My experience with Lisinopril is similar to many others here. Mine is further complicated by the combination of drugs I am taking.
Due to my BPH I was taking Proscar and Doxazosin (4mg), the Doxazosin helping with hypertension as well (140/90). My doctor decided to add 5mg of Lisinopril to augment and help lower the blood pressure some more. He also liked the overall helpful aspects of the Lisinopril on the cardiological system. After about a week and a half on this regimine I was having dizzy spells and light headedness.....disconcerting when driving. I also had the infamous dry hacking cough noted my almost everyone. I stopped taking the Lisinopril and things went back to normal.
On my next visit to the doctor, he wanted me back on the Lisinopril but trying 2.5mg doses. That seemed to be OK for awhile. I have now added Flomax to my regimine and noticed the same dizziness problem. So I am staggering my pill taking which seems to be helping somewhat.
However, after three weeks on this program, I am having severe dry hacking cough episodes, 5-10 times per day. Also have to be careful when I stand up due to dizziness. Additionally, I am having sporadic insomnia problems that are out of the ordinary for me. Also, runny nose, sneezing and a tightening feeling in the chest and abdomen.....Almost like a mild flu. The tightening feeling is more like a caffeine overdose high...ergo the insomnia.
I attribute the hacking cough to the Lisinopril. The insomnia could be the same or possibly the Flomax. I'm not sure about the tightness. I plan to stop the Flomax next week when I go back to the Urologist and will stop the Lisopril at the same time and see what happens.
I would be interested in any input readers may have on my dilemma.

I have been taking Lisinopril now for only six weeks .I am a 52 year old male with high blood pressure and like most Americans my body mass is slightly high by 25 pounds or so. First I was on 10 mg and then moved up to 20 mg and it has helped my blood pressure a lot from 188/104 to 124/78. I wasn't sure until I read this site that I might have been having any adverse side effects . Like all others I developed the cough right away though not too bad, but I am having a lot of confusion and an extremely short fuse with anxiety. If I get excited my bph will spike right back up to 188/104, is this normal and will it get better ? Other than what I have described I have felt like I have been making progress. I now have lower bph and I have shed some extra weight, that could also be the changes in my diet ie: reduced salt , sugar, portion size. The big thing for me is the short fuse which is very unusual for me, anyone else?

I must be one of the "unusual" cases. I have been taking Flomax for about 4 years with no significant side effects. It took about 7 days for my system to adjust but after that I have had very few problems. I do have an occasional sinus problem but none of the other symptoms described in these posts. Flomax was prescribed because of BPH and urinary difficulty. It has worked very well for me.

Been on Flomax for 6 weeks. Seems to be of no value as far as frequent night time urination. Still get up multiple times. I have a feeling of malaise and zero libido and zero ejaculate. Also on Avodart for BPH and see no improvement. I think I will opt for either a laser or microwave treatment to reduce the prostate size at the bladder and get off these useless drugs.

My MD gave me a free sample when I complained that my BPH caused me to get up too frequently ( 4-5 times an evening) to get a good nights sleep. I took Flomax .4mg for three nights and got great results the third evening with only one trip to the bathroom. However, the day after I fainted and for the last four days I have been dizzy despite not taking anymore Flomax. I was admitted to the hospital for tests. They were all negative but documented my Flomax induced orthostatic hypotension with repeated measurments of lying, sitting and then standing BP measurments.
I am 64 and never had this problem prior to taking those three Flomasx pills. RLR
fainting, dizziness

I was prescribed levaquin for BPH disease. After ten days I quit taking this presciption because of severe pain in my ankles and legs. This pain has not gone away even after two months. I would not reccomend taking this drug. It has made my life miserable.

Unable to urinate. Claritin increase enlarged prostate (bph) resulting in urine retention and emergency room visit.

I took Levaquin for precautionary measure after cystoscopy and flowmeter tests for BPH, felt ok until I took the third one, then all "PAIN" has broke loose, I have flu like symptoms, every joint and muscle in my body hurts can't hardly walk a straight line, ringing in ears, the whole nine yards,I am not allergic to any medications at all but this will be the last time I take this medication.

Ah Flomax. I love it and hate it. If I get desperate - flow to a trickle I take it and I suffer the gastly side effects. If the pee is at all better, I stop it. I use it only for acute symptoms. The only cure for BPH is making it into old age and then taking Flomax becomes the least of your problems. Until then, only use if desperate.
