Abilify was recently added to my medication of Depakote 250 x3 (i have been on this for 10 yrs), Zoloft 40 mgs (8 years), and Buspar 40 mgs (8 years). I started taking Abilify last Tuesday the 17th of March. The first night I took it I had trouble sleeping..(but i also had some caffeine that night)...for the next few nights I still had trouble sleeping...I also noticed an increase in my pulse, rapid heartbeat...and my blood pressure! This past Saturday, my blood pressure was 141/91 which was my left arm, then my right arm was 138/90. My resting pulse was 90+ with my heart pounding. I went into work today (i work in a doctors office) and had a nurse take my BP and it was 153/95...now my BP is normally 120/60...the lowest its ever been is 90/70. So to have my BP this high is very strange. I called my doctor and she advised me to stop it ASAP and to call her if i have any more problems. I already have a scheduled appointment on 04/01/09.

I have been on anti-depressants for about 10 years now. I've tried Wellbutrin, Lexapro, Prozac, and Effexor (just to name a few). I've been on Effexor (this is my 2nd time) for about 4 years now. I finally decided to get off the effexor and I desperately want to share what's been happening ever since. I slowly weened off of it, starting at my regular 175mg a day for 2 1/2 weeks, then down to 125mg, 75mg, and then 37.5. My doctor suggested I change doses every week, however I went 2 1/2 weeks because of the AWFUL side effects.
I have had the typical head "buzzing" is what I call it and my nerves are a wreck 24/7 but the worse problem I'm having and the one I haven't seen anyone write about yet is my severe stomach problems. I have had diarrhea everyday, all day, since I went off Effexor. It's been over 2 weeks since I've taken my last pill and it's not getting any better. My dr. thinks it could be IBS or bad eating habits, but I've tried changing my diet, etc. and nothing is giving me any relief. It's come to the point where I can't tell if my nerves are what is upsetting my stomach or if my upset stomach is what is setting off my nerves. Anyone else with these issues??
And in case anyone reads this before starting Effexor, please please don't use this medication. Try any and/or all other anti-depressants before using Effexor. It may work for your depression, but the side effects highly out weigh the benefits. I'm finding that out the hard way now. I would have never taken this drug if I knew what I would be in for 4 yrs down the road. And I can't help but be upset with our healthcare system when doctor's would actually prescribe this to their patients.

I have been taking Lamictal for about 2 months now. Started at 25mg and now at 150mg. I also take 10mg Lexapro and 1 mg of Ativan daily. I was diagnosed with bipolar-2 about 3 months ago. I'm not sure if this is the right combo for me. Most of my problem is with severe irritability followed by moderate anxiety and mild depression. I have never had a Manic episode just Hypomania which the doctor said is my anger and Irritability. I have been on every SSRI (anti-depressant) for the last 12 years, which does help the depression, but it increases the anger and irritability. Another Dr told me I am not bipolar-2, I just have GAD (generalized anxiety disorder). Not sure what to do anymore, the Lamictal is giving me bad headaches and dizziness and nausea. So now I take Meclizine for the those symptoms. Is there just one pill to help all these symptoms? Has anyone had any luck with Buspar??

Okay, my Dr. switched me to Topamax because I was taking my Relpax too often (3 x a week on average, but it actually stopped my headaches) which I did not realize meant that I had chronic migraines. So far I am less than impressed :(
I've experience a little tingling in one hand, the left, have no idea of why it hasn't occurred in the other. No weight loss. I am under great stress at work (I have been diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder that's being treated with 40 mg Paxil and 150mg (?) Buspar. The side effect that's killing me is the confusion and memory loss. You have no idea of how long its taken me to write this post. My mind will think of one word, but my fingers will type another. I will go back to correct and the same thing will happen. I can't really afford to be stupid at work. At home no one really cares if I'm stupid. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing, but at least I have some place to be stupid.
The worst thing is I still have the freaking headaches. I want my Relpax back and they can keep these Topamax (and yes, I see why they call it that). I'm just to the point where I'm supposed to up my dosage to 25mg in the morning and 50 at night and I'm not sure if I'm going to do it or step the dosage back down. How long is this stupidness supposed to last, on average. At what dosage do you know if its working or not for your migraines? I'm very frustrated and about to toss in the towel.
Thanks for any help,
Just call me Dopey

I was diagnosed with asthma 2 years ago when I was 47. I take Allegra, Foradil, Asmanex, Singulair and receive two allergy shots a week. I also take a tiny dose of Buspar for anxiety. I have been on Singulair for somewhere from a year and a half to two years. Two weeks ago I started having what for me are very disturbing side effects that I felt sure were drug related. Twitching leg muscles, a terrible restlessness upon waking which causes sleepliness, heavy feeling in my chest, some headaches ( I never had them before). I have had tingling in my left hand for while and I thought that was because of something else, but now I am wondering....everything is definetly new since I started this drug, but most of it recent. I went off the Allegra, Buspar, Asmanex. I had no reduction in symptoms. At the end of the week I stopped taking the Singular for two days and started to feel better, but then decided that the symptoms were was caused by something else (hormones) and resumed all meds. The symptoms came rushing back. I now have ceased the Singular, but only for a day. I am narrowing the cause of the symptoms (which elsewhere in the literature seem to be very much attributed to a medication induced situation) and I am thinking it is the Singular, particularly after both reading all of your postings and talking to friends who either have had similar effects or have family members who have and after having no reduction in symptoms after going off my other meds. I will post again after a week to let you know if Singulair appears to be the culprit. Some people I talked to whose family members have had the same reaction said that there are plenty of other things available to help the asthma symptoms and quite frankly, as far as I can tell, the inhalers are what are working the best and this drug is not worth it if you are having side effects of this nature. Fortuna, I had the same idea as you, to get my heart tested and thought maybe I was heading for a stroke or something, but now I am convinced that this is medication related. Please post again and let me know how going off this drug is working out for you. I will do the same. The best to all of you.

I was on Celexa for a year and a half and gained 40lbs!!! Has anyone else experienced this? It was a great anti-depressant but did make one somewhat lethargic. I also kept having small fits of depression here and there despite the meds. I just switched to Wellbuterin and its making me alternately spacey and moody, but i've only been on it four days. Does it get better?

THIS DRUG IS VERY ADDICTIVE IN THAT IT IS SO HARD TO COME OFF OF. I HAVE BEEN TAKEING IT FOR SEVERAL YEARS AND EVERYTIME I COME OFF OF IT I HAVE THE SAME SIDE EFFECTS. FILL DIZZY TUNNEL FISION NOISES AND LIGHT DISTURB ME TIGHT MUSTLES AND I MENTALLY JUST FILL BAD . IT LAST FOR ABOUT TWO WEEKS. AND YOU WILL FILL BACK TO NORMAL. NO MATTER WHAT THE DOCTORS SAY ABOUT LOWERING YOUR DOSAGES IT IS STILL JUST AS HARD. I WOULD SUGGEST IF YOU GET OFF OF IT DONT GET BACK ON IT. JUST BECAUSE YOUR HAVEING A BAD DAY IT DOES NOT TAKE LONG TO GET BACK INTO YOUR SYSTEM. THE BEST WAY TO DEAL WITH THIS HORRIBLE SIDE EFFECT IS PICK YOURSELF AND MAKE YOURSELF GO. I KNOW ITS YARD BUT IT WORKS.

Nor sure if it is Accupril, but doctor seems to think it is. I have red, cold tingling hands annd feet. Although I also take Plavix (75 mg), Zocor (40 mg) and Buspar(25 mg) the doctor took me off of the Accupril. I have been on all the medications for more than a year. I will keep all posted as to what has been found. So far only off the accupril 1 day and I do not notice any effect - maybe less tingling - but hands and feet are still red and cold.

I am severly depressed (no exaggeration) and my depression hasn't responded to Zoloft, Prozac, Celexa, Effexor or Buspar which is really very irritating. After being on so many meds I was close to giving up hope than I found Wellbutrin. I don't want to sound like an advertiser for it, but I have never been helped so incredibly much by a medication. My self confidence has returned, I am twice as productive as I used to be, I actually get out of bed and sex has been great. I am on 400 mg. , I take 200mg. SR twice a day. When it wears off I do notice I get tired, but thats not too bad I sleep well! When it kicks in it's great too, because I have trouble getting up and getting going in the morning and it really does help me get going. Ive cut way down on caffeine because my sensitivity to it has more than doubled. I've also cut down on cigarettes which is great. I do have a few negative side effects but I am willing to deal with them for the amount this med has helped depression. I have a racing pule and heartbeat, pretty bad headahches and nausea. Sometimes I feel almost too speedy, but it ok. I find that OTC sleep aid helps out when I need to calm down. I recommend this to anyone who has a depression marked by fatigue, overeating, cigarette problems etc.

this is the worst drug i have ever experienced, finished 28 day cycle in november 05 for prostate problems, since then i have been on buspar and xanax for anxiety and twitching! I have limbs that will go numb for no apparent reason, insomnia, terrible dreams, shortness of breath and so on. I have good days and bad...some days i feel normal and the next i will have internal shakiness, muscle spasms, feeling of fear and anxiety. I am a 39 year old male who used to be up for just about anything, now i cannot even make it through most days without wanting to curl into a ball....DO NOT TAKE THIS CRAP....I will suffer before ever taking this again!!!!!

To the girl who asked about getting on antianxiety meds: Heres my story. After 9 months of being off Yasmin and still experiencing anxiety, sleepwalking nightmares that i NEVER had prior to taking that crap fo four month, I decided to get help. I started seeing e therapist who prescribed BUspar. I took it without reservation, but unfortunately it made me feel HORRID. I had the most horrific and gruesome nightmare, woke up screaming for three days in a row, soaked in sweat. The next day I felt like i was stoned, I was paranoid and foggy and had no depth perception. So no more of that I decided and then they gave me zoloft. I couldn't bring myself to take it due to the fact that I KNEW it would be a struggle to get off due to the experiences of my friends who are/ were on it. I decided to just tough it out. Now it has been almost a full year off of it and I am doing better. The anxiety is only about 2 times a month, like when i ovulate and before my period. It is like a tiny wave not a tsunami this time either. Hang in there you will get better but in the meantime i would read HOPE AND HELP FOR YOUR NERVES by DR CLAIRE WEEKS. I swear to god, had Inot picked up that book on AMzaon.com I may have killed myself. Good Luck

I have been taking effexor xr for about 3 weeks now. Started on 37.5 and then a week later went to 75 mg. I was taking lexapro prior but freaked out one day on that stuff....so my dr. changed me over to effexor. I have taken everything from prozac, paxil, celia, lexapro, zoloft, & buspar. So far the only side effect I have experienced has been a headache the first week and a half, which subsided. I take it for GAD and social anxiety......I was very timid about taking it after reading all these horrible things, but with any drug you have side effects and what works for one may not work for another, you just need to listen to your body and give the drug the appropriate time to get into your system and do what it is supposed to. I plan to continue to take it, so far so good!

I've been on Wellbutrin XL for about 9 weeks now and I originally started out on 150mg a day and now my dose has been upped to 300mg a day. I was put on wellbutrin to see if it would help me quit smoking and also for depression. Previously I was on Zoloft and Buspar together. (I won't even get into the side effects with those two)
1. After about a week on 150 mg I experienced sharp and short headache pains in different places but that has since gone away.
2. I am on a computer at work for 8 hours a day and sometimes it seems to take me a few seconds to catch up with the words/numbers I'm typing and at times It seems like I'm re-arranging letters or numbers around backwards without really noticing it unless I check it as I type. Hopefully this will go away it seems to be slowly disappearing.
3. I've also noticed an increased sensitivity to light.
4. I've also felt very energetic, pulse racing and keep thinking my heart is going to jump out of my chest and sometimes there is some slight discomfort.
5. The oddest thing to happen and this only started happening 4 days ago is that I've started having heart burn symptoms and I've never really even had heartburn before maybe once or twice in my life. I think it has to be the wellbutrin but I'm not sure if thats a HUGE side effect or happens to most people but I did see a couple of people mention that in the previous posts. It's really starting to make me nervous and I've been taking tums etc. like crazy and I hope this side effect goes away as soon as possible.
6. An additional note to line 5 I've also experienced constipation.
7. I did experience a decrease in appetite for a couple of weeks but that seems to have stopped. I haven't noticed any weight loss or weight gain at all. My weight has stayed the same for the most part give or take a couple of pounds.
8. Sex Drive: orgasms are more intense
9. Dry mouth: that has stopped completely
10. I do drink alcohol and smoke regularly and due to the risks I was told not to suddenly stop drinking etc. due to reverse side effects of the wellbutrin and what could happen and I'm still drinking here and there so maybe thats causing the heart burn along with the wellbutrin; I'm not completely sure.
I have not experienced any joint pain, loss of hearing or ringing in the ears, hives, increase in acne or seizures since I've been on wellbutrin. The only side effect I'm having trouble dealing with is the Heart Burn and it has to be the Wellbutrin since I've never experienced it really before or I could just be getting older. (27) Either way it is has been almost intolerable at times.
All in all it's not a bad drug so far and hopefully as time goes on the side effects will lesson.
If you have experienced heart burn as a side effect feel free to respond I'm very curious to see how common it is.
This site has really given me some insight about this medication.
Best Regards

To the poster a few below: YES my premenstrual symptoms are horrid after getting off yasmin. I have been off for 8 months now and my PMS is worse then it has ever been in my life. I am SO incredibly iritatble the week prior to my period and my cramps are horrendous which before I never even took an advil.
Also my anxiety went away about three months after getting off yasmin, but now is back about 75 %. I am in therapy and thinking about getting on Zoloft or Buspar. I HATE the idea of being medicated but I feel like I am out of options becasue the quality of my life has siginificantly been diminished. I fight with my fiance over nothing becaause he is worn out over my "yasmin drama". I am starting to get depressed becasue there is no end in sight to my anxiety. Anyone who was off it more then 8 months who has gotten better PLEASE LET ME KNOW!!!

I've been taking buspar for a couple months and every now and then I experience some weird side affects. I feel lightheaded and sometimes have headaches that can last for days. It's not like a normal headache; It feels like a pressure feeling inside of my head. It comes and goes, but when it starts it's pretty persistant and can take several days to go away? I was almost starting to wonder if I had a brain tumor? Anyone else experience these symptoms?

My 17 year old daughter is on Yasmin and has been for over a year. She is taking it to regulate her periods and heavy bleeding. We have not noticed any side effects at all. She has a learning disability and a low IQ. She is also on Buspar for anxiety which she has had long before Yasmin. She is also on Strattera for her ADD. Now, after reading and hearing about all these terrible side effects such as stroke, heart disease, kidney failure, blood clots, etc. I am going to ask our doctor about this. I read one post that said if you were on Yasmin and you had to take Motrin you should have blood tests...what kind if this is true? She just had her wisdom teeth out and has taken plenty of Motrin along with other pain medication. This is just way too scary....scared Mom in SC
