I started 40 mg Simvastatin in Sept 2007 and stopped it March 08. I developed severe carpal tunnel Sept 07 and it went away March 08.....gone. The illness simvastatin caused has taken a year to get better. At times, I was too weak to feed myself. Drenching sweats, 24 hour a day headache, vomiting, light headed, blurry vision, and swollen neck glands. On a scale of 1-10, fatigue was a 10. I developed Rheumatoid Arthritis. I had very few arthritis episodes but it showed on blood work. It went into "remission" Dec 08. I was still sick. They said RA was reason I was so ill. I honestly felt I was dying. They tried to fix me, cost me a lot of money. I started CoQ10 a month ago. Made changes with other meds too. I am just now seeing an improvement. The large swollen gland on my neck has started to go away. The headache and fatigue are getting better. It's been a long road. I think it effects so many people in so many different ways that doctors are not clicking. My father, my aunt, my cousin, my brother and I all had different aches and pains. The one thing we had in common was extreme fatigue. We all stopped statins and some recovered quickly. Dad and I are still suffering. No more statins for me.

I had been on Yaz for almost a year. I have tried EVERYTHING!!! I went to Yaz after trying even the Nuvaring. It seemed like everything from regular Ortho was too strong and the ring was too little. I've been on birth control since I was 17 (now I'm 26) and have tried it all. I mainly stayed on because of cramping and digestive trouble I used to experience around my period. For about 3 months Yaz was great- no mood swings, my cramp pain was cut in half, and my sex drive lost on the ring came back. However, after about the 5th month, I started to notice the same side effects as other posters; headaches, night sweats, fatigue, numbness in my legs, moodiness, zero libido, and the carpal tunnel in my wrists would increase in pain by 10 fold, etc. In fact, it was getting so bad, that my husband was getting annoyed with me saying I was always tired even though I would sleep 8 hours and not have any other outside stressors impacting my sleep patterns. We almost divorced over the stupid, but outrageous, fights I would pick for no reason at all! I would get so irritated at the smallest thing. It was like a switch would flip and I couldn't turn it off! I couldn't figure out why I was so fatigued- I exercise and eat right (I'm a nutritionist)and have played sports for years!. The depressing feelings bothered me because I know that eating right and exercising keeps serotonin levels at an even keel- that's what I do for a living! Mine were way off for no reason! It got to the point that my friends noticed a huge change in my personality- I used to be the life of the party, and now I would rather stay in instead of go out and socialize with my best friends and husband! Thank you for writing these blogs. I can't wait to feel normal again! I'd rather deal with the cramps or take some homeopathic remedy than deal with this horrible drug. There is a great article on cnn.com about birth control pills and libido/ side effects. Just search for "the pill" and the article should come up.

I am so glad I found this site. I have been having hideous headaches and just today thought perhaps it's the Simvastatin that I started this summer. I had an occasion this summer where I lost the vision in one eye (half way up). The doctor said that is called "window blind" vision loss. So after doppler and MRI he said I had to absolutely take 81 mg of aspirin a day (baby aspirin) and started me on cholesterol lowering meds. I didn't want to take the cholesterol lowering meds so at first I resisted completely. However, in the past month I have started to take them. Every night I would wake up with a headache and my neck and shoulders were hurting also. I kept thinking that I was going to have a stroke. The pain was so bad I would vomit but the area of the headache was not where I would get migraines. The pain was more in the back of my head and my neck and shoulders. I decided to do some reading on the internet and found that headaches is a major symptom of simvastatin. I will do my own experiment now and stay off of it for 10 days. I will then start it again and see if the symptoms return. My doppler said I had mild build up of plaque...at 57 I would imagine most people of mild build up of plaque. I don't want a stroke or heart attack but I can't live with these headaches and the lack of sleep.

I was put on Lipitor about 1 year ago and the dosage was put up to 40mg about 3 months ago. My hands went numb and tingling about that time and I never thought that it was the lipitor. I've gone to a couple drs and a chiropractor and no one thought that it was lipitor. They are convinced that its carpal tunnel and that I should have surgery. Now I have swelling in my hands and legs along with aches and pains and I've comvinced that its the lipitor. I've been off it now for about 5 weeks and still have the swelling and tingling. Has anyone else have these symptons and for how long? Also my Dr. wants me to take Zetia for the cholestoral but I'm afraid to take anything. Any suggestions!!!

It was comforting to read the stories from patients whom have the same issues with the prednisone as myself to assure me I AM NOT CRAZY. I am 43 years old and have severe asthma. Just this past April I was hospitalized for a week with asthma and was given so much steriods via shots, pills and IV drip that I have gained 25 lbs since April 16. Have swelling of the face, facial hair, swollen legs and a bloated belly. I cannot take it any more. I do not feel attractive and am in constant pain from the carpal tunnel I have developed in my hands, wrist and arms. I wish there was some way to return back to my normal active life and my normal body.

I think what a lot of people are posting here are more side effects of thyroid conditions rather than side effects of thyroid medication. After my RAI treatment I started on a generic brand of levothyroxine. I even got my doctor to let me try Armour Thyroid since many people do well with it rather than Synthroid. Armour didn't work well for me, but it definitely is the only way to go for some people. After months of misery, things finally smoothed out. I was a royal pain in the butt to my doctor because I questioned everything. The biggest side effect for me going from hyper to hypo was edema. A clinical name for water retention. It wasn't so much the bloated feeling that bugged me. It was the pain in my hands and feet from the water retention. I have never, ever had a problem with carpal tunnel syptoms even though I have always used my hands a lot for work and I play the guitar. I had to add a small dose of dieuretic to control the edema and relieve the hand and feet pain. Sometimes it does flair up depending upon what I eat and how much I sweat, but that's what goes along with this type of illness. It's not just a magic pill that makes you feel "back to normal". You have to be demanding of your doctor to try other things to get you to feel right. You even have to pay attention to how you feel at different times of the year to figure out how to adjust what you take, eat, or do to feel better. I have noticed that with all things remaining constant, how I feel in terms of energy level and edema is related to the season. The body is weird that way. I still have side effects from the treatment from time to time, but I finally figured out what seems to work best for me. Maybe things could change over time, but I've learned that medicine just doesn't have a black and white treatment plan that works the same for everyone for thyroid related conditions. To sum it up, question everything your doctor tells you, demand to try things that you think would help you feel right, pay attention to what your body is telling you and adjust, and fire your doctor if they treat thyroid problems as black and white. Your doctor is not the one suffering from the condition, you are. It's your life and there's nothing wrong with being demanding about wanting to feel right.

My doctor gave me Levaquin for an infection.
I noticed soon after taking my hands were getting very numb.
I thought it was maybe carpal tunnel doing this.
I finished the medicine on a 6 day course.
I started having numbness in my neck, legs hurting and aching very badly .
I have feelings of suicide and going crazy.
I have had panic attacks in the past but this was different much more intense in nature.
I also am light headed and really feel out of sorts with my body.
I will never again take this medicine.
I would love to know how to get this out of my system and what foods to avoid.
Please if anyone knows for sure some help email me with the answers.I am a single parent and do not enjoy my daughter seeing me this way.
It is very frightful for us both.

Get over yourselves. Those 'other' problems could be caused by a variety of things and not necessarily have anything to do with kenalog. I LOVE the stuff! I've received it several times for trochanter bursitis in both hips, for inflammation/pain relief in my right shoulder due to shoulder/rotator cuff reconstruction, my foot for affects of severe gout, carpal tunnel in both wrists, and several other times for inflammation/pain that cannot be treated with oral anti-inflammatories due to diabetic gastroparesis. Mind you, I do suffer from bad stomach cramps for a few hours post injection, but other than that mild side effect, the medication is FANTASTIC and successful in treating my numerous problems. I think you're all just looking for excuses to whine about your problems rather than being glad that you at least have someone trying to help you.
I will recommend kenalog to anyone looking for relief of symptoms I've mentioned. My success rate is 95% +. Sometimes it takes more than one shot or being the individuals we are, we suffer some effects that aren't usual, ut this is no reason to crap on an excellent product that has helped so many, so often.
So get over yourselves and quit your pouting.

I went to see an orthopedic doctor yesterday for pain in my wrist and elbow. Arthritis and carpal tunnel runs in my family. After a few minutes he decides I have carpal tunnel and tennis elbow. He tells me what he will do is give me a brace to wear to bed and at work if needed along with an injection to ease my mild pain. I ask him how long this should last and his response was "hopefully forever". I was unaware there was a miracle shot out there? I am having pain in the injection area, off and on headaches and terrible stomach cramping. I called them back and was told none of these is a side effect and to call my MD.
If anyone has gotten one injection for the same reasons please email your experience to me ga_christie_04@yahoo.com.
I just cant believe a doctor would give an injection without disclosing what the injection was or the side effects.

I took Lipitor for a number of years until I started having pains in my thighs. I was switched to Provacol and 2 month later I had rabdomialisis (sp) I was paralyzed from the waist down for about 3 months and it gave me neuropathy, myopathy, carpal tunnel in both hands, hypothyroidism and increased my sleep apnea (according to my neurologist) This has been going on for almost 2 years. I am just waiting to see what else could happen. It is the gift that keeps on giving.

I took Topamax for a year(stopping a month ago) before I finally decided it wasn't worth all the problems.
When I first started the drug I had tingling in my face and feet, and tingling with severe pain in my hands.I was told it would go away after a few weeks, but after several months it was still a problem. I was tested and found out to have Carpal Tunnel, however after stopping the medication I have no problems or symptoms of it at all.
After 7 months on the drug I was diagnosed with multiple kidney stones. I have 4-5 stones in one kidney.
About 2 months ago I started losing ALOT of hair. It is falling out in clumps. I can actually feel how much thinner it is. I didn't realize it could be from the meds until reading other posts here.
I am tired all the time but can't sleep. I will go to bed and lay there for hours before getting back up. I average about 3 hours of sleep a night and then I have no energy to do anything during the day.
My sex drive is completely gone.
Also have extreme hot flashes and sweating episodes. I can just be sitting around doing nothing and will start burining up and sweating. It is terrible.
My Dr. said that most of these are not side effects of the medication but after reading here ,I am convinced that it is and am glad I quit taking it. I will have to go back to dealing with the migraines because I am not going back on this drug.

So glad I found this site! I have been on zocor for several years and began having pains in my hips and had tension headaches. X-rays were taken and the dr. said I had arthritis in my neck and back, ok, I accepted that but what about my fingers, elbow, arm and shoulders? I know I have carpal tunnel in my right hand but getting on and off the toilet was very difficult with the pain. I could hardly move, my legs ached so bad. my memory was terrible, i thought old age! I am 55 years old! I have hot flashes, night sweats, don't sleep well, vision is getting blurry. I decided after reading everyones comments which sounded like I was writing them, to go off of zocor. Within 3 days I began feeling less achy. I do wear a brace on my hand for the carpal tunnel, which helps some but not totally. It has been a full week and i can move so much better. My hands and wrist are still sore but my arms and legs are feeling better. I just hope in weeks to come I feel alot better. We got back to the doctor the beginning of May so I am hoping he will agree with me for going off the medication. After all, it is my body!

I did a ten day course of cipro for a UTI. at about day 6 my thighs started hurting a little and by day ten my calves hurt as well. a few days after that my achilles tendons were killing me and I was put on prednisone for ten days, it actually helped the pain. after the steroid course ended the pain returned and now encompassed the bottom of my feet, ankels, knees, left shoulder, and carpal tunnel in both wrists. My DR said he wasn't sure what to do when this kind of reaction to cipro occurs. as of now I am almost disabled, I can stand only for a few minutes at a time, and I am in constant pain especially in my feet. I don't know what the solution to this is, but I think that Bayer should be held responsible when their product disables someone. I am not trashing Bayer, cipro did exactly what it was supposed to do for the UTI, I just had a bad reaction to it.

Wow, I am so glad to find this site. I have been taking Levothyroxine for probably 3-4 months. At first, I felt great. Now, I have numbness and tinging in my left arm and what I believe to be carpal tunnel (developed in just the past week). I feel depressed, can't stop crying, and I ache like I'm 90 years old - I'm just 25! I have been so scared. I have a Dr. appt. later this week, now I am thinking I need to go off this med. I only have slight hypo, so it's not worth it to be on this stuff! I'm so glad it's not just me.

HELP!!! I need to know if any has had this side effect of this pill. I am not sure if it is a side effect, please share!!
I started the pill in Nov & in Dec I started getting bad pains in my wrist. the first doctor i went to said it was carpal tunnel and then the pain moved into my hands. To make a long story short the muscels in my hands become inflammed & the only thing that has been helping is steriod shots. However, they have tested me for everything under the sun and everything comes back fine. I have asked the doctors if the pill could cause this. They have said no but they never did ask what pill I was on. Is anyone else out there having this problem.

I had surgery for carpal tunnel that did not work. The doctor gave me injections of kenalog in both wrists. Since then I have been in pain 24/7. Pain goes from hands radiating up my arms and jaws. The doctors say they have never heard of any of these symptoms after shots of kenalog. I was never warned or given possible side effects. In his record he wrote that I was counciled as to side effects. NOT! I really don't know what to do. I don't want antone else to have this done to them. I am considering an attorney at this point. I have been ruined. Anyone know a good attorney in south Georgia?

Within 10 days of taking Lipitor I developed an unusual nodule on the knuckle of a finger on my left hand.
Within 14 days, I began awakening at night with INTENSE, BURNING PAIN in my right arm and hand. Also carpal-tunnel-like symptoms of hand and arm tingling in right arm and hand.
Within 21 days my left wrist developed a type of arthritic joint problem, which left me wearing arm splints on both arms.
Stopped the Lipitor, under Dr.'s advice, blood tests showed no muscle damage, but all problems listed above are now improving. SLOWLY IMPROVING. Left wrist may never be the same.
I CAN'T BELIEVE HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE SIDE-EFFECTS FROM THIS DRUG!!!! And they say it's safe? This is our pharmaceutical companies talking here, this DRUG IS NOT SAFE... IT IS MAIMING PEOPLE.....

I've been on Levothyroxine for years, and recently my fingers on my left hand tingle, are numb, I can't FEEL with them. So after complaining to my doctor, he shoots some cortisone in my wrist telling me it's carpal tunnel. Carpal tunnel, my butt!! I don't know what made me do it, but somehow I got to this site. I've been on antideppressants for years cause I'm tired, fatigued, then on valium so I can sleep,
I can't concentrate at all, my memory is GONE....
I called him this afternoon and said I wanted to go on Armour
Thyroid. His nurse tells me that he says " We'll address that when he sees me in April". %#@* that, I'll be 400 lbs by April!! My sex drive is nonexistant, and I'm a freakin' couch potato when I used to go to the gym, go out with friends, DO THINGS!! Now I'm lucky if I make it through work. ENOUGH DRUGS... I'm goin' off everything and starting over. I'll get up the money and see an endocrinologist. I'm through being a drug reps dream....

I have been taking Snythroid for about 18 months. In the past six months, my blood pressure is uncontrolable. I have been on 7 regiments of blood pressure medicine in the past seven months. I have been to the Emergency Room twice in the last two months with tackycardia and irregular heart beat. My fingers and hand feels as though I have carpal tunnel. I started on .25 mg of Synthroid and somehow, whether it was the doctor or the pharmacy, my medication is now 25 mg. I have been to a cardiologist, had a stress test, MRI on my kidneys, holter monitor and they can't find anything wrong with my heart. I switched doctors, hopefully, she can figure out what is wrong with me.

I feel like I am walking on clouds; I feel light-headed; I can't think straight/logically; I feel drowsy; I see strange images that are not really there; my stomach is bloated and I have severe, disgusting gas; and my vision is blurred. All this to kill my carpal tunnel pain? It's high time I get off of this poison. I suggest all of you do too.
