I am 65 yrs , very active. Play hockey, baseball, slopitch, and jog.
Started on Lipitor 10gm about 5 years ago. About 6 months later increased to 20gm. about 1 years later increased to 40 gm. Did not really notice any side effects. During that time cholesterol dropped from approx in Aug2005 to 8.01: ; Jan06 to 6.37:; Apr06 to 5.3 ; May09 @ 4.2. No problems noticed while on 40s for about 2 years.
June09 doctor increased to 80 gm !? Started to notice muscle cramps and pain . Also started to notice some stomach upsets.Thought I had strained a hamstring muscle from hard running acceleration but not sure now after reading some of the comments. Three days ago , although I always stretch for 1/2 to 3/4 an hour before every baseball which I play 4 times a week, I had very severe muscle cramps suddenly above my calf muscle just below the knee as I started to run to 1st base. I played the rest of the game but in pain and could not run hard . Could not sprint on my toes as I always did , so had to run about half speed but flat footed on the bases but painful,as we had only 9 players. Had hot shower Thursday night after game, massaged calf area with Wintercrest ointment. Got up this morning Friday , muscle sore but can walk on my toes. Tonight @ midnight slight soreness but most of the pain gone. I was thinking that I might have strained a calf muscle playing baseball but noway! I think it has to do with the doubling of the Lipitor from 40 to 80!!!! Will cut back back to 40 gm on my own till I see the doctor.
Will go to see my Doctor ASAP!!!

53 year old, otherwise healthy Type1 diabetic. HCA1 scores are typically 6.5-6.7. I lead an active, athletic lifestyle, with no circulation issues. Prior to Lisinopril, I have never experienced allergic responses to meds, hives or any similar issues. I have never experienced blood pressure issues; but Doc suggested Lisinopril for preventative maintenance, protecting kidneys. I took Lisinopril 5 mg. once daily, for almost 5 months without issues. In the middle of month 5, Urticaria appeared around mid-calf area, accompanied by a nerve-racking itch. In the next 2 weeks, itching started in hairline of scalp, moving spreading all the way down to ankles. I was almost 2 weeks into an elimination diet before discovering on a blog that urticaria was a possible side effect of Lisinopril. Discontinued Lisinopril 1.5 weeks ago, several days after starting 30mg Cetirizine & 30mg Loratadine . Itching is still present; but all urticaria have subsided, save for scalp. Menthol has been the only effective comfort for the itching.
Prior to taking Lisinopril, my only urticaria experience originated from exposure to poison ivy. I am convinced Lisinopril is the root cause.

Hi! I have started the NuvaRing almost three weeks ago, and I have been feeling sooo tired that I have lost all my interest in everything-except sleep.Also-I have had these weird, charley-horse type cramps in my calfs which swing down and around the arch of my feet. The cramps started exclusively on my right side; but recently I have started feeling them on my left. I would wake up in the morning, get up and I could hardly walk until sometime in the early afternoon. Today, fed up with this crap, I took the damn thing out-and almost immediately the charley horse tightness and pain dropped off. I also knew it would not be long before I would start to gain weight, as I have slacked off my exercise program due to major fatigue. It has been only a day, but I am feeling great, knowing I made the right decision. I have varicose veins in my thigh and calf area-and I fear the blood clots that the ring would predispose me to. I don't need birth control as my husband is infertile; this was prescribed to clear up a cyst.

On Jan 5th I started a 10 day treatment of Levaquin 500mg. On the 2nd night i experienced sever pain in the lower calf area of my right leg. This continued on the following nights and days. I had and have constant extreme pain and diffucility walking. I thought the problem would go away after i finished the Levaquin, but still continues to this day.

I have been on Toprol XL (25mg) for about a month and a half. It was perscribed because I was getting more frequent bouts of rapid heartbeat from mitral valve prolapse. After taking this drug, the immediate first effect was tiredness. Then after about a week I had more pain in the right calf area of my leg. I had some pain in the leg previous to this, so I didn't think much of it. But it got rapidly worse within a couple weeks. In addition, I started to develop severe pelvic/hip/buttock pain on the right side. I was having trouble getting up from a sitting position, getting in and out of cars, and trouble standing on my feet for more than 5-10 minutes. When I asked the cardiologist about it, saying that these symptoms seemed to coincide with the beginning of taking Toprol, he told me that it sounded like sciatica and had no correlation to the medicine. So I went to a different doctor who perscribed anti-inflamatories and physical therapy. But none of it helped, and, in fact, the symptoms got worse. After about a month and a half of all of this, essentially alot of pain and not being able to walk, I decided to wean myself off of this drug (a week of 1/2 dosages). The pain is virtually gone and I can now stand on my feet and walk again (all within the span of a couple days).

I took ortho-tricycline low for 6 years with no problems whatsoever. At 18 my doctor switched me to Yasmin, by my 28th day on Yasmin I had a intense dull pain in my left hip/groin area and the of my knee and calf area. After two weeks of putting it off as a sprain, it had only gotten worse, my entire left leg was swollen to about twice the normal size and had purplish discoloration and I was could barely walk or sit. I was taken to the ER where they diagnosed me with a DVT the size of a softball in my left thigh. I spent two weeks in the hospital on narcotic painkillers and IV Coumadin before they would let me go home. I spent an additional 6 weeks at home on light duty and bed rest. I stayed on Coumadin for a year before it almost killed me as well. Today I am 23 years old and still feel the effects of the clot I had 5 years ago. My leg a calf are still swollen, though not nearly as bad and anytime I'm on my feet or have to sit in a chair all day I have to deal with moderate pain. I wasn't on Yasmin on Yasmin long enough to experience any other side effects but I would strongly advise you do your research before taking this medication.
