I am 32 years old and I have had Mirena since Oct 2006. I did fine with it at the beginning, but now I am not doing so well. I still have Mirena in me and I am scheduled for it to be removed in a couple of weeks. That's the soonest they could get me in. I cannot wait to get it out of me. I pray I will start feeling better because I cannot go on feeling as bad as I do everyday of my life. My symptoms are very similar to others that I have read. I gained weight right after I had it put in me and I have always weighed in around 125 lbs then I put on 15 to 20 lbs. I didn't realize this was the reason I gained. Not only did I gain excessive weight, but I also developed an eating disorder with all the weight I gained. I could not keep the weight off me and now I battle bulimia. Which is a horrible disease that has about destroyed my life. Although bulimia has been a battle for me I have started to over come it and I am doing 10x better than I was 2 yrs ago. As far as the Mirena goes I have dizzy spells everyday. It's not a couple of dizzy spells a day it's several. My hair comes out in hand fulls. My completion is not as pretty as it once was. I now have a little acne when acne was never any problems for me. I am tired and moody. I cry easy and I get depressed and down on myself. I do not have a period anymore but I will spot a little blood. It does seem like I have more discharge now as well. I get very bloated and my body aches. I hope I will start feeling better and getting my life back to where I want it. I want to feel good again. When I had Mirena put in me it was painful. I hope it is not as painful to have it removed as it was having it put in. I hope everyone who reads this feels better or starts to feel better. I am glad I found this site and that I can relate to several. I wish the best for everyone, because we all deserve to be at the top of our game unfortunately Mirena has brought several of us down. I pray for all of you.

Hi there. A number of years back--maybe 8 or 9 years, I was prescribed Topamax for bulimia and mood swings. I was on a dosage that eventually went as high as 75 or 100 mg. At first it improved my mood and decreased my bingeing, which was very encouraging, but I began to have really awful side effects. First was the cognitive stuff: I couldn't remember people's names and even simple logic puzzles like how to fit a pair of shoes into a shoebox correctly stumped me. Soda tasted flat. Then my moods became somewhat erratic and I began to have intestinal discomfort. Then, even more oddly, my skin started having trouble healing from minor wounds. My hair became brittle and began to fall out. At that point I gave up and stopped the medication. It really felt like I was undergoing some kind of slow poisoning, like arsenic or something.

Now, I've developed migraines and my neurologist has put me on a small dose of 25 mg at bedtime. I've been highly reluctant to acquiesce after my former experience but nothing else has worked and I sometimes have headaches that last over two weeks at a time. I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced side effects at 75 mg but not at 25?

Hopeful in NY

I've been taking Budeprion for the last 3 months and the only pleasant side effect has been that I've lost weight. The reason I've lost this weight is because from the minute I wake up to the minute I fall asleep, I'm nauseous and have awful headaches. I have to take at least 4 advils a day just to get by. Even more terrible is that I've started having the urge to hurt myself, something I've never had on any previous medicine (I've tried 3 different ones before this) and the bulimia that I thought I'd stopped is worse than ever before. I'm in college and can't afford to pay for the name brand. I don't know what to do.

So...
The Geodon seemed to make me too drowsy and I felt it was causing my sleep issue. I couldn't wake up in the morning. It was like I was still in REM while trying to wake. I could sleep until 12 noon and then realize I was late for work. Adderall barely seemed to help anymore.
After swearing off medications forever, I finally hit rock bottom realizing that my BiPolar had gotten the best of me. A DUI, WAY BAD CREDIT...I dug my self a hole of DEBT! My compulsive EVERYTHING had dug me a hole that thank God my Mother is still willing, after 22 years, is willing to help pull me out.
On my own, no psychiatrist involved, with my samples of Geodon and a prescription of Adderall provided by my primary care physician...I decided to go back on medication and so far...a week into it, I have noticed a significant difference...and so has others. Yes, I still might not want to wake up in the morning, but I am able to effectively work and actually somewhat enjoy doing it. I feel like I want to do things where as before...I just wanted to sleep or lay on the couch watching TV. I want to have a future and I want to better myself, where as before I wanted nothing but another drink and some pills. I feel that my quality of life has already improved and I hope with seeing my new psychiatrist on Tuesday, he might better my therapy.

Here is my current problem before asking my doctor.... hadn't taken any adderall for days. I took the Geodon at night, 60mg one day and 80mg the next thinking it might help with my sleep but it didn't do a thing. I Then the next day I took adderall around 7AM and 80mg of Geodon about 9PM and I couldn't keep my eyes open about 1-2 hours after taking the Geodon and I over-slept that morning and didn't wake up until after 10:30am when I am suppose to be at work at 9:00am.

Is it common for the extreme drowsiness to occur with the combination of Adderall in the morning and Geodon at night? I know before when I took both never missing either one, I was always extremely drowsy and that's one of the reasons I stopped taking meds. But after experiencing Geodon without adderall, I am wondering if the TWO don't mix well.

PLEASE HELP.

I have been on Lamictal for almost a year now and everything seemed to go okay until almost three weeks ago when I had to increase my dosage from 100 to 150mg and my Lexapro to 15mg. In the last couple of weeks, I have gained 7 pounds and I am really depressed. I have an eating disorder (bulimia) and because of this, I profusely purge my food in fear of gaining a dramatic amount of weight again. I am going to see my psychiatrist next week because all of this is going to cause me to crash.

Ive been given citalopram for depression and Bulimia.
The side effects I experienced were:
Nausea
Thoughts of suicide
Tiredness
Loss of concentration
blurred vision
diarrhoea

although most of these symptoms stopped after taking the citalopram for 2-3 weeks.

I generally feel less depressed than i used to be, although my eating problems are still here

Word finding difficulty is annoying. eye weariness is annoying. But 200 mg a day over the last 2 years has helped me tremendously with moderate/severe bulimia. It's worth it. Food doesn't control my life for the first time in my life.

I am on topomax for bulimia. it has been amazing considering the fact that i have no appetite and diahhrea all the timeand my menstrual cycle is off. also, i have the tingling sensation in my hands and feet, which hasn't gone away in a month-isn't horrible, though. i wake up in the middle of the night and very early in the morning. (never had sleeping problems like this before). also, very thirsty all the time, dry mouth, but can't seem to drink enough fluids. however, this has medication seems to help my eating disorder like nothing else. i'm going to half my dosage and see if this continues to work. although the side effects are there, until i'm comfortable enough to do this on my own and not binge, this medication has been a a life saver for me! it's worth it b/c of the appetite suppressant issue. i have no urge to use symptoms at all.

I took Tegretol for years to stabilize mood swings; diagnosis was schizoaffective, but probably that was due to side effects of antidepressants. I had never had any mania until prescribed antidepressants for depression and bulimia.

Tegretol: any time dose was changed, I would have headaches. Fierce headaches. If I tried to increase dose too fast, the result was sedation to the point of acting like I was drunk(staggering and grogginess.) I thought the Tegretol was stabilizing my moods for some time, but still had mood swings and irritability. Was put on SSDI during the time I took it, since I became unable to hold a job. My behavior was sometimes very illogical and inappropriate on this medication.
Also, was always either anemic or on the verge of anemia due to the effects of the Tegretol. This was while taking iron supplements.
I did not gain much weight (5 pounds?) but only because I dieted and exercised a LOT.
My dr found it hard to believe Tegretol gave me headaches, and told me that Tegretol is given to prevent trigeminal nerve pain etc., but the headaches decreased dramatically when I went off the med.

OK, sooooo i have had the same negative side effects as everyone here since I was 17. I am now close to age 21, and I feel like I have the energy and metabolism of a middle-aged woman who has had a child. Prior to taking Yasmine and Ortho Tri-cyline (that was my first BC), i was a VERY fit, energetic, fun, normal 17 yr old. I will never forget those first few months when people in school began to notice how huge my breasts got and how much bigger i was. I had gained about 15 pounds due to a suddenly bottemless pit of a stomach and my breasts had swelled to a size C cup from a small B. Now at age ALMOST 21 ;), I have grown to gain 20 pounds. I have horrific mood swings that have led me to self medicate with food and since I'm never full and always hungry, I eat a lot during binges. I have been diagnosed with bulimia and IBS. So naturally, i took MANY tests from the doctor (MANY MANY MANY), and they came out negative--of course. I've slept and cried my way through the past few years from mood swings. There is so much more, but i cannot find the energy to type..haha..little joke for ya. I look forward to quitting Yasmine and BC ALL TOGETHER starting tomorrow :) I look forward to my new life!!!
