I've posted before, but I'm back with a few new symptoms....
I have been taking Yasmin since I don't know when. I was one of the first at my OB/GYN office to get on it when it first came out. Egad, what a crappy, painful life Yasmin produces.
I seriously do not think that I have felt "well" since I have been on it. I have constant body aches, nausea, bowel problems, abdominal pain, tremendous pain in the gall bladder area which resulted in surgery that probably wasn't totally needed, leg pain and cramping (feels like a shin-splint...without having worked out), constant emotional outbursts, facial hair growth, absolutely NO sex drive, and migraines that I had never, ever had before...basically I feel like an ogre with a really bad case of the flu.
My newest "problem" is that my periods all of the sudden only last two days and are very light. I know that some people would be happy with that symptom, but this is NOT normal. One box of "Lite" tampons will last me 3 months. I think that this is the LAST STRAW with me and Yasmin. I just started a new pack, but I took the last one I will ever take this morning. I would rather enjoy having sex with my finance(I'm sure he would like that too because I just don't want to do it EVER right now), not bark at people or cry for no reason, have less body pain, and maybe...for once in many years...FEEL GOOD.
I really feel that if I continue on this crap...I'll either never be able to have children (which I do want), or I will end up killing myself or possibly my finance because I cannot control my emotions. For those of you who tout the wonders of Yasmin...I used to think it was great too before I figured out that I didn't feel this way before taking it. Feeling like shit every day of your life changes your outlook. I'll take menstrual cramps and ovarian cysts over all of this any day.

Hi all,
I have just come across this web site as I have just been diagnosed with Crohn's Deisease so I was checking out a medication called ''Prednisone'' apparently a terrible drug. I am amazed to find that so many people find Yasmin Contraceptive so horrific. I have been taking Yasmin for the past six years it was my own little Miracle. I have no side affects, I would even go as far to say that I'm a better person on than off it. All other Pills did not agree with me in any way, mood swings, no sex drive, white vagina lumps on my back, migraine but since taking Yasmin I have nothing.
If all other Pill fails don't give it a try cause for me it was the only thing that worked, I hope the Prednisone works as well for my Crohn's which I am sure it wont.

My thyroid was destroyed in Sept. 1987 by radioactive iodine. What I know now, I wish that I knew back then. I have been hyper most of my life up until this date. Was always able to go into any store buy clothes without trying them own, knowing that they would fit perfectly; lots of energy, raised two boys by myself and even worked on a college degree. Was very active. Had to go in for surgery for my gallbladder; 24 hours later, they didn't know if I was going to live. Put me on the gieger counters to test my thyroid, was so hyper that I broke every piece of equipment in the hospital. After my thyroid was destroyed, I packed on 60 pounds and have not been able to lose it to this day. Am extrememly tired. My whole system is so messed up that I am looking to alternative methods to see if I might get some help there. Told my doctor about my problems with weight, tireness, and bowel problems (which the medication has effected), he looks at me as if I am nuts and don't know what I am talking about.
Now that I am menopausal, the sympthoms have been amplified. I know of several people that have had problems with gaining weight and others that never had any problems with the medication. GO FIG!!!!

i too was surprised at the "2 weeks and great "post! i thought yasmin was a wonder pill for the 1st 6 months i was on it,my skin cleared up,my periods were a doddle,no water retention,no cramping.i went on holiday and took 2 packs back to back and bang........ my life turned upside down! i was sooo anxious i was scared to go out,i was scared to stay in ,i cried,i had nighmares, terrifying thoughts,i couldn't eat,i couldn't sleep,i just cried all the time,i couldn't deal with my kids,i was scared to be around them because i thought i had gone crazy,i lost 35lbs because i physically could not eat or if i did i was sick,i felt dizzy,my ears felt muffled,my vision was blurred and i just felt like i was going to die. i had constant panic attacks, palpitations, racing heart,shaking...the list goes on and on,i was put on diazepam but that made me worse.i struggled on until i found this site by accident,i stopped taking yasmin 5 weeks ago and am already feeling much better,my anxiety levels have dropped massively and the panic attacks are getting easier to deal with. if yasmin works for you then that's great, were all different but please remember that we are not all so lucky! we are all here to share our experiences of yasmin and to give each other help and advice if we can, femalepara...i am glad that yasmin is relieving some of your ailments and i sincerely hope that it carries on working for you as it does for some women but please please bare in mind that if you get ANYTHING unusal, like nausea, bowel problems, depression or any of the symptoms discussed on here,it could be that yasmin has struck again.

ive been on mirena since march 2008. at first i thought this was the best birth control product out there. however for over two years i have been riddled with allergies, sinus infections, upper respiratory tract infections, tiredness, headaches, joint pains, muscle aches, gastric and bowel problems, cyst like acne, mood swings tachycardia (rapid heart rate), anxiety. at first i thought all these were related to getting older (im 29) and work related stress so i wrote it off. but being a person who has never been sick in my life to all of a sudden being sick once a month is crazy. this has been the only thing i could think of that i could think the problem is. i hate to remove the iud because it is so convenient but i am sick of being sick. the doctors dont tell you of the not so obvious side effects like these. i just hope that no permanent damage has occurred.
