Bug bites symptoms and conditions

Not sure if my symptoms are caused by this drug or not, but I was on it for a month for a stye infection in my eye. I had two more weeks of pills in the bottle, but I felt that after a month on this antibiotic, enough was enough. Shortly after I stopped the dose, I developed an itchy rash on my behind that felt like bug bites. Living in NYC, I feared bed bugs, but it's not that. I now have a tingling, itchy rash that comes and goes and I'm wondering if it's some allergic reaction to this drug. After hearing all of these hideous side effects, I am convinced that the next time I need treatment for anything, I'm heading to my acupuncturist FIRST, not after the fact. In this country, if the cure doesn't kill you, it will certainly compromise you. Frankly, I've never met an acupuncturist's herb I didn't like and from now on, that's where I'm putting my money- treating the whole body and the whole system, not poisoning it by addressing a lone symptom.

My experience with levaquin has been a nightmare, n a few other drugs as well. It all began last year in August. Went on vacation came back with a bad kidney infection, strep, and bug bites. Doctor gave me lev. n within mins. I was feeling the drug it was awful. I was climbing out of my skin, anxiety I guess, could not sleep but an hr. mind was racing. next day the body pains began, headache, calf, muscles all over ached, not sure if i took another pill or not, but was sent to ER. That Dr. gave me Keflex 500mg 4X a day, Now mind you I have been for the past 10 years having reactions to penicillin and other meds, so i did inform theses drs. of this as my father n siblings have also, but mine seems to be severe NOW! Then all heck broke loose. Now during the time of the keflex i still was not sleeping and the pains in muscles did not stop. everything from the lev, was still there n the keflex just added. It gave me gastritis, vaginititis, n colitis, n the dr. put me back on until the burning was unreal. Have had 7 months of pains,anxiety,numbness, tingles, acid reflux, weight lose, n reactions to every pill made. can not take zantac swelled my throat,use to take it yrs. ago. omeprazole bad to thats where the numbness has come after taking, prednisone took 2 days n my throat became inflamed n more muscles went crazy. can not take Tylenol or Ibuprofen. I have been so sick mind in a fog can barely function,Xmas was tough had to have my mother who is 75. come take care of my family n me n to take me to dr. appt. which there has been a ton, NO answers they were telling my family it was me, I was feeling like giving up crying all the time because i did not know how to let people know or how to make them see that this was not me.Finding this web site has help me keep my sanity, and show my family look this is me, I am slowly having better days as my body detoxes, but scared when i will need meds. trying to find natural ways but is slow n not sure where to go or trust. I tried to get an allergist immunologist to test me n he said these things can not happen, and refused to test me. I am on a quest to find other ways, as 2 of my children are reacting like me and it will be just a matter of time before something does this to them. My 28 yr. old has helped me alot she knew what was going on. So now she is worried what is down the road for her, my 13 got sick while i have been and received a penicillin and she started having anxiety n heart palps, n still now she gets heart palps. As i said it is in the family but it is more severe in me n my kids are having reactions sooner. So if any one has any other options for me to look into please let me know. I am about 50% back to where i was, but it has been life changing, diet has changed, no more bad stuff, coffee, quit smoking, etc. its not hard to do when you hurt n feel so bad u try anything. Try this is so long but something has got to be done about these drugs. Mainly antibiotics, My research has come up with numbers of 150,000 people die from these types of drugs, That the drug companies put drs. thru school, That mainly women this happen to, Now i know that the drugs are important and have help millions of people i just don't like the fact that they know that some of us this will happen or even kill us, They need to find solutions for us, the ones that they have harmed permanently, and not deny the drugs caused these problems. Has anyone broke out with red irritable bumps on different parts of their body. My skin will swell every other day in the evening and itch and burn. I thought they were bug bites. After staring at my arm @ work, I noticed a spot on my arm that just swelled...Then it went down. Not to mention, every time these episodes happen, they leave an ugly dark scar...Anyone?

I am glad i found this site, i just wanted to add my little bit of info for now. I have been taking Two pills a day at 800mg of bactrim for a total of 8 days so far. Because i HATE antibiotics and try my hardest to let me body work out infections and such i avoided going to the doctor for tonsillitis( i used to get it a TON when i was growing up) and noticed i had pus covered "zits" that were very HOT and raised which i researched and thought were a staph infection after reading about them online. So i ended up at the doctor, being scolded for not spending my money on their BS antibiotics.... and still ended up with a prescription. Which i had no bad reaction to until last night when i noticed my skin was hot and hives on my elbows. I put some antibiotic ointment on (thought it was bug bites from camping) and went to bed. Today my skin is still hot, i can see the start of a rash on my neck and i feel it everywhere on my arms and neck/chest. So far it has not been too bad but i think it may also have to do with the fact that i have been eating yogurt like crazy! I chose to eat activa and another similar brand that are supposed to be helpful for your digestion but not only that i was more concerned with not getting a yeast infection which i have found to be common when taking antibiotics. So I am not sure if the cultures in the yogurt are what are helping me so much but it's just a suggestion. hopefully my side affects won't get worse and as soon as 14 days is up I'm back to avoiding antibiotics all together again!

I was on Levaqin for a week (500 mg) for bronchitis. It seemed to work and I didn't notice any side effects and I am usually sensitive to antibiiotics (dizziness, etc..). However, the day after I finished my last dose I developed an itchy rash on my outer thighs, my back, my underarms and a few other random places. I also now have a yeast infection which I guess is a common side effect. The rash is what concerns me. At first I thought it wouldn't be related because it came on after I finished the antiobitcs but after reading some of these posts I see that you can get rash after taking the medication. Has anyone else had a rash AFTER taking Levaquin?

I took the med for 6 of the 10 days. When I would lay down I would feel like bug bites on my body. I thought it was bed bugs or something. It has been 5 days now and I am still itching from the rash and getting new places still everyday. I woke up today with a sore throat and it was very hard to swallow. I am sick of medications that make you worse..

I thought I had some new foreign disease, but now I think it's the Singulair! Thanks to those of you who have posted, I think I have finally figured it out! Since about May, I have had extremely itchy skin (like I am covered with bug bites, even though there is nothing on my skin to itch from), headaches, hair loss, weight gain, bloating, lower back pain, vivid dreams, night sweats, extreme sleepiness (taking naps during the day--I only do that when I am VERY sick), and general anxiousness. I was tested for hypothyroidism (that wasn't it), and went to my OBGYN to see if I had started menopause (I'm 43--she said that's not it, either). I hope if I stop taking Singulair, all this will go away. I hope this really is the cause of the strange and seemingly unrelated symptoms. I was starting to think I had something scary when it might just be from medication!

I have been on Topamax for about a month now. I take it b/c I have suffered from migraines since the age of three. I have not had a migraine since, and would normally have one five times a week. As for the side affects, the soda being flat was one that I noticed right away, and I had already done my research, so it was no surprise. Heartbreaking, yes, but expected. The tingling of the extremities is a big one for me, one of which I am slowly getting used to. I could stand to lose a few pounds, but have not seen if the weight loss thing really affects me; I think it really depends on the individual. Thankfully, I have not experienced any of the memory loss or blackouts. No major mood swings. My appetite has stayed the same. I have noticed that I seem to have some bumps on my lower leg that are not bug bites that I am going to ask the doctor about. I am a smoker, and wonder if this somehow could play a part with the Topamax and the bumps. Anyone? Overall, it's been a short time, but I have had amazing results for why I am taking it! I wish everyone well

This is just my first month using NuvaRing. So far so good. I've not had any major noticable symptoms and if anything my regular monthly mood swings (two weeks before my period) have dropped from 5 days to 2. My boyfriend really appreciates that.
I have noticed a few skin irritations, they look like bug bites and come up rather quickly and disappear just as fast. Slightly painful but not something that I can't live with.

Rash -
I have had a sinus infection since last November 2005. I had been prescribed Zithromax, Biaxin twice, Avelox, and then Omnicef in a 7-month period.

The Omnicef, a 21-day dose, was prescribed in July 2006. Two days after I finished taking the Omnicef I began to get a rash. At first I thought it was bug bites because they were on my legs, arms and back.

A week into it I realized these red bumps, that look like bug bites, were in fact more than a bug bite. I treated the bumps with Benadryl and Cortisone cream, the first week I had them, and instead of getting better the bumps were getting worse.

I happen to go to my doctor about day seven of the rash for a scheduled check-up. I asked my doctor about the rash. She seemed concerned and prescribed a Methylpred Pak. The rash began to subside about four days into the Methylpred. By the end of the Methylpred the rash was about 95% gone.

About three days after I completed The Methlpred the rash began to come back with a vengeance. I was actually worse that it was initially and was now spreading to my face. My doctor suggested I go to a dermatologist, which I did.

The dermatologist said that I was having an allergic reaction to the Omnicef and that it was not that uncommon. He prescribed Prednisone. I took the Prednisone for 10 days and again the rash began to get better, but two weeks after I began the Prednisone the rash still was not gone.

The dermatologist again gave me More Prednisone to take, but not as much as the first dose, to get rid of the rash. The rash almost went away with the exception of a couple of bumps. This was as of 9/15/06.

Today is 9/30/06 and as I write this, my back is once again covered in the rash. I am now starting to get it on my lags and arms again as well. Bah! I started taking a Methylpred Pak again this morning. This will make the third time since mid-April.

I remain hopeful that this terrible rash will clear up, as it is uncomfortable and cause for great distress.

About a week ago I woke up with some kind of bug bites on my foot. Over the course of that week I scratched them so much while I was sleeping that they became infected. My left foor swelled so much that I could not even bend my toes. I decided it was time to seek medical attention. I went to the ER and he told me that the infection in my foot was spreading up my leg and decided to put me on an anitbiotic (levaquin) and pain killer (motrin). I made him aware that my doctor had advised me not to take any medications because I was awaiting having tests done because my primary doctor thought I was having mini strokes (I am 27 years old). The doctor told me that the meds he would be putting me on would have no effect on those tests or the symptoms I was having. I was given one does of both the levaquin and motrin before I left the hospital because all pharmacies were closed at that time.

I attempted to go to bed about an hour after I got home. I had severe chest and stomache pains, became very hot, had dry mouth and a metalic taste in my mouth. Also, almost immediately had knee pain, arm numbness and felt very light headed. I was not sure if it was a side effect from the levaqin, the motrin or a combo of the two and decided to do some research. I did not like what I read and I will never take this medication again. I thought medications were supposed to help you. I am already having health issues that someone my age should not be dealing with and am starting to wonder if that ER doctor was trying to kill me, and last night, trust me, I wish someone would have to put me out of my mysery.

My seven month old was prescribed omnicef for an ear infection. I'm went to this site because I thought that she had blood in her stool but apparently that is a common side effect? (what is that red color in her stool?) She also didn't eat or drink much for several days and got two red bumps on her arm. I thought that they were bug bites. I hope that they are....

Taking Doxycycline for sinus/bronchitis infection. Still have a bad deep dry cough.. wondering if its not from the medication... also have what looks like bug bites on my lower cheeks.. but thinking it might be a rash. Definitley have the headache and disconnected feeling.. can't concentrate or handle reading/light. Heading for Jamaica in 4 days.. I'm gonna stop taking it now.. (only have a few days left).
