Well...I guess I'm not crazy. My doctor assured me this pill was great...I'm finding that not to be the case! I was put on Femcon FE following the birth of my second child via c-section. Since starting the pill I have experienced headaches, depression and MAJOR WEIGHT GAIN. Prior to the pill I was about 3lbs. away from my pre-pregnancy weight. After 6 weeks on the pill I have gained over 12lbs. It makes no sense. I am monitoring my caloric intake which is around 1500-1700 calories per day. I attend a tough "boot camp" style workout 4 days a weeks. How can I be gaining weight? I'm considering just going off birth control all together. I'm 39 and our family is complete. I just can't tolerate this much longer.

41 years old, started NuvaRing 7 days ago and just removed it having been on it for just 1 week. I wasn't using it for birth control but rather to eliminate my period. (3 weeks in, then insert new one) I hope I removed it in time to avoid all the complications describe in your posts. I experienced stomach pain and nausea on the first day but that subsided. I'm a very active person working out daily burning at least 1200 calories per day. I gained 4 lbs in 5 days. Very unusual for me. By day 2 water retention, lethargy, stomach bloating, feeling pregnant, feeling irritable was overwhelming. Today, I got up to go to the gym something I do every morning and I could barely bring myself to put on my clothes, I was in a fog and by the time I got there I knew I would not be able to do the spin class. I have been in a funk all day, very blue (not quite depressed) and very tired.

Had mild arrhythmias after some months leading to an SVT. Placed on 50mg Toprol. No outward symptoms, except for weight gain. About 10 pounds in 6 weeks. Was allowed to go back to my exercise routine (5 miles a day) and, after two weeks, haven't lost a pound. But I haven't gained, either. This stuff is brutal. I assume it is because the metabolism is slowed down, you burn less calories per day. Must work out harder.

This is a follow-up to my previous posting (Tue, 13 Sep 2005 10:32:40 -0500 by Guest, #13255). Almost 3 years on lisonipril now and only positive results. As noted in my previous post, I had BP of 150/160 over 85/90. Now consistently at 120/60 with resting pulse between 45 and 55 BPM. I would recommend this drug for people who are athletic. I run 30 to 40 miles per week, (8 to 9 minutes per mile,6 days a week)and will run another marathon in April. Lisonipril was given to me because I am athletic. After starting on lisonipril, my athletic performance improved dramatically since my BP dropped to normal levels. I would be interested to hear from other athletic people to hear of their results. I am 60 years old, 5' 11", 180 lbs. and take no other medications, eat a low fat diet (about 2200 calories per day). Perhaps other posters could put their age, weight, height, diet and exercise programs/habits into their posts. Since there are more than 1 million people on this type of medication, there must be some other people with positive results, otherwise, how could it stay on the market? P.S. I do have the infamous "cough", however, I have had a chronic nervous cough most of my life (smoked 3 packs a day from age 14 to age 37, quit now for 24 years) so my cough continues - and - I can appreciate how getting the cough for the first time could be a serious problem. I simply live with it.

I have been on Topamax since January 2005. Currently on 200mg per day, being moved up to 400 soon. I do experience the numbness of face, which in the beginning I would take an odd childish delight in, pushing and pulling on my face (tending to be somewhat high at those times) and telling people "feel this, it's so cool" because it feels to me at those times like my face is made of silly putty. The high part is mostly gone now, and I behave like a rational adult (mostly). I still have more fun that I used to, but that is a good thing. I was one of those people who took life way to seriously before.
I was prescribed Topamax for several reasons, none of them typical. I suffer severe Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and have been taking Celexa and Wellbutrin to treat it. Over the course of two months I gained 20 pounds on these meds. In addition, I suffer chronic fatigue and fairly severe mood swings (though nothing like what I had had prior to the medication). In light of all of those circumstances, and Topmax's reputation for causing weight loss, raising energy levels, and behaving as a mood stabilizer, I was prescribed this medication essentially for its side effects. I found out afterwards that it is benificial for chronic pain and migraines. I have had only one migraine since I began taking Topamax, and my lower back and neck problems (due do a broken coccyx and whiplash from two separate accidents) are vastly improved as well.
My craving for sweets is significantly decreased, as is my appetite, though both return with a vengeance when I get royally outraged, as I learned two weeks ago. I, also, no longer care for cola, but I don't understand why everyone complains about that, considering how it leaches the calcium out of our bones and puts us all at such great risk for Osteoporosis. I have lost 11 pounds to date. I'm sure it would be more if I would work out more or eat more than 1000 Calories per day, because I know eating so little slows my metabolism. I do suffer from dry mouth. I haven't noticed and of the blurred vision or memory loss, but despite the fact that I am very intelligent, I have always been a very myopic ditz so I wouldn't anyhow. My blood pressure, which was always low before, causing head rushes and dizziness, has stabilized at 120/60, so for the first time in my life it's normal and I no longer have to worry about falling over or having my vision black out if I stand up too suddenly. For me, I love the things this drug has done, and I am sorry to see that it is not a miracle drug for everyone else too.

I've been on NR for almost 2 years. I was fine, I thought, at first. But for the last 3 months I have such severe lower back pain, I can hardly move (and it worsens after sitting for long periods of time)...and it magically lessens after I take out the NR.
Also, I have gained weight that I can't manage to shed, no matter how much I starve myself or workout. I'm heavier than I've ever been at 188 lbs, and my OBGYN when I told her how upset I was about the weight gain told me it was as easy as cutting 100 calories per day - you know one spoon of mayo or piece of cheese...like I'm sitting around spooning mayo out of a jar!
My mood swings are scary - and getting worse every month. I get mad over absolutely nothing and cry and shake with rage...to the point where I've felt like I was going insane, right now I have one "major explosion" per week. I don't want to know what my blood pressure it, I'm sure it's higher than normal, if from nothing else my mood swings. In fact reading your posts out loud to my boyfriend, I've managed to bit his head off and start crying.
I have read & re-read the side effects of NR, with no explanations of this...until I read everyone's posts here.
