I have a daughter who is almost 3 yrs. old. Her pediatrician prescribed her Singulair when she was 18 months so she's been on it for a little over a year. She has suffered from allergies since she was an infant although we've lived in Atlanta and Cincinnati since her birth - two of the worst cities in the US for allergies and air quality!! I cannot tell you how disturbing yet reassuring it is to read all of your posted side effects..I can relate to so many of your experiences! Its so ironic though b/c the initial reason our last pediatrician put her on Singulair was b/c she was feeling so badly from her allergies...but since she began taking it, she has had SO many more issues with not only her health but mental state. She has had serious aggression issues - taking it out physically on other children, her peers and our poor dogs and cat. She has tons of trouble falling asleep at night, is a very picky eater and has unexplained bouts of anger. When it started, we thought it was b/c like so many toddlers, she couldn't express herself. But she began talking at 18 months and could also sign and always seemed to communicate to us in her own way prior to that so that didn't add up. We've had a lot of external changes in our lives in the past year so everyone I've talked to about her issues has assured me that it was due to these and to keep on trying everything we could; that it was only a "phase". But the one thing I keep thinking about is how different she was prior to taking Singulair and how her mental well being changed so drastically from that point on. She was such a sweet, lovable child who was sleeping throughout the night (since she was 8 months old). She had a great appetite and loved trying new foods. She never had any aggression issues AT ALL before that. I even asked her previous caregiver abt. any aggression issues she had while watching her (which was up until 2 months before she started taking Singulair) and she said she never had ANY issues. In all, like so many of you posted abt. your children, she was a completely different child!! After going to her doctor this morning to have her checked for what I suspected was a sinus infection, he told me to absolutely continue giving her Singulair year-round in addition to 10 mg of Claritin (which is twice as much as children ages 4 to 6 are supposed to take!) and Nosenex spray for the next few weeks. It seemed like an awful lot to give a 2 yr. old so I started researching and came across this site. I am going to stop giving her Singulair today and look into some non-prescription alternatives. I take Oil of Oregano for my allergies since I can't handle the side effects of over-the-counter drugs so maybe my daughter can take this as well? I am so scared of how this drug has affected my child and hope that there hasn't been any permanent damage. I feel terrible that I trusted both of her doctors before researching this drug. I am SO thankful for finding this site and for reading your stories and will report back in a few weeks to update you on my little one's condition.

This is a great site for learning more on this subject where we can get the real facts from real experiences.( Vs. the deception from drug companies who are in the business for profit.)

Lipitor is pure poison, and Dr.'s hand it out like candy. All cholesterol reducing drugs that contain statins can trigger dangerous side effects. Not many of us are informed about the real danger of statins when we are handed the perscription. Inappropriate prescribing of medications will continue to be one of the leading causes of death. And we, the patients,do not always receive enough info. from our Dr.'s about the dangers and side effects from prescription drugs.

I'm 48 yrs. young. Female, small build, (was) healthy and active, happy, and an empty nester! My husband and I had moved to another province and hence had to find a new Dr.

I was prescribed lipitor 10 mg. daily after a routine check up by my Dr. because my cholesterol was a little high.

I started taking it in the winter 2005. I stopped taking it in mid June 2007... My side effects were progressive , drug induced, and it escalated to near disabling.

I knew something was terribly wrong. Was it A.L.S., M.S., West Nile, Lupis, Alzhiemers Disease, or a new designer disease? I did not suspect that the drug lipitor was the cause until much later.

At first, my Dr. said it was menopause. I should mention; since I've quit taking the drug 3 months ago, I have no symptoms of menopause !
At least my Dr. has acknowledged and diagnosed the cause of these profound symptoms." Myopathy as a result of statins."

Signs & symptoms I experienced are as follows;

Severe stomach pain.
Muscle pain, aching , weakness, stiffness, tenderness esp.to the lower extremities. Eventually, I could only shuffle to walk.
Pain in the palms of hands.
Stiff neck, shoulders, arms and lower back.
Trouble getting up from a seated position, and climbing stairs.
Extreme fatigue.
Hot and cold sweats
Night sweats
Fevers. High and low grade fevers.
Ringing in the ears.
Difficulty swallowing, and fear of choking.
Pain in the esophagus.
Memory loss, difficulty concentrating, forgetfulness.
NO appetite, yet a lot of weight gained around the abdomen area.Bloated.
NO taste buds.
Speech affected, slurring words and mispronouncing. Tongue felt swollen.
Trouble breathing at night, would wake up coughing ( and I was not smoking then).
Trouble sleeping.
Loss of balance and coordination.
Blurred vision esp. in the morning.
Sharp shooting pains in the Rt. thigh.

Most of the symptoms have now subsided. I still have some foot pain and leg cramps and muscle stiffness... and poor concentration. Putting this together has been done with great difficulty, as I seem to pause a great deal and forget what I was trying to say. The recovery process is slow but at least it's progress. My Dr. has not prescribed any more medication. I've done my own research, after the fact, and started taking coQ10. and I've noticed a big difference!

Quality of life? Well, I'd rather have high cholesterol and die from that, than be poisoned again by statins. What quality is there, to live an extremely painful, useless and unfulfilling life? We were all guinea pigs, and we paid a terrible price for this! I hope we all can recover from this with no long term side effects.
If you are considering taking cholesterol lowering drugs do some careful research on statin drugs before you take them, and read the testimonies from those effected by them.

I am a caregiver for my 75 yo stroke victim Mom; on dialysis, diabetes and hypertension. I took her to the ER fearing she was suffering from either another stroke or heart attack but they couldn't find anything instead of spots of pneumonia in her lungs. The ER doc prescribe her Levaquin 500mg, and she became "looney" for 5 days; verbally combative, talking to herself incessantly while slipping in and out of consciousness in between. Short term memory was lost - big time! On the 5th day, I read the med literature Walmart Pharm inserted in the bag. IN BOLD LETTERS, IT WARNED: BE CAREFUL IN GIVING THIS MED TO ELDERLY. They may be more susceptible to suffer from side effects of dizziness, weakness and tremors. So I stopped giving it to her that very day, the next morning she open her eyes wide but slept for 2 days. As if to regain strength from what she went through for 5 days. Then, 2 days ago, she suffered from tremors or muscle spasm in her injured leg which caused her to scream in pain. I wonder if this still the side effects of Levaquin!?!

Had cortisone shot two days later had severe pain in Heart (not chest) lasted no longer then 60 seconds. Pain grew intensity started at 1 and went to about an 8. Thought I was going to dye. Pain was horrible. Went away as fast as it came. About 5 minutes later got in car to go to work 3pm. 5 miles down the rd, arches of both feet started itching and tingling really bad, had to take shore off to itch, fingers then started tingling and itching too. Anus also started itching, thank goodness not bad, had hemmoriods removed two years ago. Made it to work, Caregiver, could not work still itching and tired, head dizzy, weakness, waited two hours before I could drive home. Was ill all weekend, heart started beating irregular, now it is worse. Told Doctor, she said I had anxiety attack and gave me another shot. Heart got worse, swelling of feet and fingers, depression, dizzy, really sad. Christmas time and could not shop because I was too tired and fatiqued. Went into hospital, potassium level low was ok before, irregular heart beat worse, heart hurts all the time, fatiqued all the time, short of breath, dizzy a lot. Cannot do the things I used to do. Cannot sleep on my back, have to sleep in recliner or wedge pillow, cannot stand having weight on my chest especially on my heart. Have to go slow, been 1year 2 months now and doc said it would go away after 7 months, another one of her patients had this happen to him and she said he was better in 7 months. Doctors say I will have to live with it now. I say no.

I have been reading this off and on since I was put on Lisinopril. I have been so ill off and on, with horrible headaches that will not go away, along with back pain - the cough isn't too bad, but comes and goes - and the fatigue is beyond description and I am a caregiver for my husband who has been on this med for years and has had 4 strokes and heart attack, so I need my strength - I have never felt like this before (fatigue) so I told my Doctor 3 days ago and he told me I was a depressed woman and these are not side effects, and I told him never to tell me I'm depressed, and of course I get tired, I'm 72 years old, who wouldn't, but never depressed - I'm very happy go lucky and blessed, so what does one do when their Dr. tells them they are depressed because of side effects of meds.
