I started taking an Avelox prescription (10 day) last Saturday, October 23, 2007. I was diagnosed with a sinus infection and had finished a Zithromax prescription for a tonsillitis 48 hours prior to that. I guess the previous infection had spred to my sinuses. On the third day, I started getting dizzy spells and was getting 2 second jolts of pain in my head once in a while like a sudden headache that would just dissapear. My ears would block and unblock cause of the sinus pressure so I thought it was normal for me to feel light headed or get suddden headaches from sinus pressure. On the fifth day, I had a very bad dry cough, and my chest felt like it was crushed. There again, I thought since I had the tonsillitis before, I was caughing alot so I might have a set back cause of the sinus infection and the weakened immune system. What started to worry me was this afternoon, my tongue started to feel raw like as if I burned it with a hot coffee, and when I looked in the mirror, had red spots. I decided to look up some info on the internet and discovered this site. I will go to the doctors and see what I have to so since I still have 3 days left to go. Thanks to the others for the info.

After reading this accumulated several years of reporting below:
Yes to higher heart rate and BP for sure - after several days using albuterol in the home nebulizer I have had - it is for emergencies and every severe asthma attack but one (Oct 06) it kept me out of the hospital. I also tho have a GERD ulcer in my throat that causes caughing - Nexxium is THE ONLY med proven to heal those btw - and they do still come back! But anyways, this latest irritated throat followed by uncoltrollable coughinghas been on the "other" side of my throat for 6 days -
(this is all separate from my bronchial and lung coughing from asthma and the lung infections that come with it).

So anyways - ta daa - I came here suspecting the new spot in my throat that is super-sensitive is due to the nebulizer and after reading the other comments- maybe this really is it! The forced air in particular - because I just don't get coughs like this when I stick to my little purse canister.

My main problem with Lisinopril is the coughing. Coughing, coughing. coughing. I will be fine for 2 to 3 hours and then start with this awful cough. People will actually turn away from me if I am out shopping and a cough begins. I presume they believe it is contagious. Sometimes I end up vomiting and I cannot catch my breath. Coughing at night is really a problem because of lack of sleep. Doctors believe my cough is due to allergies because I have post nasal drip. However, none of the medications they have given me stop the coughing. I never had this problem until I began taking Lisinopril. Lisinopril is my first Blood Pressure medication.

I had been taking lisinopril for 18 months ... the caughing side
effect was apparent within one week and occurred frequently
but most annoyingly while I was eating at a restaurant (definite
affect on others nearby!) Eight months ago I was diagnosed with
Parkinson's disease and began taking medicine for this condition.
Within a month a starting having "sneezing" fits in addition to
the caughing. On many days, I was going through a whole box
of tissues. Since then I have stopped taking Lisinipril twice ...
and the caughing and sneezing stopped within two days!

I am currently looking for an alternative BP medicine.

I have been taking advair 2x per day for about 2 1/2 weeks. I have experienced the hoarseness and difficulty singing. I have also been caughing up a LOT of phlem. I was put on advair because of a severe bronchial episode, caughing so hard I was bursting blood vessels in my lungs (just little spots of blood). In the past 2 days I have been caughing up solid masses of blood. I don't know if this is related to the advair, but I am worried. I am also on singulair, prednezone, and the albuterol rescue inhaler, and I have been taking claritin, so I don't know if that particular simptom was caused by the advair or one of my other meds.

My son is 6. He started Singulair when he was 3 because of a very serious caugh that wouldn't go away and after several doctors - it was diagnosed that he had allergies. He was on Singulair for a little over a year. I didn't pay attention to the signs of the side effects as I thought he was a typical boy acting out. Once we started allergy shots the dr. took him off the Singulair. I noticed his behavior being much better, but figured he was getting older and more mature. About 8 months ago we stopped the shots. He was fine (no caughing) up until July then he started caughing very badly again so in the time before we could start the allergy shots again, we put him back on Singulair. OMG!!! My sweet little boy vanished and the devil took his place. After 2 days of horrible behavior, yelling, running through the house like a crazy man, hitting his sister, and breaking things, I stopped the Singulair. Within 24 hours he was back to normal. He also had a severe stomach ache on the 2nd day. Because of these side effects I am not comfortable putting him back on the medication. I can't imagine him trying to function during school on this stuff and certainly wouldn't want him to be labled as a "bad kid".

Does anyone know of any possible alternate medications that would control caughing as quickly and as well as Singulair did, but without the nasty side effects?

I would like to add a litle to the site.I'm a 44 yr old male. I have been taking lisinopril for about 6 months now with the same side affects that most others have had shortness of breath dizziness, caughing, cramps hands and feet, legs, neck. at first when i was under the medication i didnt link the side affects to it. i asked my dr. he said that there will be some of these things happening but that the % of people was low. Now it seems part of another problem (erectile complications) But most of the other simptoms have all but past, except cramps and energy lose. I too only had a slight rise from normal but he wanted to get me started as not to go to long before it could be corrected. now that i am reading this is scareing me to death!!!! im looking into another natural med through a store called trader joes. A friend said its better then what im doing. He has done the same several months ago and is doing fine. I hope this helps others??? Good luck..

Ok, I have read EVERY ONE of these! and I am beyond angry for EVERY person that I have read up on. My Husband was put on Lisinopril from his VA Doctor about two months ago. I have watched him like a hawk on this medicine and I have cried myself to sleep because of the pain from the caughing. He has had sweats like you would'nt believe!!. We took a weekend get away down to the Beach, IT WAS 69 DEGREES with a GOOD BREEZE on the PIER!! and I watched my husband sweat to the point where it was dripping off of his nose!!. In our hotel room (on the BEACH) the windows were OPEN, the FANs were ON, and he was sitting in a chair DOING NOTHING!!!! BUT, SWEATING!!! and complaining how his back was hurting. (MY HUSBAND DOES NOT COMPLAIN ABOUT ANYTHING!!!) (when it comes to pain). I am a licensed CNA and have worked in State Hospitals so I've seen ALOT!! & dealt with ALOT! I do not over react, I'm trained not to!. But these SO CALLED DOCTORS ARE A JOKE! I can't get ANY of them to take this SERIOUSLY!!. I took hin back to the URGENT CARE at the VA and they said I was "FISHING"!. I have been with my HUSBAND for 12yrs. I think I would have a CLUE or NOT if something was wrong with him. His eyes are "blood shot" says the Dr. @ VA, (I say YELLOW), his mid back (kidney area) hurts, has head aches, no engery (hes a truck driver) who workes out, sex life is basically -0-, (not my husband), and the caughing is BEYOND WORDS!!!!!, heavyness in his chest, tingeling down his right arm into his fingers( I manipulate the nerve in between his elbow to get the feeling back). Again please understand my husband is not a complainer!!(jokingly to apease me he says"don't worrie I'm an ex-Marine). The other night while we were on our weekend get away(HONEYMOON after two years) he ased me if I had thought about what I would do if anything were to happen to him "where would I go/live/do? Thats how BAD he felt. He wasn't trying to scare me he just wanted to talk through what was in his head cause of hoe he was feeling from all of these things that were happening to him and his body(seriously WORRIED) he had never felt these things before. I took him OFF OF this HORRIBLE STUFF that night!!!!. He has been off this stuff now for a week and two days! The sweats have stopped, the head aches have lessened, the back pain is still some what there, I haven't manipulated the nerve in his elbow, in time we'll work on the fun stuff (intamacy), AND~~~~THE CAUGHING HAS become WAY WAY WAY LESS!!!, he sleeps a little better now too. My husband is a type 2 Diabetic (within the last year), has high blood pressure(not bad though), and a Prostrate problem(up every 1/2-1hr. urinating) DRIVES HIM NUTS!!! not real good when you have to be up at 3;30 every morning to go to work. His Med's are: Metformin (diabetes), Lisinopril (high blood pressure), Finasteride (prostate), Naproxen (pain). He WAS on Atenolol before changing to Lisinopril. That is also another DANGEROUSE Medication!!!! Bad sied effects: swelling!!.

I want to thank ALL who shared there stories here!!!you ALL have helped me in showing my husband that this is NOT a temporary situation. He can be STUBBORN when it comes to things of this matter!!. Now he's starting to listen to what i'm trying to tell him & show him. Now he believes me when i tell him "this is not a joke"!! and Doctors are not GOD!! God is God!
