I am so sick of my mirena and I have only had it for about 1 month. First of all cause of my insurance, it cost me, $967 to have this thing and if I have it removed, I am still responsible for this bill... one incentive to keep it but on the other side, I have gained close to 10 pounds in one month and I have not changed diet or exercise, still 5x weekly exercise and healthy eating, the occasional cookie as always. I am crazy irritable and impatient beyond belief and feel more and more guilty that my 6 year old child is witness to my aggravation and mood swings. I have had two yeast infections since and still have a lot of discomfort, very mild down there, not to mention I am still bleeding and feel bloated all the time. I cut the caffeine a little thinking this would help but it didn't, I was more tired.. I swear, Kaiser screwed me over and if I had known, not only the expense of it, but read up prior I would not have had this fitted, now I am going to take it out and be left with a bill for something I don't have.... :( sad face!

I have been on paxil for ten years . I decided after doing some research and talking to other people that I want to get off of this drug. I am tired of my doctor telling me that it is not addictive. I am seriously thinking on getting another dr.
It has been almost two weeks since I took any pill. My withdrawal seems to be getting worse but I read on one of these forums that withdrawal will not kill me and I keep plugging. I did give up anything with caffeine. I loved my coffee. I just switched to decaf tea or herbal tea. Sooner or later I figure I will start to feel better. It may take months though as i have been on ten mg for years. Then for about 6 months I took a half pill. Then I lowered it to a half pill every other day and then I went to when I could not stand the withdrawal. Now I just said the heck with it and quit. Any advice what I can do yet to help with the withdrawal. I hate the dizziness. That has got to be the worse. I feel like everything has gotten louder to me. And I snap everyone's head off. I hope this wont last much longer. Just need to vent.

Abilify was recently added to my medication of Depakote 250 x3 (i have been on this for 10 yrs), Zoloft 40 mgs (8 years), and Buspar 40 mgs (8 years). I started taking Abilify last Tuesday the 17th of March. The first night I took it I had trouble sleeping..(but i also had some caffeine that night)...for the next few nights I still had trouble sleeping...I also noticed an increase in my pulse, rapid heartbeat...and my blood pressure! This past Saturday, my blood pressure was 141/91 which was my left arm, then my right arm was 138/90. My resting pulse was 90+ with my heart pounding. I went into work today (i work in a doctors office) and had a nurse take my BP and it was 153/95...now my BP is normally 120/60...the lowest its ever been is 90/70. So to have my BP this high is very strange. I called my doctor and she advised me to stop it ASAP and to call her if i have any more problems. I already have a scheduled appointment on 04/01/09.

I have just bought a pack of Yasmin for birth control and heavy periods but haven't taken any yet, nor have i ever tried BC pills before. I suffer from severe migraines daily it ruins everything i do and my GP's have been completely useless they don't even ask me any symptoms about my headaches and refused to let me see a specialist. The only thing he did was tell me I need to go on painkillers indefinitely which does not appeal to me at all.
I am now wondering if i should take Yasmin or not after reading all these bad reviews especially concerning migraines. Has anyone with constant migraine found a way to help them? Please let me know as im desperate to know what it feels like to not have a migraine.

I have been taking 300mg of Topamax BID for 4 years. I also am Taking 300mg of Lamictal BID. I have had all The same side effects that have been listed. I still get some numbness and tingling in my hands, feet or legs from time to time. The weight loss eventually leveled off for me. (My Dr. said that would happen). I lost 30lbs and gained 10lbs back. the confusion and memory loss was a big deal for me, but I had finally found a great combination of meds that controlled my seizures. I found B12 shots and no caffeine really helped keep my mind clear and gave me back my "verbal capacity" (you guys know what I mean).
Overall I think it's a great drug. It defiantly changed my life for the better.
I Tried 4 others before I tried Topamax.
Nothings gong to be perfect.

hi I take ambien CR 12.5 mg as needed, and have for about the last two months. recently is worked fine, but in the past if I've taken a nap that day or drank a little caffeine I think it didn't work as well. But more recently on the days it's worked, I can remember waking up after about 8 hours but not 'jumping out of bed' um more somber? Like I went to get a haircut one morning and just remember feelings kind of like depressed mood. um maybe not all because of the ambien!

hey, my name's Sam, I've been on Geodon for a little over a year. Yesterday I raised my dose from 160, 80 two times daily to 240, two eighties and one at night. wow. um i did this because i was feeling like i did when I'm withdrawing from caffeine, about 3 hours after my morning pill. Other side effects are I can't drink caffeine because it will usually make me 'freak out' at things that are too much and sometimes triggering mental and heart panic attacks. I'm 22 and schizoo

oh my god!! I have ALL of the same side effects as you do! The only strange thing is that I've been on this pill for 2 1/2 years now and I loved it up until this past week. I missed a pill on Fri so I took two on Saturday night...within 2 hours I was crying hysterically and having a full blow anxiety attack. it was so strange and scary. It came out of nowhere! then i woke up Sunday morning and cried every hour...I've never been like that in my entire life!!!! Now 4 days later my heart keeps "fluttering" (i don't know how else to describe it), I feel like i've been living in a fog...I thought i was going crazy! I am a 23 year old, healthy, active woman so none of my symptoms made sense!! My dr. keeps telling me that I have major anxiety problems (even though i live a very stress-free life and am very upbeat, outgoing and optimistic!) and prescribed me Lexapro. I have had a panic attack in the past, but it feels NOTHING like this. I am also having some inner ear problems, like I maybe have a sinus infection-it kind of pops in and out. anyone else have that? the heart thing and the fog is my biggest concern, should I switch pills or should I just get off BC completely? Any suggestions would help. I have a call into my obgyn right now.

Been on welbutrin (bupropion) 150mg sr for 4 years. I quit smoking after about 6 months the taste of cigs were nasty. I lost 30 pounds but also started my workout at curves. I have had neck pain for about a year now and I am wondering if this is a side effect of the welbutrin. Went to a specialist at a university orthopedic and nothing is wrong with my neck but the muscles in the back of my neck hurt constantly. Also has anyone ever tried the super dieters tea while on welbutrin. Overall I have had no side effects with welbutrin everyone is different though.

I went to my doctor this past Thursday because I was experiencing ringing in my ears for about a month. No other symptoms other than the ringing - and it was just quite annoying. Doc put me on Avelox and Prednisone for a sinus infection. Took the first dose Thursday and the second Friday morning. Within and hour, the back of my head and neck were so full of intense pressure and pain. I felt dizzy, unsteady, sweaty and panicky. Called the doc who said that I wouldn't react that fast, and it was probably just part of the sinus infection. Continued to take both drugs all weekend, but still felt the intense pain and pressure after taking the Avelox. Last night, woke up around midnight with severe panic attack, disorientation, pain and pressure in the back of my head and neck - Scary! I called my doc and I told him I'm not taking it anymore. I had NO symptoms when I went to see him and left with more "stuff" going on in my head now! I'm going to see an ENT now.

I'm taking 20/12.5 mg of lisinopril and have an RX for 50mg of toprol, of which I'm only now taking 12.5 mg of...thanks in LARGE part to my HBP getting better....think my HBP was hereditary and meds were overprescribed to begin with.....had some stamina and erectile probs, I dont think a man of my age should really have to be concerned with!!!! BLOATING is my biggest prob. I've cut down on what I eat, sodium intake, caffiene etc. Still at times, I look like a Sherman tank!!! Started HBP meds 7yrs ago, and have weighed around 200 lbs. for 10 to 12 yrs. I'm 6' 1" and 43 yrs. old...doc says my heart is in great shape. But the bloated stomach sucks, especially when I'm single, and trying NOT to be!!! I love my beer, and no offense to anyone, but looking like a beer-swillin big bellied bubba, dont get you many dates, if ya know what I mean!!!! Just wondering if anyone knows what I can do to alleviate the bloated look????

Hello All,
As I read new stories on this site from women just realising the devastating effects of Yasmin, it breaks my heart.
I stopped taking Yasmin 2 years ago, after I found this site desperate for a reason for my complete insanity (anxiety, depression, panic attacks, vertigo....with no history of such). I had been on Yasmin for close to 2 years with the first year and a half symptom free....the last 6 months on it I became an entirely different person....scared to leave my house, utterly depressed and completely bewildered as to why when I had never felt this way, and had no reason to.
I cried as I read this site and realised Yasmin was poisoning me and my mind. I immediately stopped it (although it is recommended you only stop at the end of the pack you are on...I couldn't wait). Well the depression lifted within days....the dark cloud literally left like a miracle from above. Anxiety proved difficult as it continued for a few months but each month got better and I continually read from this site to remind myself that although I felt out of my mind at times, it was as a result of my body detoxing itself from this drug.
I did have plenty of times when I thought the old me was gone forever....but I now am back. Trust that you are getting better....trust that the real you is not mad or crazy and is returning slowly.
I recently read the following website and found it really made sense, particularly as my blood tests after yasmin kept saying my hormonal levels were 'normal' even though I didn't feel back to normal. You need to click on the 'cure for PMS' section. I would recommend all of you coming off this poison read it....
I wish you all the very best of healing and health. Take care of yourselves, avoid caffiene, white sugar, excess salt (none of which help anxiety) and drink plenty of water and exercise....and always remember to talk to someone about how you're feeling as you go through this...I always felt better talking rather than letting things stew in my head...even if it sounded insane....my sister was a godsend reminding me that I was going through a detox.
Be well!!!!

I took 500mg of Levaquin once a day for two days. I stopped taking it because of the frightening side effects that I experienced. The doctor prescribed the antibiotic for a mild case of campylobacter. I normally never take medicine for anything, but the doctor assured me that this antibiotic was very strong and would take care of my problem. However, after a few hours after the first dose I began to experience a rapid heart beat, tightness of the chest, and about once every fifteen minutes I could feel my heart skip a beat. Unfortunately, I took another dose the following day, but I experienced much of the same. I stopped taking it after that because I thought that no treatment was worth these effects. It has been 3 days since I took my last dose and my heart is still racing and skipping beats. I told my doctor and he told me that this was just a common side effect of levaquin when caffiene is mixed with levaquin. But I have avoided caffiene for days. It's very scary to have something wrong with your heart when you are otherwise very healthy. I hope these symptoms leave because it's driving me crazy!!!!

All I can say is that this posting has made me feel a bit less crazy... At first I loved Yasmin. I lost a sugnifficant amount of weight and felt very good about my body... 3 or 4 months into it I started having severe panic attacks. I had never had a panic attack before so it scared me even more because I did not know what was going on. I was having panic attacks on the subway ride to work. Many times people would move and sit me down and offer me water because I would turn white and start sweating. I thought maybe it was stress so I began to see a therapist... Which helped a bit but I did not want to take any other medicines that the doctor kept pushing on me so I stopped going. The attacks stopped but the emotional rollercoaster continued very much. I cry ALL THE TIME and get mad very easily. My boyfriend is very supportive of me and helps me get through the depressions and anxiety-- but I don't think it is fair for him to have to do that. More recently I have been getting "brain zaps" that make me a bit dizzy for a moment and then go away. It is very odd... I've also gone and been tested for every allergy ever because everything I eat gives me a stomach ache. I thought it was maybe because I was having too much caffiene but I stopped drinking that and the attacks stopped-- but not the depression and anxiety in general. I never really pointed to the BC until my best friend said she and another friend were having the same symptoms and we were all on the same BC... That said, I'm currently looking for one that doesn't make me insane!!! And doesn't make me gain weight... I can't gain weight or I will stop taking it. So if anyone has any suggestions, please let me know!!!!!

I HAVE BEEN TAKING ADVAIR 100/50 FOR 6 MONTHS NOW.
AND UNTIL READING THIS WEBSITE I THOUGHT SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH ME. I FEEL NERVOUS AND HAVE BAD ANXIETY,FREQUENT HEADACHES,HEART PALPITATIONS,RACING HEART,EXCITMENT. AND I CAN'T DRINK OR EAT ANYTHING WITH CAFFIENE OR ALOT OF SUGAR BECAUSE THE SIDE EFFECTS GET WORSE. I'M THINKING ABOUT STOPPING MY ADVAIR.

I began a low dosage of Maxide on 21 Feb 2006; i.e., 1/2 tablet three times/week for high blood pressure. I have a high sensitivity to any drugs (including Tylenol) or adverse reactions to them so I have never taken medications of any kind except an occasion antibiotic and fortunately I have been healthy. I just turned 61 yrs old and I still think the high blood pressure is due to my husband (LOL). My first two doses of Maxide put me in bed. I was dizzy, nauseous, my legs (toes, calves and thighs) and arms tingled and my knees were so weak I could barely stand. My heart rate soared and my back felt like my kidneys had hardened to stone consistency so that if I looked at my back in the mirror, they would be sticking out of my back. I also felt I was listing to the left, I was shaky and I was very cold. I felt really bad. Fortunately I did not have any rash. The symptoms started both days exactly 1/2 hour after taking the half tablet and subsided exactly 12 hours later. The benefit was that the following day, I felt better than I had since I can't remember when and I had tons of energy (which is new to me) except I still had a sore back.
By the second dose, in addition to the above side effects, my head felt disconnected, my neck hur and the left side of my throat and my left ear felt numb; the nausea had increased. I kept a diary of time and symptoms and faxed them to my doctor but I had taken the third dose by the time she phoned me. The second dose I took a couple hours after coffee in case the drug was interacting with caffiene. No difference.
In the meantime I had picked up some bananas at the store just because they looked good and I had eaten one not long after taking my third dose. My symptoms nearly all disappeared almost immediately. I did not connect the two until reading posts on here, so thank you for that. However, please be careful about potassium intake because an overdose can be lethal quickly.
Good luck to everyone and may you each feel better soon.

Silke- Thank you for your post. I am just hanging in there. I had some anxiety today but I guess it is par for the course. This is unfortunately not going to be easy. I am so glad that I am off of Yasmin! Today would be the day that I started a new pack -- instead it is going into the trash!
Another update--- I took the Paxil CR 25 at 9:30 last night. It was a disaster. It felt like I took 10 cups off caffiene at once. I was unable to rest and was extremely jittery, dizzy, lightheaded, saw spots... you name it.
This morning, I paged my internal med doc and told him what happened. He said not to take the Paxil 25 anymore(that the psychiatrist prescribed) and take the 12.5 (which I was doing OK on, just that it wore off in early evening) starting tomorrow am. He also told me to take the xanax as needed for anxiety so I took a half pill this afternoon.
michellep - sounds like alot of tyenol - are you OK?
Lisa- thank you for your Mirena input. It is helping me to reinforce my convincing myself NOT to do it. No pds sound very nice but I cannot justify the side effects.
My husband and I have been up for 2 nights straight with a sick baby (fever, vomiting, etc....) so I am sure that it is not helping my anxiety (or whatever is making me feel this way) that I am not getting enough sleep.
GOOD NEWS -- I lost about 5 pounds. Bad news is that I am finding that I have very little appetite. I think just being off of Yasmin has reduced my water retention.
All the best to each and every one of you.......

Hi Everyone,
I was on the web trying to investigate birth control pills and came across this website. I am comforted to know that I am not the only person experiencing such problems with Yasmin, and I extend my sympathies to everyone.
I had been taking Depo Provera on and off for 5 years and my doctor's suggested I switch methods due to the bone loss associated with Depo. Since I've always had problems with my skin, they recommended Yasmin, so I started Yasmin in early December. At first it seemed fine and I had mild nausea, which I was told was normal. Then about 1.5 months into my medicine I started getting these horrendous headaches that just incapacitated me. I tried everything to get rid of them: I took Tylenol and Aspirin simultaneously, I added caffiene to my diet, stopped caffiene, tried to get more sleep, and exercise more and NOTHING made them go away. They started as throbbing when I woke up in the morning and progressed to full blown migrane by 11:00am, which made it almost impossible to work. I was so dizzy and foggy when I would drive I was certain I was going to have an accident. Some days I would get home from work at 5:30pm and go straight to bed it hurt so bad.
So I went to my doctor for my 3 month checkup and he insisted that I stop immediately because he was afraid I would have a stroke. I have now been off of it for one week and I feel 100% better. Not a single headache.
Have others of you been on other forms of birth control pills and had similar problems? My doctor said I am sensitive to the hormones in the Pill, so I will have this problem with all pills. Is this true? If so, what other options are there for contraceptives?
Thank you for your help!!

If anyone ever hears of a class action lawsuit or some movement to get it off of the market in the USA against Berlex by the former users of YASMIN, please post here. I would be glad to share my story.
I was never like this.... REALLY. I am now on medications for my anxiety and receiving outpatient therapy.... If anyone ever told me that I would end up like this, I would not have believed it. The more I read, the more I realize and associate the symptoms with the time that I was on Yasmin.
I also took myself off of caffiene. I figure that it can't hurt. I have two little kids to take care of.
Thank God my family and husband are being helpful and understanding. I referred them to this board and that is how they realized that I was not making this up!
Good luck to all of you. I will keep posting as the days go on.

Hello There,
As someone who has now been off Yasmin for 7 months and suffered from acute anxiety from week 4 after getting off it, I can honestly say it has takent his entire time to feel like the 'old me'.
Another piece of advice for the lady worrying herself about a tumour, all of us who have suffered from anxiety and panic know that rationality does not always over power the irrationality of our thoughts, fears and 'what if's'. I would recommend you actively seek out medical advice to assure yourself that you do not have a tumour. I don't believe you do, but know how strongly your fears take over your life. It is better to take action and work through these fears then try and ignore them. The worst thing you can do with anxiety is let it rule your life and stop you from living it. You need to actively participate in everyday life to 'sensitise' yourself to it.
Believe me I know how hard life is when you are suffering from this. I also know how easy it was to shut down, not leave the house and just 'exist'. I now know that I always felt better when I pushed myself to experience things that I was fearful of (things mind you that I'd previously never feared...until Yasmin of course!).
Again I'd recommend anyone suffering from anxiety have their hormone levels checked, as low progesterone plays a major role in this. Our progesterone levels are so high when we are taking Yasmin that when we stop taking it they dive down. Herbal remedies such as Agnus Castus can be of assistance.
Warning about magnesium supplements. I started taking them about 3 months after I'd finished Yasmin as I was desperate for the anxiety to go and had heard they could help....unfortunately after a week on them I suffered 3 full days of complete panic and as a result had to stop. Be careful.
Another tip...STOP ALL CAFFIENE. This helped me a huge deal.
Goodluck all and god bless :)

Kay, I completely understand your exhaustion over the time it takes to feel better after getting off Yasmin, but you need to TRUST that although you dont feel it, everyday is a day closer to being the 'old Kay'. It has now been 4 months for me and I am only really feeling like my old self now, you need to take one day at a time. By the sounds of it, you are currently either ovulating or pre-menstrual...you always feel worse around these times. I understand that knowing you will get better soon isnt always enough to make you feel better right now. The biggest thing is to TALK to your friends and family. They need to know exactly how you're feeling. Get them to read posts on this website. I'd also recommend you make an appointment to see a psychologist. This is not because anything is wrong with you, but as a result of taking Yasmin you are suffering side effects that you currently have no control over. I have been seeing a psychologist for the first time in my life over this whole experience and it has helped enormously. He reminded me that I need to stop being so hard on myself and that I am making gains....its' always good to have other people's views on our progress as it's often difficult for us to see.
I'd also recommend you cut out any caffiene, white sugar, white flour etc as it only makes you feel more on edge.
I found meditation helpful as it helped calm me down.
You need to know that you're not alone. All Yasmin Survivors out there are sharing your pain, and we all have brighter times ahead!!!

To Kay who just recently posted, HANG IN THERE....I was on Yasmin for nearly 2 years and suffered from depression, rapid heart rate and severe anxiety for the last couple of months of taking it before realising it was due to Yasmin and getting off it. I have now been off it for 4 months and everything has been getting better each month...however, the main symptom that has lingered has been ANXIETY. Prior to Yasmin, I have never in my life had an issue with anxiety and each month (mainly around ovulation and period time) I get obsessive/irrational/negative thoughts and become more panicky and anxious. Each month has gotten better, but I am aware of it taking anywhere up to 7 months for some women for these effects to completely go. Be sure to cut out any caffiene as this only makes it worse. Also, I tried magnesium supplements as I heard it can lessen anxiety but it only made me worse so I stopped. It DOES get better but it takes a while. I think we almost need a website for those who have STOPPED taking Yasmin as much as those suffering whilst on it. GOODLUCK and take care.
WARNING to the guest who posted a reply to desperate boyfriend about the fact that you are now on Yasmin and feeling great...I too thought Yasmin was great for a year and a half until I was completely taken over with depression, dizzy spells, rapid heart rate and anxiety. Please watch how you're feeling as I would not recommend Yasmin to anyone, and would not wish my experience on my worst enemy. Do not be lulled into a false sense of security cause it seems to be ok at the moment. If I had been warned of the possible effects of this pill I could have saved myself and my family a whole lot of heartache.
Lots of hugs out there to those getting off this awful drug. It takes time, but you will get better and get back to your 'old self'!!!

I've had my Mirena for almost 3 years now, and I'm contemplating having it out. I didn't know that some of my symptoms could be linked to it, but after reading this, I have the same story as many of you.
It's been awesome having no periods, and it's nice not to worry about birth control, but I'm not sure if it's worth the side effects.
I've recently had such bad anxiety and depression that I've been seeing a therapist and have been prescribed antidepressants (I am not taking any right now because I did not like the side effects of Lexapro). There is really nothing in my life right now that should be depressing me (just got married, doing my "dream job"), so perhaps the Mirena is to blame.
I've also had a terrible time sleeping lately (for the past several months). I used to sleep like a baby. Now, I'm beginning to have to rely on sleeping drugs, and I hate that.
I've always suffered from lower back pain, but you'd think my new memory foam mattress would be helping. It's not.
I've also been super tired lately, and have had bouts of random nausea. Strangely, I also cannot handle my caffeine anymore. I used to drink tea all day, but now one cup is my limit before my head feels like it's going to explode.
Besides all that, probably the worst part is my dead sex drive. I KNOW there used to be a time when I wanted to have sex, but I can barely remember it. Being 26 and newly married is a shitty time to have no sex drive. Besides my not being thrilled about sex in the first place, it sometimes hurts! It's like the Mirena is stabbing me!
All of my symptoms have been around for approximately the past year. When I first had the Mirena put in, it hurt like HELL! I have never had a baby, so I'm sure it hurt extra for me to have it put in, but I swore right then and there that I'd never get another one put in, no matter how well it worked. A few weeks later, during one of my last periods, I passed a HUGE blood clot. Like, the size of a walnut. I mentioned this to my doctor several times, but it never seemed to concern her. The periods eventually went away (yes!!), and everything seemed to be good for several months before my current symptoms began showing up. I'm wondering why I would just be seeing the symptoms now (they started about a year after I had it put in), and not right after insertion.
Luckilly, I have not had any problems with weight gain. I've always lost a lot of hair around the house, so I'm not sure I can blame that on the Mirena. I did have some weird acne, though, in places I've never had it before (back, chest).
This thing hurt soooo much to have it put in; I'm wary of having it taken out now. I hear that it doesn't hurt nearly as much to have it taken out. Can anyone confirm this?
Also, a side note: my friend had one for a couple of years before it became lodged in her uterus and she had to have it surgically removed.
