I took Lipitor for about 2 years- 5 mg.
Leg cramps-soreness throughout my muscles- very sore buttocks-
my legs are shaky- if I use them too much; (as in walking 3 miles)
I am (was ) an avid body builder that could squat with 100 lbs- and now ( I am a health conscious -non drinking- NO other medication 104 lb slim female) have quivering legs if I stand for too long. I even had a muscle biopsy- and it cam back negative- I have not had a statin for 6 months- but I still have cramps- and abnormal liver values- and I have NO other conditions-I have been scanned from head to toe - open MRI- closed MRI -but the muscle stiffness- soreness- especially legs- continues-
does anyone know how long it lasts? I have also been tested for liver cancer- thank God-negative.
I really feel that Lipitor did this- has anyone else gone from fit as a fiddle to a quivering -achy person- I have gone through 5 doctors- internal - gastrointestinal - neurologist- hematologist and all is negative- just high liver values and muscle pain. Thank you so much.Maxine

Weight gain, sluggishness, memory fogs. I've been on Toprol for nearly 3 years and my 2 biggest areas of concern are my weight and memory. I've gained 25 pounds in 3 years (never had a weight issue before and I'm 40) and CANNOT lose it. I've been on a very restricted diet for the past 4 weeks while also power walking 30 min/5 days a week with NO WEIGHT CHANGE! That is what prompted me to look into possible effects of Toprol. During the past 3 years I've also noticed a problem with my short term memory which I naturally contributed to my depression. Well, the good news is that with my diet and constant exercise, my blood pressure has dropped to 118/78 and I am seeing my doctor and presenting many of the forum entries to her this week. I am going to have her change my meds and hopefully be able to come off completely. I'm currently on Toprol XL 50mg.
I will update on changes!

In July of 2003 I recieved my 2nd round of injections after BEGGING not to have then again. I had them 8 years ago for endometerosis, but after 6 laps, it just grows right back in a matter of weeks. No meds seem to easy my suffering, except when a sympothtic docter gives a script for a pain killer from time to time. The depression hit like a brick wall, i was thrown into the pits of hell emotionaly over night. They started adding more lupron for the increased pain and I lost it. I sat on my kitchen floor with a scaple and made a decision i'm sure I would never had made with out that shot running my life, it was me or the endometreosis that night. So I cut right down into my own belly looking for it. Now, i'm an educated for the most part stable woman, and this shot made me ragging crazy. I thought, women need to know that these hormons are not meant to be taken lightly. Has any one else lost there marbles while on this? I since have had migrains that land me in the ER, and have gotten my scrupples back, but for three months. I was not me. And to tell you the trueth, only the good Lord got me through. I was recentley aproved for a hysterectomy, but was told that the effects of that would equal that of the lupron. Think about it hard befor you bend over and take that shot.............

I thought I researched this product thoroughly, I even worked with a lady who had one inserted and she said she was just fine. My specialist said it was "new improved technology, the best on the market". So I had it inserted which apart from being poked and prodded which is never nice, and him pinching my skin, was reasonably ok.
I was fine for a long time, but after a year or so I found that my quality of life was very low. I am 40 years old so put some of it down to that, I have a one year old so put some of the tiredness down to that, but whatever I did I never felt better. The iron levels in my blood are high and all other checks, i.e. thyroid, are fine so why was I suffering from:
Nausea and Weight Loss (the weight loss is the only good part)
Extreme Tiredness
Thrush
Dry Itchy Skin
Dizziness and Vertigo
Facial and Scalp Breakouts
Greasy Hair
Depression
Anxiety
Headaches and Migraines (I am a migraine sufferer anyway)
Sore Itchy Eyes
Spotting for Two Weeks (6 months of the year!).
I didn't have any problems with my periods before, I had just decided to have the Mirena inserted to avoid further pregnancies.
I hadn't been on any type of contraceptive pill since I was 22 years old and I now remember why I stopped taking the pill in the first place.
Some days I felt great, but would then feel like I'd hit a brick wall about 4pm so would have a very strong coffee to get me through the evening. I'd then sleep like a log and wake up feeling hungover even if I hadn't drank any alcohol the night before (I may as well have and I probably would have felt better).
I then decided to google 'Mirena Side Effects' and found this webpage. I discovered that thousands of women around the world are having the same problem. I got on the phone instantly and made an appointment with my Doctor to have it removed.
I had the Mirena removed last Tuesday, and within a day I wasn't so tired, I didn't need a coffee to get me through the day, or a nap, and my eyes felt better. It's now been five days and I feel much calmer (no anxiety). I'm still tired from running around after my daughter but not like before the removal. I have been having crazy dreams but I assume that is just my body adjusting.
It appears that the Mirena device works for some people, but just not me.
If you feel this way, then have it removed - your quality of life with worth so much more.
Oh, and I can drink wine now and not get migraines - yay!
