I had a lung infection for 7 months when I was living in Australia. It was hurting my lungs significantly. I tried a number of antibiotics in Australia but they didn't seem to help. I came back to the U.S. and my doctor prescribed 750mg of Levaquin for two days followed by 10 days of Levaquin 500mg. At the end of the 12th day my lungs were clear as a bell and I could take full breaths without feeling pressure or pain. It was amazing. I did notice that my heels were hurting while I was taking Levaquin and then for about 8-9 days subsequent. I had trouble walking down steep stairs without going sideways. However now I am fine. On balance, I would say that it was more than worth the ankle problem.

I have been taking Yasmin for 1 week. Before taking Yasmin, my stress levels were normal, no anxiety, energy was normal, etc. Within days I began noticing a change in my breathing patterns. I felt as if I could not get enough air. I would continue to yawn in order to get a 'good breath'. I felt like I was taking more short breaths. There seemed to be a constant pressure on my chest. Let me stress, A PRESSURE, not pain. This seemed to occur at all times of the day regardless of whether I was moving, resting, etc. I went back to my OB/GYN only to be told that 'It was anxiety, and I worked myself up. It must be my school, etc." This was so frustrating. I was a little apprehensive about the pill but I know I did not create such extreme anxiety symptoms overnight. In my experience hyperventilation from anxiety builds over time. That is not the cause for me. Please remember your doctor doesn't know your body like you do. Most often they dismiss 'side effects' and say 'It couldn't possibly be the medicine'. I've read more stories of girls complaining of a similar symptom and the doctor telling them... you're having anxiety and they end up on more medication. That's awful. I have found numerous articles on SYNTHETIC PROGESTINS which is what is in Yasmin causing increased breathing of Hyperventilation. I know Yasmin is the cause of this. My doctor was wrong. Now the question is, continue it... or not? It's extremely uncomfortable..so I'm unsure. I wanted to post this so other girls experiencing this side effect would know that it IS the YASMIN!!

Hello All. Please see my posts on Dec. 13 & 18. I had my it removed on Dec. 18th and have never felt better!
I have a regular cycle, no more spotting or terrible, TERRIBLE cramping. The only mood swings I have are when I am PMSing and only for one day (right before I have my period) and this is supposed to happen. Very normal for us women. It is not normal to be moody all of the time, 24-7 (at least for me). My anxiety is fading away, slowly but surely. It had gotten really bad. Heart palpitations, short breaths, cold sweats... and out of nowhere. Since the removal, it may have happened one or two times but its been a while since my last episode and I am so happy for that. This was happening to me almost on a daily basis at one point. No more dizziness (which I went to the dr for), hot flashes or cold flashes. My husband has noticed a significant difference in my attitude. He notices that I am not down his throat the way I used to be when I was upset with him.
No more spotting, no more pain in lower abdomen, which was almost unbearable. No infections. My skin is glowing, though its still a little dry. No change in my low libido, but I have some other personal things going on right now, so... pray for a sistah. here is one of best parts about having this thing removed: no more of that hormonal smell! I won't attract bears or any other wildlife when I go camping. Won't attract sharks at the beach. lol. Traditional deodorant works again, however I just very recently changed to using a natural (potassium alum) deoderant stick and it works better than traditional deorderant without the possible breast cancer (please ladies, look into this). And, I just read another post where someone was having joint pains. It never even occurred to me that this was the reason for my joint pains. HAVE NOT HAD THEM SINCE THE REMOVAL! And I'm telling you guys, my hands would hurt so bad, I would be near tears. I thought it was from doing to much (your know us women do everything... clean house, children, work, cook, etc.), but now I realize it was the IUD! And I am now pissed about that. I've gotten over everything else, but this is a new revelation that is going to take a bit of time for me to forgive!
For alternatives to hormonal BC, check out the Billings Ovulation Method. If done right, it is more reliable than hormonal birth control. Get on amazon.com and get an old used copy for a few bucks and check it out.

Chest Pain (external), shallow breath, shortness of breath, anxiety, mild depression, lethargy.
I have just started taking Toprol XL 50 MG because of a scary Atrial Fibrillation episode last week.
When I was 30 my Doctor opter to put me on Norvasc to "control" my BP. My BP was 130/73. A couple of years later my new doctor changed me to Lotrel 5/10. My BP stayed in the same range despite me exercising less and gaining weight, and drinking more. Basically, I did all the wrong things. Despite that I never had any side effects from either Norvasc or Lotrel. Only other thing to note is I do have sleep apnea, untreated as of yet.
Well, last week as I stated, I had an episode and went to the ER. They pushed Lopressor and eventually Toprol to get my A-Fib back to level. I was completely freaked out of course. I went to my doctor the next day and he prescribed Toprol XL 50 MG at bedtime, and to stop the Lotrel.
I have been taking this drug now for 4 days. Here is my experience...
I take the pill with dinner at around 9 pm. I then go to bed soon after. While I lie in bed, I feel like I need to consciously breath or I will stop breathing. If I get up this feeling goes away. My breaths are very shallow. I have sleep apnea, so I can visualize myself falling asleep and not breathing. I do have some anxiety surrounding this, but I would not say it is out of ordinary. Right now it is 3:33 am and I cannot sleep due to this issue. Every time I start to fall asleep I jolt back awake because I feel like I am not breathing.
In the past three mornings, I wake up and feel anxious and downright depressed. I feel tired and wrung out. This appears to last until approximately 1 pm and then things start looking up. Then at 9 pm the whole cycle starts again.
My mother and father take this medication. My father takes 2 * 100MG and he does not complain of side effects. My mother takes 2 * 50 MG and she has similar side effects as what I have described.

I have been taking Singulair for a year now and although I was prescribed it for seasonal asthma and allergies, I am not really sure I needed the medication. I am 37 and live in an area with a lot of sage brush and was having trouble taking full breaths and/or catching my breath. I have taken this medication faithfully for 12 months and after reading some of the posts on here, I can relate to some of them in a mild fashion. I am wondering though, my lack of ability to catch my breath or take a full breath happens more regularly, is this an actual side effect of the medication? Does anyone else experience this? I am very interested in knowing. Thanks!

Yeah, well I've never been on any birth control pills in my life and I'm 26 years old. I just started my second week of them and it appears that I am having some kind of period now. I'm bleeding as you would on a 3rd or 4th day of a period. In addition, I was working out at the gym a few days ago when I had a sharp pain in my upper chest. It caused shortened breaths for a minute, but I've never experienced this before. I also have out of control hunger usually starting around 4 in the afternoon and lasting until I eat something of a significant portion. I refuse to gain weight, so I am working out regularly but if I see this stuff is putting on a pound...I will be done!!! I am only reading negative about this pill. I will take myself off of it if this persists. Good luck ladies!!!

my Dad took a 750 mg tablet of Levaquin on 2/12/08, went into immediate allergic shock - couldn't breathe, face and mouth swollen. He was gasping in his last breaths to me "the pill, the pill" - I asked him "you are having a reaction to the pill?" and he nodded "yes"
His heart stopped on the way to the hospital and he died.

Started 10 mg Lisinopril, after 4 days I couldn't catch my breath. Had to sit and not even talk, in order to get oxygen in. Couldn't sleep, would wake up gasping for air. Would take 2 breaths and the 3rd would be a yawn to get oxygen in. It's been 5 days since I quit taking Lisinopril, and my breathing finally feels normal. And the doctor said this is not a side effect of the drug, just a coincidence.
In fairness, I have two friends who have been on it 15 and 20 years respectively. Also a 95 year old aunt, and she suffers from shortness of breath but blames it on other things. I wonder.
A doctor at my health club said his patients have had great success with Resperate, a biofeedback machine, for blood pressure. Will give that a try next.

I have always been extremely active. I surfed every day, was swimming, I worked out at the gym several times per week. I am now 34 years old. In my 20’s I used an inhaler maybe one every few months if I got really sick but never ever needed it as a crutch to live. When I was 30 after going into a doctor for bronchitis I asked for an inhaler but they prescribed Advair in addition to an inhaler. They said this would help me to heal faster and stop the symptoms. Well I started taking Advair twice as prescribed. It did relive my shortness of breath but now I felt shaky, couldn’t sleep well and 3 weeks into it I started feeling dizzy all the time. I never had a asthma attack before. If I was sick I might use an inhaler but never did I feel my life threatened until now. After feeling dizzy I stopped the Advair. Well one day later I had such a bad attack I ended up in the hospital. Advair undeniably has made my problem much much worse. I noticed ever since I started Advair if I stop taking it my breathing gets so bad I can barley walk across the room. I never ever had this problem before taking this garbage. Its now 4 years later and I still take it but it took me 4 years to wean off this crap. I only take it when I feel really bad but then discontinue as soon as I can. I should also add I take my inhaler every day now. Never used to take it at all. I feel Advair put my system over the edge where there was a small breathing challenge burst into a full fledge illness after I started on Advair. I must ad in the 4 years I have been eating about 80% raw organic foods, taking lots of vitamins and supplements. I feel this is all I can do to start to live a normal life and hopefully be off Advair all together.

Hey everyone,
I stopped taking the pill now and have been off it for about 2 1/2 weeks (I was on it for about 2 1/2 months). I did try to stick it out like my MD suggested but I couldn't the weight gain was probably the worst. I wasn't even really eating, but gained about 5 pounds (or more) but the worse part was that it was all in my tummy and breasts (the breasts I didn't mind so much). It really looked as if I was pregnant (which luckily I knew I wasn't). Nothing was fitting my tummy. Well, anyway, I already posted about all of that. I am posting now to say that since I have been off the pill, things are getting back to normal. My weight is going back down, although I still have 3lbs or so to loose. But even though I still have some weight, my tummy is shrinking back to normal size. My breakouts have stopped; I am still dealing with what I got from the pill but no new breakouts. And the moodyness/ sadness has seemd to have diminished. I actually have not started any other pill yet. THis is the first time in about 14 years I have not been on any pill! I didn't want to go back to something right away in fear I would have more side effects. So I wanted to let you all know that the symptoms do go away after you stop (at least for me). And since I have not started another pill and have not changed anything except going off the pill, I can pretty certainly say the side effects were from the pill (agian for me at least). Just wanted to make you all aware. I am feeling SOOOO much better since being off the pill. This is the first time I have ever had major issues like this with a pill. I hope people who are trying the BC pill for the first time (any pill that is) and have side effects do not get turned off on the pill in general. I think you just have to find the right one for you. I am glad to see that some people also also writing that they are having good experiences with this pill too, so that people know it really depends on the person. I hope everyone who is having problems get better soon! I am glad this website is here for everyone to share!

I was prescribed Lisinopril for pre-hypertension at 10 mg a day. I've only taken it for 2 days and have felt so sluggish and tired but revved up on the inside at the same time. Had a headache too last night and blurry vision. It does work in lowering the BP though. Last night I felt as if I couldn't take deep breaths to relax myself and then I started having shaking chills and tingling in the hands and feet. Thought I was having a panic attack so I took my clonazepam. Then I felt like I'd have to throw up or go to the bathroom to get relief. The clonazepam kicked in after about an hour and knocked me out, but I still woke up a few hours later still feeling extremely anxious even though the clonazepam was still in my system (I take it twice a day for panic attacks) along with Lexapro for depression/generalized anxiety. I'm refusing to take any more of this drug. I will lose weight and exercise and eat healthy just to avoid this drug.

I've been taking Doxy for a week now (100mg 2x daily) for epididomytis. The second day of taking the med I woke up with terrible heartburn. I thought that the med burned a hole in my lower esophagus from from taking the med late the night before. I have had nausia once for a few hours, though the worst side-effect is the terrible chest pain as I swallow or take deep breaths. It feels like I am swallowing a golf ball and it is stuck about 3/4 of the way down. Occasionally it feels like it is trying to come back up. I too have had some excess gas. I hope this stuff really works without causing long term side effects.

I'm a 36 year old triathlete. I started taking Advair 3-4 years ago. I noticed immedialty that my wheezing stopped. For this reason, I thought the medicane worked well. I also noticed that heavy excersion activities became a little harder. Initially I thought it was allergies. I had less wind. I kept taking Advair because it stolpped the wheezing. 3 months ago I changed my dose from 100 to 250. My lungs started feeling heavier and it was harder for me to breath. I decided to stop taking Advair 3 days ago. I'd have headaches once in a while with Advair but I never noticed any other problems. I've stopped taking Advair for 3 days now. I feel like I can take deep breaths again. I also feel like I'm going through a withdrawal. I've had an intense headache. I'm sure it will go away. The big test will be over the next week. I'll see how I feel when I'm training. I'm not sure if my Asthma is bad enough to take medicane but I'll see. I'll keep Albueteral close by just in case. I'll post again in 1-2 weeks.

I am amazed to read these side effects. I have been on the nuvaring for a little over a year now. The things I was experiencing I never associated with the ring. I have gained weight, feel so overly tired everyday, and have noticed that I get more headaches, and that I get pain in my chest that feels like the muscles are tightening making it hard to take deep breaths sometime. Then to top it all off I have been having pain in my gland in my neck and the gland gets rock hard. My boyfriend also tells me that I seem overly paranoid and stressed which has put a strain on our relationship. He is the one that suggested I look at the side effects people are experiencing.
My only problem is I cannot take the pill, as that made me sooo depressed that I could not stand my self. I need to be on some kind of low dose hormone, and the last time I took myself off the pills I got pregnant and almost died.

I took this medication after outpatient surgery before going to bed and could not get to sleep. By 3:00 A.M. I was dizzy, almost fainted, panting, and had extreme hot feeling under my skin which started in my arms. Thank God I was staying at my daughters and was able to wake her up for help.
She put ice cold tea towel on back of my neck got me to take deep breaths, and put my head between my legs. Within few minutes I began to stablized but was and am still screwed up from it after 6 days.
I also suffered constipation for 4 days after taking it.
I'd be very leary of this drug.
I'm currently on blood pressure and thyroid medication so I don't know if there was some type of interaction with them or what. Very unpleasant. It through me into horrible panic attack.

hiya silke
thankyou for your comforting advice.
i still feel panicky today but not as bad as last night.
my periods have nearly finished so i guess i should be feeling better soon. " i hope so".
i seem to feel more panicky in the evenings and also i have really bad upper back pain which goes towards the back of my neck and head, also shooting pain in my head. i really hate it. it scares me so much which provokes the panicky feeling i have.
right now i am feeling so heavy in the upper part of my body. i just hope i make it through the night without having a panick attack. my ears and nose go all cold and i can feel myself going out of control. sso so horrible.
i wiil try to be strong and take a day as it comes.
i just hope the day comes when i wake up and i feel normal again.
i feel so weak like my body is drained and tired and i just want to sleep. i used to go to the gym but i feel to weak to do that now.
the other day i went shopping and as i got into the shopping centre i was walking towards the shop i needed to go to when i suddenly felt my head feel really funny, i thought to myself should i run back to the car so i could quickly get home or should i or would i be able to make it to the shop without collapsing.
i took deep breaths and eventually made it to the shop and back home. this really scared me though.
i will try not to let what happened above take me over though as i am a very outgoing person but it is really scary especially when your on your own.
thanks again silke and i hope that one day i too will be helping and comforting people on this forum just like you have done so for me.
BIG HUGS BACK TO TOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THANKYOU

Hi Hill,
Sorry that you are not feeling well. The cold will pass.
Fortunately you are no longer on Yasmin and are on your road to getting better.
My experience is that I cannot take Benadryl or any cold medicine without getting a racy heart and/or totally exhausted.
It is hard to say with certainty why you are having these symptoms. Keep an eye on them and see if you can see a direct correlation to the meds and the symptoms. You will know your body's reactions.
I am about one and a half months off of Yasmin. I notice that my anxiety is peaking during ovulation and my period. I started Paxil CR 12.5mg when I stopped the Yasmin. I assume that it is helping keep the anxiety under control.
Do alot of deep cleansing breaths when you feel anxious. Also, I recently purchased a couple of relaxation CD's. I listen to them in the late evening once my kids and husband are asleep. It has helped me fall asleep. Staying asleep has not been easy, but I am working on it.
Also- Have you had your blood pressure checked?

my heart rate was fast and at around 90 to 120 beats per minute for a good 4 months after i got off yasmin.... no jokes it was an absolute nightmare i would be able to feel it pounding in my chest....
twice i went to hospital and both times they said it was nuthing and my job must be stressing me out... thats crap because i can deal with stress very well... actualy i work alot better under pressure...
now is my 5th month off yasmin and my heart rate has dropped to about 80-85 beats which is still kinda high but much better... normal is around 75-79 im told... although it depends on the person and how fit you are...
now i only get bad palpitatins when im ovulating and sometimes during the week leading up to my period....
dont panic i promise you it will get better its just a slow process... i found drinking lots of water helped me alot and taking big deep breaths helped open up my chest and airway....
i hope next month ill be able to say its gotten even better....
just try not to concentrate on ur heart beat all the time and whatever you do dont be like me and take your pulse a hundred times a day....ha ha ha i was bad!!!
you will be ok just hang in there

Oh my God, it's the drug from Hell. I started taking prednisone yesterday for the very firt time to treat severe inflamation of the bronchial airways due to pnemonia. I now now what an asthma attack must feel like. It was like breathing through a cocktail straw; frightening and unpleasant in the extreme. The good news is, within a couple of hours of taking prednisone, I was breathing easily without difficulty and severe wheezing; nice deeep full healthy breaths. The bad news is, I have been experiencing almost intolerable pressure in my skull along with headache, restlessness and insomnia. The worst part is, my heart started beating at an extremely abnormal accelerated rate, as if had injested a large amount of amphetamine such as cocaine or liquid adrenaline. Absolutely horrendous! My heart has been beating so rapidly that I suffered a pretty severe anxiety attack and felt as though my heart might pop right out through my chest cavity. I looked this drug up in the Physicians Desk Reference and the side effects are not ones I care to experience; insomnia, restlessness, anxiety and possible psychotic delusions. Good Lord, this stuff is poison as far as I'm concerned. I'm only supposed to take it for one week, but I'm going to contact my physician and see if its ok to discontinue. My reaction to this drug has been a nightmare. Although I'm breathing easyily and normally, the side effects do not, for me, outweigh the benefits.

Hello All,
I started Yasmin three months ago when my husband and I moved to Italy and boy has it been awful! You don't have to go to a doctor to get a prescription for many drugs, so I went to a pharmacy and asked one of the pharmacists what she would reccommend since a drug comparable to what I have been taking for the last ten years, Ortho Tricyclin, is not available here. She gave me Yasmin.
I have a heart condition and have always had heart palpatations, but never like this. Yesterday I bent over to pick up a book and thought I was having a heart attack. It was awful. About two months into taking the pill, I was doing a pilates video that I have done dozens of times before with no problems and fifteen minutes into it I had to sit down because I could barely breathe and my heart was beating so hard. Most every day I find myself thinking about breathing, having to purposfully take very deep breaths to make sure that I am actually getting oxygen.
Also, I have been experiencing major mood swings, depression and anxiety. I thought that it was due to the new enviroment, but now I am not so sure. This was the first month that I did not have at least one day where I was a total bitch. Anything anyone said pissed me off. I feel sorry for all of the folks that have been around me that past few months! Especially my wonderful husband who is always so supportive.
I can also mention headaches, massive neck and back tension, lower back pain, lethargy and insomnia.
I have four pills left in this pack and I am not so sure that I want to take them. I am glad that I was referred to an English speaking gyno here. I'll be seeing her soon.
I wish you all good health.
Bright Blessings.

I'm on suppressive theraphy w/ Levoxyl -- currently on 250 mcg daily and can't seem to sleep. I've even noticed my breathing pattern changes to rapid short breaths during the day. In addition, my memory was noticeably worsened and I seem slower mentally.
Prior to this dose,. I was on 274 mcg for 3.5 years and I didn't have these all symptoms. My memory wasn't the best but I wasn't complaining.
Isn't it odd to have symptoms of taking to large a dose when in fact my dose is smaller?
After going on the 250 mcg, I notice some rapid heart racing and after this occurred a few times I called my doctor. He said we had just changed my dose and to hang in there to see if things improved.
Now I don't even notice/react when I have rapid heart racing...and my concern to him recently was about the lack of sleep. At best, without Tylenol PM, I am only getting 3-4 hrs a night. There have been some nights I haven't felt like I've slept at all.
My memory is unbelievably poor. I can't remember simple things...and for the first time I'm searching for simple memories (and not just forgotten words) in the mist of conversation.

I have been on the NuvaRing for a year now and this was the first month I skipped by my own fault in forgetfulness. I went on the ring to regulate my hormones and thought it was useful to have a birth control method that overcame my pill-taking forgetfulness. It has worked really well not only in the hormonal department, but with period regulation and cramps. So many have had adverse reactions with their sex drive and emotions, but I was a lucky consumer. BUT THEN I forgot to insert the ring this past month; I was traveling and one day led to the next and you know how it goes. I brushed it off as a "medication free" month and proceeded with making my plans to move from the West Coast to the East Coast.
Last week was the week before my period and I began to experience HEAVY anxiety. Though I was happy and life was great (even with the large change in my life) my body was reacting in distress. At first I dismissed it as anxiety from moving, but then when I got my period it dawned on me. Usually I would experience heavy cramps before my period but the anxiety replaced it. I didn't even know my period was coming. My regular body clues were off base and this anxiety lead to a heavy chest feeling, short breaths, dizziness, headaches, breast soreness and general feelings of depression. As a woman I can be perfectly honest and say this is entirely hormonal because
Today I went online to research and was more than happy to see that I am not alone in the symptoms this birth control has caused me. Oh my goodness, I am almost excited to get back on it after my period to see if it dramatically changes on the flip side. I cannot continue feelings like this.
