I started taking prednisone when I was only 12 years old and I was on it for about a year and a half. At the age of 10, I was diagnosed with glaucoma, uveitis and cataracts and for about 10 years now I have had all these illnesses. My experience with prednisone had been HORRIBLE. Within two months alone, I gained 50 pounds, my skin started to get really really thin, I started to develop stretch marks ALL over my body with the only exception of my face and hands. I started to get the chipmuk cheeks to the point that my family was afraid that I was going to literally explode. My liver was damaged. My kidney was damaged. The vertebrates in my spine where being chipped away. There was a point in that year and a half where the doctors told me that there was a 70% chance of me going blind. The bottom line was that PREDNISONE WAS BRINGING NOTHING FOR ME EXCEPT RUIN. On top of that, I was constantly depressed. Kids at school would point at laugh hysterically at me. And if people weren't laughing, they were struck by fear and were trying to figure out what exactly I was. I remember this one instance in my school cafeteria where one girl stood up on the lunch table, pointed at me and screamed SHE'S AN ALIEN!!

I was and still am scarred physically and emotionally. My arms and stomach are really saggy because the skin is soo thin. As I said my entire body is scarred with stretch marks. I can't show the slightest bit of my body to anyone because I am so ashamed, embarrassed and afraid of peoples judgments. I am afraid that no one will ever want to be in a relationship with me.

All I can tell you is that though I stopped using it about six and a half years ago, this dreaded drug has truly ruined my life from the very start of my childhood.

I started Lisinopril 10mg in mid November 2008. In December I caught a particularly nasty cold, terrible cough, lost my voice for weeks but very little sinus problems. Went to urgent care on New Years Eve because I couldn't deal with the coughing anymore. They gave me a chest x-ray and breathing treatment and sent me home with a z-pack, inhaler and cough syrup. Slowly started feeling better and by mid January I had my voice back, but the cough continued. It was a cough like so many of you describe, the kind where you cough until you puke! No fun. But, I'm a smoker so I kept thinking that was why it was taking so long to get over.

March 1, 2009 I had a coughing attack while shopping. While coughingl I felt a terrible pain in my side, it was so bad I thought I was going to fall over. I knew I had broken a rib! From coughing... imagine that! When I got home I starting googling chronic cough and broken ribs. I came across reference to medications as a cause of chronic cough. The light bulb came on.

I stopped taking the Lisinopril and called the Doc in the morning. Told the nurse that I wanted to change my medication and that I needed a chest x-ray to see if I had broken a rib. Saw the doctor two days later, no hassle about changing meds, but I really had to talk her into the broken rib theory. Had my chest x-ray and sure enough, I have a broken rib.

Well, three weeks later and I feel so much better. Now I only have coughing fits 3-4 times a day instead of the 5-6 times an hour. I think I will get over this!

Too bad though, because the meds actually worked. My blood pressure was lower than it had been in years. But I think this is one cure that has side effects worse than the disease it cures.

since starting topamax in may 08, 50mg twice daily, i have had constant pain under my right rib, feels like something is eating a hole straight through to my back where the pain wraps around. also have some trouble breathing, constipation. have had gallbladder ultrasound, hida-scan of gallbladder, endoscopy, cat scan of chest and abdomen and chest x-ray, along with a zillion blood tests all showing normal. no one can find the source of my pain, the only thing is how the time corresponds with my pain and when i started the topamax. can anyone tell me of any similar side effects they have had, is it the topamax causing this? and should i stop. i'm feeling as if i'm poisoning myself. i need help. thank you for anything you can tell me.

After sitting or lying down getting up have passed out falling like a tree in the forrest. Broken ribs, internal damages, life threatning situation. All three times hospitalized. Every test imaginable was done no blockages in arteries. Conclusion reached was drug conflicts. My doctor believes strongly that Flowmax was the cause. He has received information that many other men have also passed into unconcious state, subsequently falling backwards no ability to stop the fall.

Hi my name is Angie i was 15 at the time and a only child from a single parent when my mom was put on 60mg of prednisone because she was diagnosed with a blood disorder called ITP(idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura) she had been hospitalised for about 2 weeks and then was released but still was on the prednisone as time went by my mom had to stop working, she gained about 100 pounds on a very small framed body, her hair grew very fast, tremendous stretch marks, mood swings, just about everything on the list. She was to have a Splenectomy on Sept 13 2005 she had her surgery and it went perfect and was shortly released. 1 week after surgery she was having very severe hip pains, we took her to the hospital and she had X-rays and all sorts of tests done but nothing was found so she was sent home with pain meds. 2day later she was taken back to the hospital the pain had gotten worse, while at the hospital she had been told she had a fractured pelvis and was put on bed rest and given MORE pain meds. The doctor had mixed the 2 medications given and they counteracted eachother.During the 3 days she was home she had overdosed on pain meds because they counteracted eachother. On Sept 27 she had a meeting with her surgon and was admitted to the hospital for a drug over dose and broken pelvis. She had a bone scan and the doctors found she had also 3 broken ribs a broken tail bone and a bone infection. HOW? you may ask.... because the prednisone made her bones very weak and the weight she gain, her body collapsed on itself. My mom put herself into a coma for 2 weeks and was in the ICU for 3 weeks. She is now awaiting surgery because her hip is collapsing because of Avascular Necrosis she is bed ridden and is very heavily sedated...my mom hasnt been home in over 4 months I just wanted to tell my story in hope that people will listen and that no one will have to go through this just as I am.

This past November I got the flu, as did my husband and daugther. The day after Thanksgiving I started to have some difficulty breathing. I went to the doctor and they prescribed an inhaler for me, which did nothing. I went back to the dr. again and she prescribed an anxiety medication and combivent and told me that it was just anxiety. Why would she prescribed combivent (which is strictly used for COPD) if I supposedly just had anxiety? I went to another doctor and he informed me that I had pneumonia and broken ribs. He prescribed prednisone and Advair. Since taking Advair the quality of my life has gone downhill tremendously. I have gained upwards of 30 pounds, have a swollen (and painful) stomach, have lost my voice (I cannot speak above a whisper), I'm having excruciating pain in my right hip joint, it hurts if I put any weight on the heels of my feel, and my back is killing me. Advair has not helped me in ANY way. It has not helped my breathing, in fact, it's made it worse.

When I informed my doctor of this he acted like I was crazy. He said it was completely safe and that I had nothing to worry about. So, I went to a pulmonologist...and he told me to stay on the Advair also! Even though they're aware of the fact that it hasn't helped me! I found it ironic that someone stated on here that they thought the dr.'s might be getting a kickback for prescribing it, because I thought the exact same thing!

I have been off of Advair for 4 days now and there has been no improvment. I called the company that makes Advair and the woman I spoke with said she was "in shock" that the dr.'s kept me on that medication with the side effects I'm having. According to her, 5% of people using Advair will experience "hoarsness," which is a grand understatement...it's more like loss of voice. She said she was filing a report with the FDA and we would receive a copy of it. When I asked her if this could have caused permanent damage, she was honest with me. According to her there is now a study for people who have been on Advair for 2 years, then off of it for a year, and they still have their symptoms. She also said that the study stated that there was no difference between long-term use and short-term use. Which basically means that it doesn't matter if you've been on it for 2 months or 2 years, if you're going to have a reaction...you'll have it.

I'm praying this isn't permanent. I'm only 37 and this is miserable to have to deal with while running my business and taking care of my family.

I was in a very serious auto accident in 1999 that left me in a coma for 2 months. I lost my spleen, 2/3rds. of my pancrease, broken ribs and sternum, broken pelvis and a severe head injury. I am on many medications due to my accident. by losing 2/3rds of my pancrease, I was left with diabetes, very painful periphral neuropathy that I am on pain meds for for life. I lost 40% of my cognative ability. Doctors tried all sorts of drugs to keep me calm preventing panic attacks (PTSD) and tachacardia episodes. The Pyciatrist that I finally was able to see Prescribed me 2 mg. of xanax 3 per day. I must say that this medication was my savior to having a normal life. Before I took this med I took Valium and that did nothing. BUT, this medication according to my Doctor said that it's not for all people, however he said it was custom made for persons in my condition. Without it I cannot get into a car. Have a civil conversation with others. I just sit and stare
all day. Even though I take celexa everyday, it does nothing for me. With the combination of celexa and xanax I am able to live a near normal life. As I said, I have many other physical problems controled by opiods. My life till date has meaning to it. God bless my Doctor that gave me my life back to me. Granted, I hurt non stop but at least I can function. Xanax is a good medication for the few it was entended for like me. I highly recommend it to those that take their meds responsibly.

I was taking 1mg.of Xanax 3x a day for 3yrs., I quit cold turkey at a Dr. advice (very stupid Dr.). After 2 days of hell I had 2 siezures in a 30 minute time span. The second almost killed me, I had 4 broken ribs and minor kidney damage. For 2 weeks my speech was slured and my mind was somewhere else.
