Wow, what a relief!
I am 24 years old and am almost finished my 4th month with the NUVARING. I WILL NOT be putting another one back in! I have had such horrible depression that I find myself crying ALL of the time. I am a full time mom of two beautiful children (6 and 2) and I find that they are bearing the brunt of my depression. I also have a very LOW sex drive which is making my husband feel slightly inadequate since we usually have a very good sex life.
Also, I used to have a very regular menstrual cycle and having a plastic ring determine my cycle is wreaking havoc on my body. I know one week in advance that my cycle is going to start because I am in such pain for the week before, and the week of that I can barely get out of bed. I am completely exhausted and have also gained 15 lbs in the 4 months alone. Which makes the depression and sex drive worse. It keeps a very vicious cycle going and I can't take it anymore. I would not recommend this to anyone... it is painful during sex, when I can actually force myself to engage in it. It is a little ring of HORROR!

Well, I had Mirena put in in March and the insertion was fine, I had to go back to get the strings cut because my husband was being "poked", but I felt fine UNTIL a month or so ago, I feel dizzy almost to the point of blacking out, nauseous, but not actually throwing up, and very tired, now i do have a 6mo old and a 3 yr old, but they both sleep through the night, and so do I, but i'm just exhausted all the time now. Also, I can't seem to control my emotions, my poor husband gets the brunt of it. I have an appointment with the doc to discuss my options. Hopefully I can get it removed and back on the patch which worked good for me. I wanted Mirena because I like the idea of no periods, which IS really cool. But the exhaustion and nausea just arent worth it if I can't be a good mom and wife.

extreme hair loss, no sex drive, mood swings/ anger outburst, hot flashes, headaches, tired, depression, etc....

I am 39 yrs old, have been married for five years and have two children with my husband and one from a previous marriage. I am finished having children and after my daughter was born, I decided to have the Mirena inserted (being and labor and delivery nurse, I had heard good things about the Mirena....especially the no periods!) I have had my Mirena since 2/08, didn't have a problem getting it put in, actually was fairly easy. Had bleeding on and off for 2 months after and eventually no periods. I was also breastfeeding at the time. Once I quit breastfeeding I had a period almost a month later and have some break through bleeding here and there (never know when so can't say for sure it is a true period).

Since having it inserted I have had NUMEROUS side effects: hair loss more then I would equate to normal post pregnancy loss and still loosing hair, no sex drive (poor husband, can count the number of times in the last two years on one hand), tired all the time, insomnia to the point I have to take benadryl or ambien to get to sleep, anger/ severe mood swings, weight gain and just over the past few months, my sense of smell is abnormal (almost smells like I have a cigarette/ rubber tire smell constantly and is driving me insane) almost to the point I have convinced myself that I have a brain tumor or something. This may not be related to the Mirena, but nonetheless a "weird" symptom.

My mood swings are awful, almost to the point where I feel bi-polar at times. I was never this way before and was pretty much even tempered. I hate the person I have become, my family takes the brunt of my anger, which is totally not fair to them....I feel like a bad wife and mother. Thankfully my husband is a GREAT man and loves me no matter what. I mention all these things to my OB when I went for my yearly exam, she tried to pass it off to me having four children at home and being a working mom, etc... and prescribed me paxil. I debated back and forth about taking the medication, because I just have a thing about taking antidepressants...this is not me. I am a member of another website called ****** and there is a Mirena side effect support group, so many women have similar complaints and I can't think that this is all just inside of my head. I swear I am going to go crazy or have a nervous break down. I think I will just take my chances and have this Mirena removed. I agree with a previous poster, I would take the symptoms from having a monthly period any day over this, cramps are nothing compared to how I have felt the last 6-8 months.

Those of you that may think this is a bunch of crap, I am glad you are not experiencing the side effects, but I didn't at first, it took almost a good year for the major things to start coming to the surface. I would give anything to be my old self again.

i have had my mirena for about 1 1/2 months now, and so far i love it, i have had the spotting for the first month which doesn't bother me and now my period is on and i do have very bad diarrhea which im sure is associated with the period more than the mirena itself. haven't had any lack of sex drive in fact i 've wanted to have more sex, and i haven't' been irritable or anything else, so some of the side effects i believe everyone is having may be made up, think about it if you read over and over and over again how bad the mirena is your going to begin to feel that way i know if i tell myself that my arm hurts all day long then eventually it feels like it hurts..neways all im saying is relax stop reading these scary ass posts and do something to take your mind off of it, i know 3 other people who have the mirena that live down the road from me and NONE of them have had any of these problems...ladies i think you are just trying to find something to blame it on...

I'm 39 yrs old and I had the Mirena inserted in Sept.of 09. Since I've had this put in, I have a period every 2 weeks and it last for 2 weeks if not longer!!!!! Very annoying....... It seems like I'm always bleeding or discharging and I can't stand it anymore. I've also experienced hair loss, I have always had thick hair and now my hair is getting thin and it hasn't been growing. I'm also experiencing insomnia, my sleep has progressively declined since this was inserted. Now I'm on my second medication to try and get some sleep. I'm tired all the time, extremely moody. I get pissed off all the time over nothing. It is affecting my relationship with a man I'm totally in love with and if something doesn't change I'll end up losing him. Before the Mirena things were great and now they're getting worse and worse. I don't do things with my friends anymore cuz I'm tired all the time and moody and my boyfriend gets the grunt of it all. He has a 5 yr old and I have no patience with her and I've always been really good with kids and I never had such a lack of patience before the Mirena was put in. Needless to say I have an appointment on July 7th to get it out. Oh and did I mention the 15lbs I've gained since I've had it put in. I've never been overweight or had weight issues in my life. Since this has been put in, it seems like I keep gaining weight and it doesn't seem to stop. I go to the gym and do weights and I do a lot of cardio and nothing seems to stop the weight gain. I'm praying that after this evil thing is taken out, I can get back to being my happy self and treat the people around me the way they deserve to be treated. I know some people haven't had any problems with the Mirena, but for me its been a living hell!! No birth control is worth all these side effects. I'm thankful I found this site because I didn't know what the hell was wrong with me until I started reading all the things that other women have experienced that are similar to what I've been going through!

Holy Moly...Basically I think all birth control methods suck, especially hormone based ones. Women always bear the brunt of the hideous side effects.
Used rhythm method for years, no problem. Conceived 2 kids when I wanted to. Afterwards, I thought Mirena would be good idea. AWFUL! Stupid thing poked him and me. OUT! Started Nuvaring 2.5 months ago. Sound familiar: Great for first month...I thought. Didn't fall out which was the big thing I had heard about. Now, noticing 1) weight gain despite running, tennis, etc. and following weight watchers. 2) Thin, brittle hair. 3) knee and joint pain which makes exercise hard (thought it was my sneakers) in addition to upper-thigh soreness. 4) IBS symptoms for first time in 38 years! Bloating, diarrhea, gas, etc. 5) trouble staying asleep despite fatigue 6) new level of fatigue 7) vaginal dryness which never had EVER before hormones! 8) increasing disinterest in sex.
So, yup, took it out yesterday after finding this site. NO more hormones for me! Abstinence or condoms, I guess. Geesh.

Hi, I am a mother of two very young children. I am also a stay-at-home mom. Prior to December 2008 I had been feeling possible peri-menopause symptoms such as (night sweats, memory loss, some what crazy period) and decided to go to my obgyn and get a checkup. She decided to put me on Yaz for the hormone replacement thinking that would help me. I have been on Yaz since December and my life has been horrible as well for my family. I have not been myself and have been progressively getting worse. I think this medicine should be taken off the market because it could severely cause someone to harm themselves. Here are my side effects using this drug:
1. severe headaches coming from the spine up the neck
2. severe mood swings (felt as though something terrible/irritating under the skin) - my children have taken the brunt of my terrible moods, so badly so at times they hid from me
3. severe loss of sleep (forget sleeping can't shut the brain down)
4. severe joint pain (stiffness and ache's in the knees, elbows, back and neck)
5. feeling as though I had a cold
6. severe mental cloudiness (i would get to the grocery store and forget half of the things on my list)
7. severe gas
8. blurred vision
9. overall tiredness and loss of enthusiasm for life (no joy or peace)
10. total loss for sex (my poor husband has been such a trooper through all of this)
I am sure of more side effects, but these are what really are coming to me at the moment. Look I have been praying for a sign as to why I was feeling so terrible these last few months. I have quit taking this medicine as of yesterday. I still feel the effects but have the faith that I am going to get better. Please if you are reading this and think maybe you are crazy, you are not. Yaz is the cause of your problems. Think about it, pray about it, consider getting off. It just might save your life.

Wow. I found this site after looking up causes for lack of sex drive. I've been on Yasmin for 6 years, but never thought for a minute it had anything to do with the problems I've been having. Loss of sex drive, vaginal dryness, hair loss, mood swings (partners always gets the brunt of those), repeated bouts of chest pains (diagnosed with pleurisy recently, don't know if there is a link).

I had got to the point that I thought this is just the way I am, it never occurred to me that something else could be causing this. I can't even remember what it's like to be normal.

I already have 2 kids and don't want any more at the moment so I don't know what the solution is. Well, I haven't wanted sex for the last few years so i suppose the bloody thing has done its job in that way!

I'm just shocked, this has been a real wake up call. I'm stopping taking the evil little things as of now.

I've been on Tri-Sprintec for a month and a half. My husband is going crazy due to my mood swings. Of course he gets the brunt of it compared to anybody else. One moment I am fine and the next I am yelling because I dropped the butter on the floor. Ten minutes later I've forgotten this instance and I'm crying for no apparent reason. I normally have normal to dry skin, and no acne (to very few) Lately my face is very itchy and I've had a lot of breakouts. I work in Law Enforcement, and have no problems with being straight forward and pushy, but lately I don't have it in me, I feel very depressed and a lot of self doubt. I also don't have a big appetite, I feel nauseas, and I do take the pill with food. I've also gained 10 pounds in the last month and a half. I don't know if this is a coincidence or if it's side effects from the birth control. I have also had a lot of headaches lately.

I had the Mirena inserted two weeks ago. It was very painful when it was inserted and I also had a few cramps the same day. It was inserted while I was on my period and the bleeding stopped the next day. My husband and I had sex two days after it was inserted and the next day I started bleeding again only it wasnt blood. It was light brown dischage and i dont know what this is but it stopped after a few days. I really didnt think anything else about it until my husband and i had sex again a few days ago and it was so painful i started crying and we had to stop. The very next day I started having the same light brown discharge. This morning I started really bleeding blood and I dont know why this is. Is this normal?
