I've taken many different brands of birth control pills on and off throughout the years and never really experienced any kind of side effects except for maybe upset stomach or food cravings. From the very first day of taking Necon I felt tightness in my chest, dizziness, lightheaded, lose of appetite, and extreme fatigue. I've also had spotting all throughout the month and have started my period a week early. I'm not even done with my first pack, but I am going to see my doctor today to switch to another pill.

hi guest 31990,
i'm glad that you have found a pill that works for you, what's not right for some is right for others,i know some people do really well on yasmin and other brands of birth control pills,if you feel great on it then that is good but just please please listen to your body,if you get any strange symptoms or start having any kind of emotional problems at least be aware of the fact that it might be the pill,i did really well on it for 6 months, had clear skin, lost a bit of weight,no pms, light periods and bigger breast but then i started to get ill and have panic attacks and severe anxiety. I am not saying any of this to put you off or to scare you i just cannot bare the thought of not warning women of the possible future side effects, hopefully you will continue to do really well on yasmin and i sincerely hope you do. we need both sides of the story on this site so that other women can make informed decisions (unlike many of us that took yasmin blindly!).
best wishes to you.

hi maggie,
yasmin and many other brands of birth control pills can have a negative effect on serotonin levels in the brain,if you have a problem with depression already then birth control pills will probably make it worse. if you just stop taking the pill then you will probably have a "withdrawl bleed" after about 4 days but that is probably the lesser of the 2 evils. your depression could well get worse if you stay on yasmin for the rest of the pack. get yourself a good vitamin b complex with some additional B6 and magnesium and drink loads of water, yasmin has quite a strong diuretic in it which is great if you suffer from water retention but can cause havoc with your psychological state if you do not drink enough water, again depleting your serotonin levels by becoming dehydrated. i drink about 2 - 2.5 litres of water a day. i am sure that once you stop taking the yasmin your moods will lift up again.

I had a horrible experience with this one. I was switched to ovcon from ortho-novum to help with breakthrough bleeding. Over the years, I taken probably about 5 different brands of birth control pills and I NEVER had such a bad experience as this. I didn't connect it with ovcon at first because when I started ovcon, I was also stopping a series of antidepressant medications that I'd been taking for years but finally felt stable enough to do without. Everything that happened as a result I thought was due to stopping the antidepressants but I'm suspecting it was all due to ovcon.
I took ovcon for 5 months. Besides nausea, I had MAJOR bloating and water retention and HUGE weight gain. I felt like I wasn't even in my own body but a strangers. Appetite shot way up. I was never full, no matter how much I ate. I got terrible swelling in my ankles and fingers and feet. Breasts felt huge. All I wanted to do was eat. Depression and ennui set in. I had mood swings like you wouldn't believe. I assumed this was due to stopping treatment with antidepressants, but I'd never had such mood swings even before seeking treatment for my depression. Libido nonexistent.
It worked for helping control the breakthrough bleeding but hardly was it worth it with all these side effects. The swelling finally sent me to the doctor, it was so uncomfortable. Dr. could find nothing wrong--blood pressure, blood tests, urine sample all normal. She decided to try switching birth control.
I'm my third day on LoEstrin now, and I feel tons better. Having major peeing now it seems my body is ridding itself of excess water. Body beginning to feel like my own again. Appetite back to normal--I get full again like I should! Mood much improved and libido hasn't been this strong in ages.
Ovcon was definitely not for me.

This is a really interesting site because all the symptoms that are being discussed were things I had problems with using other brands of birth control pills. Over a period of fifteen years my Gyn had me try everything out there until, absolutely disgusted, I just quit taking anything at all for several months, hoping to get my body back to "normal". Since I'm not looking to be a parent right now and none of the other methods I was using during that time were as effective I very reluctantly agreed to give Yasmin a try. Periods are mercifully light and with less cramping than ever before. Nothing else is really any different so it's astonishing to see how many women state they have problems with a pill that, according to my friends who use it and my own body, produces much fewer problems with side effects than other brands we've tried. Wow, based on my own experience I would never have imagined it. Obviously there is no one pill that works perfectly with every body. Ladies, I hope you find the solution that is right for you.

i have been on aviane/alesse for about a year. i have noticed any side effects really. i took it because i have endometriosis which is heavy irregular, painful and emotional periods. the pharmacy keeps switching me back and forth from aviane to alesse which is suppose to be the generic brand. but lately i have noticed that alesse makes my cramps come back and i lose weight, while aviane makes me gain weight but feel better. i have noticed with both i get angry, but briefly, and its a million times better than when i would faint cuz of the pain, and take so much Tylenol that i wud hallucinate. i recommend anyone sick of trying so many brands of birth control pills, and sick of finding different side effects with each try Chaste- Berry (tree). its natural and amazing, but WARNING..it does increase fertility. but it has really helped. the brand i use is VITEX by lorna handerhaeghe. but if you really want to keep with birth control stay with the same one for least six months if your side effects are not bad. they do go away once your body adjusts. also some side effects may be because you are missing some vitamins that you need. ask to get tested at your doctor or naturalist. you would be surprised. for those that live in dark and dreary winter climates, most of us miss some vitamin D. a lot of us miss calcium which makes it possible to absorb vitamins. you can get your medical insurance to pay for chaste berry if you get a letter from your doctor.i wish you all luck!
